Abstract:
Abstract The issue of improving the efficiency of business operations is of particular importance in the conditions of modern business environment. For managers, the big challenge is how to achieve and to maintain, not to mention how to improve efficiency in a highly heterogeneous, complex, uncertain and unpredictable business environment. Significant sources of enterprise efficiency in a modern business environment are enterprise restructuring, business activities, as well an integrated approach to cost management, which is becoming an increasingly important determinant of business success and a source of competitive advantage. The paper provides an overview of theoretical and empirical research of the effects of certain sources on the performance of the enterprise. The conclusion is that only the complementary exploitation of all sources contributes to improving the efficiency of the enterprise in the long run.

AbstractThe competitive, ethical and legal attitude is a powerful element in increasing business development rhythm, but if it is guided towards the level of sublegal and the hits applied to competitors, then it turns into an anti-business, anti-development, anti-cohabitation, anti –productive environment. The competitive, ethical and legal environment is beneficial for economic activity and social development.Regardless of the form in which it takes place, business competition is complex in nature, including the development environment, resources, methods, contestants and competitors, directions, market shares, factors and locations.Competitive complexity includes cultural factors, behaviors, promotional policies, regularities and morality, conjectures and recessions, personnel recruitment and picking up, distribution opportunities and facilities, complex and indispensable utilities, sharing human resources, energy, financial and material resources, policies of selection, cooperation, counteraction, annihilation or removal, procurement policies, dominance in areas or market shares, ingenuity, new products and services, investments and financial availability, capabilities of organization, of presentation, demonstration, of keeping the relations with the consumers.

Abstract:
The requirement to address risk in the prevailing business environment has been accentuated due to the constraints of the pandemic. It is proposed that the nature of risk context has been fundamentally altered by the global events of COVID. This paper provides a perspective that is based on an exploratory study of the identification and addressing of risk, in terms of business projects.A review of the literature has been undertaken and the key themes for the study topic identified. A senior manager, who is responsible for risk management at a company that runs international projects, was interviewed in an empirical study. A thematic analysis was performed, employing an inductive approach, in this research into a single case. The aim was to contribute to the prevailing literature and enhance understanding of the post pandemic business environment, in respect of risk management. The principal questions concerning risk and risk management are discerned. The objective is to consider risk in the post pandemic environment, in order to improve understanding of the issues relevant to business. The requirement to address these issues is also covered, with an attempt to determine the main themes from the research, in order to assist practitioners. The use of technology to support business continuity and achieve business objectives during the pandemic is discussed. An articulation of Lewin’s change model is proposed to summarise this work and assist in the comprehension of the contemporary situation.

Abstract:
Many small business owners in the United States dream about getting a large contract with the federal government, feeling that their lives would be easier if they did. Ironically, there have been numerous occasions where small businesses have gone out of business after being overwhelmed by a government contract. This case study addresses how small businesses can improve their survival and success rate in the public sector with a strategic approach to their operations. It begins by discussing the preparation that goes into federal contracting by small businesses. Case examples of four American companies involved in contracting with the Department of Energy are evaluated. Data collection is achieved through qualitative analysis. The application of these conclusions could increase the survival rate of small businesses operating in an unstable public environment. The study is significant because this research widens contemporary assumptions about strategic thinking for small businesses engaged in government contracting.

Abstract:
The main characteristics of the business conditions of today's companies are frequent and intensive changes. The dynamic business environment of modern companies requires a new way of management that involves an implementation of new management models, methods, techniques and instruments that are adapted to the modern environment and able to respond to challenges and solve problems that arise in new business conditions. The aim of the paper is to describe the specifics of driver-based budgeting, as one of new management instruments. In comparison with traditional budgeting, driver-based budgeting possesses multiple advantages for companies that enable responding to changes in business environment in a more agile way. These advantages, as well as some perceived difficulties with its implementation in companies are described in the paper. The results of the paper contribute to the further development of the theory and can be an incentive for future research, as well as basis for making recommendations and practical instructions that could help companies improve their budgeting system.

Abstract:
Formal institutions such as business chambers have been assumed to be a key indicator of the health of state-business relations (SBR). Yet in Africa these organizations have seldom risen to the level of access and influence enjoyed by some of their counterparts elsewhere in the developing world. A number of recent studies of SBR in Africa continue to overstate the importance of business associations (BAs). Yet despite the widespread marginality of BAs in Africa, the receptiveness of African states to leading firms and business interests has increased markedly. While this poses certain risks of increased corruption, collusion and monopoly, the institutional and political environment for doing business has also improved, thereby fostering new opportunities for further business-related growth and business sector development among bona fide firms. Drawing on evidence from Zambia and elsewhere, this paper finds that the benefits provided to individual firms who enjoy state access can, paradoxically, contribute to an improved environment for other private sector actors whose interests are directly represented only in moribund formal associations. Even without strong BAs, when aided by the state, individual firms, and/or international actors, Africa's improved business environment has a salutary impact on growth.

Abstract:
Purpose Tribal economic development in post-settlement era Aoteroa/New Zealand has opened up opportunities for Maori to invest in the sustainable commercial utilisation of their traditional economic resources. Mahinga kai (traditional food and food sources) has always been at the heart of the Maori tribe Ngāi Tahu’s spiritual, cultural, social and economic existence. The purpose of this research is to revitalise mahinga kai enterprise through the commercial development of traditional and contemporary food and food resources in a culturally commensurate manner. Design/methodology/approach Participant action research theory and practice were used by researchers from Toitū Te Kāinga (Regional Development Unit of Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu) between 2008 and 2012. This was informed by a Kaupapa Maori philosophy of respect and empowerment of the participants’ needs. Findings The development of the Ahikā Kai Indigenous business system shows that competitive advantage can be created for Indigenous businesses and enterprises through a four-pronged strategy based around: first, human rights that empower tribal members; second, product differentiation based on cultural principles; third, an internal accreditation system to help verify the ethical credibility of the products; and fourth, lowering producer costs through website marketing and direct-to-consumer selling. Originality/value This research adds to a growing (yet still evolving) body of literature on Indigenous entrepreneurship and the role of voluntary certification in Indigenous business development. The Ahikā Kai business system is an original world first for this type of Indigenous development based on creating a competitive advantage for multiple independent enterprises while maintaining the core integrity of its cultural brand and its operations.

Abstract:
In the business world of today, most activities are connected to informational technologies. They enable and facilitate business, but with action and adequate use of these technologies by people. Nowadays, we increasingly talk about the ability to adapt to changes in the working environment and the use of human capital. One of the most important requirements placed before business organizations are the capability to manage information technologies. It includes the entire package of knowledge, skills, and abilities of employees in organizations, in order to master the requirements of changeable information technology and complete the goals of its organization. Basically, it includes informational technologies, i.e., digital competences connected with lifelong learning, and adaptation of employees and their organizations to novelties that informational technologies continuously bring. As one of the contemporary scientific approaches, this paper uses the indicators of adaptation to changes in the business environment, i.e., human capital subject to continuous learning and informational technologies, the process of adaptation to changes, which turns the crucial business competences into contemporary ones. Mutual connection of these parameters in business concept has shown openness of organizations to contemporary business and work. Although the sample of research in this paper included public institution, not companies, the research itself is of great importance, given that there have been no similar approaches in Bosnia and Herzegovina so far. The research, through surveys of government officers, has shown that the influence of informational technology on the working environment and business organization in which government officers work is evident, as well as that the environment needs contemporary competences that include a set of digital competences, continual learning, and numerous other elements in business. The conclusions of this paper are shown that is necessary for continual monitoring and specialization of government officers in the area of use of informational technologies in everyday business. The recommendations round out the process of contemporary approach and future comparison; in order to realize business results in their organizations due to certain competences.

The following article deals with the basic principles of intercultural management and possible improvements in terms of cultural, ethnic and gender diversification. The results are exemplarily applied to a bank located in Germany. The aim of this paper is to find out to what extent intercultural management could improve the productivity of Relatos-Bank in dealing with foreign employees or employees with a different cultural background. To achieve this goal, the authors con-duct a literature research. The main sources of information are books, journal articles and internet sources. It becomes clear that especially the different perceptions of different generations have a potential for conflict, which can be counteracted by applying presented scientific models. Equalizing the salaries of female and male employees and equalizing the rights and distribution of power could also be the key to becoming an open-minded, dynamic and fair organization that is pre-pared for the rapidly changing environment in which it operates.

Abstract:
Contemporary business environment imposes new business rules. The maximization of profit and shareholder value cannot be the only aim of an enterprise. Instead, enterprises are forced to maximize value of all stakeholders in order to survive in the long run. The issue of sustainability has become of crucial significance, and especially measurement and reporting on sustainability, as well as, its effects on financial performances, as still dominant ones in the contemporary business performance measurement models. Hence, the subject of the research is the enterprise sustainability in the contemporary business environment. The aim of the research is to stress the role and the significance of the sustainability in the process of improving the enterprise efficiency. The research results show that the enterprise sustainability has the positive implications on the business performances in the long run, as well as on the welfare of all stakeholders. In order to be more transparent, it is desirable for enterprises to create the sustainability report, in the integration with the traditional business report, which would give the complete overview of enterprise efficiency.

Abstract:This article first describes some of the chief contrasts between Judaism and American secularism in their underlying convictions about the business environment and the expectations which all involved in business can have of each other—namely, duties vs. rights, communitarianism vs. individualism, and ties to God and to the environment based on our inherent status as God’s creatures rather than on our pragmatic choice. Conservative Judaism’s methodology for plumbing the Jewish tradition for guidance is described and contrasted to those of Orthodox and Reform Judaism. One example of how Conservative Judaism can inform us on a current matter is developed at some length—namely, privacy in the workplace. That section discusses (1) the reasons for protecting privacy; (2) protection from intrusion, including employer spying; (3) protection from disclosure of that intended to remain private; (4) individualistic vs. communitarian approaches to grounding the concern for privacy; and (5) contemporary implications for insuring privacy in business.

Abstract:
The article examines the impact of scientific and technological progress and changes in politics and economics on management in organisation. The effectiveness of contemporary governance systems can be assessed using well-known criteria: average gain; a cautious observer (Wald’s criterion); Laplace criterion; maximax et al. The use of the VUCA-world philosophy has predetermined the search for a solution to the problem of developing new requirements for the knowledge and skills of managers and specialists in the organisation, the availability and formation of competences. In line with the aim of the work – to find new approaches and requirements for management decision-making and organisation management – new requirements for assessing the changing environment, the business response to these changes, and new aspects of managerial and personnel behaviour in organisations have been identified. It has been revealed that in business training it is necessary to pay more attention to the formation of the desire for self-improvement and the development of the ability to overcome difficult situations, to divide goals into subgoals, tasks into stages. The methods of analysis and synthesis, induction and deduction have been used. Applying the results of the study in practice will improve the management of contemporary organisations.

The purpose of this study is to explore the relevance of business ethics in the contemporary world in the light of the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and to find an enforcement mechanism for Prophetic business ethics. Current literature available on Islamic business ethics was reviewed to identify the relevance of Prophetic business ethics to modern business. In the final analysis, it is concluded that Islamic ethics are unique because they are based on the unity of Allah and accountability in the hereafter. Moreover Islamic concept of brotherhood justifies observance of ethical standards uniformly in all circumstances. Prophetic business ethics are based on the principles of lawful and un-lawful which restrict human activities to be squandered in the wrong direction. Prophetic business ethics are based on all good and the creation of an environment that is based on mutual benefit and care. The fear and love of Allah and sense of accountability in the hereafter is the real enforcement of ethics in individuals as well as in society. The findings highlighted in the article propose a collective effort to enhance ethical business activities among Muslims.

Abstract:
Contemporary business organisations need to be responsive to internal as well as external changes. Organisational intuitiveness, being fundamental to this responsiveness, requires that these organisations develop and manage their information processing and management infrastructure to enable an integrated and informed environment. Organisations generally have a deterministic approach to technological infrastructure development and do not give requisite attention to soft factors that shape its use. Information technologies, however, are strategic resources that require supportive human action through appropriate set of roles, responsibilities, and decision rights to works effectively, evolve in use, and enable value on continuous basis. This paper presents a case of an information technologies governance in a financial services organisation. It highlights that governance practices need to be institutionalised in the organisation, such that they become an integral part of the organisational, social, and technical environment of the business.

Abstract:
AbstractThis article investigates the contemporary Turkish business environment as shaped by the economic, political and cultural transformations of the past 30 years. The changes in the forms and mechanisms of government intervention in the economy, the spatial relocation of industry, the rise of “Anatolian capital,” and the cleavages within the business community generated by the increasing salience of Islam in society and politics are some of the interrelated themes that will be pursued in the article. To understand the current context and the configurations of interest in the business community it is necessary to have a closer look at the manifestations of politics in business life. Political factors are important at the level of government-business relations where the political authority continues to mobilize a series of legislative and administrative mechanisms for the privileged treatment of those businesspeople with the right political and sectarian affiliations. Politics also enters the business environment through the role played by different business associations. These associations not only represent the interests of different segments of the business community, but they also shape the ways in which economic interests are defined, presented in policy terms and pursued through different strategies. In this context, the article also draws attention to the political cleavages that are manifested at the local level where they are managed and kept under control with different degrees of success.

The Internet as a communication medium, with its possibilities and its rapid development, revolutionized the way of doing business, so much so that it pushed a large number of economists to declare that, in the coming years of doing business through information technology, will be one of the most preferred opportunities for businesses and consumers across the globe. The main purpose of this paper is to identify the opportunities that businesses have to influence the economic development in the Republic of Kosovo, through their ability to generate new jobs, increase exports, and contribute to improving the living standards of the citizens of the Republic of Kosovo. Kosovo, using the Internet, as a contemporary and competitive form of business development. In order to realize such an environment, of course we have to consider two main issues, one to recognize and identify the problems that business has and another issue, how much human and material capacity Kosovo has, to provide a favorable environment. doing business online. The study realizes the first issue, which means that, in a scanned way, we tell the decision-making institutions that here are the administrative barriers that concern the business, here are the obstacles that unfairly tire the business, etc. The second issue should be asked by the relevant institutions and it should be noted that, if we want a success and sustainable economic development, then Kosovo should also provide an attractive business environment by applying the Internet. We conclude that favorable conditions must be created for the development of business and the Internet, in order for it to be efficient and sustainable, which is a necessary precondition for achieving the main goals of a sustainable economy, which contributes to the generation of countries. new jobs, improving the welfare and living standards of citizens in the Republic of Kosovo.

Sport franchises are challenged to operate within the fast-changing environment of the professional sport industry. The purpose of this paper is to ascertain the extent to which these organizations are changing and to understand why some organizations have embraced the competitive strategies and institutional beliefs of their contemporary environment, while others have remained relatively unchanged. The concept of archetypes was used to create two templates for professional sport franchises: The sport-centered archetype and the business-centered archetype. Data were then collected from interviews with representatives of five AAA baseball franchises, documents were retained from the league's public relations firm and the franchises themselves, and information was assembled from newspapers and trade magazines. The results of the research indicated that one organization was in the sport-centered archetype, three were in the business-centered archetype, and one was between the two archetypes. It was found that a trigger for change and the ownership of the franchise impacted heavily on the ability of the franchises to adapt to their contemporary environment.

Abstract:
ABSTRACTThe family firm, DAL Group, is Sudan's largest and most diversified company. Its growth has concentrated on consumer goods, rather than on state concessions or exports. It has developed its own training programmes, construction units, transportation networks and market research departments to manage the unstable environment outside its business walls. This paper focuses on the company's recruitment policies, demonstrating how the firm relies on its own internal family structure and a transnational network of Sudanese professionals in order to grow and prosper. Such self-reliance contributes to growing political frustration among young unemployed people. Graduates from ‘marginal’ areas rely more heavily on public advertisements and on information obtained from state bodies, not the private channels of wasta (personal intermediation) that cut through contemporary business. The paper concludes by comparing DAL with similar business networks in Ethiopia and Rwanda, arguing that DAL is a unique and interesting form of ‘enclave economy’, shaped by a displaced transnational elite operating in a hostile political environment. Within the wider political context of Sudan, there is a limit to what similar businesses can achieve.
