This work is in the Portuguese area and consists in submitting a proposal for teaching of tale of humor based on didactical sequence. In it, our biggest objective is to contribute to the improvement of educational practices at developing the competence of students reading the 8th and 9th grades. Contemporary research has emphasized the role of genres of discourse for the teaching and learning of languages, seeking to establish the relationship between text, context, discourse and society. Accordingly, we took into account the studies of Bakhtin (2003), which reflects on the activities of language and social practices; of Schneuwly and Dolz (2004), dealing with the teaching of genres by means of teaching sequences, and Coelho (1987) and Almeida (1999), showing the peculiarities of the tale of humor. In the presentation of the didactic sequence, we develop modules for teaching and learning activities that provide a reading of a tale of humor, with emphasis on the construction of meaning through the interaction between author, text and reader

Full textThe aim of this study is to analyse Dorothy Parker´s short stories in dialogue with her poems in order to show the modernity of her writings and the function played by humour. Analysing the works of the great american writer in the thirties, we see how humour is used as a tool in the construction of the feminine and the social role of women, with the purpose of destabilizing and making a change in the status quo. The theoretical framework based on Vladimir Propp and Henri Bergson helps to demonstrate that in spite of Dorothy Parker´s work being considered dated by some, the satiric sense that emerges from her writings is still present in our times and reveals the context in which those women were inserted.

This dissertation is about humor mechanisms generation present in the short story “No Kaddish for Weinstein” (ALLEN, 1975). It is possible to identify in the narrative the frequent presence of ethnic humor, more specifically the Jewish-American humor. However, it is believed that this is not the only type of humor the author uses, considering also that humor can emerge from many different mechanisms and situations. For this reason, there is the necessity of not only identifying the characteristic humor of Woody Allen, but also the necessity of analyzing the narrative type built by the author in his short stories. Besides all that, it is necessary to verify the relevance of cultural background in humor generation, as well as in identity relations within characters and narrators. The research questions derive from the presupposition that the humor created by Allen is singular, they are: (a) what are the domains, strata and parameters that typify Allen’s narrative?, (b) what are the humor mechanisms that the author uses in his short stories?, (c) what linguistic, cultural, identity and cognitive elements are essential in the Allenian humor? Other questions rise from these interrogations: why humor and Judaism are connected? What is the relation between them? The general objective of this research is to examine the humor present in Allen’s short stories and its relation with sociocognitive and identity elements of Jewish culture. The specific objectives are (a) to analyze the narrative structure in Allen’s short stories, (b) to identify the characteristics of the type of humor in Allen’s “No Kaddish for Weinstein”, (c) analyze what linguistic elements make humor rise in Allen’s referred short story, (d) make relations between linguistic and sociocultural elements in Allen’s short story and (e) make relations between the elements that constitute allenian humor. Among the many short stories pre-analyzed from different collection books produced by Woody Allen, “No Kaddish for Weinstein” was chosen for being a narrative that encompasses the characteristics that are present, in higher or lower degree, in all his short stories as a whole. Although the narrative themes vary, the short story “No Kaddish for Weinstein" can be considered prototypical. By prototypical it is understood the property of encompassing, in a condensed manner, the general requisites of the narrative style of the author. The results demonstrate that the author makes use of a great variety of humor mechanisms, among them: rupture of the reader’s expectation, punch lines e opposite scripts. In relation to the identity issues of Jewish-American culture, the references to selfhatred and habits are more relevant. It is evident, the construction of a narrative that demands from the reader the evocation of encyclopedic knowledge (frames). Without the recognition of these frames it is not possible to recognize the potential humor of the short story. All the results are related with the narratologic structure type of the short story, according to the framework of the Cognitive Approach to the Analysis of Narrative by Talmy (2000). This is mainly because it permits designing a reader’s profile that shares the knowledges concerning the Jewish-american and New Yorker culture, moreover references about history.

Abstract: We have seen from the last two decades of the 20th century, the rereading of the fairy tale genre both in literature aimed at children in cinema in general, and in the animated film in particular. I realize that the parodic procedure is present in the rereading process, being contemplated, in that gesture, some aspects of traditional fairy tales and lefting intacts other elements. It is from the question of how these narratives work to rereading of fairy tales that I begin the investigation that motivates this research project: how the narrative Shrek!, by William Steig, and its film adaptations, by Dreamworks Animation studios, proceed the genre rereading. The research will include, first, the study of the fairy tale genre, its structure and semantic aspects, from reading the narrative of Steig, to, then, investigate the textual dialogue between the work and the genre it belongs. Later, the story made into a film will be the subject of research to investigate how the fairy tale genre is rereaded by the cinema support from the ingredients provided by the narrative of Steig. I will take into account the stylistic aspects of speech, both the original English. With reference to the film adaptation, we will proceed the same way, but limited in scenes that will focus on as most important for analysis. I assume that the film version of the tale expands the rereading procedure, establishing a broader dialogue with the genre itself. I will concentrate on the nature of the Shrek character, built like an ogre, to check, among other things, the process of "grotescalização" by wich Steig conducts his text. I will investigate how the grotesque contributes to the rereading of the genre both in written narrative and in its film adaptation. I am, thereby, to contribute to studies of fairy tale genre and for literature studies aimed at children and young people

Full textThe reception of Monteiro Lobato’s adult work falls far short of the public acclaim of his children’s books. A multifaceted man due to his strong personality, his struggle with the literary world and his high expectations, Lobato (1882-1948) was, above all, an author who took action in the context of his time. He raised unrest through his writings, particularly with the adult ones, characterized by a simple and direct style in dealing with controversial themes. Generally speaking, only in recent times has academic research given rise to a new appreciation of his adult literary work. Attempts have been made to correct misconceptions, which are the product of obliterations and generalizing analyses. Despite his multifarious work, a number of commentators point out a feature which is presumably common to the whole of his writings: his inclination towards humour. The aim of the present master thesis is to investigate Lobato’s humour through the analysis of the thirty-five short stories of Cidades Mortas, a collection published in 1919. On the basis of the fifteen aspects of the comical proposed by Vladimir Propp (1895-1970) we seek to demonstrate that humour is a recurrent and striking feature of these stories, written between 1900 and 1919. In order to understand the comical in the Lobatian text and how it relates to his trajectory, we discuss the context of Brazilian Belle Époque, a time in which there were doubts as to whether humour could be harmful to a writer’s career and to his symbolic prestige, along with the fact that it could be interpreted as a sign of insufficient commitment to the nation-building process.

Full textOne must admit the existence of the wide world of manifestations that make us laugh. In several artistic expressions, there is an incessant search for the comic work both by those who produce it as well as by those who look for it. In this sense, the aim of this present dissertation is to raise questions about post modern literature humor in its various ways of manifestation and mainly in terms of the critical or passive humor in today's contexts. Thus, two theoretical chapters address humor and post-modernism. The third and last chapter comprehends the analysis of ten short stories written by Moacyr Scliar and is meant to observe and characterize post-modern Brazilian humor as a means of denunciation or reflection or merely as a way to have fun with no concern about social issues.

I studied the humour noir through a literary type, “the conte cruel”, descended from the chronic, the fable and the poem in prose. My authors wrote about many actual subjects of the society. They taught about politics, economy, social problems, every problems of the society with the intention to denounce all the injustices and the hypocrisies of the new political regime. They are journalists implied in the problems of their age. The style of the conte cruel approchoach the caricature and the controversy

Full textIn this thesis, we reflect on the standpoints printed on contemporary journal texts - strips and chronics that retake oral tradition narratives, between the seventeenth and nineteenth centuries, in order to understand aspects of different worldviews and the evaluative positioning of the subject-author and of the expected subject-contemplator as a way to give a committed answer to their time. Along the issues of the journals, the theming of these narratives was done at random, amid diverse contents and as part of the cultural repertoire of the artists. In the survey that was conducted, the corpus was composed as follows: (1) fifty-four strips by the cartoonist Fernando Gonsales, published in the newspaper Folha de S. Paulo between 2004 and 2011, that bring as the theme the fairy tales Little Red Riding Hood, Snow White and The story of the three little pigs; (2) three chronics by Millor Fernandes, that circulated in the weekly magazines Veja and IstoÉ in the 1980s, thematising the same tales, which enables a comparative work. To guide our vision, we base our analysis on Bakhtin\'s architectonic design, developed mainly in the first texts written by Bakhtin and the Circle in the 1920s. This concept allows us to understand how the text elements - form, content and materials - are organized by centers of values established in the relation between author-creator, hero, author-contemplator. Associated with this notion, we deal with the categories of space and time, developed by Bakhtin (1937-1938, 1973). These categories lead us to the understanding of the interaction between author-creator and/or author-contemplator and artistic object, in a particular spatial-temporal context. In dialogue with the research object, we start from the following hypothesis: if all text is a responsive act to the time that it emerges from, then the contemporary world view is refracted in humor texts from the journal sphere that circulated in the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries, when these texts resume narratives of the oral tradition spread between the seventeenth and nineteenth centuries. At the end of the work, it is shown that, in the crossing of the strips by Fernando Gonsalves and the chronics by Millor Fernandes with the fairy tales, the parody moves from an idealized world: in the strips, it also sets as a mockery of the contemporary way of life; in the chronics, as a social critique and reflection on human existence.

Full textBoris Vian's literary work calls to mind by the feelings it arouses. For a long time it nevertheless remained unknown concealed by its author's protean talents. Boris Vian, whose texts were mostly published posthumously, wasn't at the beginning seen as a writer to finally get in the Pléiade in 2010, 51 years after his death. To analyse his work it appears natural to consider the idea of fantasy. The fictional world he created remains a fantasist one where imagination and inventiveness prevail. Yet, opposing worlds get mixed up: fairy and cruelty, casualness and anxiety, indifference and seriousness, fantasy and reality. Considering only the fictional texts in prose (novels, short stories and plays) we questionned the legitimity of the fantasy notion. Does its obviousness withstand a further analysis? This questioning drove us to the idea of 'fantaisie noire'. Sometimes magical, incredible, linguistic, comical or parodic, the fantasy collides with the inwardness of the characters and with an anxiety that contaminates both beings and objects. The fantasy defers to an oppresive world where the dream reveals itself in all its power. The come back to fantasy is then only possible by comical detachments and a linguistic inventiveness that contributes to let the work opened
