Ab initio alloy theory, formulated within the exact muffin-tin orbitals method in combination with the coherent-potential approximation, is used to determine the effect of long range order on the elastic properties. The lattice parameters and single-crystal elastic constants of Cu3Au are calculated for different partially ordered structures ranging from the fully ordered L12 to the random face centered cubic lattice. The Planck constant is one of the most important constants in nature, as it describes the world governed by quantum mechanics. However, it cannot be derived from other natural constants. We developed an extreme ultraviolet (EUV) polarimeter, which employs laser-generated high-order harmonics as the light source. This relatively high-flux, directional EUV source has available wavelengths between 10 nm and 47 nm with easily rotatable linear polarization. The polarimeter has allowed us to characterize the optical constants of materials that may be useful for EUV optics. The instrument has a versatile positioning system and a spectral resolution of about 180, and we have demonstrated that reflectance as low as 0.1% can be measured repeatably at EUV wavelengths. 3-Chloro-4,4,5-trimethyl-3,5-diphenyl-4,5-dihydro-3H-pyrazole (3b) and 3-bromo-4,4,5-trimethyl-3,5-diphenyl-4,5-dihydro-3H-pyrazole (3c) were prepared for the thermolysis project. The thermal decompositions of 3b and 3c were monitored using 1H NMR spectroscopy. Plots of ln (% starting material) vs. time (sec) were linear for at least two half lives and the first order rate constants were determined over at least a 30o temperature range.
