Service Oriented Architectures (SOA) enable dynamic integration of Web Services (WS) to accomplish a user's need. As such, they are sensitive to user errors. This article presents a framework for mitigating the risks of user errors due to changes in the service delivery context. The underlying methodology incorporates usability in the design, testing, deployment and operation of dynamic collaborative WS, so that the error-prone elements of the User Interface (UI) are identified and eliminated. Purpose The purpose of this paper is to discuss the causes for the discrepancy between the utilization of statistical process control (SPC) in services and manufacturing. Furthermore, an approach for integrating customer demands and technical aspects of a service is presented. This research addresses a methodology based on Z and W charts, proposing it for the control of service features. We conducted an experimental evaluation of a mnemonic keypad interface for controlling telecommunications services. Users of the new interface remembered more services and commands than users of the standard interface. However, users did not change their patterns of service use as a result of the new interface. We conclude that the impact of interface design on service use depends partly on the characteristics of users and partly on the characteristics of services.

Abstract Phosphoric acid attack tank floors and walls have historically been lined with acid resistant brick and membrane systems. While such linings have become industry standard, there is less consensus regarding the best way to line the ceilings of these tanks. When properly selected and installed, anchored thermoplastic liner systems effectively protect the ceilings of phosphoric acid attack tanks against corrosion in different service environments.

This paper discusses how to use a new parameter from the CMAS for monitoring and controlling CP without using a reference electrode. Abstract Insoluble materials that create turbidity in cooling water systems can lead to deposition on heat exchange surfaces that operate under severe service conditions. Controlling the level of turbidity and proper dispersant application can minimize deposition. A program has been developed to monitor: turbidity generated by phosphate upsets; deposit monitor results; and exchanger inspections. The effect of two different polymeric dispersants has also been studied. The monitoring program can be used to optimize the dispersant dosage to maximize system deposit control.

Abstract The data obtained from several municipal watermain corrosion studies in the Province of Ontario is presented. This data corroborates the findings of a previous study indicating that the galvanic couple formed by the connection of copper service piping to iron watermains is a principal factor controlling the watermain corrosion rates.1 Soil electrical resistivity is found to be of major importance only where this galvanic couple exists. A simple means of estimating the integrity of a watermain based on soil resistivity and service type is also presented.

Welds made onto in-service pipeline are particularly susceptible to hydrogen cracking because of the fast weld cooling rates that tend to result from the ability of the flowing contents to remove heat from the pipe wall. The most commonly used procedures for controlling the risk of hydrogen cracking rely on the use of a sufficiently high heat input level. Two methods currently exist for predicting required heat input levels for welds made onto in-service pipelines: thermal analysis computer modeling and the heat-sink capacity measurement method. PHMSA report. This project developed and validated tools to assist in integrity assessment and management in both forms of SCC. Because the understanding that underlies integrity management tools was most comprehensive for high-pH SCC, development targeted NN-pH SCC, with work on high pH SCC being more application-oriented. To broaden the utility of the deliverables, this project targeted technology in the context of generic modules applicable to both forms of cracking, recognizing their key difference lies in the mechanisms of cracking and how that impacts their kinetics and pipeline suscepti

Abstract:
Strong, durable concrete is key to resilient, long-lasting transportation infrastructure—especially in the face of climate change. This project explores innovative strategies for predicting and enhancing the service life of concrete in pavement and bridge systems, addressing the pressing need for sustainable transportation infrastructure. As concrete is pivotal to the durability and resilience of such structures, its environmental impact demands urgent attention. This project aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions throughout their lifecycle by extending the service life of concrete pavements

The US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) uses two metrics to evaluate maintenance for coastal navigation projects: cargo tonnage at the associated port and the controlling depth in the channel relative to the authorized channel depth. These are calculated through normal business practices and describe the relative importance (tonnage) of the port and the operating condition (controlling depth) of the channel. They are incorporated into a risk-based decision framework that directs funds to locations where channel conditions have deteriorated. Using Automatic Identification System (AIS) vessel-pos

The US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) traditionally uses two metrics to evaluate the maintenance of coastal navigation projects: tonnage at the associated port (representing relative importance) and the controlling depth in the channel (representing operating condition). These are incorporated into a risk-based decision framework directing funds where channel conditions have deteriorated and the disrupted tonnage potential is the highest. However, these metrics fail to capture shipper demand for the maintained depth service provided by the USACE through dredging. Using automatic identificatio
