Abstract:
The monograph is a comprehensive study of the current practice of resolving cases on determining the place of residence of children, the procedure for communicating with them separately living parents and other relatives; restriction and deprivation of parental rights; on the departure of children outside the Russian Federation and return within the framework of the Convention on Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction of 1980, the Convention on Jurisdiction, Applicable Law, Recognition and Enforcement and Cooperation in relation to Parental Responsibility and Measures for the Protection of children of 1996.The relations that develop between the child and parents, the child and the court, parents and the court, as well as parents as parties to the process are analyzed. The central place is occupied by the study of the content of the concept of the best interests of the child as a guarantee of the protection of his rights and the vector of development of the current legislation. The cases of abuse of parental rights and improper performance (or non-performance) of parental duties, illustrated by current judicial practice, are considered. The analysis is presented: measures of family legal responsibility, including restriction and deprivation of parental rights in connection with non-execution of a court decision on the upbringing of a child; features of the application of principle 6 of the Declaration of the Rights of the Child in resolving disputes about the place of residence of children; the possibility of taking interim measures in disputes between parents about upbringing; the ratio of legal and psychological categories in child-parent relations in order to apply special knowledge; the procedure for conducting forensic examinations in these categories of cases. Finally, the possibilities of out-of-court settlement of some family disputes, including through mediation, are investigated. For a wide range of readers interested in the rights of the child. It will be useful for students, postgraduates and teachers of law schools.

Salmon, Karen. Parent–Child Construction of Personal Memories in Reminiscing Conversations: Implications for the Development and Treatment of Childhood Psychopathology. Oxford University Press, 2018. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/oso/9780198737865.003.0019.

Abstract:
Strong theory and research implicates parent–child conversations about the past in the child’s development of critical skills, including autobiographical memory and understanding of emotion and minds. Yet very little research has focused on associations between reminiscing and the development of childhood psychopathology. This chapter considers what is known about reminiscing between parents and children where there is anxiety or conduct problems. These findings provide clues as to how children come to manifest difficulties in autobiographical memory and emotion competence. Thereafter, the text reviews studies that have attempted to alter the style and content of parent–child reminiscing in clinical populations. The full implications of parent–child reminiscing, as a rich context for children’s development, have yet to be realized in clinically relevant research.

Abstract:
This book focuses on family-based interventions for the continuum of parent–child problems, including affinity, alignment, justified rejection, alienation, and hybrid cases. Reintegration therapy is often recommended for families with these dynamics, but relatively limited clinical writing and virtually no program evaluation data exist to inform the selection of interventions. This book helps fill this gap. In Part I, the authors review a range of topics related to this specialized area of practice: assessment and clinical decision-making, the state of research evidence for outpatient treatment, and special clinical topics such as the management of countertransference among professional teams and the use of experiential therapies to overcome treatment resistance. Part II highlights one whole-family, psychoeducational approach to parent–child contact problems known as the Overcoming Barriers approach. Founders of this program and affiliated clinicians explicate components of this model in chapters on its therapeutic milieu; psychoeducational groups for rejected parents, favored parents, and children; and coparenting and parent–child interventions. The translation of model components to outpatient practice is also discussed, and program evaluation data are presented. Authors emphasize the evolving nature of this one approach, including areas of overlap with other family interventions, and highlight lessons learned from this innovative program.

Abstract:
African childrearing has been documented as primarily social in nature and driven by responsibility and respect for elders. Socially distributed care is common and reflects strong kinship ties that serve as a social welfare system in times of need. This chapter describes the practice of child fosterage in a southern African context among the Owambo of northern Namibia and explores parenting practices and communication between families and children. Relying heavily on ethnographic field work, the chapter paints a portrait of child fosterage and attempts to capture the complexities of how economic, moral, and social motivations to foster children in and out of the natal home play out in the organization and texture of family life. Ultimately, the chapter explores how parents “parent from afar” within the culturally normative system of child fosterage.

Jonsson, Jan O., and Carina Mood. Sweden: Child Poverty during Two Recessions. Oxford University Press, 2017. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/oso/9780198797968.003.0011.

Full text
Abstract:
This chapter looks at child poverty trends in Sweden across two recessions, the first (severe) 1991–6, and the second (hardly noticeable) 2008–10, using a number of measures. Absolute (bread-line) household income poverty and economic deprivation surged, with some lag, during the first recession, but shrunk steadily as the macro-economy improved up until around 2006, after which there is no trend but temporary fluctuations. Relative income poverty fell somewhat during the earlier recession but has grown since the mid-1990s, mainly because of a more precarious situation for one-parent families and non-employed parents (often immigrants). In a rare but theoretically important step, child poverty is also measured by young people’s own reports, showing few trends between 2000 and 2011. While material conditions improved somewhat, relative poverty did not change, in stark contrast to household relative poverty—perhaps because poor parents distribute more economic resources to their children during hard times.
