Health information technology (HIT) aims to improve healthcare services by means of technological tools. Patient centered technologies such as personal health records are relatively new HIT tools that enable individuals to get involved in their health management activities. Consumer debt is a growing phenomenon in the US and throughout the world. The beginning of the 21st century has been defined by such an incredible growth in consumer debt that American families have increased their debt relative to personal income four times faster than in the 1990s. Since the Federal Reserve began measuring the amount of American consumer debt and consumer income in the 1980s, consumer debt never exceeded consumer income until 2004 when it reached 104.8% of income. In the last two decades, researchers have observed a significant correlation between debt and mental health. The

An electronic health record (EHR) can be defined as the digital version of an individual’s medical history. EHRs are intended to improve the quality and efficiency of health care, decrease costs and prevent medical errors. Previous studies have shown that achievement of the potential benefits from EHRs depends largely upon the adoption and continued use of EHR services by health care consumers (Esmaeilzadeh & Sambasivan, 2017; Hanna et al., 2017). Further research, therefore, is necessary to better understand the factors that influence consumer EHR adoption. This study aims to investigate the
