The Supreme Court of North Carolina is an anomaly among state courts in the antebellum years. In a period dominated by democratic reforms of state government, the court did not merely survive unscathed it actually increased its independence. Without those two men it is likely that the Supreme Court would have been abolished in a wave of democratic reforms that peaked in North Carolina with the constitutional amendments of 1835.

Abstract MYH9-related disorders are autosomal dominant giant platelet syndromes with a wide phenotypic variability known under the following names: May Hegglin Anomaly (MHA), Fechtner Syndrome (FTNS), Epstein Syndrome (EPS), Sebastian Syndrome (SBS) and Alport-like Syndrome with MT. The aim of the study was to identify MYH9-related syndromes in a series of 43 propositi with constitutional MT. In this group, 26 have a characteristic MYH9-syndrome phenotype. The 17 other patients have a constitutional MT of uncertain etiology, 8 of them presenting a partial MYH9 syndrome phenotype. The leukocyte

The representation of women in Parliament has always been an exciting study from time to time. As a country with a democratic ideology, Indonesia provides a massive opportunity for women to enter Parliament as mandated by the constitution, which states that women's representation in Parliament is at least 30% of the total number of members of Parliament. This constitutional mandate in the Indonesian landscape is still experiencing challenges and obstacles. Women in their journey still experience much social discrimination, which causes a low level of women's participation in Parliament. One in

The argument has been that section 24G is a fait accompli, provides leverage for abuse by potential developers, facilitates environmental non-compliance, and therefore should be considered an anomaly to the co

The purpose of the article is to show how the questions of anomality and animality belong together in phenomenology. The figure of the human animal serves as the guideline of the study, namely the figure of a person who is not considered as similar to myself in the frame of a Husserlian characterization of normality. Husserl’s thinking is analyzed with respect to the problem of an intersubjective co-constitution of a common world. It is shown that Husserl only accepts animality and anomality within the restrictive perspective of a so-called normal humanity, that of the adult man, healthy, reas

The state, through the party in power, can subtly adapt the consensus, if necessary to circumvent the constitution, for the sake of the group’s interests. Extreme climatic events can substantially affect organismal performance and Darwinian fitness. In April 2011, a strong heat wave struck extensive geographical areas of the world, including Western Europe. At that time, we happened to resume and extend a long-term time series of seasonal genetic data in the widespread fly Drosophila subobscura , which provided a unique opportunity to quantify the intensity of the genetic perturbation caused by the heat wave. We show that the spring 2011 genetic constitution of the populations transiently shifted to summer-like frequencies, and that the magnitud
