Full textConstructivism is one of the main paradigms in contemporary social science. It is also one of the most controversials. This thesis aims to understand the genesis of constructivism, to discuss some of its arguments, and to analyse the reasons of its success. Two empirical researches have been conducted. The first took place at the Centre de sociologie de l'innovation, a constructivist research unit directed by Bruno Latour and Michel Callon. The purpose of this research was to analyse the cognitive norms that underly constructivism. We show that these norms are different from those underlying other sociological paradigms, and that they explain part of constructivism's specificity. The second research concerned the Internet-based fan communities of a movie called The Matrix. The directors of this movie claim to have been influenced by the constructivist philosopher Jean Baudrillard. Based on the data obtained, we try to understand the reasons why constructivism has had success among non-sociologists

Full textMy research topics focus on the social responsability of researchers, their involvement and political engagement, all the way from the construction of knowledge to its formulation (research aesthetic) and dissemination. As I study others' engagement and their legitimation strategies, I also aim at formulating mine: a constructivism that holds itself accountable for its creations. This thesis discusses the role of experts in democracy; it is written in French. I highly doubt that I am able to summarize it in English, just as I doubt that exclusively English-speaking readers would be able to understand the manuscript in French

Full textDoes our use of the Internet change the way we live, and think of, our relationships ? Many discourses have accompanied the emergence and the massive adoption of the media, predicting both the best and the worst individual and social outcomes. Although research in that field has not always avoided a prophetic inclination, it tends nowadays to emancipate itself from determinist issues, and to favour studies carried on actual uses. It is in this last perspective that we conceived our approach, questioning the link between Internet use and interpersonal relationships. This link however, is complex and can not be reduced to a one-way causality relation. It involves the appropriation of the media and the formation of the usage to which the user’s relationships participate, as well as the implications of the usage, through which these relationships can possibly be maintained and new ones initiated. Internet use and relationships are thus profoundly entangled in a co-defining relation. Moreover, this relation is actualized differently for each Internet user, depending on their own history, personality, and circumstances. This is why we have opted for a comprehensive method : based on ten interviews with different users, our study first aims at understanding their respective experiences of the web, then at joining them in a cross-analysis, in order to bring pieces of answer to the more fundamental and global issue of the relational dimension and implications of Internet mediated communication

Full textThe following research took place in the general framework of professional didadits, which aims at three objectives : (1) to understand the work in order to facilitate its completion by confronting the usual pardigms of professional didatics with a professionnal situation related to dynamic environments linked to the living, i. E. The setting up of a colza crop. (2) The results derived from this study were then used to establish a simulator of colza crop. (3)This simulator was finally tested, first with a group of professionals in order to check its reliability, and then with a second year class of students preparing a vocational training certificate in agriculture. Our study allowed us to put into evidence two types of organizers in the activity of farmers. These two types were then used as guide-lines in the perspective of a better understanding of the activity. The elaboration of a simulator brought us to a reflexive stand concerning the nalysis of the activity and required the elaboration of tricks for its realization and presentation. Finally, the test situations that we experimented proved the relaibility of the simulated models thanks to the play on temporality that they allow. The study led with students helped us determine different strategies of use and of reaction in front of these situations and opened the way to a deeper analysis of debriefing practices

Full textMy PhD work aims to answer the following question: What are the knowing processes and thinking dynamics of management consultants when solving ambiguous problems in the context of their everyday activity? For this research, ‘constructivism' has been chosen as both the theoretical framework and investigative methodological paradigm. In my literature review, ‘knowing' is considered from three different perspectives, whose conceptualisations are confronted: cognitivism, constructivism and situated cognition. As an investigative paradigm, constructivism is ‘relativist'. My dissertation work offers a conceptual synthesis on the ontological and epistemological assumptions of the constructivist paradigm as well as a reflection on their methodological and ethical consequences. A specific constructivist methodological design includes both a specification of the methodological choices relative to the observation and interpretation of phenomena (‘the observed systems') and a reflexive interpretation and reconstruction of the subjective decision processes underlying those methodological choices (‘the observing system', i. E. , the researcher herself). Consultants' thinking processes were studied via a six month, on-site, ethnographic investigation in an international management consulting firm. A case study puts in evidence the methodological and interactive dimension of knowing while a more focused interpretation questions the basis and value of consulting expertise. In conclusion, the main the research findings and the scientific usefulness of constructivism as a scientific theory and/or investigation paradigm for organization science are discussed

Full textAntidifferenciationnist sociology of science proclaims or describes the collapse of boundaries between science and industry. The archetype of this new heteronomical science would be the "entrepreneur researcher", whose "entrepreneurial spirit" would allow better communication with the economic world. Translated into the political sphere, this idea becomes a common "doxa". In reaction against the failure of foundationalist forms of philosophy, this antidifferenciationnism, often overlapping with social constructivism, relies on a radical and controversial epistemology. The aim of this work is to bypass this kind of metaphysical dispute, in order to permit a fruitful discussion of the question of science's autonomy. I propose several concepts whiçh are then used for analysis of data collected for 81 entrepreneur-researchers (supplemented by case studies). This empirical study demonstrates the limits of antidifferenciationnist theory

Full textThis research addresses the pluralization of feminist emancipation’s forms in France since the mid-1990s in light of the conflict between materialist and queer feminisms. We have taken as our starting point the hypothesis that the linkage between these two political theoretic discourses is possible since it actually takes place in the « queer-feminist » movement’s militant practices. We argue that this combination is meaningful and deserves to be better theorized since it carries with it a message of radicalism and inclusiveness. The alliance of the two approaches questions the definition of the feminist subject, and especially the formulation of a political unity which is not essentialist. We analyze the extent to which both the (counter-)hegemonic approach and the project of a radical, agonistic and plural democracy provide us with tools to answer this issue. Our argument runs as follow : the discourse of radical constructivism that results from the union between materialistic and queer feminisms should develop a hegemonic strategy regarding the conception of the political subject for two reasons. First, this strategy takes into account the plurality of the contingency of the social realm. Second, it aims at unifying and stabilizing the political « Us » in order to reverse the various material domination’s manifestations. Such a constructivist theory thinks of the political realm as an institution of the social realm and develops an understanding of politics as the organization of conflict in a situation of undecidability
