Abstract:
Abstract Categorical Monism (that is, the view that all fundamental natural properties are purely categorical) has recently been challenged by a number of philosophers. In this paper, I examine a challenge which can be based on Gabriele Contessa's [10] defence of the view that only powers can confer dispositions. In his paper Contessa argues against what he calls the Nomic Theory of Disposition Conferral (NTDC). According to NTDC, in each world in which they exist, (categorical) properties confer specific dispositions on their bearers; yet, which disposition a (categorical) property confers on its bearers depends on what the (contingent) laws of nature happen to be. Contessa, inter alia, rests his case on an intuitive analogy between cases of mimicking (in which objects do not actually possess the dispositions associated with their displayed behaviour) and cases of disposition conferral through the action of laws. In this paper, I criticize various aspects of Contessa's argumentation and show that the conclusion he arrives at (that is, only powers can confer dispositions) is controversial.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Eleven onion (Allium cepa L.) cultivars were selected to evaluate their yield performance under the arid conditions of the Riyadh area in the Central region of Saudi Arabia during the 1996–97 and 1997–98 growing seasons. The selected cultivars were: Colossal PVP 234, Contessa, Dorado, Red Creole, Ring Master, Rio Sultan, RioTalat, Texas Grano 502, Texas Early Grano 502, Und Grande and Yellow Spanish. Yield (ton/ha) and yield attributes such as bulb diameter, length, weight and dry matter were assessed. Transplants grown in plastic trays for 45 days under greenhouse conditions were transplanted in the field on 7 Jan. 1997 and on 29 Dec. 1997 and harvesting was carried out on 19 May 1997 and on 15 May 1998 for the first and second season, respectively. Significant differences were observed between cultivars and among growing seasons, with significant interaction for yield and bulb weight. The top high yielding cultivars in the first season were Und Grande, Texas Early Grano 502, Colossal PVP 234, Contessa and Dorado. In the second season, Dorado, Red Creole, Contessa, Ring Master and Und Grande outyielded other cultivars. Under the conditions of this study, Contessa, Dorado, Red Creole, Texas Early Grano 502, and Und Grande had the highest yield attributes that made them recommended for growing in the arid regions. The yield and yield attributes of each cultivar will be discussed.

AbstractThe duration of polarity Chron C31r is estimated with a cyclostratigraphic approach. Two sites are investigated: ODP Site 762 (Indian Ocean) and the Contessa Highway section (Gubbio, Italy). Cyclostratigraphic analysis is performed on greyscale variations (Site 762) and magnetic susceptibility variations (Contessa section). Both sites reveal an astronomical control of the sedimentation, highlighted by the identification of all the orbital periodicities. Cyclostratigraphic signals are tuned on 405 ka eccentricity cycles extracted from the La04 astronomical solution. In both sites, cycle counting gives an estimate of the duration of polarity Chron C31r of about 2.09 ± 0.03 Ma.

Abstract:
Representative varieties and genotypes of different colored onions were compared to determine the extent of differences in the distribution of quercetin and quercetin glycosides. The dry skins, outer rings, and inner rings were separated and extracted with ethanol to obtain quercetin glycosides that were then hydrolyzed to free quercetin, or aglycone. Free quercetin was used as the standard for quantification by reverse phase high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Significant difference (P=0.05) in total quercetin content was observed between dry skin and inner rings (edible parts). A decrease in total quercetin content was observed from the dry skin to inner rings. The highest total quercetin content was observed in the dry skins of Red bone variety (30.74 g/kg dry weight) while Contessa variety contain the least amount (0.082 g/kg dry weight). Total quercetin content in outer scales (1-2 scales) in Kadavan variety is the highest (481 mg/kg fresh weight); however, trace amounts are observed in Contessa. Inner rings (5-6 and 7-10 scales) contain less amount of total quercetin in all the varieties. Outer scales of all the varieties except 1015Y and Contessa contain moderate amount (2.5-16 mg/kg fresh weight) of free quercetin. Kadavan contain the highest amount of free quercetin (20.64 g/kg dry weight).

Abstract:
The dramatic and musical climax of 'The Marriage of Figaro', perhaps Mozart’s operatic masterpiece, is famously marked by the unexpected forgiveness of the Count by the Countess, whom the count has infamously refused to forgive earlier in the opera. This article will explore the musical and psychological ramifications of forgiveness and the refusal to forgive within couple relationships, not only in this opera but also in two other great Mozart operas, 'Don Giovanni' and 'Così fan tutte', in which issues around forgiveness are also implicitly central. It will be argued that Mozart’s very differing and contrasting realisations of this core human and couple dynamic through his unique dramatic, verbal, and musical talents may partially account for the reputation of these operas for depth and universality.

Abstract:
A field study was conducted in order to evaluate 16 onion crops for their yield, grade and susceptibility to pests and diseases under field conditions in San Cristóbal, Dominican Republic. The cultivars 'Texas Grano 438', 'Liberty', 'Lexus', 'Domingo', 'Serrana', 'Mercedes', 'Yellow Granex', 'Cougar', XPH 6700, 'Sebaqueña', 'Contessa', 'White Hawk', 'Diamante', 'Red Creole', 'Híbrido Rojo' and 'Sivan' were distributed in randomized complete blocks with three repetitions. Experimental units consisted of two double rowsthree meters in length. 'Red Creole', 'Yellow Granex' and 'Contessa' were utilized as prototypes for the red, yellow, and white onion crops, respectively. Onion crops were managed following a medium level technology package recommended for the zone. The variables evaluated were early development, diameter of thebulb neck at harvest, number of rings per bulb, incidence of pests and diseases, yield grades, total commercial yield, percentage of twin bulbs and percentage of rotten bulbs after curing. Statistical analysis revealed that among yellow cultivars, the materials with the best attributes of yield and bulb quality were 'Texas Grano 438', 'Lexus', 'Liberty' and XPH 6700. The yield of the of 'Texas Grano 438'. Among white onion crops, 'Diamante' and 'Contessa' were significantly better than 'Sebaqueña' and 'White Hawk' in terms of early development and/or yield. For the red crops, 'Red Creole' was significantly inferior than 'Híbrido Rojo' and 'Sivan' in bulb grade and yield.

Abstract:
TPS1107 Background: Chemotherapy treatments with robust efficacy that preserve quality of life are needed. Tesetaxel (T) is a novel, oral taxane that has potential advantages over currently available taxanes, including: oral administration with a low pill burden and Q3W dosing regimen; no observed hypersensitivity reactions; preclinical evidence of CNS penetration; and improved activity against chemotherapy-resistant tumors. Over 600 pts have been treated with T in clinical studies. T had robust monotherapy activity in a Phase 2 study in 38 pts with HER2-, HR+ MBC who received T Q3W, with a confirmed ORR per RECIST 1.1 of 45% and median PFS of 5.4 mo. The confirmed ORR in taxane-pretreated pts was 45%. Preclinical and clinical studies suggest that reducing the dose of capecitabine (C) in combination with a taxane may result in reduced toxicity without reduction in efficacy. Preclinical data also suggest that T may penetrate the brain at clinically relevant concentrations. CONTESSA investigates T plus a reduced dose of C as an all-oral regimen in HER2-, HR+ LA/MBC, with revised eligibility criteria to allow inclusion of pts with CNS metastases. Methods: CONTESSA is a 600-pt, multinational, multicenter, randomized (1:1), Phase 3 registration study comparing T (27 mg/m2 on Day 1 of a 21-day cycle) plus a reduced dose of C (1,650 mg/m2/day on Days 1-14 of a 21-day cycle) to the approved dose of C alone (2,500 mg/m2/day on Days 1-14 of a 21-day cycle) in pts with HER2-, HR+ LA/MBC previously treated with a taxane in the (neo)adjuvant setting. The protocol was newly amended to allow pts with known CNS metastases. The primary endpoint is PFS assessed by an Independent Radiologic Review Committee (IRC). CONTESSA is 90% powered to detect a 42% improvement in PFS (HR = 0.71). Secondary endpoints are OS, ORR, and disease control rate. Enrollment began in Dec 2017. Following review in Jan 2019, the Independent Data Monitoring Committee recommended that the Study continue as planned. Clinical trial information: NCT03326674.

Abstract:
Abstract An integrated stratigraphic study of the upper Paleocene to lower Eocene Scaglia limestones of the Contessa Road section has allowed us to identify the classical markers of the Paleocene-Eocene transition. The section provides a good magnetostratigraphic record as well as a continuous calcareous nannofossil and foraminiferal biostratigraphy. A negative Carbon Isotopic Excursion (CIE) occurs in the lower part of Chron C24r. The calibration to calcareous plankton zonation indicates that the CIE occurs in the lowermost part of calcareous nannofossil Zone NP10 and the upper part of Zone CP8, that is in the planktonic foraminiferal Zone P5. In the same stratigraphic interval, a distinct turnover in the calcareous benthic foraminifera and a sharp change in the Deep Water Agglutinated Foraminiferal (DWAF) assemblages have been recognised. The record of DWAF, however, indicates a gradual initiation of such a change beginning some 150 k.y. before the CIE and BEE.

Abstract:
When Adriana Ivancich is mentioned as a figure in ernest hemingway's life, it is usually with derision, incredulity, or else a barely constrained “Did they or didn't they?” breathlessness. The idea that Ivancich, who was not even born when Hemingway wrote The Sun Also Rises (1926) and A Farewell to Arms (1929), was the inspiration behind the teenage contessa Renata, Colonel Cantwell's improbable love interest in Across the River and into the Trees (1950), has generated a sometimes hostile reaction. However, this crucial figure in Hemingway's post-World War II life and writing deserves investigation. To the extent that she has been a blind spot in scholarly circles, the oversight can be attributed to a language gap. Her letters to Hemingway, her memoirs, her brother's memoirs, and much of the important analysis of Hemingway's involvement with the Veneto are written in Italian.

Methods: CONTESSA TRIO is a 2-cohort, multinational, multicenter, P2 study. In Cohort 1, 90 pts (potential expansion to up to 150 pts) with metastatic TNBC who have not received prior chemotherapy for advanced disease will be randomized 1:1:1 to receive T at 27 mg/m2 Q3W plus either: (1) nivolumab at 360 mg Q3W; (2) pembrolizumab at 200 mg Q3W; or (3) atezolizumab at 1,200 mg Q3W. Nivolumab and pembrolizumab (PD-1 inhibitors) and atezolizumab (a PD-L1 inhibitor) are approved for the treatment of multiple types of cancer; atezolizumab, in combination with nab-paclitaxel, was recently approved in the US for the treatment of metastatic TNBC. The dual primary endpoints for Cohort 1 are ORR and progression-free survival (PFS). A sample size of 30 pts in each PD-(L)1 inhibitor treatment group has approximately 70% power to detect an ORR difference of ≥ 35% between the treatment group with the highest ORR and the treatment group with the lowest ORR. Secondary endpoints include duration of response (DoR) and overall survival (OS). Efficacy results for each of the 3 PD-(L)1 inhibitor combinations will be assessed for correlation with the results of each of the 3 approved PD-L1 diagnostic assays. CONTESSA TRIO is the first randomized clinical study to compare 3 approved PD-(L)1 inhibitors. In Cohort 2, 40 elderly pts (potential expansion to up to 60 pts) with HER2- MBC who have not received prior chemotherapy for advanced disease will receive T monotherapy at 27 mg/m2 Q3W. The primary endpoint for Cohort 2 is ORR. A sample size of 40 will allow the ORR to be estimated with a maximum standard error of < 8%. Secondary endpoints include PFS, DoR and OS. Pts with CNS metastases are eligible for both cohorts. The study was initiated in March 2019. Clinical trial information: NCT03952325 .

Abstract:
The main objective of this work was to determine the adaptation potential of tomato genotypes for greenhouse. Genotypes evaluated were: hybrids: Contessa, Summer Flavor 5000, Summer Flavor 6000, Celebrity, Bonita, Shady Lady, Sunbolt, Sunny, Heat Wave and Olympic; and the variety Flora Dade, as a check. The variables evaluated were: yield, agroclimatic and physiological. agroclimatic and physiological variables were determine in three evaluations in the crop cycle, at three times/day and two leaf positions, in each evaluation. Significant correlations were found (p≤0.05) between yield in t/ha and mean yield by plant, fruits by plant at harvest, and yield by plant, and between photosynthesis and water use efficiency. Principal component analysis showed first five components have an Eigenvalue greater than one, explaining the first three with a 72% of total variance. The first component, with a 36% of total variance is due to “The yield characteristics” component two, with a 23% of total variance, is due to “internal temperature regulation characteristics” and component five, with a 7.4% of variation, to “photosyntates efficient production”. Multiple linear regression analysis difference was significant (p<0.01). Yield in t/ha was explained by the multiple linear equation (r2 =0.98) of four variables.

Abstract:
Warm-season grasses are not widely accepted in Mediterranean countries because they lose color during the winter months. A study was conducted at the University of Padova (Padova, Italy) to determine whether fall and spring water-soluble carbohydrate (WSC) content in stolons of seeded bermudagrass cultivars (Cynodon dactylon) influenced spring green-up in the first year of establishment. Nine bermudagrass cultivars (La Paloma, Mohawk, NuMex Sahara, Princess 77, Riviera, SR 9554, Barbados, Contessa, and Yukon) were seeded in July 2005, and dry weight and WSC content in stolons were measured in Fall 2005 and again in Spring 2006. The percentage of green cover and days needed to achieve 80% green cover (D80) were regressed against November and March values of stolon dry weight and WSC content to determine if they were good predictors of D80. ‘Yukon’ showed earliest spring green-up by end of April, and ‘Princess 77’ and ‘Riviera’ were slowest, needing 43 to 46 days more than ‘Yukon’ to reach D80. There was a significant inverse relationship between November (r2 = 0.57) and March (r2 = 0.77) WSC content in stolons and D80 for all nine bermudagrass cultivars. These results suggest that bermudagrass cultivars with high WSC in stolons recover more rapidly from dormancy during establishment than those with low WSC content.

Abstract:
1061 Research Funding: Odonate Therapeutics, Inc. Background: T is a novel, oral taxane with unique properties, including: oral administration with a low pill burden, a long (8-day) half-life in humans, once-every-3-weeks dosing, no observed hypersensitivity reactions and significant activity against chemotherapy (CT)-resistant breast cancer cell lines. T had encouraging monotherapy activity in a phase 2 study in 38 pts with HR+, HER2- MBC, with a confirmed objective response rate (ORR) per RECIST 1.1 of 45% (Seidman, 2018 ASCO Annual Meeting, Abstract 1042). In CONTESSA, a randomized phase 3 study in 685 pts with HR+, HER2- MBC previously treated with a taxane, T plus a reduced dose of C improved progression-free survival (PFS) as assessed by the Independent Radiologic Review Committee (IRC) vs. the approved dose of C alone: median of 9.8 months (mo) vs. 6.9 mo, an improvement of 2.9 mo (HR=0.716; p=0.003) (O'Shaughnessy, SABCS 2020, GS4-01). Methods: CONTESSA 2 is a multinational, multicenter, phase 2 study of T (27 mg/m2 on day 1 of a 21-day cycle) plus a reduced dose of C (1,650 mg/m2/day for 14 days of a 21-day cycle) in pts with HR+, HER2- MBC previously treated with 0-1 prior CT regimens for MBC and not previously treated with a taxane. The primary endpoint is ORR as assessed by the IRC. The secondary efficacy endpoints are duration of response (DoR), PFS and disease control rate (DCR) as assessed by the IRC, and overall survival (OS). Results: 150 pts were enrolled and treated. 80% had visceral disease, 46% had de novo MBC, 52% were previously treated with a CDK 4/6 inhibitor and 33% were ≥65 years old. At the prespecified interim analysis approx 4 mo after the last patient enrolled, the confirmed ORR was 51% (95% CI: 42%-60%), and the unconfirmed ORR was 63% (95% CI: 54%-71%). The median DoR was 9.5 mo (95% CI: 5.4-11.5 mo), the median PFS was 12.9 mo (95% CI: 8.1 mo-NR) and the DCR was 71% (95% CI: 62%-79%). OS data are immature. Grade (Gr) ≥3 treatment-emergent adverse events (TEAEs) occurring in ≥5% of pts were: neutropenia (74.0%), leukopenia (10.7%), hypokalemia (7.3%), anemia (6.7%), hand-foot syndrome (6.0%) and diarrhea (5.3%). Gr 2 alopecia occurred in 11.3% of pts, febrile neutropenia occurred in 4.7% of pts and Gr ≥3 neuropathy occurred in 2.0% of pts. Discontinuation of T and C due to any adverse event occurred in 13.3% of pts. Conclusions: An all-oral regimen of T plus a reduced dose of C demonstrated a high level of antitumor activity in pts with HR+, HER2- MBC not previously treated with a taxane. The confirmed ORR was 51%, median DoR was 9.5 mo and median PFS was 12.9 mo. Neutropenia was the most frequent Gr ≥3 TEAE; the rate of febrile neutropenia was 4.7%. Rates of clinically significant alopecia and neuropathy were low. Clinical trial information: NCT03858972 . Clinical trial information: NCT03858972 .

Abstract:
This article examines the “turn to lifestyle” in the longstanding genres of how-to and domestic advice programming, which began in 1994 with the launch of Home & Garden Television (HGTV) and the Food Network. It frames lifestyle's spread across the growing cable television system in the late 1990s and 2000s as the result of industrial conditions that favored the growth and consolidation of cable networks, as well as growing cultural interest in “lifestyle” as a consumerist form of identity. In this context, a turn to lifestyle in programming offered the new networks HGTV and Food Network a way to broaden the appeal of their programs in an increasingly competitive niche cable environment, as well as to secure upscale audiences for advertisers. The article examines a range of HGTV and Food Network programs that utilized lifestyle's logic, including Emeril Live!, Paula's Home Cooking, Barefoot Contessa, Divine Design with Candice Olson, Design on a Dime, and Small Space, Big Style. In such programs, lifestyle became codified in a set of televisual logics that departed from those found on how-to programs: they articulated middle-class fantasies of ordinariness, had an attenuated focus on instruction in favor of the more diffuse and aspirational concept of “inspiration,” and posited small-scale domestic gatherings as the ideal mode of social engagement in a period of diminishing wealth and income security.

Abstract:
The potential for east Texas to produce Brassica that could compete favorably with the import market exists. This study was conducted to establish optimum nitrogen and boron rates for 4 Brassica spp. grown on highly leachable east Texas soil, a Bowie series (fine-loamy, siliceous, thermic, Plinthic Paleudult). Broccoli (Brassica oleracea L. Italica, var. Green Comet), cauliflower (Brassica oleracea L. Botrytis var. White Contessa), Chinese cabbage (Brassica rapa L. Pekinensis var. Monument), and Chinese mustard (Brassica rapa L. Chinensis var. What-A-Joy) were field grown using 5 rates of N (0, 50, 100, 150, and 200 kg·ha-1) interacted with 3 rates of B (0, 1.25 and 2.5 kg·ha-1) in a complete randomized design with 3 reps. Harvested broccoli heads increased average head weight (HW), average head size (HS), and total yield (Y) for each increase of N. Cauliflower HW, HS, and Y increased up to 150 kg N ha-1. B supplementation did not statistically affect HW, HS, and Y of broccoli or cauliflower. Chinese cabbage Y increased up to 150 kg N ha-1 and produced less Y at 200 kg N ha-1 than at 50 kg N ha-1. Chinese mustard Y increased 50% for the 50 (kg·ha-1) N over no added N with additional N producing statistically equal Y. B at 1.25 (kg·ha-1) significantly increased cabbage Y, but had no effect on mustard Y.

Abstract:
There is a dearth of information about turfgrass drought resistance and adaptation in the Mediterranean region of Turkey. Turfgrass managers in this region need this information to help them make informed decisions regarding turfgrass selection and management. This research was conducted to assess the drought resistance of bermudagrass (Cynodon dactylon), buffalograss (Buchloe dactyloides), bahiagrass (Paspalum notatum), seashore paspalum (Paspalum vaginatum), zoysiagrass (Zoysia japonica), centipedegrass (Eremochloa ophiuroides), and tall fescue (Lolium arundinaceum) under Mediterranean conditions of Turkey. The study was conducted at two locations, Antalya and Mersin, and was repeated in 2006 and 2007 at both locations. One year after establishment, the turfs were subjected to drought stress for 90 days, which was followed by resumption of irrigation for recovery of the turf. Percentage leaf firing, turfgrass quality, and percent green shoot recovery were recorded. There were inter and intraspecies differences detected for percentage leaf firing and shoot recovery. Bermudagrass, bahiagrass, and buffalograss exhibited superior drought resistance as demonstrated by lower leaf firing and better shoot recovery values when compared with other species studied. Centipedegrass and zoysiagrass demonstrated a high leaf firing and very poor shoot recovery, whereas zoysiagrass and tall fescue were unable to recover from the drought stress in the sandy soil. Results showed that ‘SWI-1045’ (Contessa®) and ‘SWI-1044’ bermudagrass and ‘Cody’ buffalograss possessed superior drought resistance with acceptable turfgrass quality up to 30 days under drought stress that can be used for water-efficient turf management under the Mediterranean environment.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
Winter dormancy is the main impediment to a wide acceptance of warm-season turfgrasses in the Mediterranean countries of Europe due to a loss of color during the winter months. Scalping during late winter or early spring has been recommended anecdotally to enhance spring green-up of bermudagrass (Cynodon dactylon); however, information is lacking on the effectiveness of this practice. A study was conducted to investigate the effects of spring scalping on spring green-up of eight bermudagrass cultivars (Barbados, Contessa, La Paloma, Mohawk, NuMex Sahara, Princess-77, SR 9554, and Yukon) grown in a transition zone environment. The trial was carried out in Spring of 2009 and 2010 on plots established in July 2005 at the experimental farm of the University of Padova (northeastern Italy). Half of the plots for each cultivar were subjected to spring scalping, which was applied in both years on 13 Mar. with a rotary mower set at a height of 28 mm. Soil temperatures were recorded hourly during the research period at a depth of 2.5 cm. The percentage of green cover was estimated weekly from 0 to 98 days after spring scalping (DASS). Soil temperatures in scalped plots were greater than in unscalped plots. Among the cultivars tested, ‘Yukon’ showed earliest spring green-up, with no difference between the scalping treatments, reaching 80% green cover by the end of April. For all other cultivars, scalped plots reached 80% green cover 10 to 18 days earlier than unscalped plots. Results showed that scalping enhanced spring green-up, primarily for cultivars that recover slowly from winter dormancy.
