Full textSome common points to addict people are analysed in this thesis. This includes drug addicts, but also food addicts, game addicts, theft addicts, etc : all those people who center all (or most of all) their psychical investments on only one axis during a period of their life. (hypercathexis of use). The first part is a quick history about drug's use. Then a shortstock of the psychanalytical works about addiction is taken (mainly french authors). The next part develops the concept of "disbinding's enjoyment" or "disconstruction's enjoyment". Then comes a clinical part centered on incarcerated drug addicts. At least a come back on theory allows to question the concept of : ego, superego, i, subject, sublimation; and to do some suggestions for a psychanalytical approach of the concerned people

Full textThe development of the Web these last years caused an increase in the number of Web services. The need for the automation of the Web services composition is among the main concerns of the Web. In our thesis, we defined an automatic Framework of composition based on a distributed architecture using a semantic services description with OWL-S and the concept of services community. We defined a set of mapping rules from the user request described in OWL-S towards a representation in statecharts in order to build the composition execution models. The execution is dynamic and is managed by a composition agent which checks the user’s constraints and manages the invocation of the eservices belonging to the various communities. We developed a prototype of composition which simulates the execution of the composition models generated automatically starting from the user request

Full textA key issue for Cloud Computing data-centers is to maximize their profits by minimizing power consumption and SLA violations of hosted applications. In this thesis, we propose an autonomic resource management framework combining a utilitybased dynamic Virtual Machine (VM) provisioning manager and a dynamic VM placement manager. Both problems are modelled as constraint satisfaction problems. The VM provisioning process aims at maximizing a global utility capturing both the performance of the hosted applications with regard to their SLA and the energy-related operational cost of the cloud computing infrastructure. We propose a component-based architecture with a separation between the decision and ressources layers. We show several experiments how our system can be controlled through high level handles to make different trade-off between application performance and energy consumption or to arbitrate resource allocations in case of contention

Full textThis work aims to explore the intrapreneurship in services ‟companies. It starts by a synthesis of literature on the intrapreneurship, the corporate entrepreneurship and the connected concepts. This needs to understand what is intrapreneurship and to deduct the possibilities and constraints about this strategic choice. Then, we propose one process for implement intrapreneurship in companies. In this party, we adopt a deductive methodology. After, it is completed by an interactionist approach which leads to the creation of an intrapreneurial model. We use the study of an in-depth practical case in an african company of services: Benin Telecoms SA. This puts us in direct relation with the employees to seize their perceptions of the intrapreneurship approach. This information is completed by an indirect observation, knowledge on the innovations of services and the management of the african companies. The theoretical and managerial contributions are made. All this led to the proposition of an intrapreneurial african model for the companies of services. This process integrates the african common values and leads to a management of the quality and indirectly to the improvement of the organizational performance of companies

Full textThe aims of this study were to establish the prevalence of psychotropic drug use and to measure the associations between a high level of job strain and an imbalanced extrinsic efforts-rewards ratio with the use of psychotropic drugs among Quebec’s correctional officers (CO’s). Another aim was to examine if interpersonal violence was associated with psychotropic drug use. Finally, we have tested if interpersonal violence at work was an intermediate factor in the causal pathway between psychosocial risk factors at work and psychotropic drug use. The prevalence of psychotropic drug use was 14.7 %. Job strain was not associated with psychotropic drug use among Quebec’s CO’s in our study. An imbalanced extrinsic efforts-rewards ratio was statistically associated with psychotropic drug use. When considering interpersonal violence at work, intimidation was not associated with psychotropic drug use, but psychological harassment was. Finally, interpersonal violence at work was not an intermediate variable in the association between psychosocial risk factors at work and psychotropic drug use.

Full textIt is evident all over literature that healthcare faces operational challenges. Healthcare worldwide is experiencing issues like rising costs and unsatisfactory quality. Without a true solution, physicians will face lower incomes, patients will pay more, and services will be restricted. The healthcare sector faces increased demand and ineffective services. Through the years several quality methodologies tried to get established as promising improvement path-ways, but none dominated, such as Prince2, Six Sigma, Lean Thinking, Lean Sigma, the Action Research Cycle etc. During the last decades though an improvement methodology emerged with surprising results especially in the manufacturing and project environments, which is called Theory of Constraints (TOC). TOC in the healthcare environment is a relatively new research area. Healthcare research in operations like TOC in Surgery Departments and TOC in healthcare logistics are under researched. This research topic is important because there are various healthcare subsystem challenges. Operating rooms are facing high operating costs scheduling and planning is challenging and waiting times are long. Healthcare logistics on the other hand has been identified as one of the key cost drivers. This research focused on a specific logistics issue involving the improvement of the linen management system. Availability of linen is essential and often critical for proper functioning and care delivery

Full textThe advent of the Internet of Things (IoT) raises various issues, both in terms of the development and deployment of IoT applications in computing infrastructures. Cloud Computing is the most widespread computing infrastructure today. It is based on data centers that communicate with each other and with users via monolithic, inflexible network equipments. The importance of revising this schema has been highlighted in order to meet the challenges of an IoT environment that is heterogeneous, mobile and generates a large amount of data that requires rapid processing. The classic IoT model, in which IoT objects send information via their gateways to the Cloud, which then provides services to the applications, finds extensions in the Fog or Edge approach, which enables services to be brought closer to users by relying on intermediate computing and communication equipments between users and data centers. The Fog Computing architecture allows exploiting the computing and storage! capacities of the network infrastructure, in addition to that of the Cloud, for the deployment of IoT services and thus extending and bringing services closer to IoT objects. However, network equipments are heterogeneous and with low computing capacity, they cover a large geographical area and must cope with the mobility of IoT users. All this adds complexity to the problem of service placement and scheduling in order to optimize various parameters such as energy consumption, different costs related to placement and improving the applications quality of service requirements. The objective of our thesis is to propose IoT service placement strategies in a Fog infrastructure while taking into account the dynamic nature of the environment brought by user mobility, the energy cost of computing infrastructures and the QoS requirements of deployed applications

Full textTheory Of Constraints (TOC) is the name given to tools and techniques dedicated to problem solving and decision making created by Dr. Eliyahu M. Goldratt at the beginning of the 1980s. It is clear that there are neither research, nor publications in France on TOC. The concept of constraint is the outcome of a thinking process which lead E. M. Goldratt from a mechanistic posture on operations in organizations to a systemic perception in which this concept dominates, like in mathematics or linear programming. Experiments for 3 years within a French midsize company lead to the contextualization of the usage of TOC elements. They provide a lot of answers to our research questions and allow the assessment of potential contributions, but also of limitations of TOC management approaches mobilized

Full textWe call composition the mechanism for building software applications by service integration. Service-based applications often require properties like dynamic or non-deterministic service selection that require a new definition of software application, which turns out to e very difficult to perform manually. There is a need to automate this process by providing tools and environments. These tools should allow to build flexible software applications and to ensure the consistency and completeness properties of the composition. This thesis focuses on building software applications, from design to execution. In this thesis, we propose a service composition approach and a prototype named SELECTA that meets the needs and challenges of service composition, such as increasing the abstraction level for application specification, incremental building of composites, consistency management and completeness of composites, definition of service constraints languages or service selection algorithms
Ngo, Tu. "Decision support system for enhancing health care services to reduce potentially avoidable hospitalizations." Thesis, Montpellier, 2020. http://www.theses.fr/2020MONTS035.
Full textPotentially avoidable hospitalizations (PAHs) are the hospital admissions that could have been prevented with timely and effective treatments. The high rates of PAHs are associated with many factors. These factors include high mortality rates, low density of primary care physicians, lack of continuity of care, and lack of access to primary care, low median income or low education levels as well as organizational features of health systems such as poor coordination between health care providers. On the other side, in France, there are about 300,000 PAHs every year. These preventable hospitalizations are associated with a cost of several hundred million Euros for the Health Insurance. In other words, reducing PAHs not only enhances patients’ quality of life but also could save substantial costs due to patient treatments. Therefore, health authorities are highly interested in solutions improving health care services to reduce PAHs.Some recent studies in France have suggested that increasing the number of nurses in selected geographic areas could lead to the reduction of the rates of PAHs in those areas. In our approach, after evaluating some common regression methods, we extended the support vector machine for regression to spatial information. This approach allows us to select not only the geographic areas but also the number of to-be-added nurses in these areas for the biggest reduction in the number of PAHs. Specifically, our approach is applied in the Occitanie region, France and geographic areas mentioned above are the cross-border living areas (fr. Bassins de vie - BVs). However, our approach can be extended at the national level or to other regions or countries. On the other side, the extreme temperature could be one potential factor associated with high rates of PAHs. Therefore, a part of our works is to measure the impact of the extreme temperature to PAHs as well as to include this environmental data in our approach above. In our works, we used the temperature values measured hourly by sensors at the weather stations. However, these values are sometimes discontinuous and we need an imputation method for these missing values. In the literature, two most popular approaches dealing with this processing step exploit either the spatial component or temporal component of the temperature data. Respectively, these approaches are spatial interpolation methods such as Inverse Distance Weighted (IDW) and time-series models such as Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA). To help us select the more reliable method, we first compare the performances of both approaches. In addition, we propose a novel approach that combines both dimensions to improve the performance in terms of quality. The results show that compared with IDW and ARIMA methods, our approach performs better at 100% and 99.8% (604 over 605) weather stations respectively. In addition, as mentioned at the beginning, improving the coordination between the health care providers could lead to the reduction of the PAHs. Moreover, in the cases that the patients change hospitals for treatments, to ensure efficient and high-quality treatments, doctors would need access to the patients’ medical records at the previous hospitals. Therefore, health authorities are interested in building hospital communities whereby medical records can be shared among the hospitals. Therefore, we propose a graph-based approach to address this problem. Particularly, we first model data flows of patients between hospitals as an undirected weighted graph in which nodes and edges present the hospitals and the amount of patient flows respectively. Then, after evaluating two common graph clustering methods, we customize the more suitable one for our needs. Our result provides interesting insights compared with approaches based on administrative boundaries

Full textThis research work aims to understand the main occupational injuries for the police officers’ mental health to identify managerial and organizational actions. To this end, we sought to identify the main demands and resources in police activity and its supervision. We based this work on a grounded theory approach, as close as possible to the actors in the ground, and on the triangulation of qualitative methods (direct and participant observation, individual and group interviews, questionnaires). By combining researches from psychology, organizational sociology and police sociology, we built a systemic and multilevel model to understand the organizational dynamics behind the French "police malaise". This research shows that police superintendents are subject to significant sources of tension and are in a situation of “barred management”. It appears that these managers are directly victims of an organizational structure that generates mental suffering and prevent them to respond effectively to their employees’ expectations. Unable to act on the causes of tensions, the psychosocial risks prevention focuses on staff in difficulty. The current concept of quality of working life, consistent with clinical researches in the workplace, is in our opinion a preferred means of action to improve the police officers health and the quality of public service

Full textIndividuals who carry out emotionally demanding work have an increased risk of developing work-related psychological problems. In the face of this situation, support from immediate superiors appears to be important. This research aimed to identify the strategies used by immediate superiors to support their staff. Within this qualitative research study that used as its theoretical framework the ergonomic analysis of work, focus groups were conducted with immediate superiors within a Quebec youth centre (Centre jeunesse). These group interviews revealed seven support strategies as well as certain preparatory strategies. The potential influence of organisational, collective and individual factors on the choice of these strategies was also revealed. These findings contribute to the development of knowledge about the strategies used by immediate superiors to support employees and reveal the importance of contextual factors.

Full textThis thesis shows that it is possible to provide Quality of Service to an overlay application by using alternate Internet paths resulting from the compositions of independent consecutive paths. This thesis also demonstrates that it is possible to discover, select and compose these independent paths in a distributed manner within an community comprising a limited large number of autonomous cooperating peers. Thus, the main contributions of this thesis are : 1) a comprehensive description and QoS characteristic analysis of these composite alternate paths, and 2) an original architecture, termed SPAD (Super-Peer based Alternate path Discovery), which allows the discovery and selection of these alternate paths in a distributed manner. SPAD is a fully distributed system with no single point of failure, which can be easily and incrementally deployed on the current Internet. It empowers the end-users at the edge of the network, allowing them to directly discover and utilize alternate paths

Full textIn recent years, new issues have arisen in environmental considerations, increasingly pointed out in our society. In the field of Information Technology, data centers currently consume about 1.5% of world electricity. This increasing is due to changes in many areas, especially in Cloud Computing. Besides this environmental aspect, the management of energy consumption has become an important field of Quality of Service (QoS), in the responsibility of Cloud providers. These providers propose a QoS contract called SLA (Service Level Agreement), which specify the level of QoS given to users. The level of QoS offered directly influences the quality of the users' utilization, but also the overall energy consumption and performance of computing resources, which strongly affect profits of the Cloud providers. Cloud computing is intrinsically linked to the virtualization of computing resources. A model of hardware and software architecture is proposed in order to define the characteristics of the environment considered. Then, a detailed modeling of QoS parameters in terms of performance, dependability, security and cost is proposed. Therefore, QoS metrics, associated to these parameters are defined in order to extend the possibilities for evaluating the SLA. These models represent the first contribution of this thesis. Then, it is necessary to illustrate how the use and interpretation of several QoS metrics open the possibility of a more complex and precise analysis of algorithms' insight. This multi-criteria approach, that provides useful informations about the system's status can be analyzed to manage the QoS parameters' level. Thus, four antagonists metrics, including energy consumption, are selected and used together in several scheduling algorithms which allow to show their relevance, the enrichment given to these algorithms, and how a Cloud provider can take advantage of the results of this kind of multi-objective optimization. The second contribution presents a genetic algorithm (GA) and two greedy algorithms. The analysis of the genetic algorithm behavior allows to show different interests of a multi-criteria optimization applied to QoS metrics, usually ignored in studies dedicated to Cloud Computing. The third contribution of this thesis proposes a study of the impact of the use of QoS metrics in virtual machines scheduling. The simulator CloudSim has been used and expanded to improve its energy-aware tools. The DVFS (Dynamic Voltage & Frequency Scaling), providing a highly accurate dynamic management of CPU frequencies, the virtual machines reconfiguration, and the dynamic management of events have been included. The simulations involve all of these energy tools and placement algorithms, and evaluate each selected QoS metrics. These simulations allow to see the evolution in time of these metrics, depending on the algorithms used and the behavior of the GA in different optimizations configurations. This allows to analyze from different angles the behavior of greedy algorithms, the impact of optimizations GA, and the influence of these metrics one against the others

Full textThesis work fits in the area of multiprocessor realtime computing under energy constraints. It aims to propose partitioning strategies for tasks on a homogeneous multiprocessor platform and to measure their performance through simulations. These strategies stand out because of their flexibility and ease of implementation for different task models: (i) hard/firm real-time constraints, (ii) implicit/constrained deadlines, (iii) synchronous/asynchronous. First, we extend and propose new partitioning strategies for systems without energy considerations. The second part of the work focuses on energy harvesting real-time embedded systems saving energy from the environment. We assume that in the studied system model each processor of the platform has its own energy reservoir with given size and that the energy source module power does not vary over time. Simulation results show that the proposed partitioning heuristics exhibit similar performances as those that can be observed with semi-partitioning approaches without their drawbacks, in particular the migration costs. These strategies have been derived with a guide for the system helping the designer in the difficult task of choosing the best dimensioning of the system characterized by its energy storage units (battery or supercapacitor) and energy harvesting modules

Full textIn this thesis, multi-scale methods were used in order to describe the behaviour of an organic-matrix composite material, made of unidirectional reinforcing strips randomly disposed in the layout. The mean-field approach (Mori-Tanaka and self-consistent models) allowed us to forecast the mechanical properties of the composite via a two-steps procedure. The difficulties linked to the coexistence in the material of several morphologies of inclusions were overtaken with a more general formulation of the self-consistent model. This model also allowed us to estimate the local service stresses in the composite. Those stresses in the UD strips were also computed with a periodic full-field approach, using the finite elements, which highlighted the advantages and limits of the mean-field approaches. Relying on a description of the resin’s behaviour as a function of temperature and reticulation degree, the evolutions of the composite’s properties and local residual stresses (created by the thermochemical shrinkage of the resin) along the fabrication process could be determined, for several constraints applied to the composite. The problematic of the residual distortions of composite parts was also addressed, focusing on the effect of angle spring-in in L-shaped parts yielded by the material anisotropy. The finite elements allowed us to simulate this spring-in and also the mould-part interactions, accounting for the evolutions of the mechanical properties during the cure process. The opportunity of using a composite mould to cure composite parts was also evaluated

Full textThe thesis work reported in this document aims at providing solutions for scheduling systems defined under firm real-time constraints. The system considered here is assumed to schedule real-time periodic tasks defined under Quality of Service (QoS) constraints. Also, it must be able to manage the occurrence of aperiodic tasks which may lead to a temporary overload of the system. First, we give an introduction to real-time systems and we provide a bibliographical synthesis about scheduling in the presence of overload. Then, we propose two novel scheduling strategies of real-time periodic tasks defined under QoS constraints using the Skip-Over model. After, we stufy the problem of scheduling hybrid task sets consisting of aperiodic tasks and periodic tasks defined under QoS constraints. The thesis contribution is focused on the use of the optimal EDL (Earliest Deadline as Late as possible) server with periodic tasks with QoS constraints. A performance study of the different models considered is reported. Then, we are interested in two evaluation criteria of those scheduling strategies in the presence of overload, namely stability and robustness. We present two novel scheduling algorithms for the Skip-Over model, based on previous works relating to fault-tolerance. Finally, in the last chapter, we present the integration of the scheduling strategies studied and proposed within the framework of the thesis, under a version of Linux for real-time. An evaluation of the integrated components is stated

Full textWe consider in this thesis the resource allocation problems in multi-user OFDM downlink systems under various Quality of service (QoS) constraints. Our goal is to propose practical solutions given partial channel-state information (CSI). We first look for the optimal subcarrier sharing in a single cell subject to differentiated QoS constraints among users. Although users are allowed to share the same subcarrier simultaneously, we prove that an orthogonal sharing (an OFDMA scheme), along with an appropriate power allocation, maximizes the weighted sum-rate. Then, we generalize OFDMA optimality to other performance criteria such as the common rate, the proportional rates, etc. Assuming an OFDMA downlink, we focus on QoS fairness by first considering the single cell case. We assume also a partial CSI consisting in the average channel gain for each user. Thus, we describe the optimal subcarrier and rate allocation that maximizes a common user rate under bounded outage probabilities. Finally, we consider the multi-cell case and we propose to use the frequency reuse partitioning as an inter-cell interference mitigation technique. Under realistic QoS fairness constraints and partial CSI, we provide a practical solution for subcarrier, base station and rate allocation that allows us to maximize the user data rate

Full textThe study of the Networked Control Systems (NCS) is based both on the identification of the application functioning requirements called Quality of Control (QoC) and on the evaluation of the Quality of Service (QoS) offered by the network. The studies on the NCS are classified according to two approaches: the control over network and the control of network. This thesis addresses the second approach and models the scheduling mechanisms implemented in the Ethernet switches that are more and more used in the industrial applications. The specific QoS parameter studied in this thesis is the delay disturbing the controlled system. This thesis proposes two models of classification of service based on WRR (Weighted Round Robin) schedulers. The first modeling follows a constructive approach by using the network calculus theory. The second is based on an identification step from numerical simulations and from the fuzzy logic. In the two cases, the purpose is both to offer enough bandwidth for the time constrained traffic and to maximize the bandwidth dedicated to the others traffics to avoid famine effects. The network calculus approach is used to configure off-line the network in respecting the NCS strict time constraints. The solution based on the fuzzy logic enables a dynamic control of the scheduler in order to tune on-line the network according to the traffic variations. This latter can be applied only to NCS with soft time constraints

Full textThis thesis is dedicated to the periodic vehicle routing problem when applied to the transportation of valuable goods. Specifics constraints have to be defined to ensure the security of the convoy. The periodic vehicle routing problems with time spread constraints on services (PVRPTS) is defined and a mathematical model is given. The goal is to serve a set of customers over several days such that their visit times differ by a minimum amount. The depicted model is discussed and two constructive heuristics are designed and assessed.A Multi-start iterated local search (MS-ILS) is proposed to solve this problem. The results shows that the method outperform the two previous heuristics. For the sake of comparison with previous approaches, the MS-ILS is evaluated on a more classical problem : the vehicle routing problem with soft time windows (VRPSTW). The method proves to be very competitive, producing new best known solutions. The MS-ILS is then adapted to solve the consistent vehicle routing problem (ConVRP). Unlike the PVRPTS, the goal of the ConVRP is to deliver customers with intermittent demands with regularity in terms of service times and drivers. The method demonstrate his flexibility and produce good results. Finally, the developments performed at Nexxtep Technologies are depicted. They encompass commercial-software design and implementation of the proposed methods

Full textThis research work concerns the study of the induced physical phenomena by the introduction of handling surface anomalies such as dents or scratches, on high pressure turbine disks. On one hand, they create a geometrical stress concentration at the anomaly root and combined with the severe thermomechanical loadings undergone by the disks, leads to a short crack initiation and propagation. On the other hand, these anomalies induce deformations which lead to hardening and residual stresses in the material. The latter have an important influence on the crack propagation and is necessary to take into account. Thus, the aim is to characterize these phenomena induced by the introduction of surface anomalies, namely the short crack effect and the residual stress field. For the short crack effect characterization, a pioneering experimental campaign has been set up implying uniaxial and multiaxial fatigue tests as well as numerical simulations in crack propagation. This experimental campaign highlights the T-stress effect on the crack propagation first. Then, it gives an experimental protocol to obtain short cracks and characterize their behavior. Finally, it gives a lead to take into account the short crack effect via the T-stress.With the aim of characterizing the residual stress field, Synchrotron X-ray diffraction measurements have been performed at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF) at Grenoble. The determination of the interatomic distances allows to determine the strains and the induced residual stresses by the anomaly. The results show important 3D stress levels, gradients and a substantial in-depths extent, as expected. The numerical model of a dent introduction has been improved to compare the experimental results with.A strategy to take into account these phenomena in the Incremental model is given in the perspectives in order to consider crack propagation from surface anomalies

Full textThis thesis proposes a new approach relating to the packets scheduling algorithm, the cooperation scheme and the nodes' mobility for IEEE 802.11 wireless network family. Considering the QoS delivery process at the MAC level consists the main feature of the proposal research study. The analysis of the current mechanisms leads to keep the protocol EDCF as the basic model for our work platform. In order to overcome the weakness of the earlier 802.11 standard, a new model based on multi-scheduler algorithm, called HCF-T, is proposed. The achieved performances are summarized following several criteria: traffic control, throughput improving, collisions avoidance, and network load decreasing. Furthermore, in the way of getting better results according to the PHY layer, we presented and analyzed a model of cooperative diversity scheme. It included a couple of relaying protocols AAF and DAF supported by a set of combining techniques to backup the signal at the receiver. To support node's mobility within EDCF, we built-up a model of WLAN which able to track node motion and control the access as in real condition. In the case of overlapping APs ranges, we developed a Multi-coverage algorithm aiming to carry out the session associations. As a result, three levels (Low, Medium, and High) of node's speed are discerned. Finally, EDCF has been implemented on various static and dynamic scenarios. The performances, based on the main MAC-layer metrics, such as throughput, End-2-End delay, and jitter, have been classified and comprehensively evaluated
