Full textThe sémantic-syntactic description of the preposition knew during the last quarter century a renewed interest within various theoretical frameworks. Distinct from the prepositions with meants if not transparencies at last lexcalement partially paraphrasables, the”colourless” prepositions call protocols of specific, description and analysis, all the more specific, in addition, that our point of view is guided by a prospect contrastivist. The first part of the thesis proposes to study the various theoretical approaches of the prepositional category: distributionnalism, semantic guillaumienne, semantic cognitive. The second part proposes a systematic description of the syntagms in, distinguishing the structures binominals(SN1 of SN2), structures X of + infinitive, structure X of + adjectival and structures X of + adverb starting from a major distinction between a first unit of employment not contextuellement constrained. Beyond syntactic specificities of each one of these structures, highlighted need for dissociating, in the plan semantic, -employment where interpretation, accessible in a narrow cotexte, results from the report drawn up by the preposition on the basic of sémantico-referential property of the components which it links, employment where interpretation requires a broad cotexte, even an extralinguistic context. The third part is properly a contrastivist. It is based on the description of language agni, its typological localization and its principal phonological, morphological and syntactic charactaristics like on the installationof the corpus of reference(starting from recording on the ground, in Ivory Coast, in the villages of Akounougbé, Abiaty and Adiman). It develops then, from the particular point of view implied by our subject, of objective to examine the modes of transposition of structures in in agni

Full textA contrastive analysis at the lexical level of the french and portuguese languages that takes a corpus as a starting point in order to detect the elements of divergence and similarity between the two systems. A first theoretical volume presents the objective and methodology of the research and points out the epistemological and historical aspects considered important to the comprehension of the problem. The contrastive lexical analysis itself comprises two phases - the comparison at the level of expression and the comparison at the level of meaning. Thus resulting a contrastive typology that serves as a basic material to the teaching of french vocabulary to native speakers of portuguese. The conclusion brings forward some theoretical reflexions based on the empiric data collected. In the contrastive dictionary ( vol. II and III), one finds the categorization of each unity of the corpus as well as of its equivalent in portuguese

Full textThis thesis deals with the rhythm, stress and intonation in rap and reggae music. It describes the form features of declamations which combine chant, halfsinging and singing, in the theoretical framework of contrastive prosody and verse theory. The thesis consists of seven chapters and is based on a textual corpus of 200 songs in French and Czech, assembled for this dissertation. The linguistic material of 59,000 syllabes is a representativeset of excerpts, transcribed in rhythmic grids with an auditive analysis. From the prosodic point of view, rap and reggae display an important degree of rhythmic reorganisation. In both languages, setting texts to music is performed according to an isochronous pattern, which is imposed on the lyrics with an isosyllabic rhythm and whose bound stress system is weak. It is shown through interactive constraints, which reflect universal tendencies in verbal art, that both genres exhibit a lot of freedom in the association of lyrics and the musical meter. Several linguistic categories manifest various types of mismatches. A form rearrangement (stress shifts, dynamic stress) follows from this rhythmisation, as well as from the syllable density of the metrical scheme and a rather high speaking rate. French rap has the most frequent use of poetic license through its practice of the Stress Promotion principle (accenting syllables falling on the beats). The syllabic level seems intact in the realisation of the imported rhythms, as several measures demonstrate that rap and reggae are closer to speech than to singing. A similar observation appears at the intonational level of rap, because its nuclear contour inventory makes it closely resemble speech. From the metrical point of view, a big part of the corpus is classified as chanted and half-sung liberated verse. The lineation is supported by intonation, which participates in a strophic grouping, according to the genres' model of American and Jamaican reggae. The lyrics are also interpretable as verse instances of the alliterative meter. Its rhythmical techniques (internal rhymes, syncopation, etc) establish a poetic grammar of rap and reggae and define the two stages of their evolution

Full textExploring the both strange and familiar place that ‘situations wanted’ represents has been the aim of this piece of work. It is familiar because, like all text types, it seems obvious : before being a concept, the text type already exists. Situations wanted is one of those verbal routines, a stereotyped speech act using a pattern. This pattern, even though it makes formulation easier, also makes for the uniformity of all text objects ; it is this very specificity which allows a contrastive approach, whose objective is to bring to light the patterns "Demande d’emploi" and "Stellengesuch" and their common points and differences. It is a strange place between the constraints set by the situation and the freedom for the writer to turn the pattern into parole, to blow up this closed and fixed space by dynamic enunciation. After achieving the state of research, it is the integrative, Top-Down analysis (Mehrebenenmodell) based on the following categories of content, function, situation and form, which seems to be the most appropriate to account for this complex textual object. The text is first analysed using Searle’s theory of speech acts, i. E. As a directive speech act. The pragmatic approach shows the interaction of external and internal parameters. Then, the choice of an enunciative and argumentative approach allows us to describe the strategic devices brought into play by the speaker in order to influence the interlocutor and in particular, the part played by verbal subjectivity in the process of persuasion

Full textFrom a corpus whose particularly worked out transcript is enclosed, this study upholds the thesis that if french and german news are se different and it's almost unthinkable to transpose a model from a country to the other, it's because their ennunciative marks, whether linguistic or semiotic, belong to two radically constrasting ways of doing things. After defining its fields in the various theories of communication, semiotics and linguistics, this research - which therefore isn't an analysis of contein but an analysis of marks, pictures and language - examines the deixis (i, here, now) of the tv message. In france the text as well as the picture are utterly funneled through the annoncer's personnal point of view whereas their german colleagues are as little committed as possible. It's probably the consequence of the strict discrimination between news and commentary prevailing in germany ever since 1945. To conclude with, one can assert that the german tv news are of a referential type whereas french tv news are more like a phatic model

Full textThis study aims to provide some answers to three basic questions concerning light verb structures: its identification, delimitation of other combinations that share the same surface structure and a review of its classical definition. Once identified and defined the object of our study, we adopt the linguistic theory of employ (G. Gross 2012), which allows us to approach light verbs from two perspectives: the contrastive study of French-Spanish light verbs and its translation

Full textOur main purpose is to find an efficient methodology, in order to clarify a certain number of notions, often loaded with ambiguity, such as transitivity. When trying to specify the syntactic functions in both languages, we adopted a strategy relying upon a dependency gammar, akin to l. Tesniere's functonal grammar. We established a series of tests, whose purpose is to demonstrate each syntactic function's different behaviour in both languages. The main distinction we are looking for is following : some syntactical functions are " closely " linked to the verb (vc, for "verb complements"), while some stay "outside" the vc kernel (sc, for "sentence complements"). Hence we determined which testes, in each of both languages, would identify the functions. We observated that similar functions would have to be tested according to whether they were realized in french or in chinese. Such notions as "transitive" and or "intranitive" verb, "direct" and or "indirect" objet, "circumstant", as well as "prepositional phrase" were made explicit for each of both languages. Similarities between passive and factitive verb forms were also made clear

Full textThe thesis proposes a reflection on the possibilities and limits of the translation of reported speech in both German and French. The postulate of this study is the complementarity between contrastive linguistics and translation study. In the first part, the operational concepts are ascertained : we describe the enunciative modalities of reported speech - thereby raising the issue of its delimitation - and we present the different, yet here convergent, methodological principles that surround contrastive linguistics and translation. The second part focuses on the confrontation from the reported speech systems. The third part consists of a translation analysis and is based on a corpus of literary texts and press. The analysis sheds light on the importance of speech levels, the impact of the type of speech, and reveals new aspects about the translation of free indirect forms of speech representation

Errors at the level of determinants strangely reveal an inability to master the first language in many vietnamese students. Full textThe aim of this study is to determine the problems of a morphological kind faced by malay students studying french. The methods used are contrastive analysis and error analysis. This thesis is divided into three parts : (1) a description of the morphology of malay and french; (2) contrastive analysis and error analysis; (3) pedagogical implications. There are altogether eight chapters. Chapter i concerns the explication of the malay language and other languages spoken in malaysia. Chapter ii offers a description of the morphological processes of malay followed by an inventory of the different classes in chapter iii. Chapter iv is devoted to a description of the morphological processes of french. In chapter v, we carry out a contrastive analysis of the two languages while in chapter vi, an error analysis is carried out using the data from responses given by a group of malay students in a test administered to them. In chapter vii, we examine the pedagogical implications of contrastive analysis and error analysis. Finally, in chapter viii, several teaching methods are examined in an attempt to trace the development of methodologies in the teaching of foreign languages. In the conclusion, we discuss the role of the teacher confronted with conflicting theories and methodologies

Full textThe purpose of this thesis is to describe precisely the semantics of the French vague quantifiers quelques and plusieurs, and of the German einig-, ein paar, etlich- and mehrer- in order to propose a comparison. A qualitative analysis of a French literary corpus has allowed us to extricate semantic operating criteria allowing to differentiate the quantifiers from each other. These operating criteria had the possibility, for the most part, to be then applied to German quantifiers, analyzed from a similar corpus to the French one. The study of a second German corpus, journalistic, has allowed to hone on the preferences of use relative to that kind of speech. All these vague quantifiers share a core meaning of “small vague quantities” and therefore the semes and the secondary potential traits allow to know each’s own semantic profile, to understand their operation and thus their preferred use. In the last part we put together the functioning of both language’s quantifiers, offer equivalencies by context and improvements of their monolingual and bilingual lexicographic treatment

Full textThis work relates to the inherent transformations to the transition from literary medium to cinematografic one.To study this issue, a double corpus was analysed, formed on one side of three textes taken from remembrance of the things past, on another side their respective film adaptations namely Swann in love of Volker Schlöndorff, The Time regained of Raoul Ruiz and The Captive of Chantal Akerman. Using this corpus, we were able determine the types of processing involved as well as the implemented strategies and the mecanisms underlying those latter. From this point of view, the practice of transposition is no longer matter of fidelity but a transtextuel dynamics that results in three inter semiotic links wich are resistance, deviation and extension. Thus filmic transposition becomes a language and the adaptation a kind of speech

Full textOur study aims to analyze the changes in adjectives that occur in the Swedish translation of L’Amant (the Lover) of Duras (1984). French is an analytical language where many analytical constructs can be discovered. Elisabeth Tegelberg (2000) states that French lexemes (in this study concerning adjectives) generally have a lower semantic complexity than Swedish lexemes (Tegelberg, 2000 : 13). The Swedish language has both analytical and synthetic characteristics, and since the two languages have different structures, strategies and methods are needed to achieve as exact an equivalence as possible in a translation. The study addresses the regroupings of components of meaning (Ingo, 1991 : 186-187), special semantic cases such as explicit and implicit action, transposition where a change of word class takes place but the meaning remains, and semantic additions and omissions. The examination of the translation of the text of Duras’ L'Amant shows that there is a frequent use of transpositions as well as synthetic and analytical regroupings. It also shows that Swedish lexemes generally have a great semantic complexity where the adjective group with the suffix -ig stands out as a group. French lexemes in comparison are more general and depend on other lexemes to express an exact meaning. The theoretical framework is based on the research of Tegelberg, which is presented in her book Kontrastiv lexikologi i praktiken (2000) and by Ingo, in the two books Från källspråk till målspråk (1991) and Konsten att översätta (2011).

Full textThe objective of this thesis in discourse analysis is a critical and comparative analysis of discourses about breastfeeding in two different ethnolinguistic communities: France and Germany. The original research question is: is the option of breastfeeding a real choice or do women follow the path lined up by authors ? We gathered a corpus composed of institutional booklets and parent's manuals. In our research, we have considered how the authors of these guides and booklets are positioning themselves in their discourses and the arguments put forward to convince women to breastfeed. The study of milk and breastfeeding characterizations in our corpus of French and German texts has allowed us to show that these authors leave little opportunity to choosing breastfeeding, even if this lack of choice is translated in a different way in the two ethnolinguistic communities studied

Title: Les verbes à particule dans quatre traductions suédoise. Analyse contrastive entre langue source et langue cible.
Language: French
Author: Annika Holmé
University/Department/Year: Linnæus University/School of Language and Literature/2010
In modern French there are no phrasal verbs and the aim of this essay is to analyse what happens to the meaning of French data, when translated into Swedish phrasal verbs. In Swedish there is very often a choice between a phrasal verb and a simple verb, for example starta et starta upp.
This is a contrastive analysis based on four different translations from French into Swedish, one of which is technical, one economic, one cultural and one political. In these four translations there were in total 128 examples of a Swedish phrasal verb, or in some cases past participles. Our analysis comprises the following particles (adverbs and prepositions): av, i, ihop, in, ner, om, på, till, upp and ut. We have analysed 43 cases where these particles have occurred.
First of all, we define the meaning of the French data (which is not always a verb) and then we define the Swedish translation with a phrasal verb. Next, we compare both meanings, in order to see if the presence of the particle has kept, changed or modified the meaning between source and target text. Finally, we explain the reason behind each translation.
Our analysis revealed that the meaning was sometimes made explicit, as in spara in. In other cases, the meaning was intensified, as in driva på. Furthermore, the analysis revealed a difference in levels of style, where in some cases the presence of a particle passed on a more informal style in the target text in comparison to the source text, as in starta upp.

Full textThe aim of this study is to establish a metalinguistic category "moyen" which can be used as an interface between descriptions of the instrumental relation in french and korean. This study is motivated by the vagueness of the descriptive tools: "moyen" in french and "sudan" in korean, which are currently used in dictionaries, grammar books, linguistic studies. In order to define these descriptive tools clearly, we first considered the normal form of utterance on which the interpretation "moyen" is based. The form concerns : "nucleus-sentence + relation ,ominal marker-N". Secondly, we set up a small number of reproducible paraphrases which permit us to discover the parameters for distinguishing the interpretation "moyen" from its other interpretations. From a contrasting point of view, we made a point of defining the metalinguistic category "moyen" by the syntactic and semantic properties, which bring out the points that expressions of the instrumental relation in french and korean have in common and those where they differ. In this way, we defined a metalinguistic category "moyen" in french and korean : in some cases, this is determined by a generalizing semantical principle; in others, by local parameters linked to semantical configurations specific to each language

The comparative works, based upon the contrastive analysis of "Vendredi ou les limbes du pacifique" and "Vendredi ou la vie sauvage" of Michel Tournier, is structured on rand two mains lines: 1. Textual components (narrative, descriptive, poetic, referential, intertextual and argumentative). 2. Syntactic, lexical and rhetorical levels. The aim of this analysis is to show, by the means of linguistic criterions, if does exist or not a specificity of the language of the literature for young readers

Full textThis present work tries to give an explanation to difficulties that meet the gabonese learners in learning spanish, foreign language. In its development, this thesis draws up a panorama on the situation socio-linguistic of Gabon, on the concepts mother tongue, foreign language and on the models of analysis: Contrastive Analysis, errors Analisis and Interlanguage. This thesis gives also a vision of the three languages, Spanish, French and punu like autonomous systems, with particular characteristics which present certain similarities. From the written productions of the pupils of third and terminal, this thesis proposes to analyze the interferences produced by learners. A sample of 100 copies of duties has constituted the tool of this study. Through these productions, we have identified two types of errors: interlingual and intralingual. Full textWith the evolution of Web technology, healthcare documentation is becoming increasinglyabundant and accessible to all, especially to patients, who have access to a large amount ofhealth information. Unfortunately, the ease of access to medical information does not guaranteeits correct understanding by the intended audience, in this case non-experts. Our PhD work aimsat creating a resource for the simplification of medical texts, based on a syntactico-semanticanalysis of verbs in four French medical corpora, that are distinguished according to the levelof expertise of their authors and that of the target audiences. The resource created in thepresent thesis contains 230 syntactico-semantic patterns of verbs (called pss), aligned withtheir non-specialized equivalents. The semi-automatic method applied, for the analysis of verbs,in order to achieve our goal is based on four fundamental tasks : the syntactic annotation of thecorpora, carried out thanks to the Cordial parser (Laurent et al., 2009) ; the semantic annotationof verb arguments, based on semantic categories of the French version of a medical terminologyknown as Snomed International (Côté, 1996) ; the acquisition of syntactico-semantic patternsof verbs and the contrastive analysis of the verbs behaviors in the different corpora. Thepss, acquired at the end of this process, undergo an evaluation (by three teams of medicalexperts) which leads to the selection of candidates constituting the nomenclature of our textsimplification resource. These pss are then aligned with their non-specialized equivalents, thisalignment leads to the creation of the simplification resource, which is the main result of ourPhD study. The content of the resource was evaluated by two groups of people : linguists andnon-linguists. The results show that the simplification of pss makes it easier for non-expertsto understand the meaning of verbs used in a specialized way, especially when a certain set ofparameters is collected
Sardá, Daniela Nienkötter. "Les manuels de philosophie en France et au Brésil : une analyse du discours contrastive de la prise en charge énonciative." Thesis, Sorbonne Paris Cité, 2015. http://www.theses.fr/2015PA05H009/document.
Full textThis thesis in discourse analysis aims to analyse comparatively the discursive genre "philosophy textbook" in two different ethnolinguistic communities: France and Brazil. The investigation is realized using the notion of "enunciative undertaking" ("prise en change énonciative", PCE), which is our main entry point for analysing a corpus constituted by nine philosophy textbooks. We seek to know how the authors undertake their discourses in the textbooks, in order to answer the following research question: "What are the representations that one has of philosophy and its teaching, according to the philosophy textbooks' discourses?". The linguistic analyses are divided into maximal enunciative undertaking (PCE+) and minimal enunciative undertaking (PCE-). Enunciative erasing, a correlative notion of that of PCE, as well as a set of categories that stem from enunciative linguistics, are used in this analysis. At the end of our research, we propose some interpretations that seek to take into account social representations concerning philosophy and its teaching, recognisable through textbook analysis. Roughly speaking, these social representations are due, on the one hand, to the stability of philosophy teaching in the French school system and, on the other hand, to the instability of the Brazilian school system
Full textThis thesis focuses on the analysis of interphrastic connectors in French and in Chinese from a contrastive perspective. We have chosen to study attentively three most frequent and representative interphrastic adverbial connectors in French: pourtant (concession), donc (result), finalement (succession) and their most common Chinese equivalents in order to clarify their particularities and to elucidate the semantic, syntactic and discursive features that they present in both languages. From a methodological point of view, this study adopts a quantitative and qualitative approach, and is based on both comparable and parallel corpora. We refer to two types of corpus: comparable and parallel. The comparable corpora are composed of the journalistic corpus of Emobase in French and BCC corpus in Chinese. The parable corpus is based on the multilingual Sketchengine platform.Furthermore, this thesis aims to contribute to a better understanding of the semantic values, syntactic and discursive features of interphrastic connectors in French and in Chinese. It could be a useful linguistic material for research and didactic applications. The problematic of the thesis is located at the crossroads of several fields: textual linguistics, contrastive linguistics and corpus linguistics, paying particular attention to textual organization

Full textThis research aims to deepen present-day scientific knowledge about politicians’ communication on Twitter in different national contexts. Namely, it proposes a new angle of analysis through the notion of semiosphere. The PhD examines components of political discourse on Twitter, by means of Lotman’s theory of the semiosphere, particularly their structure as a coherent semiotic space created around an “event” on a digital platform. This analysis deals with the questions of modelling, representing and interpreting of an “event” within the discourses put in different cultural contexts. The PhD is based on the quantitative but especially qualitative analysis of different language-based corpora (French, British, German, Russian). The research mobilises a variety of theoretical approaches, in order to set up a contrastive as well as comprehensive approach to the analysis of political communication on Twitter

Full textFrame semantics and argumentation analysis are among the most popular research methodologies in discourse linguistics. Over the course of the last few years, semantic frames and argumentative topoi have been used in numerous studies to analyse the lexical and argumentative dimension of discourse. However, their simple addition contradicts one of the most basic premises of frame semantics, namely, the idea that frames are not only a tool of semantic analysis but also the universal format of conceptual representation structuring our know ledge of and our interactions with the world that surrounds us. Semantic frames, thus, potentially allow for a description of all knowledge structures underlying discourse at different levels of abstraction. By integrating the concept of argumentative relations in the established methodology of frame analysis, these different dimensions of discursive meaning construction become describable in frame semantic terms. These argumentative relations between discourse elements at the text surface can be seen as mirroring equivalent relations between the constituent elements of cognitive frames at the conceptual level. This approach will be used in the empirical section to analyse the parliamentary discourse on nuclear energy in the French Assemblée nationale and the German Bundestag from 1946 to 2012

Full textThis thesis is composed of three parts: nominal group anaphora, verbal group anaphora and predication anaphora. As it is too general, the concept of anaphora needed redefinition. So, i made a distinction between two types of anaphora: one of phase i which signals that when the enunciator refers to the previous context, the operation he makes is limited to the semantic programme of the items he takes back, and the other of phase 2 which signals that this semantic level is presupposed and that the grammatical structure is pre-constructed because co-accepted by the enunciator and the co-enunciator. This distinction was necessary to give a satisfactory explanation to the structuring and functioning of pronouns, this, do this and do so on the one hand (anaphora of phase 1) and the, that, it, do that, do it,-ing and do operator of syntactic liaison between subject and predicate on the other (anaphora of phase 2). This abstract mechanism of phases gave me tools to show the coherence of the architecture underlying the three languages studied, and to show that one language can shed lights on the functioning of another. I also compared my explanation to that of contemporary researchers to make explicit the new measures i brought. .

Full textThis research has for objective the application of theoretical and methodological approaches to the interpretation of [N1N2] N sequences in French, with a contrastive study of the similar sequences in Persian. The thesis divides in two major parts. The first part provides a historic and linguistic overview of binominal compounds alongside the old and modern theories in this field. It deals with the history of composition in Sanskrit, Greek and Latin as well as different syntactic and morphological aspects of the French language, until the most recent approaches in the modern linguistics. At the end of this part, the studies on the composition in Persian have been reviewed. This historical vision of the subject can be used as a basis for discussing the relevant criteria of analysis for the study of our data, by allowing us to develop a multidimensional and inter-modular approach to the syntax, morphology and semantics. The second part presents two main approaches to the analysis and interpretation of nominal N1N2 sequences in French (dictionary based and non-dictionary based corpora) and the similar sequences in Persian. The first approach of Arnaud & Renner is a morpho-semantic and referential classification of N1N2 sequences in two main categories.of subordinative and coordinative compounds. The second approach, proposed by Noailly, consists in analysis of the N1N2 combinations within the framework of four interpretative classes including qualification, complementation, coordination, and identification. These two models also make the interpretation of the sequences that are in the process of lexicalization as well as those that are not entered the dictionnaries yet possible. This study allows us to analyze binominal sequences from a multifunctional point of view, to understand the mechanisms of the interpretative irregularity, and to show that a number of sequences are capable of producing two and more potential interpretations

Full textThis thesis is an attempt to apply the metaoperational syntactic theory (adamczewski 1976, 1982, 1991. . . ) on two different languages : contemporary english and standard arabic. We have given prominence to the symmetrical working of the two phases (ph. I ph. Ii) through three metalinguistic operations : the elementary predicative relation (s-to-p), assertion and negation. The first chapter addresses preliminary questions about the descriptive syntactic models and their failure to solve many basic problems. The central chapters may be taken as a plea to the metaoperational approach in linguistics. We've tried to demonstrate how english and arabic give evidence of the symmetrical working of this dichotomy (thematicity thematicity). Our analysis ends or culminates in chapter 5 with the proposal of an analytic glossary of the main metaterms utilized in metaoperational grammar. An arabic and english translation is given to the 98 french metaterms that we've analysed
