Abstract Alloy performance is considered following laboratory exposure to synthetic molten slags developed from vanadium pentoxide alone, or as an 80-20% mixture of vanadium pentoxide and sodium sulfate. Test samples were exposed isothermally for times up to 100 hours at 900 C (1652 F) under flowing oxygen. The performance is characterized in terms of corrosion damage as determined from gravimetric, metallographic and conventional analytical procedures.
