Full textCurrent economic constraints induced by a market demand in constant evolution oblige enterprises to face more demanding customers and fierce competition. In addition to these economic constraints, companies must face necessary industrial reorganisations. In this context, many enterprises have not considered the problem of experience capitalisation. Consequently, the enterprise is confronted to the problem of know-how capitalisation and exploitation. In order to bring a contribution to this problem, we propose a distributed multi-expert architecture with hierarchical control for a reactive shop-floor control of production systems. This work falls under the framework of the SYCORO (Objective-driven Reactive Control System) on on-line control of production systems able to take into account aspects such as integration, flexibility, reactivity and know-how capitalisation

Full textThe new relative French legislation of wastes bas important repercussion on urban management and the public and private service development those are associated there. The system Wastes" placed under the local collectivity responsibility is complex. The multiple collection and processing scenarios can be envisaged. The recourse to the classic economic theory of the market does not allow determining the best choice among these last. The presented solution leans on a model of assistance with the decision. This model is represented by a linear programming model whose flows of the different collect or the different processes’ are variables. It has bad remained from data collected on the Great Lyon. Results obtained on the atone criterion of cost - benefit are not always compatible with political or legislative directives. The model proposed to two modules: a current behavior analysis of the Urban Community of Lyon and an analysis of optimization cost- benefit (economic) elements of costs and benefits are constitutive elements of the model. Results of the first model confirm that the Urban Community of Lyon respects the law in first time. But, the important in this decision is that this behavior is not far from the economic logic. The second model, explains that to optimize management CO URL Y has to eliminate the process n° 4. That’s to say multi materials collecting in container. The model sensitivity Study proposes us important and possible changes concerning to equipment and resources to improve the economic situation of this management

Full textSoftware depend on third-party libraries to reduce development and maintenance costs. Developers have access to robust functionalities through an application programming interface designed by these libraries. However, due to the strong relationship with these libraries, developers have to reconsider their position when the software evolves. In this thesis, we identify several re-search problems involving these third-party libraries in a context of software maintenance. More specifically, a library may not satisfy the software new requirements and has to be replaced by anew one. We call this operation a library migration. We leverage three points that characterize the impediments met by developers in this situation. To which library should they migrate ? How to migrate their software ? Who can help them in this case ? This thesis suggests answers and exposes several contributions to these problems. We define three approaches that are evaluated through several case studies. To achieve this work, weuse a methodology based on software evolution analysis to observe and understand how software change. We describe numerous perspectives to overcome the current limitations of our solutions

Full textIn this thesis we detail a new advanced transaction model that not only supports cooperation between activities through intermediate results exchanges while executing, but also allows them to be distributed and autonomous and to use possibly different cooperation schema to share their data. Our main objective was to decentralize the control of interactions towards the activities themselves, ie: - each activity coordinates its own interactions with other activities; - these controls performed locally implicitly ensure the synchronization of the whole system. With that in mind, we defined two distributed corectness criteria: the D-serializability and the the DisCOO-serializability. They provide the same global properties than classical corectness criteria (serializability and COO-serializability) but they only rely on local controls performed by each transaction. Besides the decentralization of the control of interactions, our second objective was to define mechanisms to let transactions negotiate the ruLes (cooperation schemas) they want to verify on their data exchanges

Full textThe subject of our thesis focuses on the systems of quality control of production. In a competition, the complex of production systems must to integrate customer satisfaction and anticipation of customer on their needs, internally and externally. To achieve this goal, the satisfaction of customers, we use the concept of control and quality management. In this thesis, we proposed a methodology to control the process of piloting, then the optimization of the production system. In the start of our methodology, we call the tools of SPC (statistical processes control) to determine the critical process and collect the necessary data, then we use the method of IDEF (IDEF0 - IDEF3) to realize the functional model. The second step in our methodology is the realization of dynamic model which based on Petri nets by using specific rules. We applied this methodology on the maintenance system in a power plant. Moreover, we have proposed an approach to implementation of a quality management system (QMS). Finally, we realized the optimization of achieved model by using the simulated annealing and pace of machine. This thesis has been finalized by studying the various policies of quality control

Full textThis thesis aims to model and optimise two components of the air traffic flow management system : predictibility and flexibility. This modelling is equivalent to establishing a relationship between the time window and the rate of arrival flights. Two approachs are used : the analysis of historical data and mathematical modeling. The analysis of historical data was used to establish the relationship between the time window and arrivla rate of flights. It provided the optimal time window but could not show how to modify the system to lead to that time window. Mathematical modeling can not only define the predictability and flexibility in the rigourous manner but also deal with different scenarios of fligths priorities. The combination of DC algorithm with classical methods like Branch and Bound has significantly improved the speed of convergence of solutions and therefore it can be used for the tactical phase of the air traffic flow management

Since then, its growth has been two digits (2015). It optimizes the performance of industrial companies with software (BrainCube) that identifies overperformance conditions. The thesis, carried out in CIFRE within the R&D service led by Sylvain Rubat du Mérac, is located at the interface of management control, production management and information systems.Aim: BrainCube manages massive descriptive data of its customers' process flows. Its analysis engine identifies overperformance situations and broadcasts them in real time through tactile interfaces. BrainCube couples two flows: informational and physical. The mission is to integrate the economic variable. A literature study shows that simultaneous real-time evaluation of physical, informational and financial flows coupled with continuous improvement of production processes is not realized.Result: A literature review examines the practices and methods of management control to propose a real-time method adapted to the specificities of BrainCube. The case study, based on an engineering-research, proposes a generic modeling methodology of the economic variable. Configurable generic decision models are proposed. They must facilitate the use of real time information with high granularity. The contributions, limits and perspectives highlight the interest of works for the company and the management sciences

Full textOften designed outside organizations, questions on the appropriation of management tools within organizations emerge. Understanding the appropriation of a management tool goes beyond observing its use. The stages prior to its use – which have led to the adoption of a tool – must be addressed. To avoid obscuring the interaction between the tool(s) and the stakeholder(s), it is essential to consider the tool as embedded in an arrangement, a configuration of objects, rules and stakeholders. Finally, analyzing the past and the present without looking to the future conflicts with the concept that an organization is constantly evolving. To take account of all these aspects, this PhD thesis develops an observation method to identify the trajectory of appropriation of control arrangements within an organization. There are three essential phases: the characterization of the arrangements, an ex ante analysis of what led to the situation, and the identification of the organization's capacity as regards appropriation. Combining these three analyses makes it possible to envisage a trajectory of appropriation relative to the arrangement studied. Applied to the control arrangement of research in a university, this method reveals the decoupling of form and sense between laboratories' control arrangements and those of central administration. This decoupling is undoubtedly inevitable considering the institutional and organizational perspectives. It is also useful for the appropriation process; it is a latency period which enables the construction of sense and form. To extend the appropriation process, the university must develop its appropriation capacities by promoting interactions. Indeed, without loosely re-Coupling management control arrangements relative to research, a process of deconstruction of sense could be triggered

Here, weighting terms are set to take advantages of both their position compared to other terms (co-occurrence) and their local and global context. We will also highlight the contribution of semantics compared to the linguistic-statistic approach. MAID was developed in order to suggest assignments topics of documents to a referential. Full textWe live, for more than half a century, what some call a "third industrial revolution", that of personal computers, of smartphones and more recently of internet of things. If these technical systems impress by their power and by the new possibilities that they open, they remain platforms which, in themselves, have no utility. What gives them their use value are essentially applications that they offer to their users, and these are not necessarily developed by companies that produce these platforms. This thesis proposes to focus on the third party applications developers, and more specifically to "developer communities" which surround the two main platforms of the smartphone industry: Android developed by Google, and the iPhone of Apple. What interest presents the analysis of this socio-industrial environment? We could say that these ecosystems of developers, especially that of Android, presents a paradox. On one side it is an open source platform, very related to what some called the "hacker ethic", this "do-it-yourself" spirit who reject traditional forms of authority. On the other side, this environment constitutes a relatively coherent organization, structured, centralized around the dominant player that is Google, and crossed by new forms of asymmetries and new power relations, sometimes more important than those rejected by hackers. This work proposes to explore this environment made of multinationals and ecosystems of developers which surround them, to look at their history, the logics that underlie them, the apparatus which structure them

Full textIn the database literature it has been proposed to resort to active integrity constraints in order to restore database integrity. Such active integrity constraints consist of a classical constraint together with a set of preferred update actions that can be triggered when the constraint is violated. In the first part of this thesis, we review the main repairing routes that have been proposed in the literature and capture them by means of Dynamic Logic programs. The main tool we employ for our investigations is the recently introduced logic DL-PA, which constitutes a variant of PDL. We then go on to explore a new, dynamic kind of database repairing whose computational complexity and general properties are compared to the previous established approaches. In the second part of the thesis we leave the propositional setting and pursue to adapt the aforementioned ideas to higher level languages. More specifically, we venture into Description Logics and investigate extensions of TBox axioms by update actions that denote the preferred ways an ABox should be repaired in case of inconsistency with the axioms of the TBox. The extension of the TBox axioms with these update actions constitute new, active TBoxes. We tackle the problem of repairing an ABox with respect to such an active TBox both from a syntactic as well as a semantic perspective. Given an initial ABox, the syntactic approach allows us to construct a set of new ABoxes out of which we then identify the most suitable repairs. On the other hand, for the semantic approach we once again resort to a dynamic logic framework and view update actions, active inclusion axioms and repairs as programs. Given an active TBox aT , the framework allows to check (1) whether a set of update actions is able to repair an ABox according to the active axioms of aT by interpreting the update actions locally and (2) whether an ABox A' is the repair of a given ABox A under the active axioms of aT using a bounded number of computations by interpreting the update actions globally. After discussing the strong points of each direction, we conclude by combining the syntactic and semantic investigations into a cohesive approach

Full textThe evolution of the Internet of Things (IoT) started decades ago as part of the first face of the digital transformation, its vision has further evolved due to a convergence of multiple technologies, ranging from wireless communication to the Internet and from embedded systems to micro-electromechanical systems. As a consequence thereof, IoT platforms are being heavily developed, smart factories are being planned to revolutionize the industry organization and both security and trust requirements are becoming more and more critical. The integration of such technologies within the manufacturing environment and processes in combination with other technologies has introduced the fourth industrial revolution referred to also as Industry 4.0. In this future world machines will talk to machines (M2M) to organize the production and coordinate their actions. However opening connectivity to the external world raises several questions about data and IT infrastructure security that were not an issue when devices and machines were controlled locally and just few of them were connected to some other remote systems. That’s why ensuring a secure communication between heterogeneous and reliable devices is essential to protect exchanged information from being stolen or tampered by malicious cyber attackers that may harm the production processes and put the different devices out of order. Without appropriate security solutions, these systems will never be deployed globally due to all kinds of security concerns. That’s why ensuring a secure and trusted communication between heterogeneous devices and within dynamic and decentralized environments is essential to achieve users acceptance and to protect exchanged information from being stolen or tampered by malicious cyber attackers that may harm the production processes and put the different devices out of order. However, building a secure system does not only mean protecting the data exchange but it requires also building a system where the source of data and the data itself is being trusted by all participating devices and stakeholders. In this thesis our research focused on four complementary issues, mainly (I) the dynamic and trust based management of access over shared resources within an Industry 4.0 based distributed and collaborative system, (ii) the establishment of a privacy preserving solution for related data in a decentralized architecture while eliminating the need to rely on additional third parties, (iii) the verification of the safety, the correctness and the functional accuracy of the designed framework and (iv) the evaluation of the trustworthiness degree of interacting parties in addition to the secure storage and sharing of computed trust scores among them in order to guarantee their confidentiality, integrity and privacy. By focusing on such issues and taking into account the conventional characteristics of both IoT and IoT enabled industries environments, we proposed in this thesis a secure and distributed framework for resource management in Industry 4.0 environments. The proposed framework, enabled by the blockchain technology and driven by peer to peer networks, allows not only the dynamic access management over shared resources but also the distribute governance of the system without the need for third parties that could be their-selves vulnerable to attacks. Besides and in order to ensure strong privacy guarantees over the access control related procedures, a privacy preserving scheme is proposed and integrated within the distributed management framework. Furthermore and in order to guarantee the safety and the functional accuracy of our framework software components, we focused on their formal modeling in order to validate their safety and compliance with their specification. Finally, we designed and implemented the proposal in order to prove its feasibility and analyze its performances

Full textCurrently, software process artefacts are under-considered by the software process modelling and execution community. They are minimally managed. Moreover, the application of the principles of the model driven engineering on software processes have deeply changed the nature and increased the complexity of software artefacts : they become models (model-products hereafter). Taking into account such a complexity is a necessity with a view to optimize model-products management policies. This thesis has focused on the issue of the specification of the relationships between model-products by analysing the importance of the use of those relationships in model-products evolution management during process execution. We therefore have illustrated that using the respective specifications of relationships during process execution optimizes the management of model-products evolution in term of their consistency, their synchronization, and a flexibility in their granularity. Our solution fits in two major points that respectively relate to process modelling and enactment. According to process modelling, we have proposed a meta-model that captures the concepts to use to specify the model-products and the relationships between them. The meta-model takes also into account the details on these relationships as they are useful for an enhancement of used model-products management policies during the execution of the modelled processes. Our approach currently supports the nest and the overlap relationships. According to the process execution point of view, in order to structure the logical entities through which are managed the model-products of a process, we have proposed another meta-model. Such a meta-model therefore specifies process objects that represent model-products and their relationships during process execution. This meta-model also supports the nest and the overlap relationships, in compliance with the first one. The proposition also comprises transformation rules used to map concepts of the two meta-models and therefore to give the possibility of an automatic use of the modelling concepts through the enactment ones. The contributions of the approach are related to model-products management during process enactment. They essentially consist of a systematic synchronization and relational consistency between model-products, their aided creation, a flexibility in the granularity of their use, and their semantic integrity. We finally have prototyped a process modelling and enactment environment that implements our approach

Full textLast years have been marked by a rapid evolution in computer networks and machines used in distributed environments. This evolution has opened up new opportunities for mobile computing. Mobile computing allows a mobile user to access various kinds of information at any time and in any place. However, mobile computing raises the problem of data availability in the presence of disconnections. We distinguish two kinds of disconnections : voluntary disconnections and involuntary disconnections. Traditional middleware are mainly connection-oriented programming environments in which a client must maintain a connection to a server. These middleware are inadequate for mobile computing where the resources are unstable (bandwidth, battery, memory. . . ). In addition, the development of distributed applications converges more and more towards the use of componentoriented middleware that better addresses the application complexity by separating functional and extra-functional concerns using the component/container paradigm. The objective of this work is the disconnection management of component-based applications in mobiles environments. The solution consists in maintaining a logical connection between a client and its servers using the concept of disconnected operation. However, the majority of the existing solutions present an " ad hoc " solutions. Indeed, these solutions do not propose a separation between functional concerns and disconnection management. These solutions do not propose a disconnection-aware approach to design distributed applications that have to work in the presence of disconnections. Moreover, the component-oriented paradigm is rarely invested in disconnection management, this last limitation being due to the newness of this model. In this PhD Thesis, we present MADA, a mobile application development approach. In this approach, disconnection management is taken into account when modelling application at the architectural level. Then, we present a middleware service for the software cache management of mobile terminal. We validate the solution using a prototype implemented in Java, for CORBA component-based application, within the DOMINT platform. We also integrate the disconnection management in the containers. Finally, we propose a specification and a Java/CCM implementation of our container using the extensible container model (ECM) of OpenCCM

Full textThis research deals with the problematic of managing the evolution of industrial systems. First, we define the concept of underlying change in any evolution process and we identify two kinds of Change management having a priori opposite philosophies: Re-engineering and Continuous evolution. This study leads us to conclude that they are, in fact, complementary and thus we shall identify those methods specific to industrial systems analysis and design favouring such a combination. The theoretical concepts relevant to automatic and systemic which complete this study, lead us to propose, in a second part, a model for the management of the evolution of industrial systems. This model is decomposed into three levels: • the “Strategic definition” deals with the performance of the system, • the “Actions definition” focuses on the existing and the future models of the system, • the “Project management” corresponds to an operational level and modifies the system by implementing the changes defined in the two previous levels. Then, this thesis presents a method, based on the proposed model, whose an application is described as a supplement to the research done

We have used a new method proposed by p. Tolla in order to improve the execution's rapidity of simplex method. The convergence of his method has been proved in our thesis. We have given three types of pivotage to improve the numerical stability of forrest and tomlin's method. As to karmarkar's algorithme, we have simplified his demonstration of convergence. A new method "slading function" which is polynomial has been proposed in our study. We have founded a new technic for conversion of solution and two heuristics in order to improve the stability of karmarkar's algorithm

Full textListed companies are characterized by its widely spread shareholders. This increases the distance existing between directors and stakeholders, especially shareholders. A difference of interests may arise between directors' actions and stakeholders' expectations. Directors' actions, managing the company's assets, may then be controlled by those stakeholders, thus controlling the company's management. After preliminaries decision regarding nomination and compensation of the directors, it appears that a preventive control is applied to some of the managerial decisions. One has to check that social interest is preserved, as well as other special and collective interests, such as creditors' interests, employees' interests or even markets' interests. The prerogatives of the directors are then limited. This kind of control is currently spreading, as it allows to prevent some costly conflicts inside the corporate structure. But this ex ante control does not supersede another kind of control, the ex post one, occurring once the decision are applied. This ex post control, when executed by shareholders, depends on their identities and expectations, as various types of shareholders may be identified inside a listed company. When the control allows to identify any violation of the interests followed by the management, or any malfunction inside the company, controlling the management may lead to court cases

Full textAfter an analysis of public accounting information limits, a questionnaire sent to 82 towns is presented, showing the limited and uneven development of management control tools. Explanations for this situation are given, first, by refering to an economic and political model for local government bases and objectives and, then, to a sociological and organizational model for internal operation and control processes. Then, a field study of innovatives approaches is presented for a dozen towns. It shows very different styles of management control. The link between management control styles and means of organizational change is specified and a methodoly is proposed in the field of management control in local governments

Full textSeveral problems overwhelm organizations, but industrial espionage is becoming more and more important. Its consequences are catastrophic, ranging from the loss of colossal sums to the bankruptcy of certain companies. This research work, which is part of the disciplinary field of Management Sciences, particularly management control, aims to understand the process of controlling industrial espionage in organizations by developing a control system of industrial espionage by the management control function. After a literature review and a first wave of semi-directive interviews, which showed the limits of legal protections and management gaps of technical protections against industrial espionage, we constructed a theoretical model of the control process of industrial espionage by the management control function, which puts into interaction the imposed / free figures, the diagnostic / interactive control levers and their tools, and the six readjusted analysis dimensions. Then we developed a system of control of the industrial espionage by determining its tools and specifying its instrumentation in organizations. A second wave of semi-directive interviews was conducted to justify the relevance of this system with professional and academic management control specialists

Full textThe subject of the present study is as multi-faceted as it is complex : the deficient or incorrect actions of the executive board, board of directors and the supervisory board and the sanctioning thereof in German and French corporations. The thesis examines and analyses the most important forms of shareholders' suits regarding management control in German and French law. For German law, the work focuses mainly on averting lawsuits and claims for damages, while for French law the work concentrates on the "action individuelle" as well as on the "action sociale exercée ut universi" and "ut singuli". These rights to sue play an important role in the Corporate Governance of big stock companies. As a remedy under private law they may play a central part in the control of the management and supervisory bodies. The analysis of these rights to sue in Germany and France was undertaken also with a view to the US-American business judgment rule. The study is divided in three parts. In the first part it describes deficient or incorrect actions of the board of directors and the supervisory board and the sanctioning thereof in Germany. Furthermore, it compares German practice with US-American law and its shareholders' derivative suit. In the second part, it focuses on the French law and its regulations. Finally, in the third part, the thesis looks at the subject from an economic point of view and attempt to (positively) explain such rights to sue and to determine (normatively) how such rights should be formulated. The study closes with a summary of the most important insights gained

Full textThe purpose of this research is to describe the impact of the combined use of physical and financial indicators by operational departments - that is, of differenciated information systems - on the latters' control procedures. The criticism aimed at financial data by researchers since the beginning of the 80s, and the limitations they denounced in physical data more recently, constitute the starting point of this reserach. They lead us to question the efficiency of the unificating mission of management control systems, and more specifically that of operational departments working from a distance. In order to tackle this issue, two lines of research have been selected : analysing organisational control mechanisms ; the role of management controllers. After having analysed and reviewed the literature on management control dealing with this issue, several theoretical standpoints have led us to put forward a model of propositions. To test this model, a quantitative survey was carried out by means of a questionnaire, on a sample of 81 firms in the Greater Eastern part of France, together with a qualitative survey carried out over the telephone with 36 companies from the same sample. The results show, above all, that the size of the company plays a major role in the control procedures of operational departments that have differenciated information systems. The study shows that comparatively to smaller forms, larger companies release non-financial indicators of results more frequently, in order to make it easier to identify problems of coordination between operational centres. The complexity of these malfunctions and the delayed release of the indicators may sometimes make it necessary for superiors to intervern, and to justify the intermediary activities of management controllers

Full textA new king of literature has been developping for a few years now, advocating the necessity of implementing formal strategic control devices for maintaining performance in an incertain environmental context. All the works from this literature focus in conclusion on almost no practice of such devices within the entreprises. However, this works are questinable because of showing a simplistic and incomplete vision of the involved process. A more complete work leaning on the principle of field research method and based on a pragmatic conception anables ones to reveal the reality of practical experience which is rather diversified and which comprises variables degrees of sophistication. Three configurations of strategic control practices are identified : the first one gets closer to an "ideal" strategic control device, the second one shows a characteristic signed of transition situation, the third reflects a classic management control system on certain points

Full textIn this thesis, we propose an original approach to process enactment evolution, based on formal management of process deviations. Deviations are defined as operations that violate process constraints. Once a deviation is detected, a deviation-tolerance model attached to the preset process is used to decide whether to accept or to reject the deviation. Detecting deviations consists to compare the enactable process model and the observed process of actual development through a monitoring system of user actions. The observed process is captured in observed process model. His behavioral and dynamic aspects are described in terms of the process elements life cycles. The observed model, is described in terms of current states of process elements, and history of operations performed by human actors. Both models are translated into first-order logic representation. Detecting and analysis of deviations are based on a formal approach exploiting this logical representation. The decision rests on a rules-based tolerance model that expresses decision to make with respect to contexts in which deviations occur. The method relevance lies in its ability to offer two managing deviations methods depending on the enactment context : acceptance of deviations after dynamic adaptation of process model for deviations that are considered as major ones, or mere tolerance, without changing process model for deviations considered as minor ones. Thus, treatment differs depending on the context of the desired evolution of process model. We have validated our approach with a case study that illustrates this approach. A prototype of a PSEE exploiting this approach has been developped

Full textIn a fast moving environment, a global strategic approach is necessary, to surpass the usual distinction between the supply-side point of view (resource based) and the demand-side point of view (positionning based). Strategic management gives an answer to our problematic, by ensuring : 1). An adaptation of the entrepreneurial supply to the various types of demand ; 2). A correct and soft articulation between strategy and operational realizations ; 3). A junction of movement and coherence (which facilitates the adaptation of the structures, the empowerment of human resources and their complete involvement in action for the customer). A model is proposed, called MCVD, which makes the connection between : M. The mode of organization of the process of production - C. The characteristics of the products - V. The capacity and the volume of production - D. The nature and volume of the demand. This model is of some help in strategic decision making and in the piloting of the strategic process. At an end, the vivacity of the firm is preserved by weak signals management (i. E. Strategic piloting plus competitive intelligence). The application of weak signals management to the pearl harbor attack is analysed. In addition, this work proposes : - 11 case studies in various industries, - a survey of strategic practices in 30 firms of great size (in 1989 and 1996)

Full textModelling information security policies is being an important task in many domains. We proposed a new access control system called OrBAC (Organization based access control). This system brings many solutions to the existing access control systems. For instance, OrBAC takes into account the context and is able to represent various kinds of privileges : permission, prohibition and obligation. However, this system does not deal with conflicts due to the joint handling of permission or obligation and prohibition policies. We dealt with the problem of handling conflicts in the OrBAC system, modelled by first order logic knowledge bases. We showed that approaches suggested for handling conflicts in propositionnal knowledge bases are not adapted for inconsistent first order knowledge bases. We proposed an approach in which we weak first order formulas responsible of conflicts

Of this object of search for an integrated system of approaches of control, it is then to position compared to our field of study : the structure of management of social housing within the activity of the social housing and analyse the political dimension of the concept of governance associating the structure of management of social housing to its various actors. In the second part of the research, we propose a conceptualization of our integrated system of approaches of control in four dimensions : strategic, organisational, informational and instrumental. As for the third part of the research, it draws up the stages of implementation and the conditions of success of the management of a integrated system of approaches of contol towards an economic and social governance in the activity of the social housing following the structuring of our project of followed research-action.
