Abstract:
The modern development of high-speed transport causes a requirement toughening of the safety requirements for rolling stock and upper track components. Researchers and constructors are actively working towards the creation of more complete and adequate models of constructers and their elements, as well as new materials for their manufacture. The problem of studying traditional materials in various modes of rolling stock operation, including increasing the frequencies of dynamic influences and imposing effects from various loads and oscillations to the high-frequency area, becomes relevant and timely. This work is devoted to modeling the influence of high-frequency loading on a sample made of rail steel, this kind of influence takes place when rolling stock passes through an artificial constructer. It is assumed that the work of the rail within the sleepers step is described by the laws of uniaxial tension-compression. Experimental results and conclusions on ultrasonic high-frequency cyclic tests and structural analysis of the model material - low-carbon steel of the perlite class are presented.

Title: The community of peers as an arena for democratic education: What possibilities for participation can be found in play, among peers, in the kindergarten? Abstract: Children’s formal right to participate in the formation of their everyday life in Norwegian kindergartens, has led to several discussions of democracy connected to young children in kindergartens. This article represents an element in these discussions, based on experiences from fieldwork in a Norwegian Kindergarten. The main focus is the playful community of peers and what negotiation of participation is related to, in this community. Four observations of children’s negotiation of participation provide the content and the structure of the article. The aim is to reveal the problematic and various ways children are constructers and also being constructed as citizens in their community of peers.

Abstract:
The Lean philosophy essentially refers to the way in which processes and operations are defined. Within this new concept, we seek to increase value for the customer, reduce parcels that do not add value, simplify processes, reduce cycle time, reduce variability, increase transparency etc. In this context, the present research was developed in the civil construction realm, more specifically in companies that construct vertical buildings, located in the city of João Pessoa. This study aims to perform a diagnosis about the behavior, attitudes and management actions of constructers in relation to the application of the lean construction philosophy. In order to do that interviews were carried out in a group of five constructors, in which we tried to evaluate through forms the engineering point of view, as well as five other stakeholders’. We identified the level of maturity of companies and their managers, regarding the lean behavior in which a larger part of the constructors demonstrated the knowledge about its content, always looking for an application of the lean philosophy in its enterprises.

Abstract:
This study examines how students in Finland (16-18 years of age) constructed meaning and knowledge in a collaborative online reading situation. Student pairs ( n = 19) were asked to write a joint essay on a controversial issue. First, the pairs discussed the topic freely to activate their prior knowledge. Next, they gathered source material on the Internet. Finally, they composed a joint essay. The data were collected using an interaction approach to verbal protocol data, along with video screen captures. In the analysis, three units were employed: episodes ( n = 562) for describing online reading practices; utterances ( n = 944) for identifying collaborative reading strategies; and collaborative reading patterns ( n = 435) for clarifying how the student pairs constructed meaning and knowledge. Collaborative reading patterns were categorized according to a four-part model. A hierarchical cluster analysis was conducted to identify students’ collaborative reading profiles. Five collaborative reading profiles emerged: co-constructers (two pairs), collaborators (two pairs), blenders (six pairs), individually oriented readers (four pairs), and silent readers (five pairs). Overall, it appeared that some students were capable of working in pairs, whereas others had a stronger preference for working alone. Collaborative profiles might offer teachers both an evaluative and an instructional tool to support collaborative interaction in their classrooms.

Abstract:
The overlapping mineral resources are always occupied by the various buildings and cannot be exploited anymore, so to determine their boundaries correctly is an important task for both local government and constructers. Based on “regulations about exploiting overlapping coal and keeping coal pillar for buildings, waters, railways and major tunnels”, the software is developed to calculate the overlapping mineral resources. Four main design steps about the software are illustrated, the main dialogue box of the software is introduced, which is composed of three part boxes. In the end Chaochuan industry square is selected as an example, variables are calculated by the software, and the protected boundaries are drawn in MapGis.

Abstract We deal with static prearranged couples in practice quite often. Constructers are using them a lot to improve rigidity of product. Some examples are mentioned in this article. The paper also discusses the models of kinematic couples in plane and models of kinematic couples in space. Spatial movable and non-movable couples are commented on as well. The article particularly focuses on application of statics in the assembly in spatial couples (movable, non-movable) for intentional allowance fix which leads to a non-problem assembly. With fix like this, it is possible to manufacture selected parts in series while assuring non-problem assembly.

Abstract:
The Bosporus is a unique place with its traditional architecture. The construction of new buildings along the Bosporus coast line are forbidden and only reconstructions of demolished original historic buildings are possible. Since 1984 legal authorities act different legislations about these reconstructions. Until 2005 the legislation gives permission for the usage of any structural material unless the overall appearance is the same as the original building. But after 2005 the legislation changed and the usage of original structural material became mandatory. The underlying reason of this is to protect the originality and authenticity of the Bosporus buildings both with their appearances and construction techniques. But the practical output became promoting the constructers for making the reconstructions without following the approved reconstruction projects or changing the reconstructions afterwards. In this paper structural system, external wall, window, and roof alternatives for reconstructions are compared and contrasted by evaluating the performance requirements. Examples of inappropriate reconstructions are documented and a tentative proposal is made for the reconstructions of the Bosporus region.

Abstract:
Purpose – Dialogic peer coaching as leadership can enable teachers to influence each other's professional learning. The purpose of this paper is to shift the emphasis from the role associated with the designated title of leader to the purpose and relevance of teacher leadership in the context of dialogic peer coaching. Design/methodology/approach – The research was undertaken as a small qualitative case study embedded in a school-based, teacher professional development project. Nine groups of peer coaches from five unrelated schools engaged in a formal process of collaborative inquiry over two years. Interview data from 13 volunteer teacher participants were analysed using the constant comparison method and themes determined. Findings – The study revealed that there was growth in teacher leadership capabilities as they become dialogic peer coaches to each other. Practical implications – Through their collaborative peer coaching dialogue teachers have the transformative space to articulate their thinking. They can engage in dialogic feedback where they are positioned as experts in their own practice. Social implications – The teachers in this study are positioned within communities of practice as co-constructers of knowledge and co-learners. On the basis of the findings the authors suggest that this can support the development of high capacity leadership in schools. This stance contrasts with a technicist approach to teacher professional learning in which teachers are situated as absorbers or recipients of knowledge constructed elsewhere. Originality/value – The research reported in this paper addresses three key elements of leadership: individual development; collaboration or team development; and organisational development. It outlines a means by which teacher leadership can be strengthened to address these elements in schools.

Abstract:
Purpose Multiple jobholders’ workplace learning is an under-researched theme, although it offers possibilities to add knowledge of learning at several workplaces at a time. The purpose of this study is to explore the career development and workplace learning of Finnish multiple jobholders with university degree. Design/methodology/approach The qualitative extreme case study of “elite multiple jobholders” was based on 45 in-depth interviews, which were analysed by abductive content analysis using the chaos theory of careers (CTC). Findings This study showed that elite multiple jobholders were attracted by meaningful jobs, which were significant, had broader purposes or offered possibilities for self-realization and self-development, whereas they criticized paid work organizations. They tried to anticipate the future working life and labour markets and adjusted their careers to them by educating and by choosing jobs with learning possibilities. However, they saw themselves as constructers of the future, which left them at vulnerable position concerning the institutional setting. They organized their work flexibly with different contracts and their professional identities were networked. Research limitations/implications This study is limited in Finns with university degree. Future research should inspect multiple jobholders with lower degree educations, in different contexts and with other methodologies. Originality/value This study gives an example of applying CTC as a holistic framework to study how individual careers emerge contextually and how they are recursively connected to work organization and working life changes. Possibilities to understand fractals are offered.

Abstract:
AbstractThis paper introduces a pattern for almost compositional functions over recursive data types, and over families of mutually recursive data types. Here “almost compositional” means that for all of the constructors in the type(s), except a limited number of them, the result of the function depends only on the constructor and the results of calling the function on the constructor's arguments. The pattern consists of a generic part constructed once for each data type or family of data types, and a task-specific part. The generic part contains the code for the predictable compositional cases, leaving the interesting work to the task-specific part. Examples of the pattern are given, implemented in dependent type theory with inductive families, in Haskell with generalized algebraic data types and rank-2 polymorphism, and in Java using a variant of the Visitor design pattern. The relationships to the “Scrap Your Boilerplate” approach to generic programming, and to general tree types in dependent type theory, are investigated by reimplementing our operations using those frameworks.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to propose a theoretical framework of applying the Internet of Things (IoT) technologies to the intelligent evacuation protocol in libraries at emergency situations. Design/methodology/approach The authors conducted field investigations on eight libraries in Wuhan, China, analyzed the characteristics of crowd gathering in libraries and the problems of the libraries’ existing evacuation plans. Therefore, an IoT-based intelligent evacuation protocol in libraries was proposed. Its basic structure consisted of five components: the information base, the protocol base, the IoT sensors, the information fusion system and the intelligent evacuation protocol generation system. In the information fusion system, Dempster–Shafer (D-S) evidence theory was employed as the information fusion algorithm to fuse the multi-sensor information at multiple time points, so as to reduce the uncertainty of disaster prediction. The authors also conducted a case study on the Library L in Wuhan, China. A specific evacuation route was generated for a fire and the crowd evacuation was simulated by the software Patherfind. Findings The proposed IoT-based evacuation protocol has four distinguishing features: scenario corresponding, precise evacuation, dynamic correction and intelligent decision-making. The case study shows that the proposed protocol is feasible in practice, indicating that the IoT technologies have great potential to be successfully applied to the safety management in libraries. Research limitations/implications The software and hardware requirements as well as the Internet network requirements of IoT technologies need to be further discussed. Practical implications The proposed IoT-based intelligent evacuation protocol can be widely used in libraries, which is one of the inspirations for the use of IoT technologies in modern constructers. Originality/value The application of IoT technologies in libraries is a brand-new topic that has drawn much attention in academia recently. The crowd safety management in libraries is of great significance, and there is little professional literature on it. This paper proposes an IoT-based intelligent evacuation protocol, aiming at improving the safety management in libraries at emergency situations.

Abstract:
In this paper, we investigate the complexity of computing the detector, constructor and lexicographic constructor functions for a given language. The following classes of languages will be considered: (1) context-free languages, (2) regular sets, (3) languages accepted by one-way nondeterministic auxiliary pushdown automata, (4) languages accepted by one-way nondeterministic logspace-bounded Turing machines, (5) two-way deterministic pushdown automaton languages, (6) languages accepted by uniform families of constant-depth polynomial-size Boolean circuits, and (7) languages accepted by multihead finite automata. We show that for the classes (1)–(4), efficient detectors, constructors and lexicographic constructors exist, whereas for (5)– (7) polynomial-time computable detectors, constructors and lexicographic constructors exist iff there are no sparse sets in NP−P (or equivalently, E=NE). Our results provide sharp boundaries between classes of languages which have efficient detectors, constructors and classes of languages for which efficient detectors and constructors do not appear to exist.

Abstract:
The present research features the basics of pedagogical support in the system of continuous education in the structure of actualization and generation of various pedagogical constructs and pedagogical constructors that facilitate a holistic understanding of the importance of personality development in the hierarchy of age-appropriate methods, forms, and technologies of educational and socio-professional activities. The authors clarify the concepts of "pedagogical construct", "pedagogical constructor", and "basics of pedagogical support in the system of continuous education". These concepts are described in the context of the adaptive-acmepedagogical, personified-productive, and functional-labor approaches that provide traditional and innovative models of the study and research of scientific-pedagogical phenomena and events, thus improving the quality of pedagogical solutions on micro-, meso-, and macro level. The implemented methods and technologies optimize the quality of production and facilitation, cooperation and self-realization, socialization, and self-actualization. The multidimensionality of the approach reveals the prospects for a teacher who would contribute to the personal development (construct "I want, I can, I must, there is"), as well as holistic and system-mobile formation of the student. In this research, a student is understood as a product that unites all the components of education: science, art, culture, sports, and other areas of socialization and self-realization. Pedagogical constructs and pedagogical constructors in the studies of the basics of pedagogical support in the system of continuous education are determined in various simulated and realized conditions, where productivity, personification, and health saving technologies determine the integrity of the choice of opportunities and results of pedagogical practice and pedagogical activity.

Abstract:
There are now more than 1,000 constructed wetland systems (CWs) in the UK. The first UK CW database was constructed by Water Research Centre (WRc) and Severn Trent Water Ltd to accompany a book on the design and performance of these systems. In that database, constructed by Gareth Job et al. (1996), only 154 beds were listed, most of which were tertiary sewage treatment sites in Severn Trent Water. The Constructed Wetland Association (CWA) was formed in 2000 as a UK water industry body in response to problems caused by unscrupulous constructors. A group of experienced, reputable designers and constructors formed the CWA to bring together best UK practice in order to counteract this problem. The group contains major water companies, designers, constructors, academics, plant growers and operators. They decided that one of the best ways of countering the problem was to assemble a database of design and performance from well-designed systems. After negotiation the CWA group took over responsibility for the database from WRc. The CWA has produced eight updates of the database which now contains information from more than 900 beds. It contains examples of the different variants of CWs in use in the UK. Most of these sites treat sewage/domestic wastewater but the database also includes examples of systems for the treatment of minewater, sludge, landfill leachate, industrial effluents, surface runoff and road runoff. Particular treatment applications are illustrated by case studies which are summary articles describing design, construction and performance.

Abstract:
Notions of childhood have been debated through time and place. This paper works from the understanding of childhood as an adult imposed, socially constructed and culturally transmitted concept. This paper provides a typology often ways in which adults construct children and childhood. The authors assert that in the process of defining children, adults necessarily and simultaneously define their own position/s in relation to children. Thus for each of the ten constructs of childhood, the authors present ten types of relationship adults consciously or unconsciously impose upon themselves when they work from these constructions. The authors intend that the typology presented creates a beginning tool for conscious, critical reflection of how we are perceiving children and how this perception may drive our work and relationships with them. It may also provide a reflective tool for imagining working differently with children in ways which better serve them (and us!).

Abstract:
LEGO bricks are one of the world’s most popular toys, part of a class of postwar playthings that addressed middle-class ideals of childhood creativity and educative play. As the company adapted to a globalized consumer culture in the second half of the twentieth century, however, it also relied on longstanding tropes of gender, history, and cultural others that put pressure on its claims as a provider of wholesome, “universal” play. This article unpacks how LEGO’s product designs, marketing, and theme park operations have commodified historical inequities, giving tangible form to stereotypes of a racially unmarked European past, colonial encounters with the “uncivilized,” and the gendering of domestic space and construction play.

Abstract:
The rate of unemployment among youths in Nigeria has assumed a worrisome dimension. More importantly that those affected are specialized graduates from tertiary institutions. The youth unemployment rate has been of persitent increase since 2014 from from 11.7% to 36.5% in 2018. It has been established that the vacancies exists, but the graduates lack the skills to match the jobs. Therefore, the aim of this paper was to identify the constructs and sub-constructs of employability skills that are needed to match Electrical Technology students with the labour market. The resaerch design is a qualitative metthod involving document analysis and interview protocol of stakeholders in electrical technology. The stakehoders were the academics and the employers. The documents were analysed using frequency matrix table. While the interview of the stakeholders (experts) were done thematically. To ensure the reliability of the constructs and sub-constructs, an item pool was constructed to determine the agreement and content reliability index for the constructs. From the item pool, 5 constructs and 193 sub-constructs were generated. These were constructed into instrument for expert review. Three experts in electrical technology rated the instrument for determining the aggreement level, using the Fleiss kappa approach. The percent agreement for the raters are 89.63%, 86.01%, and 81.86% respectively with a mean agreement of 85.83%. The 85.83% indicate an almost perfect agreement by the experts for each of the constructs in the instrument. This is very good for producing a functional framework of employability skills.

Abstract:
Purpose Post-occupancy evaluation (POE) demonstrates relevance nowadays. Because of the wide competition between construction companies, it is necessary to be assertive, so satisfied clients bring new clients through communication amongst the users. This paper aims to assist a construction company, evaluating apartment owner’s perceptions regarding the built environment, the perceived quality of services, the satisfaction and the value in use, in the context of multifamily buildings. Design/methodology/approach This paper presents quantitative research of POE, applying confirmatory factor analysis and multiple linear regression. These methods analyse how the attributes behave in each theoretical dimension and evaluate the relationship between the dimensions of the built environment and services including customer satisfaction and value in use. Findings The results demonstrate that the constructs associated with management aspects such as service, cause higher levels of satisfaction and, therefore, higher value in use. The results become guidelines for constructors, supporting management and project decision-making. Research limitations/implications This study’s limitation is related to the number of questionnaires applied. The survey was applied to the apartment owners in all five buildings from a constructor, considered as the entire population of the research. For that reason, there were not used a sample. Further studies are required to improve the results, even more, using the present research in a larger sample, seeking a better generalisation. Also, future studies might evaluate other types of constructions and environments. Originality/value This paper used marketing constructs related to satisfaction, value in use and service, applied in the construction field of multifamily residential buildings.

Abstract:
Studies of team-level constructs can produce new insights when researchers explicitly take into account several critical conceptual and methodological issues. This article explicates the conceptual bases for multilevel research on team constructs and discusses specific issues relating to conceptual frameworks, measurement, and data analysis. To advance programmatic research involving team-level constructs, several future research directions concerning issues of substantive content (i.e., changes in the nature of work and teams, member-team fit, linking team-level constructs to higher-level constructs) and strategic approaches (i.e., the construct's theoretical roles, dimensionality and specificity, malleability and changes over time, relationships with Big Data) are proposed.
