This study has estimated the private consumption function for Ghana, by using the modified versions of the Bailey (1971) and Cerea (1982) models, the Kormendi (1983) model and the Tridimas (1992) model to cover the period from 1955 to 1990 inclusive. Abstract:

Abstract This chapter advances two main arguments: first, that tourism and migration are strongly inter-related, and that this is due to both their shared structural determinants (for example, transport infrastructures) in the form of scapes, and to the enfolded nature of mobility. That is, individual mobilities are enfolded over time, with earlier migration experiences influencing later patterns of tourism and vice versa. Second, it is argued that there are two main economic development outcomes of the migration-tourism nexus. The first is seen in the roles of individuals as consumers, that is, as tourists. Tourism expenditures convert into income and jobs so that migration flows have long-term implications for future tourism expenditure patterns. And secondly, migration plays an important role in the territorial redistribution of resources; migrants are bearers of knowledge, skills, competences and capital.

Human diet and health will always be a topical issue irrespective of the times, society, economic development, etc. The aim of this chapter is to highlight the presence or absence of correlations between food consumer expenditure and health goods and services consumer expenditure. Over three-quarters of the correlations between the consumer expenditure categories and subcategories are statistically significant and approximately a half of them underscore a moderate intensity. The patterns of the relationship between food consumer expenditure and health goods and services consumer expenditure for the same countries are identified. Twenty patterns which contain country groups are pointed out for the ten connections among consumer expenditure categories. The correlation between high food consumer expenditure and the high weight of people who are suffering from specific diseases is emphasized.

Abstract:

The chapter’s main aim is to provide evidence for the need to differentiate consumer behaviour exemplified by drinking patterns and the various factors influencing these patterns as to different European clusters. These clusters emerged from the empirical research stage of the COBEREN project. They are compared to currently well-known European cluster differentiations (i.e. geographic clusters, cultural clusters, or Established European Economic Settings vs. Transitional European Settings in Central and Eastern Europe). This research aims to investigate European consumer behaviour on drinking, hypothesizing that other than the traditional cultural and/or geographical clusters, differentiated explanatory factors emerge calling for more localized strategies of the beverage industry. A new contribution to knowledge relating to differentiated consumer behaviour patterns not existing so far could eventually be provided. This new knowledge contribution is reflected by a triangulation of qualitatively (picture selection analyzed by Sphinx software) and quantitatively derived explanatory factors of drinking behaviour (i.e. content analysis, correlation, and multiple regression analysis). Very interesting in this context is the discussion as to if the often currently cited differentiation of settings based on mainstream cultural and geographical categories correspond with the actual behavioural patterns, or if new insights could be won for a different, and eventually, more localized differentiation of European clusters. A variety of innovative cluster profiles and the explanatory factors on budget expenditure provided are regarded as very useful for informing managerial strategies (see also the chapter on managerial implications) regarding, for example, the often existing strategic dilemma as to standardization and/or adaptation.

Cloud computing has been one of the most disruptive technologies, which has changed the way IT is consumed by enterprises, both small and large. The ability to subscribe to “as-a-service” consumption model, while converting capital expenditure to operational expenditure, has been a key driver for Cloud adoption. Rapid provisioning and deprovisioning of services, elastic scaling of infrastructure resources and self-service ability for users are some of the key characteristics and benefits offered by Cloud. Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) provides the basic building block, with Platform as a Service (PaaS) providing a layer of abstraction on top of IaaS and similarly Software as a Service (SaaS) providing a layer of abstraction on top of PaaS. Moving up the layers reduces complexity and enables users to tap into a much larger spectrum of benefits that Cloud computing has to offer. While Cloud opens the door for “as-a-service” consumption model, there are many additional benefits that can be realized by enterprises beyond the typical IaaS, PaaS and SaaS. A number of these benefits can be realized by leveraging Cloud in different scenarios and use cases. For example, an enterprise may continue to pursue a traditional non-Cloud based infrastructure deployment strategy, however, it could use a public Cloud for storage elasticity. Such use cases exemplify many atypical benefits that Cloud can provide, which often got overlooked. This paper will present a number of such cloud deployment use cases that go beyond the typical IaaS usage of cloud. A hierarchical architectural model of cloud solution pattern is proposed to describe both the business requirements and technical considerations of these use cases. These cloud architectural patterns are further elaborated through real-life case studies and examples.
