This thesis uses a Vector Autoregressive Model and an Impulse response function to examine the impact of rising oil prices on personal consumption expenditure in Sweden. In Sweden the use of fossil oil has been declining for several years, and by 2045, Sweden aims to have no net emissions of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, although, there is still a lot of oil left in the energy system, not least in the transport sector. As Sweden has continued to reduce its oil dependency and carbon dioxide emissions, it is interesting to investigate whether the international oil price has an impact on

Most attempts by governments to reduce black market activity target the supplier rather than the consumer. The current thesis, however, sees reducing the willingness of the consumer to buy such goods as crucial in reducing the market. Over three studies, I examined variables that affected consumers buying from black markets and their perceptions of black markets. Study 1 (80 participants) confirmed the hypothesis that when the need to buy from a black market was for survival it would be considered more acceptable than to save money or to buy luxury goods. The price elasticity of demand coefficient for a good or service is a measure of the sensitivity, or responsiveness, of the quantity demanded of a product to changes in the price of that product. A simple linear demand function was employed, using the changes in the Consumer Price Index as a proxy for changes in price and Personal Consumption Expenditures, taken from the National Income and Product Accounts, as a proxy for quantity. This study examines the relationship between changes in commodity prices and changes in inflation in Canada between 1983 and 2008 by looking at the ability of the Bank of Canada Commodity Price Indices to predict changes in the Consumer Price Index. It is found that indices with energy components lead changes in inflation but only for the latter half of the sample period, 1996-2008. Other suspected leading indicators of inflation, such as the money supply, the foreign exchange rate, the housing index, interest rates, and the price of gold, do not change the relationship or its strength. First, based on the price setting behavior of foreign exporting firms, we discuss the impact of exchange rate on import prices, and use the Quandt-Andrews approach to discover the structural break among variables in July, 1999. And then, we separate the whole sample into two subsamples by this structural break and observe how the exchange rates affect general consumer prices based on the price settin
