Full textThe central theme of this study is how to make french language learning attractive and profitable for a learner in a multilingual, multicultural society such as India - a society whose cultural references are different from those of France. Having had the opportunity of studying different creative and ludic techniques used in language teaching, i decided on my return home from France, to adapt these practices to the indian context. In order to check out if the indian environment was favorable to the introduction of creative and ludic activities i sent out a questionnaire to french teachers working in different academic and para-academic institutions. Their answers enabled me in the first place to have an overall view of the state of french language teaching in India. A comparison between the definition of the term "creativity" in different fields such as - industry, psychology, linguistics, neurosciences and general didactics - with that given by the indian teachers revealed how the latter interpret the term "creativity" and integrate it in their teaching practices. This study ends with the description and analysis of a trial run conducted in one of the groups (at diploma level) of the evening courses run by the university of poona. This description is completed by the analysis of the evaluations by the learners of course contents, activities and self-improvement, thereby helping to identify promising new areas for further research

Full textThis thesis is a clinical investigation of inequality. It looks to circumscribe the effect that ideology has in the early symbolic productions. Theoretically is based on concepts from sociology (Bourdieu, Bernstein, Wright, Boltanski), critical psychology (Burman, Parker) and psychoanalysis of the children play (Gutton, Winnicott). Methodologically is on the field of clinical research, working with results of interpretational discourse analysis, observation and interpretation of play in early childhood (children 3-5 years). In the frame of the research two studies were developed, the preview in a loisir Centre in Paris and the final one in Santiago de Chile. As results the research proposes two theoretical models: 1) structuring theoretical model representations of the adult world in which are located the effects of social stratification organized in the discourse of the subject, as ideological mechanisms involved in the legitimation of inequality process. 2) Theoretical model in which can be noted two types of games: extended and restricted, according to the possibilities to set out from that symbolic production, to acquire and developed reflective tools, about the subject position in the world, in the stratification and justice of this. This is an empirical study of high relevance for social intervention with children, for the design of public and social policy and the development of the theoretical aspects related to the micro social dynamics of the reproduction of inequality

Full textCurrently, with the rise of ubiquitous computing, one is growing interest in using the user context, for adapting applications and their contents to users’ needs and activities in real time, in different fields (tourism, smart homes, and hospitals). Many projects dealing with the definition and context models and management platforms have emerged. In the GeoEduc3D project, exploiting the context to improve the immersive and interactive aspects of interactive educational games is to be explored. This particular application framework (serious games, augmented reality, smart phones) is completely different and brings the issue of interoperability, which was not really addressed in previous work. Therefore, our work aims to design and implement a solution dedicated to the acquisition and dissemination of spatial context in a multi-players environment on and for smart phones. For this purpose, we first propose a definition and modeling of spatial context. Then we define the architecture of a service-oriented system for managing that information. To test our approach, a Web service prototype was developed according to three main functions: retrieving information from smart phones, storing data in the database and query flexible synchronous or asynchronous data. This research opens the way for the design and development of context-aware serious games applications for any type of smart phone, in a multiplayer environment.

Full textWithin the field of criminology, the ecological perspective argues for an implicit notion of spatiality, one which reduces the physical environment to nothing more than a basic geographical site, thereby excluding the power relationships, as well as the social and cultural dynamics, or values- and meaning-based dynamics, conveyed therein. As such, this study investigates the importance of geographical space in criminology. By employing the concept of liminality, defined as a symbolic space-time, this thesis also specifically studies the role space plays in the (re)production of both illegalisms and playful deviance, their respective regulation, as well as in the production of knowledge. In order to shed light on the liminality concept, this thesis draws on a five-and-a-half-month-long ethnography, carried out in two Costa Rican beach towns. It also illustrates how the tourism industry’s neoliberal practices produce a liminal space that caters to quests for the exoticism, and especially the hedonism and authenticity, sought by tourists seeking to escape the confines of their everyday lives. While a segment of the scientific literature views liminality as a space where everyday norms are suspended, this thesis instead suggests that tourists adhere to norms already present in such spaces, ones specifically based on an aggressive form of hedonism, which in turn result in “out of the ordinary” alcohol and drug consumption, as well as sexuality, on the part of tourists. In adopting an interdisciplinary approach, this study initially employs cultural geography’s notion of space. This conception of space, which employs an idealist-materialist dialectic, also allows for the adoption of an analytical perspective based on the concept of uneven development. It also makes it possible to understand not only why certain places, regions, and countries are recognized as being so-called liminal spaces, but also how the practices of a capitalist economy push them to rely on an image of liminality in order to survive and operate within the market economy. In additionally taking inspiration from social anthropology, this thesis views the touristic experience as a rite of passage, while also proposing that tourists are subjected to a symbolic device, which leads them to perform a site-specific tourist identity. This performance, given concrete form by the consumption of transgressions, results in the (re)production of the liminal space. The thesis also shows that this symbolic device is a regulating mechanism in regard to conducts, but additionally to bodies. Lastly, the thesis illustrates the ways in which the research field is also a liminality for researchers, one which affects them, as well as the knowledge produced therein.
