Abstract:
For a real- or complex-valued continuous function f over R2+:= [0,1) x [0,1), we denote its integral over [0,u] x [0,v] by s(u,v) and its (C,1, 1) mean, the average of s(u,v) over [0,u] x [0,v], by ?(u,v). The other means (C,1,0) and (C; 0; 1) are defined analogously. We introduce the concepts of backward differences and the Kronecker identities in different senses for double integrals over R2+. We give onesided and two-sided Tauberian conditions based on the difference between double integral of s(u, v) and its means in different senses for Ces?ro summability methods of double integrals over [0,u] x [0,v] under which convergence of s(u,v) follows from integrability of s(u,v) in different senses.

Let H(U) be the linear space of holomorphic functions defined on the unit disk U endowed with the topology of normal (locally uniform) convergence. For a subset E ⊂ H(U) we denote by Ē the closure of E with respect to the above topology. The topological dual space of H(U) is denoted by H′(U).Let D, 0 ∊ D, be a simply connected domain in C. The unique univalent conformal mapping ϕ from U onto D, normalized by ϕ(0) = 0 and ϕ′(0) > 0 will be called “the Riemann Mapping onto D”. Let S be the set of all normalized univalent functions

Abstract:
Major changes are coming to U.S. financial accounting and accounting education as U. S. generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and international financial reporting standards (IFRS) converge within the next few years. In 2008, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) published a proposed road map for the potential convergence of U. S. companies to IFRS beginning with large filers for fiscal years ending on or after December 15, 2014. On February 24, 2010, the SEC issued a new timeline which would require IFRS for U.S. reporting in 2015 or 2016 at the earliest (Derstine and Bremser, 2010). Obviously, this change to IFRS requires an adjustment in U. S. accounting education. The primary purpose of this paper is to examine the current state of accounting curricula and IFRS. An examination was made of both required and elective international accounting courses offered to students in the top 20 undergraduate, graduate and doctoral programs. These programs were identified by the Public Accounting Report in its October 31, 2009 issue. It was conjectured that the top programs would take the lead in IFRS education. The universities online websites and catalogues were examined for program requirements and course titles. The results show a paucity of accounting coursework related to international accounting and IFRS.

Let π be a probability density proportional to exp - U(x) in S. A convergent Markov process to π(x) may be regarded as a "conceptual" algorithm. Assume that S is a finite set. Let X0,X1,…,Xn,… be a Markov chain with transition matrix P and invariant probability π. Under suitable condition on P, it is known that [Formula: see text] converges to π(f) and the corresponding asymptotic variance v(f, P) depends only on f and P. It is natural to consider criteria vw(P) and va(P), defined respectively by maximizing and averaging v(f, P) over f. Two families of transition matrices are considered. There are four problems to be investigated. Some results and conjectures are given. As for the continuum case, to accelerate the convergence a family of diffusions with drift ∇U(x) + C(x) with div(C(x)exp - U(x)) = 0 is considered.

Abstract Let G be a noncompact semi-simple Lie group with Iwasawa decomposition {G=KAN} . For a semigroup {S\subset G} with nonempty interior we find a domain of convergence of the Helgason–Laplace transform {I_{S}(\lambda,u)=\int_{S}e^{\lambda(\mathsf{a}(g,u))}\,dg} , where dg is the Haar measure of G, {u\in K} , {\lambda\in\mathfrak{a}^{\ast}} , {\mathfrak{a}} is the Lie algebra of A and {gu=ke^{\mathsf{a}(g,u)}n\in KAN} . The domain is given in terms of a flag manifold of G written {\mathbb{F}_{\Theta(S)}} called the flag type of S, where {\Theta(S)} is a subset of the simple system of roots. It is proved that {I_{S}(\lambda,u)<\infty} if λ belongs to a convex cone defined from {\Theta(S)} and {u\in\pi^{-1}(\mathcal{D}_{\Theta(S)}(S))} , where {\mathcal{D}_{\Theta(S)}(S)\subset\mathbb{F}_{\Theta(S)}} is a B-convex set and {\pi:K\rightarrow\mathbb{F}_{\Theta(S)}} is the natural projection. We prove differentiability of {I_{S}(\lambda,u)} and apply the results to construct of a Riemannian metric in {\mathcal{D}_{\Theta(S)}(S)} invariant by the group {S\cap S^{-1}} of units of S.

Let T,S : A U B ? A U B be mappings such that T(A) ? B,T(B)? A and S(A) ? A,S(B)?B. Then the pair (T,S) of mappings defined on A[B is called cyclic-noncyclic pair, where A and B are two nonempty subsets of a metric space (X,d). A coincidence best proximity point p ? A U B for such a pair of mappings (T,S) is a point such that d(Sp,Tp) = dist(A,B). In this paper, we study the existence and convergence of coincidence best proximity points in the setting of convex metric spaces. Abstract We investigate the asymptotic properties of the transient queue length process Q(t)=max(Q(0)+X(t)-ct, sup0≤s≤t(X(t)-X(s)-c(t-s))), t≥0, in the Gaussian fluid queueing model, where the input process X is modeled by a centered Gaussian process with stationary increments and c>0 is the output rate. More specifically, under some mild conditions on X and Q(0)=x≥0, we derive the exact asymptotics of πx,Tu(u)=ℙ(Q(Tu)>u) as u→∞. The interplay between u and Tu leads to two qualitatively different regimes: short-time horizon when Tu is relatively small with respect to u, and moderate- or long-time horizon when Tu is asymptotically much larger than u. As a by-product, we discuss the implications for the speed of convergence to stationarity of the model studied.

Abstract:
A computational framework is proposed to path follow the periodic solutions of nonlinear spatially continuous systems and more general coupled multiphysics problems represented by systems of partial differential equations with time-dependent excitations. The set of PDEs is cast in first order differential form (in time) u˙ = f(u,s,t;c) where u(s,t) is the vector collecting all state variables including the velocities/time rates, s is a space coordinate (here, one-dimensional systems are considered without lack of generality for the space dependence) and t denotes time. The vector field f depends, in general, not only on the classical state variables (such as positions and velocities) but also on the space gradients of the leading unknowns. The space gradients are introduced as part of the state variables. This is justified by the mathematical and computational requirements on the continuity in space up to the proper differential order of the space gradients associated with the unknown position vector field. The path following procedure employs, for the computation of the periodic solutions, only the evaluation of the vector field f. This part of the path following procedure within the proposed combined scheme was formerly implemented by Dankowicz and coworkers in a MATLAB software package called COCO. The here proposed procedure seeks to discretize the space dependence of the variables using finite elements based on Lagrangian polynomials which leads to a discrete form of the vector field f. A concurrent bifurcation analysis is carried out by calculating the eigenvalues of the monodromy matrix. A hinged-hinged nonlinear beam subject to a primary-resonance harmonic transverse load or to a parametric-resonance horizontal end displacement is considered as a case study. Some primary-resonance frequency-response curves are calculated along with their stability to assess the convergence of the discretization scheme. The frequency-response curves are shown to be in close agreement with those calculated by direct integration of the PDEs through the FE software called COMSOL Multiphysics. Besides primary-resonance direct forcing conditions, also parametric forcing causing the principal parametric resonance of the lowest two bending modes is considered through construction of the associated transition curves. The proposed approach integrates algorithms from the finite element and bifurcation domains thus enabling an accurate and effective unfolding of the bifurcation and post-bifurcation scenarios of nonautonomous PDEs with the underlying structures.

The present study compares measured and computed heat transfer coefficients for high speed boundary layer nozzle flows under engine Reynolds-number conditions (U∞ = 230 ÷ 880 m/s, Re* = 0.37 ÷ 1.07 · 106). Experimental data have been obtained by heat transfer measurements in a two-dimensional, non-symmetric, convergent-divergent nozzle. The nozzle wall is convectively cooled using water passages. The coolant heat transfer data and nozzle surface temperatures are used as boundary conditions for a three-dimensional finite-element code which is employed to calculate the temperature distribution inside the nozzle wall. Heat transfer coefficients along the hot gas nozzle wall are derived from the temperature gradients normal to the surface. The results are compared with numerical heat transfer predictions using the low Reynolds-number k-ε turbulence model by Lam and Bremhorst. Influence of compressibility in the transport equations for the turbulence properties is taken into account by using the local averaged density. The results confirm that this simplification leads to good results for transonic and low supersonic flows.

Abstract:
Abstract High fidelity velocity field experimental data in a liquid metal plenum is presented and compared with numerical simulations. While work has already been established for fluids like air and water, research on low Pr fluids (Pr ≪ 1) (e.g. liquid metals) has fewer experimental data sets with validation-quality data. Work in advanced reactors using liquid metal coolant requires validated numerical simulations for safety analyses. The Gallium Thermal-hydraulic Experiment (GaTE) facility is outfitted with acoustic backscattering measurement techniques to generate the high fidelity distributed flow field data in a liquid metal plenum (a 1/20th scale of the Department of Energy’s sodium cooled Advanced Burner Test Reactor design). The high spatial and temporal resolution of the sensors are required to capture the fluctuations of velocity to allow a more direct comparison to the numerical simulations. For these simulations the coupled mass and momentum equations under the large eddy simulation (LES) framework were solved with the wall-adapting local eddy-viscosity (WALE) model for sub-grid scale formulations. Since the temperature transients of interest for reactor safety have a period of about a minute in the GaTE system, there may not be enough time to allow statistical tools to check one-to-one correspondence. So the data collection period for both data sets was extended to allow convergence of the mean and a larger sample size for other statistics during system steady-state, isothermal tests. Two characteristic velocities of the plenum inlet barrel were investigated (U = 40, 60 mm/s; Re = 7,000, 11,000). Probability distributions show good agreement between experiment and simulation with the difference only in the low-probability tails that LES is not expected to simulate. The time averaged mean axial distribution of the vertical velocity also shows good agreement between the two setups.
