Abstract:
The contextual-discursive and syntactic-combinatorial side of the canonical and non-canonical antonyms contribute to the shaping of an antonymically configured discourse, as well as to the relief of an antonymic communicative-discursive impact. We consider that, in a functional-contextual plan, one can delimit the hyperonym concept discursive (functional) antonymy, along with the hyponymic concepts: stylistic antonymy, phraseological antonymy, paremiologic antonymy, aphoristic antonymy, terminological antonymy, scientific antonymy, etc. At the same time, contextual or occasional antonymy is part of discursive antonymy because its context or statement is specific to both canonical and non-canonical, occasional, contextual antonyms. In the present study, the focus is on stylistic antonyms, trying to identify in the present discourse a linguistic paradigm of opposing terms.

In our scientific work, the aesthetic views and philosophy of life of writers are reflected, and at the same time, individual characteristics when using poems in artistic speech - the words are antonyms, synonyms and homonyms. Basically, contextual antonyms, contradictions between semes as part of the meaning of a word in intergroup antonyms, characteristic of a kind of poetic antithesis (quasi-antonym), were studied.

Abstract:
The article argues that antonymous words are not isolated in the language but are part of the general scheme of thematic classification of the vocabulary, entering into close ties with representatives of synonymous and polysemantic groups. Proof of this position is the availability of antonymous-synonymous blocks and paradigms of meanings of antonymous words-polysemants in the language. This fact serves to understand the antonymy of lexical as a relationship between members of opposing dichotomous series, as well as expands the boundaries of closed binary structures, which are traditionally used to make antonymous connections. Antonymous relations are established to connect two opposites in pairs, as well as to combine several units into one polynomial structure. Words are found to have more antonyms than the corresponding number of meanings. This proves that some semes of one word are opposed by two or more synonymous antonyms. From the above-mentioned, it follows that the antonyms of polysemous words can be stated only within one family. Such a framework can be defined by limiting the range of antonymous units to a third common concept, under which two antonyms are summed up; establishing the antonyms of polysemous words through the contextual indicative minimum; distinguishing between the direct and figurative meaning of the word. The antonymous connections within the framework of the synonymous-antonymous paradigm are established to demonstrate a qualitatively heterogeneous character, differ in the strength of the manifestation of the relations of opposites and the frequency of practical implementation. The analysis of the manifestations of antonyms between the members of the dichotomous synonymous series allows distinguishing the following types: radial, linear, and cross radial. It is proved that the quantitative indicator of the formation of certain antonymous pairs from among the members of synonymous series depends on the volume of the synonymous series being compared, from the nature of semantic differences of the words of each series, from the emotional, evaluative, and stylistic characteristics of the members of the series, and the distribution of the words with relatively opposite meanings.

Abstract:
The article analyzes theoretical works on opposites and typological varieties of antonyms. It also considers features which influence on antonimous words entering into a relationship of opposition. The paper focuses on the study of the types of antonyms in Polish proverbs and sayings based on semantic, formal-structural and stylistic features. In a semantic relation the cases of presence two and more antonymous pair are fixed, which can belong both to the different types of antonyms or to the same one. Also a lot of opposition was defined based on the sex and family ties. The types of antonyms are analysed in relation to parts-of-speech expression. The analysis of single-root and multicolored opposition in thecomposition of the studied units, which resulted in the finding that the antonymic pairs formed bywith the help of different roots, make up the majority. The one-root antonyms in the composition are singled out Polish paremias, in particular the opposition, formed by adding prefixes to verbs bases and a negative part nie to the basics of nouns. The analysis of contextual antonyms recorded that more often opposed than individual words, and multi word part of paroemias. Issues that need further detailed study are outlined.

Abstract:
Herman Melville’s novel Moby Dick addresses the eternal problem of life and death, the human personality and its place in the universe. It is an exceptional piece of work about the tragic tension of the worldview, the sharpness of the material presented in it, and the most important role in this is played by antonymous linguistic means. The authors of the article present a comparative analysis of the linguistic means of the original text of the parable novel and its Russian translation with respect to the use of antonyms. The material of the article makes it possible to realize the role of the translator I. Bernstein in transposition of verbalizers of art values of the American literature on Russian soil, reveals its creative individuality and professionalism. Understanding the functional and stylistic importance of the antonymous component of the novel, in his translation I. Bernstein retains the most important in terms of content and style of this work a pair of lexical antonyms of the contradicting type: “Light — Darkness”, “Black — White”, “Tall — Short”, “God — Devil”, “Life — Death”. Contextual antonyms, word-forming antonymous pairs, metaphors based on antonyms available in the original text also have equivalents in the Russian version. Comparative analysis of the original text and the Russian version clearly shows that I. Bernstein’s translation is equivalent and adequate. The stylistic peculiarities of G. Melville’s novel “Moby Dick”, connected with the use of antonymic possibilities and conditioned by contradictory philosophical problems solved in the work, are preserved in the Russian version of the novel.

Abstract:
A proverb involves a set of operations that make it a linguistic and a cognitive, ontological, cultural and pragmatic phenomenon. In a discourse, proverbs and sayings function as verbal stereotypes: they are “ready-made” discourse units that reproduce, depending on the emitter’s intention and on the link with the message communicated. There are antonymic structures at paremiological level; thus, we identified different implicit and explicit proverbial contrasting structures that we gathered under the label “paremiological antonyms” (PrmA); we then distinguished two main types of PrmA: inter-paremiological antonyms and intra-paremiological antonyms. We exemplified on a Russian and Romanian corpus. PrmA are the most vivid example of the (co)existence of antonyms proper and occasional at phrase, contextual level.

Abstract:
This article offers a Cognitive Semantic approach to antonymy in language and thought. Based on a series of recent empirical investigations using different observational techniques, we analyze (i) the nature of the category of antonymy, and (ii) the status of its members in terms of goodness of opposition. Our purpose is to synthesize these empirical investigations and provide a theoretical framework that is capable of accounting for antonymy as a mode of thought in language use and meaning-making. We show that antonymy has conceptual basis, but in contrast to other lexico-semantic construals, a limited number of words seem to have special lexical status as dimensional protagonists. Form–meaning pairings are antonyms when they are used as binary opposites. Configurationally, this translates into a construal where some content is divided by a BOUNDARY. This configuration (or schema) is a necessary requirement for meanings to be used as antonyms and all antonyms have equal status as members. In contrast to categorization by configuration, categorization by contentful meaning structures forms a continuum ranging from strongly related pairings as core members to ad hoc couplings on the outskirts. In order to explain why some lexico-semantic couplings tend to form conventionalized pairs, we appeal to their ontological set-up, the symmetry of the antonyms in relation to the boundary between the meaning structures, their contextual range of use and frequency.

Abstract:
Distinguishing antonyms from synonyms is a key challenge for many NLP applications focused on the lexical-semantic relation extraction. Existing solutions relying on large-scale corpora yield low performance because of huge contextual overlap of antonym and synonym pairs. We propose a novel approach entirely based on pre-trained embeddings. We hypothesize that the pre-trained embeddings comprehend a blend of lexical-semantic information and we may distill the task-specific information using Distiller, a model proposed in this paper. Later, a classifier is trained based on features constructed from the distilled sub-spaces along with some word level features to distinguish antonyms from synonyms. Experimental results show that the proposed model outperforms existing research on antonym synonym distinction in both speed and performance.

Despite researchers’ attention to the theoretical and practical issues of sports terminology, football termunits still requires systematic research. Purpose of the article is to analyze synonymic and antonymic relations in the system of Ukrainian football terminology. The source base is the professional dictionaries, general language dictionaries, sports newspapers and magazines, professional, non-fiction and reference books on football issues, football programmes on TV, broadcasting of football matches, football Internetcommunication, oral football communication. In analyzed case of terms founded such types of synonyms: one-word terms-doublets, termssyntactic synonyms, definitional synonyms, stylistic synonyms. Absolute synonyms coincide with semantics, emotional colouring, compatibility, not frequency. Partial synonyms are dominated. It is found that antonymic synonyms in the football vocabulary convey the spirit of resistance in this sport. It is determined semantic opposition based on different types of relationships: a) semantic relations (gradual, complementary, vector, coordinate antonyms); b) formal and structural terms (with different and with same root); c) stylistic terms (general language and contextual antonyms). Summing up, football terminology needs constant attention of researchers, especially in its unification and standardization.

Abstract:
The literary works of Baroque writers is of paramount interest of literature and art critics, philosophers, but in linguistic circles verbal art of baroque has not been displayed comprehensively; besides, most of the linguists paid a great attention to poetry as the main representative of baroque art, embodied in word, prose works remain less studied. The research purpose is to analyze language means of the baroque idea expression of conflict of opposites in Ukrainian sermons of XVII century, which requires the identification of the main baroque ideas in homiletic works and which language means are used to express them. Artistic semantics of the conflict, attraction to contrasts and antitheses, conflict of opposites is one of the fundamental features of baroque. To show opposite sides of human life, the existence of good and evil, to reveal the idea of the necessity for every man to make a choice in the life, preachers use actively the expressing means of antonyms. Antonyms with the same root, with different roots and contextual ones are found in sermons. Two lexical units of different genesis made an antonymic pair. This study aims to describe the implementation of the Tadhad (antonym) method in acquiring Arabic vocabulary and analyze students' understanding of vocabulary acquired through the Tadhad method in Arabic language learning for 10th-grade students of Class A at SMA ISLAM 1 Surakarta. The study employs a qualitative approach using observation, interviews, and document analysis to obtain in-depth data related to students' learning experiences and vocabulary acquisition progress through the antonym method. The findings indicate that the application of the Tadhad method in Arabic vocabulary learning is effective in enhancing students' understanding of new word meanings due to the logical associations between antonyms, improving vocabulary comprehension through semantic relationships and real-world contexts, and helping students gain confidence in speaking Arabic. However, the implementation of this method requires additional strategies, such as the use of contextual examples and repeated practice, to maximize learning outcomes.

The factor that surrounds a person is nature. In this article, we analyzed the words used to describe the contradictions in the descriptions of natural phenomena in the content of the novel «Teniri (it is used instead of God their) Manas» by A. Dzhakypbekov, in particular, antonyms. Natural phenomena, the universe around us, the weather, each recognizes and excludes, alternates, unites. Each of these functions has its own name in our speech and consciousness. We have grouped the antonyms of lexical-semantic and grammatical meanings of natural phenomena in the content of the novel. We noticed that some of these examples are found in the plot of the epic «Manas». All kinds of antonyms are used in the novel, especially incomplete and contextual antonyms. We tried to study the style and structural structure of the text conveying contradictory meanings.

Abstract:
Our hypothesis foresees the presence of the following lexical abilities: synonyms, antonyms, categories, word function with or without sentence context. 215 girls and 257 boys in third grade, 240 girls and 255 boys in fourth grade, 245 girls and 276 boys in fifth grade (for a total of 1488) participated in this research project. The experiment was divided into 2 phases. In the first phase, 100 boys and girls, divided by age were asked to define words with high image value and dominant meaning and frequency of use in a list. The words were taken from short readings of elementary school literature. The passages used were those reflecting a popularity rating above 80%. The Flesch index of readability (with a value between 64 and 73, higher than mean value of 50) was applied to the readings. In the first phase we recorded the answers the children gave to questions such as “What does word X mean?” or “How would you define word X?”. The children were asked to provide the best written definition according to them. They were with no problems in reading and writing processes. We then proceeded to elaborate the test with four multiple choice questions. In the second phase, using the definitions provided by the children, we used trials subject to item analysis using calculations based on: index of difficulty, ability to distinguish, reliability factor (using the Kuder-Richardson formula). The definitive test was divided into eight parts including: synonyms, antonyms, categories, contextual and non contextual functions (PAV or Analytical Vocabulary Test, Florence, O.S., 1991).The results showed by means of factorial analysis times principle components (varimax method, N = 1488) the presence of two principal factors: Factor 1, contextual and Factor 2, non contextual. This data would seem to confirm that subjects when working out the definition of words, need two types of information: the context of the sentence in which the word is used (Factor 1, contextual) and the definition of the word without referring to the sentence (Factor 2, non contextual).

Abstract:
In the article the paradigmatic relations of the name of the TRANSFORMATION concept are defined and characterized on the basis of lexicographic works and text realizations. Synonymous with the conceptual unit of TRANSFORMATION lexemes objectify the phenomenon of transformation in the Ukrainian language, differentiating its expression by a set of conceptual features, such as: specificity / abstractness, spontaneity / purposefulness, procedurality and effectiveness, including various dimensions of transformations (in particular, ontological, social, individual). Antonymous relations that verbalize the phenomenon of transformation form groups of antonyms in the Ukrainian language, corresponding to three types of opposition: express the gradual qualitative opposite and the opposite of coordinated concepts, the opposite direction of action or feature, complementary opposite, i.e. the opposite of concepts that complement each other. Since the TRANSFORMATION concept has a certain number of conceptual features, the hierarchy can be as complete as possible on many features. According to the logical-conceptual criterion, the following types of ordering the conceptual features of the TRANSFORMATION concept are distinguished: 1) superordination (from a hierarchically higher notion) and subordination (from a hierarchically lower notion): transformation ↔ metamorphosis ↔ metempsychosis; 2) coordination (between notions that are simultaneously and directly attributed to the general superordinative notion) and diagonal relations (between opposite subordinate notions): transformation ↔ evolution / revolution; modification ↔ permutation / replacement / truncation / addition. The paradigmatic relations of the concept name, as well as the syntagmatic relations, form the perinuclear zone of the TRANSFORMATION concept field. Placement in this part of the field occurs in the direction of movement from the core to the periphery, which hierarchizes synonyms (ideographic, stylistic, contextual) to the word-name of the concept and antonyms.

Abstract:
The article analyzes idiomatic Latin expressions with semantically contrasting lexemes recorded in lexicographic sources. The concept of opposites in the works of ancient Greek philosophers (Heraclitus, Plato, Aristotle, etc.) is described. The productivity of Latin idiomatic expressions, semantically opposed components of which represent social phenomena, is traced: war – peace, life – death, courage – cowardice, glory – shame. The origin of the aphorism Si vis pacem, para bellum is commented. – If you want peace, prepare for war; Aut cum scuto, aut in scuto. – Either with a shield or on a shield; Cedant arma togae. – Let the weapon give way to the toga; Inter arma silent Musae. – When guns speak, muses are silent, etc., which are especially relevant at the present stage, examples of their use in Ukrainian poetry are given. Phrasemes with emotional contrasts and stable sayings, with antonymic components, which express temporal and locative characteristics, represent religious ideas of a person, are considered. In artistic texts, such catchphrases are actualized in both Ukrainian and Latin languages. Idiomatic expressions formed on the basis of the oppositions one’s own – another’s, good – evil, friend – enemy, friendship – enmity, etc. are described. Latin aphorisms with contextual antonyms have been singled out: mountain – fly, sea – drop, bad weather – Phoebus (sun), eagle – fly, elephant – fly, roses – thorns, etc. Oxymoronic syntagms have been revealed, which, while actualizing the connection between the polar components of oppositions, represent the contradictory essence of the depicted objects and phenomena of objective reality. Idiomatic Latin expressions used in jurisprudence and in many teachings and instructions on how to behave in certain situations based on semantically opposed lexemes have been recorded.

Abstract:
Abstract The disambiguation and processing of coherence relations is often investigated with a focus on explicit connectives, such as but or so. Other, non-connective cues from the context also facilitate discourse inferences, although their precise disambiguating role and interaction with connectives have been largely overlooked in the psycholinguistic literature so far. This study reports on two crowdsourcing experiments that test the role of contextual cues (parallelism, antonyms, resultative verbs) in the disambiguation of contrast and consequence relations. We compare the effect of contextual cues in conceptually different relations, and with connectives that differ in their semantic precision. Using offline tasks, our results show that contextual cues significantly help disambiguating contrast and consequence relations in the absence of connectives. However, when connectives are present in the context, the effect of cues only holds if the connective is acceptable in the target relation. Overall, our study suggests that cues are decisive on their own, but only secondary in the presence of connectives. These results call for further investigation of the complex interplay between connective types, contextual cues, relation types and other linguistic and cognitive factors.

Abstract:
Phrasal verbs, integral to English yet challenging due to their idiomaticity and syntactic variability, pose significant difficulties for Uzbek learners. This study proposes a lexicographic framework, tested through sample entries, for an English-Uzbek phrasal verbs dictionary, featuring alphabetically organized entries with stress patterns, phonetic transcriptions, grammatical indicators, and contextual examples. Drawing from Oxford, Longman, and R. Courtney’s dictionaries, the design categorizes phrasal verbs by transitivity, includes synonyms, antonyms, and usage notes, and aims to enhance comprehension and practical use. The approach offers a tailored resource for Uzbek speakers, with potential for broader application in bilingual lexicography.

Abstract:
“The city of the dead where everyone is alive”: Contextual synonymy of “life” and “death” in the prose of Mikhail ShishkinOne of the main characteristic features of Mikhail Shishkin’s prose is the tendency to eliminate the opposition of complementary antonyms, as life/death, or light/darkness. In the present paper analysis is offered of Shishkin’s artistic reality which determines the mutual permeability of semantic boundaries between the components of this antithesis and the appearance of such narrative formulae as “the city of the dead where everyone is alive” or “your son has fallen in action, but he is alive and healthy”. With M. Shishkin, being born, dying and being brought back to life, acquire a chance to happen again and again within the life span of one and the same personage. The antithetic nature of life and death is weakened or altogether annihilated by pragmatic validity of such statements, by the plot as well as by the author’s conscious intention. The substitution of syntagmatic ties between the elements of the narrative with paradigmatic ones and the introduction of pseudo-alogisms into the plot of the text allow the reader to accept them as true statements which is not inconsistent with the laws of artistic reality.„Město mrtvých, kde jsou všichni naživu”: kontextuální synonyma „života” a „smrti” v próze Michaila Šiškina V próze Michaila Šiškina se jasně projevuje tendence k zrušení protikladů ve významu komplementárních antonym život/smrt, světlo/tma.

Abstract:
The study explores the linguostylistic means in John Braine’s novel "Room at the Top" (1957), which enabled the author to show the character’s inner conflict between his craving for wealth and power and his morals, or the conflict of social stereotypes about happiness and authenticity treated in this article as the real self of Joe Lampton. The true self makes itself evident through the contradictions that torture him in the course of his efforts to overcome social barriers and renounce moral values. The research objective was to analyze the interconnection between the expressive means in the novel and the sense they imply. The linguostylistic, motivic, contextual, and definitional analysis revealed that the antithesis "materialism – moral values" is presented in the opposition of the images of two women. Both play a significant role in the main character’s destiny. The antithesis is conveyed with the help of expressive means, such as contextual antonyms, evaluative vocabulary, syntactic parallelism, irony, climax, metaphor, etc. Susan Brown’s image embodies Joe Lampton’s material values, while that of Alice Aisgill personifies his moral values and the gradual loss of his authenticity.

The article aims to identify the types of transgression in courtroom discourse. The study was carried out using discourse analysis as the main method. According to the mode of expression, the explicit type of transgression and the implicit type were determined. Forms of verbal expression of transgression are words and phrases with negative emotional coloring, and the use of contextual and conceptual antonyms. In cases of implicitly represented transgression, the true interpretations of the speakers are expressed by means of Aesopian language allegories. It is proven that the use of transgression ensures the success of the speech’s impact. The influence effect of transgression in courtroom discourse increases under the following conditions: frequent use; use of accusation and refutation strategies; emotionally charged vocabulary; piling up in narrative details, even inventing; and the construction of speeches on the principle of increasing transgression.

Abstract:
Semantics process plays a key-role in learning the literal and contextual meanings of a poem’s figurative-texture (Bredin, 1992; Cuccio, et al., 2014; Depraetere 2019). Improper understanding of semantics mechanism and contextual theories may lead also the common and determined audiences to learn ambiguious message and meaning of a word (Leclercq, 2020; Satta, 2020) that has many possible meanings which create semantic ambiguities and conflicts (Hoffman, et al., 2013). However, a poem audience must know that how does the meaning of a word or phrase work and how can he and she remove confusion to comprehend the literal meanings in the figurative language contexts of a poem. The figuarive-texture of Arnold’s Dover Beach is fabricated within diversed figures of speeches uploaded in the text. The collage text image of figurative texture presents common words and phrases with the byzantine meanings and misinformation of the synonyms and antonyms lexical pragmatic interface to the readers. In support and singnifant solutions for the research gap, this article attempt defined and described creatively to the role of semantics in the figurative-texture of Matthew Arnold’s Dover Beach so that collective and determined audiences can comprehend the poem creatically based on qualitative description research methodology.

Abstract:
The dictionary is an important reference source for finding the meaning of a word. The dictionary presents not only denotative meanings but also displays contextual meanings. This study aims to describe the macrostructure of the lemma in the dictionary, the definition of the lemma, and the relation of meaning. The method used in this study is a qualitative method with the subject of the Big Indonesian Dictionary. The object of research is the lemma in the dictionary. The data is selected and recorded in the data card and then identified based on the macrostructure of the dictionary, the definition of the lemma, and the relation of meaning to the definition of the lemma and between the entries. This study uses two approaches, namely the lexicographic approach and the semantic approach. The lexicographic approach was used to analyze the data based on the macrostructure and the lemma definition model. The semantic approach is used to determine the analysis of meaning based on the characteristics of the meaning relations of synonyms, polysemy, antonyms, opinions, meronyms, and homonyms. The results of this study found that the arrangement of the word combinations and sub-lemmas in the dictionary was ordered alphabetically, while the arrangement of the rephrasing and affixation sub-elements was ordered by the morphological process. The definition of a lemma uses the definition of synonyms, synonymous phrases, negation phrases with synonyms, phrases with adverbs, differential genus, differential genus + synonyms, synonyms + Differential Genus, and context definitions. The meaning relations that appear in the definition of lemma are synonyms, polysemy, antonyms, homonyms, and meronyms. The meaning relation that appears in the relationship between the entries is a homonym.

Abstract:
The principle of contrastive pattern on the structural and semantic levels in the proverbial text ar-rangement, according to leading paremiologists, constitutes one of the most striking paremic markers. The implementation of this principle in Kabardian-Circassian proverbs is still insuffi-ciently studied. Systematization of the inventory of stylistic devices through which opposition is realized in Kabardian-Circassian proverbs stamps one of the urgent tasks. The presented work brings us closer to the solution of the issue. The article is devoted to the investigation of one of the main stylistic figures of expressing contrast in a proverb - antithesis as a form of demonstra-tively highlighted opposition. The classification of the phenomena is proposed as based on the structural and functional characteristics of this stylistic figure. The most representative types of antitheses have been determined concerning Kabardino-Circassian paremias. The study reveals that contextual antonymic correlations along with linguistic antonyms productively participate in generating proverbial antithesis. The antonymizing explicator of the lexical units, containing po-tential opportunities for their contrastive opposition proves to be the antithetical construction it-self. The study of the structural and semantic features of Kabardino-Circassian proverbs convinces us of the universality of proverbial antithesis as essential means of expressing contrast, as well as the specificity of the ways of its formation, which determines the prospects for its further study. The main empirical base for the study of Kabardian-Circassian proverbs and sayings based on contrast comprise the material selected from collections of proverbs of 1994 (compiled by A. Gu-kemukh, Z. Kardangushev) and 2016 (compiled by L. Gutova), using a continuous sampling meth-odology.

Abstract:
The study "Understanding Vocabulary Knowledge of Secondary Students: A Convergent Study" explores the vocabulary proficiency of Grade 10 students at Saint Jude Academy in Maniki, Kapalong, Davao del Norte. Utilizing a convergent parallel mixed-method approach, the research integrates quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews to gauge the students' vocabulary knowledge across three key indicators: vocabulary form, vocabulary meaning, and vocabulary use. Findings reveal that students generally demonstrate a low level of vocabulary knowledge, with struggles in comprehension, pronunciation, and contextual application. Key psychological and motivational factors impacting vocabulary acquisition emerged, such as emotional satisfaction when learning new words and barriers like disinterest in English. Challenges in vocabulary comprehension and formation—like difficulties with word recall, understanding synonyms and antonyms, and grammatical usage—were significant. The study highlights the need for more engaging, student-centered vocabulary instruction to boost students’ vocabulary knowledge and language skills. These insights aim to support educators in refining vocabulary teaching strategies, thereby enhancing students' language competence and readiness for academic success.

The research featured theoretical issues of aphorism as a linguistic phenomenon. The article introduces its main semantic and stylistic characteristics that distinguish it from other phenomena, e.g. proverbs, idioms, sayings, quotations, etc. Linguists define aphorism as a literary genre, a sphere of knowledge, and a linguistic phenomenon. The present study focused on the linguistic approach to aphorisms coined by S. Dovlatov. Aphorisms are certified, reproducible, separable, concise, and have concept words. The authors studied the keywords the aphorisms are based on, related graphic and expressive means, and the structure of contextual aphorisms. S. Dovlatov's aphorisms proved to be contextual, since he never published aphorisms as a separate book. In his Compromise and March of the Lonely, the authors distinguished aphorisms and aphoristic utterances, which differed in structure Aphorisms consisted of one to three sentences, while aphoristic utterances included up to five sentences. S. Dovlatov’aphorisms included the following semantic features. For instance, they could be divided into thematic groups, e.g. "journalism", "freedom", "lie vs. truth", "moral qualities", "attitude to life", etc., with corresponding keywords, e.g. "decent person", "scoundrel", "provocateur", "journalist", etc. Another distinctive semantic feature was the active use of different stylistic devices, e.g. gradation, epithet, metonymy, etc., which verbalized emotions. In addition, S. Dovlatov often used contextual synonyms and antonyms. Most aphorisms revealed their implicit semantics only if the reader shared common background knowledge with the author. The structural features included comparative constructions, verb-noun phrases, and elliptic constructions as a marker of implicit semantics and catalyst of the reader's experience. The use of aphorisms could be attributed to the features of Dovlatov's creative manner. However, their ironic tone become clear only if the reader shares the same cultural code with the author. Abstract:
The paper examines the main lexical and phraseological expressive means used by the well-known Kabardian writer A.H. Naloev to create an artistic image in his historical novels. The relevance of the research topic is due to the need for in-depth study and comprehensive description of the lin-guistic personality, which attracts close attention in modern linguistics. The material of the analy-sis was the novels by A.H. Naloev "Horsemen of Dawn" and "House on the riverbank". The paper uses descriptive and comparative research methods, as well as methods of contextual-interpretative and linguistic-stylistic analysis. The results of the conducted research allow us to conclude that when forming logically completed, memorable artistic images in the analyzed works on a historical theme, the novelist, seeking expressiveness and imagery of the work, skill-fully used a wide range of means of expression to realistically convey the events reproduced by him in the novels, the time described, thoughts, aspirations, views and life philosophy of the char-acters, first of all, the possibilities of synonyms, synonymic series, antonyms, obsolete words, dia-lectisms, author's neologisms, phraseological units, which are powerful means of expressing emo-tional and expressive meanings in a literary text.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the identification of the asymmetric basis of explication of temporal oppositions in the Russian-language media discourse. The semantic-pragmatic potential of linguistic units representing the antithesis of “past / future” and its textual explicators is established and analyzed. Given the specifics of linguistic and extralinguistic factors, the features of modeling the current political picture of the world are revealed. It is emphasized that the asymmetry of the media discourse, which has become the subject of scientific research only in the last decade, is dictated by the manipulative orientation of media texts. An analysis of practical material allows us to conclude that the media texts of the beginning of the XXI century are a priori asymmetric and are built on both communicative and linguistic asymmetries, which consist primarily in the contraposition of linguistic and contextual antonyms that reflect polar political views and aspirations. The asymmetry of images of the past and future and the ambiguity of connotations inherent in the linguistic representatives of these images allow us to talk about the variability of the value component of the key categories of the political picture of the world and prove its dynamic nature.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to identifying the features of the linguistic representation of the idea of revolutionary renewal of the world, which is the most important for the worldview system of E. Zamyatin. The study was carried out in line with the anthropological trend that is relevant in modern linguistics. The focus is on vocabulary related to the reflection of the concept of entropy - energy transferred by E. Zamyatin from the field of physical and mathematical knowledge to the field of the humanities. Much attention is paid to the analysis of the functional features of words combined into a lexical-semantic group with a common meaning of the subjects of the revolutionary process, as well as the representation of the concept of revolution in the writer’s journalism. The main objectives of the study are to determine the individual author’s component in the meanings of keywords and describe their systemic relationships. The main research method is contextual analysis. In the process of identifying actualized semes in the structure of lexical meaning, the method of component analysis is used; when determining the subtlest semantic nuances associated with the peculiarities of the writer’s individual worldview, the semantic-stylistic method is used. Historical and literary articles and essays by E. Zamyatin became the source of factual material. The result of the analysis was a description of a significant fragment of his individual picture of the world. The study of the writer’s journalism in the proposed perspective was undertaken for the first time. As a result, a conclusion was made about the principles of constructing a lexical microsystem that reflects the dialectical views of E. Zamyatin, the contextual meanings of keywords were identified, and methods for updating these meanings were described. The principle of binary oppositions, which underlies the writer’s comprehension of reality, determined the specifics of his idiostyle: the use of language game techniques based on the opposition of the meanings of a polysemic word, the active use of contextual antonyms and occasional words.

The article is dedicated to the study of the concept “tenderness” in the Russian and Spanish language world pictures in comparison. During the study the connection between language and culture, which is reflected in the language picture of the world through the concept functioning as its unit. The focus of attention is concentrated on the emotional concept, which expresses image, evaluation and cultural significance. On the basis of the studied linguistic researches in the field of language theory the concepts “language picture of the world”, “concept” and “emotional concept” are revealed. The article is the continuation of the research of the concept “tenderness” representation in Russian and Spanish linguocultures. The analysis of the data of etymological, explanatory dictionaries, dictionaries of synonyms and antonyms has allowed to allocate semantic volume of a concept (nuclear area). To determine the content of the near-core area of the concept “tenderness” its explication in the space of the text is analyzed. The reflection of the concept in literary, fiction, journalistic, scientific, everyday texts by means of methods of the contextual analysis which purpose was to reveal new semantic features of the concept, given by the text and situation (context) is investigated. During the contextual analysis the data of the documents with the occurrence of the units “tenderness” and “tender” in the national corpus of the Russian language (1617 documents) and “ternura” in the national corpus of the Spanish language (1484 documents) were studied. Based on the study of the functioning and combinability of the unit “tenderness” in the Russian and Spanish texts, the main characteristics and components of values of the peri-nuclear area of the concept were identified. The analysis of the unit combinability made it possible to schematically display and compare its action orientation. According to the results of the contextual analysis the groups of cognitive features of the concept “tenderness” in Russian and Spanish were distinguished and compared with each other in percentage ratio. On the basis of comparison of the contents of the peri-nuclear area of the concept “tenderness” the most frequent components of meanings characterizing “tenderness” as a feeling and character of relations between people (between lovers, people, experiencing affection to each other) were revealed.

Abstract:
This article is dedicated to the research of synonymous groups for the designation of doubt “Hesitate, Waver, Vacillate, Falter” and “Hesitation, Hesitancy” in contemporary English-language fictional discourse. Doubt is defined as an epistemic state in the cognitive world of individuals which provides motivation to undertake a further quest for information. The purpose of this work is to investigate how the set of semes identified in each component of the synonymous group is presented in the context of modern English fictional discourse. This research is directed towards verifying whether the use of all the components of the given synonymous groups is of equal importance in modern language discourse, as well as checking whether all the semes of “Hesitate, Waver, Vacillate, Falter” and “Hesitation, Hesitancy” are used correctly, based on the results of the componential analysis. The results of the research make it possible to form conclusions regarding the homogeneity or heterogeneity of contextual sematic representations in discourse, dependent upon the number of constituents which make up the synonymous group. References Arthur, T. Abstract:
The paper considers relations between two fundamental linguistic categories, which are interrogativity and text coherence. In particular, the problem of representation of the coherence category in interrogative utterances is being analyzed. The aim of the article is to study the means of coherence used in interrogative utterances in Waterland by G. Swift. This novel was chosen to provide material for investigation as it is characterized by explicit interrogation which serves to facilitate cohesion. Based on the text of the novel, we created a database including 932 interrogative utterances. To research the material, the methods of component, contextual, syntactical, stylistic analysis were employed. According to the author’s hypothesis, a variety of lexical, grammatical and phonetic means provide coherence of interrogative utterances at microlevel of a literary text. Among the lexical means of coherence presented in the novel under investigation, we found full and partial lexical repetition, repetition of synonyms and antonyms, repetition of interrogative pronouns and adverbs. Among grammatical means of coherence, there are presented full and partial repetition of an interrogative utterance, anaphora, syntactical parallelism, chiasmus, parenthesis, participle clauses and tense agreement of verbs. Among phonetic means of coherence, there were found alliteration, assonance and rhythm. The discovered means of coherence serve to form not only a syntactical but also a semantical unity of a literary text.

Abstract:
The paper is to study the linguistic potential of a poetic text by the example of S.A. Yesenin’s poem “The Black Man.” The poetic text is considered as a multidimensional structure, the main feature of which is its unity, namely the interaction of all its components (sound and syntactic organization of the text, variability and versatility of the use of lexical meanings). The authors look at the poetic text as a complex interdependent structure, which characterizes the relationship between the phonological, syntactic and lexical organizations of the text. Each level of language or their close interaction can be dominant in the formation of the main idea of the work. The sound side directly affects the form and content, giving the work of S.A. Yesenin the necessary meaning and tonality. Phonetic stylistic techniques create a certain mood: assonance and alliteration. In order to evoke painful and gloomy feelings in the reader, epithets with negative stylistic coloring, metaphors, contextual antonyms, personifications and comparisons are used at the lexical level. As for the syntactic means of expression, the main techniques in this case are refrains, inversion, silence, exclamation and rhetorical question. Thus, the proposed format of the analysis of the poetic text allows you to more clearly reveal the drama of the main idea and feel a special gloomy atmosphere that affects the emotional and psychological perception of the poem by the reader.

Abstract:
The analysis of the texts of different genres, published on the personal page of the user of the social network Vkontakte, with 48 posts and extended dialogues considered, allowed identifying and describing the linguodiscursive signs of ambivalence and demonstrability as the dominant manifestations of the language personality of the suicidal person. These signs were determined at the level of intentional organization of discourse and specificity of the composition and configuration of figurative-expressive means. The comprehensive analysis methodology involved compiling a fragmentary speech portrait of language personality and linguodiscursive, including intensional, stylistic, and contextual analyses. Intentional analysis revealed a complex set of contradictory emotions and feelings, assessments and attitudes. The linguistic personality under study can be characterized by a developed imagination, non-standard and paradoxical semantic articulations and comparisons, combined with uncommon linguistic and creative abilities. Figurative means (metaphor and comparison, hyperbole, rhyme, and rhythmization in the prose text, oxymoron, playing around with antonyms and polysemes) most fully reflect the inner world of the person: an emotional state of confusion, upheaval, desolation, total despair, rejection of oneself, others, and the world, feeling of tragedy, and meaninglessness of existence. The linguodiscursive level reveals the juxtaposition of cognitive and communicative contradictory intentions, vocabulary and idiomatics of social degradation, the abundance of semantic and stylistic contrasts, aphoristic and puns writing style, language experiments, and games.

Abstract:
The article considers phraseological units and antonymic translation as one of the most effective methods of transmission of lexical units. Antonymic translation is shown to be an independent type of translation. Antonymic translation is defined as a translation mode whereby an affirmative (positive) element in the ST is translated by a negative element in the TT and, vice versa, a negative element in the ST is translated using an affirmative element in the TT, without changing the meaning of the original sentence. It is not a word-for-word translation, but a transformation when the translator selects an antonym and combines it with a negation element. Antonymic translation as such can be understood in broader and narrower terms, i.e. it may cover instances of a simple substitution of an element in the ST by its antonymic counterpart (negative or positive) in translation; positive / negative recasting, a translation procedure where the translator modifies the order of the units in the ST in order to conform to the syntactic or idiomatic constraints of the TT; and narrowing of the scope of negation whereby the original negative sentence is turned into an affirmative one in translation by moving the negation element to a word phrase or an elliptical sentence. The term antonymic translation covers all these three types. Generally, antonymic translation consists not only in the transformation of negative constructions to affirmative or vice versa: an original phraseological unit can be substituted for other expressions with the opposite meaning in a target language or an occasional antonym. The usage of antonymic translation as one of the methods of contextual replacement has been investigated. The main types of this lexical and grammatical transformation are systematized. The attention is focused on the reasons for using antonymic translation.

Abstract:
Annotation: In the poetic lines of Marina Tsvetaeva there is a rich palette of coloronims. We find their redefinition, contextual buildups of meaning and the expansion of synonymic rows. In the article (due to the limited nature of its capacity), only three basic coloronims are broached - red, white, black. In the lyric poetry of Marina Tsvetaeva, these colors have a deeper meaning: they are like opposing nature elements. White is not just a color, it’s also a symbol of purity and holiness (the white conscience, the white nun), as well as symbol of social belonging. Contrasts between black and white are as common in Tsvetaeva’s lyrics as her author’s antonyms — white and red. Keywords: color, coloronim, base color red, white, black, contextual buildups of meaning

Abstract:
Graffiti is a cross-cultural phenomenon that transcends geographical and chronological boundaries, becoming extremely popular with artists, archaeologists, cultural anthropologists and even linguists due to the variety of forms it takes and limitless freedom of expression it offers. Despite the contradictory nature and mixed views on its value, the anonymous form and wide availability to the public make graffiti an effective communication tool and an exceptionally interesting research object. Artists often employ antithesis (stylistic opposition) that helps them gain a new, broader and at times paradoxical perspective on pressing social, political and environmental issues by finding the points of stark contrast. This study has been carried out to identify the stylistic peculiarities of modern English graffiti, focusing on the analysis of antithesis. The findings indicate that, in order to convey opposing ideas, artists tend to choose contextual antonyms over objectively contrasting pairs of root ones which can be explained by their novelty and extraordinary polarity. The study suggests that all the analysed cases of antithesis can be grouped into explicit (the juxtaposition of the ideas is expressed in the written part while the graphical one heightens the effect) and implicit (the written part opposes the graphical one and a complete understanding of the message encoded in the graffiti is impossible without careful examination of both of them). The research also offers insights into expressive means and stylistic devices that enhance the aesthetic effect of antithesis such as rhyme, alliteration, parallelism and framing.

Abstract:
The article examines the phenomenon of the comic in the works of F.M. Dostoevsky in a particular aspect of its instrumental support – as a phenomenon based on various methods and angles of contextual actualization of the general linguistic category of semantic opposition (lexical antonymy). In the writer's work, the comic acts as the antithesis of the tragic and in the plot-narrative interaction with it. The special constructive role of antonymy in the organization of the semantic space of the writer's works is noted. It is shown that within the framework of the task of forming a text of an innovative type, the writer gives preference to contextual antonymy and phenomena of syntactic irregularity when creating a comic type. The thesis of the comic as a complex multifunctional pragmatic sign is substantiated. The productive role of linguistic connotations in comic contexts built on the category of semantic opposition is revealed. As a special method of structuring the comic, the possibility of antonymic substitution as part of a usual idiomatic syntactic group is demonstrated. As a separate structural variant of the comic, the technique of antonymization of actual linguistic semantics and presuppositions is singled out. In conclusion, the author concludes that it is legitimate and justified to single out and scientifically discursively actualize this particular aspect of the functioning of antonymy in the works of F.M. Dostoevsky as a research task within the framework of the fundamental traditional problem of "the language and style of the writer".

Abstract:
The article describes the linguistic and stylistic means used to create verbal images of saints in church hymnography. Original canons and akathists written by English native speakers are used for the research. These texts are chosen because they are considered to be a specific medium where elements of the scope of religious (Orthodox) concepts are represented. Hymnographic texts are written according to specific genre modals which imply the usage of a significant number of linguistic and stylistic means. Not only do these means determine the outer form of such texts, but they also relate to the transferred message. The meanings conveyed in hymnographic texts are closely connected with religious experience. The cognitive approach to linguistic and stylistic means of church text makes it possible to describe the metaphorical patterns of the mental processing of religious experience. It is concluded in the article that the most frequent linguistic and stylistic means in the researched hymnography are metaphors based on epithets and antitheses. The results of the analysis demonstrate that the following source domains are used to create conceptual metaphors: water and water current, nature phenomena, light phenomena, warfare, construction (as a particular type of building). The images of saints are also represented with the help of image schema “container” which is connected with how the outcome of pious lifestyle is mentally represented. The antithesis underlines contrast between religious and lay lifestyles. The contextual antonyms, as elements of the antithesis, function as meaning points of the situations described in hymnographic texts and thus they also transfer some information about religious experience.

Abstract:
Nowadays' realities dictate new manifestations of the use of components of the concept verbalization. The publicistic texts serve effectively for the objective reflection, as newspaper articles optimally record all shades of changes in social and, as a result, language processes. Taking into account the characteristics, we understand the concept as a unit of a generalized linguistic and mental resource with ethno-national or culturally determined human ideas about reality. The article analyzes the peculiarities of the verbalization means use of the concept ALTRUISM based on frequency and semantic characteristics in the modern German publicistic texts. The research material was texts of the newspaper "Die Welt" with a total sample of 30,000 word usages, within 518 examples of components, which belong to different parts of speech of the concept verbalization ALTRUISM were identified. The method of contextual analуsis of newspaper texts was used with regard to the integration social mechanisms of modern Germany. The frequency indicators of the verbalization components are interpreted within the studied sample on the basis of comparative analysis. The verbalization means analysis of the concept ALTRUISM on the material of the studied continuous sample proves the dominance of adjectives with the meaning "altruistic". It confirms the characteristics of altruistic motives, actions and goals as a manifestation of collective consciousness in German society. Mechanisms of understanding and designation of ALTRUISM in the conditions of integration processes are related to the corresponding emotional and psychological states of new society members with a migratory experience, which in linguistic expression are revealed by the use of antonyms with the meaning "selfish" to evaluate "altruistic behavior". Veiled manifestations of egoism, contextually marked by means of verbalization of the concept ALTRUISM have become a feature of the linguistic expression of social processes in modern Germany. In the future, we plan to make a comparative analysis of verbalization means of the concepts EGOISM and ALTRUISM on the material of the same sample of publicistic texts using statistical methods to establish the optimal objective characteristics of the interaction of the verbalization components, which belong to the different parts of speech.

Abstract:
The digitalization of the world, the conflict and variability of context in social networks turns people to search for the meanings and meanings of “conflict” in authoritative dictionaries that have their own categorical context, a reflection of the universal and the specific in a changing world. The study is updated by the need to resolve the conflict, which, without understanding the essence and context of conflicts, is the most complex theoretical and practical issue in professional negotiations. The purpose of the article is to understand the categorical context of the etymology of conflict in dictionaries. Research methodology. The article demonstrates the results of a holistic etymological study that goes through the stages of: searching for significant attributions as the meaningful meaning of the “conflict”; the subject field of “conflict” and the categorical range of similar and opposite meanings; searching for the opposite phenomenon; categorical context of the meaning of the conflict. The article discusses the “root”, “created” and “derived” meaning of the conflict. In “conflict” the following semantic essential attributions are defined: forceful, coercive, opposing, controversial, victimized and/or resource-loss aspects. The study of synonyms “dissentio”, “dissideo”, “discordo” and antonyms “consentio”, “concordo”, “consido”, “conveni” allows us to consider linear and non-linear interaction in the process of conflict formation and resolution. The opposite of “conflict” is “concordo”, as a reflection of coordination and removal of the contrast of sharp isolation. Basic to the conflict are the contexts of subjectification of an objective contradiction; ex- istential confrontation; crisis-government context; differentiation of “other” as an extroverted- introverted subjective conflict; social-environmental contradictions in the field of personality development The use of contextual meanings of dictionaries in content analysis allows us to determine the profile of changing conflict contexts.

Abstract:
The article presents a comprehensive analysis of toponymic vocabulary associated with the Kostroma region, in the memoir essay of the philosopher and writer Alexander Alexandrovich Zinoviev «In Godforsaken Place», included by the author in the book «Confessions of a Renegade». The purpose of the study is to identify the semantic and communicative-pragmatic properties of dominant toponyms which are actively involved in organizing memoir narration, forming text meanings, explicating the conceptual content of the work, creating the author's modality. The study of toponyms in contextual environment is based on the genre and stylistic features of the memoir text: the combination of two temporal plans (past and present); the combination of objective reliability and individual subjectivity. The author of the article gives a brief overview of modern linguistic studies of toponymy in the Russian speech system and presents a classification of toponyms which are subdivided in the analyzed text into placenames and hydronyms. The article characterizes toponymic dominants of the memories: the name of Kostroma city and the name of the writer’s native village Pakhtino. The author of the article presents a coherent study of the key toponyms in some parts of the memoir text. The title of the section «From Pakhtino to New York» uses contextual antonyms that first create an antithesis, and are used as a part of a gradation series, but then, in the process of developing textual semantics, form an enantiosemy, uniting opposite objects of reality: a Russian provincial village and a large American city. With the help of several stylistic devices (antitheses, gradations, enantiosemy), the writer expands the boundaries of the narrative, depicts the universal scale of events, reflects ideas about indigenous Russian spiritual values and life priorities of the Western world. The toponym Kostroma is used in an ironic context: the memoirist quotes his poetic work, where he mentions his hometown which is not particularly different from other cities, since everyday bustle reigns in them all. Further, in the section «Russian Hinterland», Kostroma is named among other Russian cities, becoming a symbol of a more prosperous life and participates in creating the city-village opposition. The key hydronyms of the memories are the names of the Viga and Volga rivers. Their semantic interaction with the names of provincial settlements is actualized in the context. The evaluative vocabulary becomes the means of creating the writer's modality with positive textual connotations prevailing. In conclusion, the author of the article emphasizes the role of Kostroma toponyms in forming the chronotopic characteristics of the text and the communicative organization of the memoir discourse.
