Consistent evaluation is an important prerequisite for quality assurance and continuous further development in the area of DaF/DaZ. With a focus on virtual learning, this volume deals with the evaluation of the Inverted Classroom Model for the training of teachers of German as a foreign language and specifically with language learning apps. A second focus is on the evaluation of exams and tests. In addition to the medical language examination and the qualification tests of future teachers, the focus here is on examiner qualifications. The critical discussion will present suggestions for solutions as well as new research approaches. This volume does justice to the claim that theory and practice are closely intertwined. Christina Maria Ersch studied German and Scandinavian Studies in Göttingen and German as a foreign language in Mainz, where she is a research assistant. She has been teaching German as a foreign language for several years, is a certified telc examiner and conducts advanced training courses in neurodidactics and action-oriented learning. Her research interests are, among other things, in general didactics with a focus on competence-oriented, digital learning and in intercultural communication.

Abstract:
Psychodrama is a method of research and intervention in interpersonal relationships. Objective: The aim of the present study is to investigate and train group relationships in a multidisciplinary healthcare team. Material & Methods: Participants: The study population included employees who work in a Basic Family Health (UBSF), which was randomly selected. This facility was located in a medium-sized city within the state of São Paulo. We used the following tools: Form of Profile Survey and Interview Guide associated to Socio-demographic Data, Relational Functioning, and the team’s Sociometric choices. The researchers designed other Instruments of Protocol. Procedure: The participants responded to the study instruments and subsequently they underwent the Role Playing Program. They were re-evaluated at the end of the Development and Training Roles Program and reassessed at the end of the program. Patients show good clinical evaluation free of complications in a 60-day follow-up. Conclusions: The results show changes and improvements in the personal lives of those involved in their performance at work, and in the creation of coping strategies due to the professional role. Our results also indicate the importance of continuous and permanent training to maintain the properly functioning of the team. The participants also need a greater time to achieve internal and subjective changes identified with the intervention. We achieved the proposed objectives, which were as follows: effectiveness of the sociopsychodramatic methodology in groups regarding training and role play and changes in interdisciplinary relationships. However, more research on a case by case basis is recommended in order to generalize the results.

Kurtzberg, Terri R., and Jennifer L. Gibbs. Distracted. ABC-CLIO, LLC, 2017. http://dx.doi.org/10.5040/9798400641510.

Full text
Abstract:
What are the benefits and negative consequences of our increased connectivity at school, at work, and at home? Is being constantly distracted now a worldwide problem? This book examines how new technologies and social pressures have changed the way we use our attention, and the extent to which they drive us to distraction, by interpreting hundreds of scientific studies from the literatures in cognitive and social psychology, sociology, communication, management, and decision making. While distraction is ever-present in daily life, staying connected in an efficient way is the goal for one and all. To accomplish that, some amount of fine-tuning of typical interactions with technology is in order. Nearly everyone recognizes the addictive nature of constant connectivity—and its destructive effect on productivity and quality of work. But the availability of technology also promotes better engagement, control, and flexibility in both professional and personal settings. An in-depth analysis of these tradeoffs can lead to smarter choices about when and how to be connected throughout the day and across settings. The ultimate objective is to have technology enhance our lives without serving as a source of constant distraction. Distracted: Staying Connected without Losing Focus explains the nuances of what this addiction stems from—considering both societal and technological factors—and identifies both the invaluable opportunities and the counterproductive consequences of living in our technology-enabled, instant-access-to-everything world. The chapters examine a wide swath of scientific research to expose how technology use affects our attention and the extent to which it causes distraction. Authors Terri Kurtzberg and Jennifer Gibbs apply the science of human attention to reveal how specific areas of our lives are significantly changed with the advent of “continuous connectedness,” including in the workplace, in personal relationships, in childhood development, and with regard to education and learning. Readers will clearly understand why multitasking fails us, what the consequences are—to ourselves and those around us—of being focused on a screen for much of the day, and how each of us can adjust our use of technology in order to improve our lives.

Abstract:
Proceedings of the Sixth International Conference on the History of Mathematics Education. September 16-20, 2019, at the CIRM (Luminy), France The history of mathematics education is an interdisciplinary research area that is experiencing a significant development and this book presents recent work in this area. This book is the result of the sixth conference ICHME (International Conference on the History of Mathematics Education) that took place at CIRM, Luminy (France) from 16th to 20th of September 2019. Nowadays, the history of education is of the utmost importance for assessing the general development of the educational system(s) in which mathematics education occurs. Usually, the history of education is confined to history within a given civilization, country or nation. However, the quality of the research for a given nation is enhanced when situated among various specific cases, and comparative studies provide essential tools to broaden the perspectives to an international level. Moreover, mathematics, as a school discipline, has always functioned at the crossroads between general education and professional training, thus relating its teaching history to professional working environments as well. The themes dealt with in this book reflect this wide area of research. The book contains 28 chapters grouped in four parts concerning teaching of particular mathematical domains, teaching in cultural and national contexts, pedagogical movements and reforms, and methods of teaching.

Abstract:
Chapter 4 focuses on the personal and professional background of many do-it-yourselfers who employ sophisticated knowledge of professional planning and scholarly urbanism in their interventions. In doing so, it begins to challenge binary notions of formality and informality in urbanism. The chapter includes discussion of the history of informality in cities and the development of professionalized urban planning and placemaking practices. It then discusses how many do-it-yourself urban designers have professional design training that they to use in their projects. Where others lack such a background, they often seek information from official sources in order to strengthen and legitimate their interventions, from tools, techniques, and guidelines to justifications grounded in social science research. Although this may lead to better-designed and more effective improvements, it also gives the individuals a certain confidence in the quality of their actions and their right to make them.

Abstract:
The modernisation of contemporary Russian higher pedagogical education places special demands on training of a competent specialist having outspoken professional position, well-formed readiness to adapt to the labour market, capable of self-development and educating learners in the conditions of rapidly changing reality. The formation of such personality is possible in the educational space of a university, being characterised by the unity of learners’ classroom and extracurricular activities, coordinated interaction of all participants of pedagogical process aimed at solving the common goal and specific tasks focused on high-quality training of future specialists. The formation of student’s personality as a future teacher has a number of stages coordinated with the process of learning at the university, in particular, with formation of certain knowledge base within the framework of academic discipline studies, acquisition of professional experience in the process of pedagogical training, study of perspective practices and experience of pedagogical activity. The proper attitude to accumulation, generalisation and popularisation of advanced pedagogical experience contributes to formation and development of professional mastery of both students of pedagogical profile and young teachers. The advanced pedagogical experience of winners and laureates of the national pedagogical mastership contests in the Russian Federation and CIS countries requires special research. An attempt of large-scale research of this unique practical experience and its implantation into the training process at pedagogical universities was undertaken by the Russian State Pedagogical University. The research results were tested at the All-Russian applied research conference with international participation “International Best Practices in Pedagogical Activity: Experience, Risks, Prospects”. The conference was presented with 102 papers by representatives of educational organisations from Russia and foreign countries, including Latvia, Kazakhstan, Belarus and Uzbekistan. The aim of the conference was to discuss efficient practices of transformation of modern education aimed at updating its content by strengthening practical orientation and integration of higher and general education, exchange of experience among educators actively using modern educational technologies. The conference was held along the following directions: – Practical application of results of efficient pedagogical solutions and advantages of promising practices of pedagogical excellence aimed to improve the quality of education. – The system of young educators support: ideas and practices. – Digital learning environment: pedagogue’s new tools. – The teacher’s personality in innovative educational space. – Trends in pedagogical education development. – Learner’s individual trajectory as a resource for future teacher formation. – Best teaching practices: international and national experience. The conference participants discussed the pressing issues of organising the teaching process in general-education organisations and vocational guidance in higher education. The participants noted that such pedagogical transfer in modern conditions is one of the important and productive directions of searching for the ways to improve pedagogical mastery.

Abstract:
Anaesthesia education is uniquely placed to allow safe and supervised workplace teaching and training delivered in a personalized, contextual one-to-one basis. Trainers and trainees need to manage their expectations in training, enabling flexible and opportunistic capturing of these learning episodes, as well as structured learning. Structured planning of individualized training is imperative to facilitate learning in trainees with different learning styles. Role modelling of trainers in the workplace is an essential component of both clinical and professional teaching. Critical reflection and high-quality trainee feedback enhances this experiential learning. A robust framework of education governance is fundamental in maintaining a high standard of training; this includes trainer accreditation, recognizing the importance of trainer development, and an appropriate infrastructure to support training and education in the clinical workplace.

Abstract:
Cultivating Dynamic Educators: Case Studies in Teacher Behavior Change in Africa and Asia responds to growing recognition by international education professionals, policy makers, and funding partners of the need for qualified teachers and interest in the subject of teacher professional development (also referred to as “teacher behavior change”). The book responds to important questions that are fundamental to improving teaching quality by influencing teaching practice. These questions include: How do we provide high-quality training at scale? How do we ensure that training transfers to change in practice? What methods are most cost-effective? How do we know what works? The book includes case studies describing different approaches to teacher behavior change and illustrates how specific implementation choices were made for each context. Individual chapters document lessons learned as well as methodologies used for discerning lessons. The key conclusion is that no single effort is enough on its own; teacher behavior change requires a system-wide view and concerted, coordinated inputs from a range of stakeholders.

Abstract:
The policy paper has been prepared on the basis of a short-term research. It is focused on the analysis and advocacy of increasing the understanding of the status of women in wartime and post-war reconstruction in Ukraine. With the aim of facilitating European integration negotiations, it provides recommendations in the field of education, learning and economy in Ukraine. Public authorities and civil society organizations (CSOs) should move to act jointly in defending Ukrainian interests before the EU and in developing, if possible, a common negotiating position. Certain geopolitical challenges are presented and attention is paid to the consequences of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The forms of involvement of representatives of Ukraine’s civil society in the negotiation infrastructure with the EU are considered. A brief analysis of Ukraine's 2020-2024 implementation of the final documents of the Fourth UN World Conference on the Status of Women - the Beijing Declaration and Platform (Beijing+30), focused on two areas (a)women in education and training and, (b) women in the economy during this period in Ukraine is also provided. The research at hand employs two main methods, (a) asynchronous and synchronous online national consultations (conducted by the authors) and two regional consultations with CSOs of Europe and Central Asia, organized by international structures in May - August 2024; and (b) the collection and analysis of secondary information. The issue of analysis has been included in the EU-Ukraine accession Negotiating Framework on cluster "Competences and inclusive growth". Notably, it is important to promote an inclusive approach, taking into account the interests of various strata and groups of society and giving a voice to civic experts. This policy paper examines in the context of the general system of lifelong learning. Namely, the segment of adult learning and education (ALE) i.e., its policies, governance, quality of programs and teaching, inclusion and financing and, the issue of women's access to adult learning and education, assessment of participation in aspects of retraining and upskilling that are important for adapting to changes in the labor market and economic conditions. The quality of learning & education and the impact of social and economic development on the socio-economic status of women in the country are also considered. The subject of the analysis of the economic block is the analysis of gender gaps in wages, opportunities for starting a business and the level of employment of women, and their participation in the labor market. The results of the research and recommendations for public authorities and CSOs in Ukraine will be interesting for Ukrainian and foreign civil society organizations dealing with this topic, policy makers and experts at the national and European levels on issues of gender equality focused on women's rights, European integration, women's economic empowerment, education and learning. Furthermore, the academic community, analysts from the public, academic, educational environment working in the specified directions and others. This publication was produced within the project “Supporting the activities of the Ukrainian National Platform of the EaP CSF in 2024” implemented by the Institute for Economic Research and Policy Consulting with the financial support of the European Union. Its contents are the sole responsibility of the League of Professional Women and do not necessarily reflect the views of the European Union or the Institute for Economic Research and Policy Consulting.

The rapid pace of change in the healthcare industry is creating turbulence for just about everyone. For consumers, affordable access to quality healthcare is an issue of primary importance. For employers, health benefits have grown to be an alarmingly large component of their compensation packages. For physicians and other healthcare providers, practice management has become increasingly demanding. Each of this set's three volumes untangles the complexity, provides answers to knotty questions, and points the way toward better healthcare for all. Features include commentary, prescriptions, and insights from leaders in the healthcare industry, including physicians, attorneys, administrators, educators, and business consultants. The result: a landmark set filled with provocative analysis and practical recommendations destined to improve the delivery of healthcare. Complexity is the rule, thanks to government regulations and insurer requirements, the expansion of technology in everything from diagnosis to records, and the desire of policymakers and others to have a say in how healthcare is delivered and to whom. The Business of Healthcareprovides Rx to these and other challenges in three volumes:Volume 1: Practice Management Volume 2: Leading Healthcare Organizations Volume 3: Improving Systems of Care. Each volume features commentary and insights from leaders in the healthcare industry, including physicians, attorneys, administrators, educators, and business consultants. The result: a landmark set filled with provocative analysis and practical recommendations destined to improve the delivery of healthcare. The Business of Healthcarepresents ideas and information that until now have been sequestered in a variety of professional journals and books, in isolation from each other. For the first time, healthcare professionals, consumers, scholars, students, and policymakers alike will have access to the same body of information about a critical sector of the economy-one that represents 15 percent of the U.S. national GDP, consumes 10 percent of federal government spending, and employs twelve million people. This three-volume set will address the current debates that are determining the future course of the industry.Volume 1: Practice Management: Physicians are beginning to realize that, in addition to providing health care, they are owners and managers of multi-million dollar enterprises. Unfortunately, most have not received formal training in the skills needed to operate such a business. In this volume, experts will present practical advice for physicians (as well as their practice managers and staff) to improve operations. Topics include: *The opportunities and challenges of solo practice. *The logistics of joining and leaving a physician practice. *Performance management in physician practices. *Creating a culture of accountability in physician practices. *Managing difficult and disruptive physicians. *Developing and promoting a physician practice. *Internet marketing of physician practices. *The potential benefits and implementation roadblocks of pay for performance. *Accounts receivable management in hospital and physician practices. *The future of the physician practice.Volume 2: Leading Healthcare Organizations: Whether running their own practice or working as a part of a larger organization, health professionals are being called upon to provide leadership—something more important than ever in health care, where some sectors of the industry are in turmoil, while others are being transformed entirely. This volume will offer insights into the changing role of leadership throughout an organization, and describe how health professionals can exert their influence to effect positive change. Topics covered include: *Perspectives on leading complex healthcare delivery systems. *Mending the gap between practicing physicians and hospital executives. *The physician's role on the hospital board, and a blueprint for success. *The impact of biotechnology advances on healthcare delivery. *The impact of informatics on healthcare delivery. *The next frontier in addressing clinical hospital supply costs. *Liability risk management: Saving money and relationships. *Pastoral medicine: The impact of pastoral care. *The role of complementary and alternative medicine in healthcare today.Volume 3: Improving Systems of Care: This volume explores the current state of health care, and it describes the critical issues that must be resolved in the short run and the long run to ensure that the industry provides the value that the public both demands and deserves. Topics include: *Quality in healthcare: concepts and practice. *Adapting proven aviation safety tools to healthcare: Improving healthcare by changing the safety culture. *Introduction to healthcare information technology. *Market dynamics and financing strategies in the development of medical technologies. *An innovative service delivery model for specialized care. *The impact of healthcare on the US economy. *Improving systems of care: a patient's perspective. *The cost of end-of-life care. *Building the bridge between business and medicine. Better, more efficient healthcare is not just possible but needed more than ever. The Business of Health Carewill help lead the way toward a healthier, happier society.
