During the late medieval period, a great number of temples were constructed in this region. Following the Ahom dynasty, the Koch kings ruled Assam for a while and were responsible for the construction of a number of temples in the Brahmaputra valley. The Koch

<p>Point cloud data of existing structures is widely used for generating geometric models for digital twins, including the finite element (FE) models for performance analysis. This study aims to construct shell element FE models from steel I-beam test member point clouds using a template shell model created based on members with generic shapes of steel bridges thereby enhancing the efficiency of performance evaluations of existing structures. The proposed method was verified using data of an I-beam with stiffeners, obtained by a handy scanner. A registration and neutral plane estimation

Abstract This paper describes the corrosion control design for the exterior submerged and buried steel surfaces of the 2,850' (869 m) water depth Auger Tension Leg Platform structure. Each major type of component (hull, subsea marine wellhead/guidebase, tendon foundation template, tendon, and production riser) has its own combination of coating system and cathodic protection system designed for a thirty five year lifetime. Cathodic protection (CP) is achieved using a variety of sacrificial anode alloys and geometries (e.g. bracelet, flush-mount, and standoff anodes). Anode and cathode CP desig

Abstract The infrastructure of the Mexican southeastern coastal zone is affected by corrosion problems which are due, mainly, to the construction bad practices and to the aggressive environmental agents (temp., Relative Humidity, chlorides). The first actions for knowing and controlling them have been taken on the coast of Progreso, Yucatán. Cylinders of solid concrete and others with an embedded rebar were constructed and exposed to the marine environment studying different variables like w/c ratio, time of curing, coated and uncoated rebars, chlorides and CO2 penetration and place of exposur

The Salt Lake Temple is undergoing its most significant renovation since its dedication in 1893. The renovation includes a seismic retrofit of the historic stone structure’s foundations using base isolation. This paper focuses on the temporary underpinning of the 16 to 35 feet thick unreinforced masonry perimeter walls of this massive structure. Conventional needle beam or direct structural underpinning approaches to support the Temple in place during base isolator installation were precluded by its immense weight and extremely thick walls. The design-build team instead developed a unique temp

The majority were constructed during the 15th to 18th century and were designed to incorporate oil or fat-based wick lamps for lighting. The intervention of modern electric lighting in these structures should be carried out without conceding cultural values, visual perception, and traditional outlook. However, in most sites, there are no lighting or unscientific lighting interventions which are inappropriat

The Acropolis is located in the central part of the upper plateau of the Phanagoria site, closer to its Northern edge. During the excavations that took place at more than 3000 m.sq., archaeological layers and structural remains of Phanagorean settlements dating to the first century of the city’s existence were unearthed. This considers the site’s history from ca. 540 BCE to 450/40 BCE, when the majority of the buildings were destroyed. During that period the buildings made out of mudbrick located here according to the initial plan were continuously rebuilt according to various plans, also duri

Thе paper deals with automatic areas of interest detection in video streams derived from mobile eye trackers. Defining such areas on a visual stimulus viewed by an informant is an important step in setting up any eye-tracking-based experiment. If the informant’s field of view is stationary, areas of interest can be selected manually, but when we use mobile eye trackers, the field of view is usually constantly changing, so automation is badly needed. We propose using computer vision algorithms to automatically locate the given 2D stimulus template in a video stream and construct the homography

Finding effective and interactive tools for extracting freeform shape information continues to be a challenging problem in reverse engineering. Given a freeform shape, it may be constructed by adding one shape, named a pattern, to another. In this paper, an approach of extracting the pattern by template fitting is proposed. By similarity analysis, a user-defined region of interest in the shape can be matched, or fitted, to a shape template. According to the different methods in constructing the shape, several different kinds of R3 to R3 functions are defined. With those functions, the original

Multiple development actors are interested in stimulating more inclusive fiscal governance. Efforts to generate greater budget transparency, citizen participation in resource allocation, and public oversight of government spending are commonplace. How can development donors and lenders support such efforts, and what are their limitations? How do their attempts to do so interact? Exploring the outcomes of two projects in the Nigerian States of Jigawa and Kaduna provide some answers to these questions. The projects pursue overlapping goals, but with different approaches.
