Oil production, as well as the transportation of oil and gas through pipeline systems, cause the destruction and man-made transformation of the natural ecosystems of Northern Eurasia, an increase in the area of disturbed lands, and a reduction in the habitats of specially protected plant species. In this regard, the most significant measures for biological diversity are the identification of conditions for the growth of populations of rare plants in man-made biotopes and the development of methods for their conservation and restoration. 12 species (Carex sylvatica, Dactylorhiza baltica, D. fuc

In the 1930’s the rate of establishing protected areas has increased significantly. During the six years from 1934 until the beginning of the Second World War more than 400 protected natural areas were established, while in the previous 21 years less than 300 were founded. The history of nature conservation serves us numerous curiosities from this period. Areas with decisive importance in the life of biotopes and species that were receiving high number of visitors, had gradually been put under legal protection. From the beginning of official nature conservation (1872) such changes took place i

This study aims to identify the key environmental conditions that support the protection and natural regeneration of Syringa josikaea J. A detailed analysis of the climatic characteristics of the species’ habitats within the Ukrainian Carpathians is provided. Understanding the climatic factors influencing this local species is crucial for identifying its most vulnerable habitats and developing effective conservation strategies. Sacred sites are of conservation value because of their spiritual meaning, as cultural heritage and as remnants of near-natural biotopes in landscapes strongly transformed by man. The vegetation of sacred sites in Morocco was studied recently. Information about their number, spatial pattern or relief position is fragmentary. However, these parameters are important to evaluate their role as refuge for organisms and their representativeness of potential natural vegetation. Therefore, density and spatial pattern of sacred sites on the Tangier Peninsula in NW Morocco were studied based on records

The paper presents the results of the analysis of the use of amphibiontic organisms as bioindicators of the ecological environment, as model groups in ecological engineering. The solution to the conceptual problem of ecological engineering in the conservation of biological diversity is to take an inventory of natural, urbanized and agroecosystems. Among amphibiotic insects, the order Odonata stands out, with morphological plasticity, biological progress, adults and dragonfly larvae actively colonize aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems of various types. This paper is a characterization of the chestnut stand biotopes in Andalucia (Spain). The distribution of these stands is quite iregular, with four areas of chestnut tree dominant presence, located in Granada, Huelva, Malaga y Sevilla respectively, totalling over 9.000 ha. In these locations, 23 forest sites have been evaluated by computing a set of 34 phytoecological parameters and 7 silvicultural parameters. The sampling design was based on the Spanish Forest Map (Ceballos, 1966) overlaid on the Biogeoclimatic Classification of the Peninsular and Balearic Spain (Elena, 1996).This information

Freshwater fish reproduce annually in environments that provide favourable conditions for spawning and larval survival and growth. Thus, the aims of this study were to use long-term larval density data to evaluate the temporal distribution of the dourado Salminus brasiliensis, its habitat use for larval development and the effects of environmental variables on reproduction. S. brasiliensis larvae were mainly recorded in October and January in the Ivinheima River, and higher densities of larvae, primarily in the preflexion and flexion stages, were captured in the river and backwater biotopes. Plant species diversity was studied in 20 sandy wadis of the northern Algerian Sahara (Ghardaïa region). Based on subjective sampling, 20 floristic surveys were carried out in the various sandy biotopes in February-April 2022. Through an ascending hierarchical analysis, we distinguished 3 phytoecological groups and assessed their functional, biogeographic, and abundance characteristics. The recorded plants represented 15 species (296 individuals) belonging to 15 genera of 10 botanical families. The most represented families were the Fabaceae, Anacardiaceae, Brassicaceae, and Poaceae. In terms

The conservation and restoration of the bison (Bison bonasus L.) is one of the fundamental issues of international importance in the Tsumanska Pushcha National Nature Park, Ukraine. The distribution of bison in the territory of the park and adjacent areas is associated with the specific requirements of the species regarding food and protective properties of the terrain. In spring, with the beginning of the growing season, the grass cover is thin and the amount of food is insufficient, so bison prefer swampy biotopes. Different anthropogenic disturbances are increasingly affecting these tropical coastal habitats leading to growing conservation concern.
