Abstract:
Technological developments also affect the media industry, namely journalistic and editorial management practices, to affect human resource management. The impact of media convergence on human resources is the increasing workload of journalists and the increasing qualification of HR recruitment in the form of understanding technological advances. This research aims to find out the policy of media convergence in bringing changes to the human resource management process of Lahat Pos Group, one of the local media organizations in South Sumatera Province, Indonesia. This research uses qualitative descriptive approach methods. Data collection techniques are in-depth interviews and in-person observation. Based on the study results, Lahat Pos Group uses the newsroom 3.0 model; the newsgathering and news writing process are convergent, namely, in Lahat Pos Group, one management and one newsroom. In Lahat Pos Group analysis and classification are not used due to the absence of significant differences. The recruitment stage of Lahat Pos Group continues to use the means of tests, selection, interviews, training, and internships until journalists get an assessment to be a benchmark for compensation to be received.

Abstract Online journalism is negotiated and renegotiated in the newsroom of Journalen, the training website for students in journalism at Oslo and Akershus University College of Applied Sciences. Using quantitative and qualitative methods, the paper examines three spring terms of online news production by journalism students, particularly looking at sources, links and their multimedia news production. The findings are compared to the students’ professional peers in four news sites in the same period. All five sites are moving towards a convergent news modality. But the students tend to use more sources than their professional peers.

Abstract:
The convergence of information communication technologies (ICTs) in news-making processes has changed the nature of news production in post-Arab Spring Egypt. Several newsrooms have integrated ICTs into their daily routines to develop their content and reconnect with their audiences. Although on the surface this seems a positive development, it appears that today, just a few years after integrating ICTs, Egyptian newsrooms are lagging behind. This study examines the utilization of ICTs – especially social media – in three Egyptian newsrooms. Three waves of questionnaires in 2012, 2014/2015 and 2018 which constitute a longitudinal survey of ICT convergence across the three newsrooms. The questionnaires’ repetition of cross-sectional questions allowed the author to measure changes in newsrooms’ adoption of ICTs over this seven-year span. In short, this study measures how newsroom culture has changed in relation to ICTs, how newsroom management views ICTs and the growing role of social media in newsroom operations.

Abstract:
Convergence is a deep integration of knowledge, tools, and all relevant areas of human activities. As an inevitable condition, convergence has also changed a lot of aspects of mass media at the international, national, and local levels. This study elaborates how the local radios in Cirebon, namely Sindangkasih FM, Suara Gratia FM, and Cirebon Radio, are adapting to the convergence culture. This study seeks to demonstrate how the convergence culture can affect private broadcast media, which are not in the epicentrum of media in Indonesia. This study indicates that these three private radios in Cirebon have tried to adapt to the convergence culture in minimally three aspects, namely structural, information coverage, and news presentation or storytelling convergence. The structural convergence happened at the organizational structure of the radio, in which more direct and fluid coordination in the newsgathering and writing processes is applied. At the news coverage level, reporters and scriptwriters are responsible for managing news content for old radio broadcasts and new online media as well. At the news presentation level, the news is not only broadcasted but also reported on new online channels, such as websites and social media. These convergences have further created a more convergent newsroom, including integrating journalism workflows, applying multiskilled journalism and resource sharing, using various technological tools, creating interactivity with the audience, and expanding the audience reach. Abstract:
Media organizations are immersed in a significant process of technological, professional and business restructuring driven by multimedia convergence and the impact of social media. Regardless of their size and scope, they are becoming increasingly aware of the need to enhance their multiplatform delivery strategies and respond more closely to their audiences’ needs and interests. Professionals working for these organizations therefore must cope with, and learn to thrive in, convergent media environments that call for a high level of cooperative effort and multitasking. These requirements seem to be even higher with regard to online journalism, a sector exposed to continual technological change and oriented towards the development of content in a variety of formats. In the light of this scenario and the recent debates regarding the best way to keep journalism training up to date, this article offers a subject-based case study to examine the challenges involved in incorporating convergence and social media into journalism university curricula. By means of a mix of data methods, the study focuses on the planning, practices and ramifications of a specific course on online journalism newswriting and reporting. The conclusions provide a critical discussion of the objectives and tools used by educators in the classroom and discuss the appropriateness of courses devoted to online journalism for preparing future journalists to cope with daily newsroom challenges resulting from media convergence and social media content production.

Abstract:
Changes in the consumption pattern of public information media ultimately have an impact on the dimming of the existence of the print media industry. The dynamics of technological change and competition are also felt by regional print media with a smaller market scale. Convergence is an alternative solution for regional print media to adapt to changes that occur, one of which is Solopos. In practice, the application of convergence in Solopos results in a reorganization of media management and newsroom processing. Thus directing the media to the concept of newsroom. This study aims to describe the application of newsroom convergence in the Solopos regional media newsroom. Descriptive qualitative research method was carried out by means of semi-structured interviews, observation, and documentation studies for data collection. Informants in this research included managing editors, print content managers, online content managers, Solopos reporter. Through this research, it has been found that convergence newsroom in the Solopos newsroom is carried out by implementing online-first, developing Content Management System (CMS) Solopos as a news control center, integrating the role of journalists between platforms in journalistic workflows and unifying the placement of newsrooms between platforms into a single newsroom. This research concludes that the editors in Solopos are currently implementing convergence with the newsroom 2.0: cross media newsroom since the beginning of 2022 to the journalistic workflow and editorial management system. The maximum unification of the roles and duties of journalists between platforms only occurs at the content gathering stage and is not yet fully controlled centrally.

Abstract:
This research study looks into newsroom convergence in Pakistan and looks at the newsrooms of four major newspapers: Dawn, Jang, The Nation, and Express. The study's goal is to discover how newsrooms are coping with digital innovations. Purposive sampling was used by the researcher to choose the four newsrooms and staff members, and observation and interviews were used as the research methods. The study found that editors in the newsrooms were concerned about the future of print media in the digital age and mulling ways to generate revenue for the print media for their survival, with some suggesting setting up paywalls on exclusive content on the newspapers’ websites and using local modes of payment such as EasyPaisa, JazzCash, etc for the readers. Overall, it is believed that convergence has led to better journalism in terms of the ease in production and distribution of content in the media, while it has also led to reduction of costs for the newspaper owners.

Abstract:
The efforts of today’s journalism to win back the audiences’ trust and meet the expectations of audiences, while remaining committed to high-quality journalism, has been reflected in organizational and cultural changes in newsrooms. The digitalization of news production processes meant developing new newsroom organization models and news routines. As television is still the most trusted media in Croatia, this study focuses on three Croatian television newsrooms – the public broadcaster HRT, the commercial broadcaster Nova TV, and the most-watched non-terrestrial news channel N1 – and explores their different models of organization and how they have adapted to a transformed media environment and audience expectations. For this, a series of exploratory semi-structured interviews are conducted with a total of 28 journalists and editors. This study examines newsroom practices, the efficiency of newsroom integration or convergence implementation (if any), and the attempts to produce and distribute original innovative content across platforms. The study also tackles the main opportunities and obstacles that discourage or encourage them to produce what they perceive as quality stories and build engagement and trust in journalism. Findings point to three distinct newsroom integration and organization formats shaped by several important factors – past newsroom traditions, technology, ownership (Nova TV), foreign investors, international consultants, politics (HRT) and ultimately the format of the channel (N1). This is predominantly reflected in the news production process, or more precisely, in the ways editors and journalists create and shape the daily news program. Differences are identified in workflow between journalists employed by the public service broadcaster and its counterparts.

Abstract:
The purpose of the research is to reveal the meaning of media fusion as a technology and mechanism of the television ecosystem transformation in the first quarter of the 21st century. The research methodology. The article tested, firstly, the ecosystem approach that helps to identify television as an ecosystem and one of the important segments of the digital audio-visual landscape on the modern stage that is in a transformational stage, characterised by fusional, co-evolutionary and convergent processes between traditional and new media, and, secondly, the methodology of media archaeological research, according to which traditional media still make up a significant part of news consumption among the elderly, but however new media have changed the paradigm of development and functioning of the TV industry, pushing the former to deconstruct models of managing and republishing popular content on social, mobile and digital (non-traditional) platforms. The scientific novelty is that, for the first time, attention is focused on the importance of media-fusion technology in the convergence of traditional and new media within the modern digital audio-visual landscape and the phenomenon of media fusion as a mechanism of the television ecosystem transformation in the 21st century is conceptualised. Conclusions. It was proved that media fusion as a mechanism of the television ecosystem transformation is becoming a critical tendency, especially in the example of the big video model, and is opening new possibilities for television media development through the transition of traditional television to platform integration with new media. Media fusion technology has also resulted in a change in focus. It approaches the media and delivery methods of television (multimedia) content, models of working with the audience (“user-generated content”), restructuring of the newsroom (“news disc” and “media director”), and a change in the production model, turning it into a chain of “planning” for all formats.

Abstract:
This article explores how the main Spanish newsrooms structure news production in the digital convergence from a quantitative approach. The data come from a nationwide survey applied to 30 editors-in-chief of Spain’s leading newspapers, radios, televisions, and digital natives. We study the newsroom size, news sections weight, freelancers, news agencies, and gender with multivariable analysis. We found that the gender gap has been overcome, and women are mostly in newsrooms (61%). Despite progress, women continue to have higher levels of unemployment and keep facing a glass ceiling in accessing the top positions. They just account for only 6.6% of the editors-in-chief in the sample. Likewise, we found a correlation between female journalists and the Society news section size. Findings suggest a specific news production organization by analyzing newsroom journalistic practice. Politics (23%) is the main news section and in decreasing order of importance: Society (18.5%), Business (16.5%), Sport (16.5%), International (14%) and Culture (11.5%). The average newsroom has between 101 and 300 journalists, with less than 20% freelancers. The media industry demands a polyvalent journalist. Skills, abilities, and competencies that different professionals previously developed now converge in a single professional with a polyvalent and multitasking profile. We found that it is a widespread journalistic practice in most TV outlets for reporters to work for several daily editions of newscasts (midday and night) and even provide news content for other organization shows. Journalists no longer work for a specific section, not even for a news show, but they now work for the entire organization.

Abstract:
The existing literature broadly suggests that newsrooms are adapting to the media convergence world at the cost of traditional quality journalism. However, based on my ethnographic study of the Beijing News, I propose a convergence and de-convergence model of journalistic practice. The model explains how one Chinese newspaper preserves the legacy of critical journalism, on the one hand, while negotiating the challenges of adapting to the converging trends on the other. I argue that a well-established organizational culture and a working routine are crucial in the newspaper’s transformation, which makes it impossible to redesign the newsroom and redefine journalism with technology alone. Moreover, the article calls for a more nuanced understanding of the transformation of legacy media in the digital age, especially considering a non-Western context. I argue that the Chinese newspaper’s response to technological and economic impacts brought by the Internet is in fact mediated by political concerns.

Abstract:
Background: Competition between traditional media and social media in reaching the attention of the audience has become a necessity. The presence of social media has changed the pattern of media use in society in seeking entertainment and information. To anticipate these changes, television must converge with social media. Convergence is believed not only to be able to maintain the existence of television but also to increase the number of audiences. Purpose: This study aims to identify and explain the management problem in the process of convergence between social media and television at the IVM (Indosiar Visual Mandiri) television editorial team. Methods: This study uses a qualitative approach and a single case study method. The object of the research is the convergence process between social media and television at the IVM television editorial team; the research subjects are informants consisting of the editor-in-chief, news production manager, reporters, and social media managers. The convergence analysis used in this paper was the journalistic convergence model from Pavlik, which looks at the convergence model in newsrooms, newsgathering, and news content. Results: This study indicates that the convergence of social media and television at the IVM television editorial team does not occur in the newsroom model and only occurs not routinely in the news gathering model and content model. However, in order to converge with social media, television broadcasting encountered problems from the management side (organizational structure, work system, and technology infrastructure). Implications: The convergence of newsrooms between television and social media at IVM can be said to have failed due to the non-integration of social media management with IVM editorial staff. Due to the absence of an integrated social media team within the editorial team, there is a lack of handling of interactivity between social media followers and IVM editors.

The MetroLima tabloid has converged by combining two media from print media with internet-based technology, thus creating a new identity, namely MetroLima.Com and MetroLima TV, as well as YouTube and Instagram channels. This step was taken to face business competition and the demands of the times which are all technology-based and of course will adapt to the digital industry. The purpose of this research is to find out how the convergence in the MetroLima Tabloid maintains print media in the current digital era by using technogenic practices in the media amid the Covid-19 pandemic, and how journalistic convergence is applied to the MetroLima tabloid. This study uses a qualitative approach method. Data collection techniques by observation and interviews as well as documentation, the selected informants are editor-in-chief and readers. The results of the study show the newsrom 3.0 convergence model where the news gathering process and content are carried out by one journalist and then to be distributed to all MetroLima Depok tabloid platforms, MetroLimaNews and MetroLima TV as well as MetroLima Depok tabloid social media. The newsroom model is to streamline human resources and summarize work mechanisms. MetroLima tabloid performs convergence using E Grant's theory which refers to 3 dimensions of convergence.

Abstract:
In Indonesia, mainstream media industries are facing numerous challenges in applying media convergence, including the media that has been established for years, such as Tempo and Pikiran Rakyat, which have experienced the hurdles and even failure in adopting media convergence. Meanwhile, Kedaulatan Rakyat, as the oldest local print media company in Indonesia, also converged and transformed its institution through media multiplatform diversification to answer the challenge of industry 4,0. The research aimed to interpret and describe the media converge conducted by Kedaulatan Rakyat. The research method used was case-study and with in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation as the data collection. The research found that Kedaulatan Rakyat tried to answer the development of technology by adopting media convergence. The convergence applied was newsroom 3.0 or integrated newsroom. However, Kedaulatan Rakyat exercised an inaccurate strategy in executing its newsroom convergence 3.0, namely by preserving conservative traditions. After abandoning newsroom convergence, Kedaulatan Rakyat performed content-sharing activity and deep and shallow strategy. However, couple with the landscape of journalism of Kedaulatan Rakyat that had not met the criteria of multi-tasking and inequality and role distribution among media, the new activities also did work optimally. In light of that, the preservation of conservation traditions in media companies should be considered as a bar of media convergence adoption.

Abstract:
Digital journalism studies have done little in terms of studying longitudinally the interrelationships between emerging technology and convergent news practices. This study addresses that void by using a sensemaking approach to examine how emerging technology was appropriated and enacted in the convergent news activities of newsworkers, and how they made sense of the emerging technologies over two and a half years. Our study analyzes two newsrooms in Singapore: 1) a digital-first legacy newspaper, and 2) an independent digital-only news startup. This article employs the Infotendencias Group’s (2012) analytical framework and its four dimensions of news convergence: i) business, ii) professional, iii) technological, and iv) contents. Additionally, it proposes and employs a fifth dimension: v) audience-centric engagement. The fifth dimension is based on the concept of “measurable journalism” (Carlson, 2018), analyzing how its actors influence the relationship between newsrooms and their audiences. This study builds on two rounds of in-depth interviews conducted from end-2015 to mid-2016, and again in 2018. Our findings show that audience-centric-engagement practices are observed in all four dimensions of convergent news activities of each news organization, and leads to three main conclusions: 1) the growing significance of <em>audience-centric engagement</em>, 2) an emergence of a <em>collaboration culture</em>, and 3) the salience of <em>platform counterbalancing</em>.

PSM policy documents aim at interactive audience engagement, but production practices show many limitations to achieve this. This article studies how PSM policy is translated into practice, by analysing the newsroom management strategies about audience engagement. In-depth interviews were conducted with managers at different levels of the Flemish public service company VRT. Results show that managers primarily aim at immersive engagement through newsroom convergence and VRT brands. They value interactive engagement as well, but those experiments remain vulnerable. Newsroom management strategies are closely based on practices and audience behaviour, while there is a much larger distance with broader VRT policy.

Abstract:
Kata Kunci: de-convergence newsroom, konvergensi media, Tempo, social construction of technology.

Abstract:
This study aimed to determine the characteristics of ‘newspaper-led convergence’ with broadcast stations by examining how convergence affects the production and distribution of news content. Newspaper-led convergence with broadcast stations occurs in converged newsrooms, where newspapers have superior overall abilities to broadcast stations; thus, one-sided help from newspaper to broadcast stations is more typical than vice versa. This study incorporated both surveys and in-depth interviews with journalists from three South Korean multimedia groups that have maintained newspaper-led convergence since late 2011. It has been approximately 3 years since these convergences; thus, this study outlined characteristics of the initial stage of convergence. The results indicated several asymmetries in terms of workload perceptions, multiple skills, cultural clash, and content quality among different media reporters. Unlike previous studies, psychological and cultural issues were not found to be obstacles to newspaper-led convergence. Based on these findings, this study concluded with suggestions for media firms that aim to converge newsrooms.

Abstract:
Convergence occurs because of the development of the internet, social media, and digital technology. In the realm of journalism, convergence refers to the practice of producing, distributing, and consuming content for multiple platforms in the form of text, photos, and videos by a single newsroom. The development of technology then gave birth to many disturbances and possibilities. Convergence challenges the media industry's already stable business model to adapt to changes. The purpose of this study is to discuss and compare how the adaptation and application of convergence that the local media "Pikiran Rakyat" and AyoBandung.com have tried to use using convergence theory in Rich Gordon's media organization. This research uses a case study method with a comparative qualitative approach that tries to explain how the application of convergence to "Pikiran Rakyat" and AyoBandung.com and compares how the two media put it into practice. The results showed that; the ownership of "Pikiran Rakyat" and AyoBandung.com adapted convergence by creating media groups and targeting local media as branches or media partners; on tactics, "Pikiran Rakyat" and AyoBandung.com cooperate in news creation with branches or partners and other media, both media focus on programmatic advertising as a source of income; on the structure, "Pikiran Rakyat" and AyoBandung.com implement newsroom 3.0; in gathering information, the journalists of Pikiran Rakyat and AyoBandung.com in carrying out their coverage only required to bring a smartphone; at the presentation, "Pikiran Rakyat" and AyoBandung.com carried out the action of packaging content to various platforms.

Abstract:
Media convergence and growing financial pressure on the journalistic field have triggered significant changes in newsmaking cultures across the world. This article examines the challenges of media convergence in the newsroom of Valor Econômico, the main economic newspaper in Brazil. In particular, it explores how the introduction in 2013 of Valor Pro, a real time news service oriented to the financial market, changed newsmaking practices at Valor Econômico. The introduction of Valor Pro meant that journalists from the whole newsroom had to report news simultaneously for three platforms: the real time service, the online website and the printed paper. This shift not only intensified journalists’ workloads and altered the manufacture of news, but also increased financial pressure on the paper’s agenda. I argue that this shift – from producing news for the public towards producing news for the market – cannot be explained solely with reference to traditional political economic factors such as ideological decisions at editorial level and the structural properties of the Brazilian media sphere. Instead, drawing on resources from cultural sociology and from science and technology studies, I provide a richer explanation that acknowledges the impact of technological innovation, the shifting nature of news values, and the agency of journalists themselves. This article elaborates on seven months of ethnographic fieldwork in Valor Econômico’s newsroom in São Paulo between 2013 and 2015 and contributes to the literature on cultural sociology, media studies and science and technology studies.

Abstract:
The Internet convulsed journalism and created new press models based on budgets radically different from those that traditionally shaped the performance of the profession. Although at first the newspapers created different work structures for paper and web media, the final decision of the journalistic companies was to create a single newsroom for paper and web media. This article investigates if from the theory of Communication, and especially from the works of McLuhan, this decision is or is not justified in a correct way.

Abstract:
This research aims to assess Lebanese media organizations’ and journalists’ readiness and adaptation to the new digital era requirements. Journalism has always been affected by technology. Adopting new information and communications technology has obliged changes in journalistic practices and led to new business models and journalistic practices. For example, implementing Newsroom Computer Systems (NRCs) in media companies has led to radical changes in the departments of these organizations, and in particular in the newsrooms. The journalists in newsrooms are the human factor that is considered an essential element in this change. It touched on the depths of productivity and the mode of journalistic work. In the new era of media convergence, journalists are called upon to follow this trend (modern journalism) and become more versatile, where their work becomes streamlined and redesigned. The new and more flexible journalistic practices emerging in newspaper and television production, in combination with online journalism, have a profound effect on the role of journalists and their competencies requirements. Having multi competencies is explained by mastering the basic rules (writing, etc.) in the journalism profession and digital knowledge related to this profession (visualizing data, using the digital tools necessary for work, etc.).
This study uses quantitative, descriptive, and deductive approaches supported by a structured survey questionnaire. The sample in this research constituted 96 respondent journalists selected conveniently. Data were analyzed descriptively and reported in charts for clarity. Results show that from an overall analysis, Lebanese media organizations and journalists are moderately prepared to deal with the digital era requirements. Most of the research variables scored between 40 to 50% in terms of preparedness and functionality during the digital transformation era. The research implications show that in Lebanon, as elsewhere in the media industry, the human factor’s digital culture plays an essential role in the advancement of the companies towards the digital environment. In the Lebanese organizations’ case, the economic and monetary crisis factors besides the human factor, have affected the technical implementation and the digital transformation of the media outlets. In this media landscape, the role of academic institutions (i.e., universities and research centers) must be proactive to define the new set of digital and journalistic skills required and needed to enhance the transformation towards the digital multitasking and cross-platform profiles needed to adopt the digital mindset effectively and efficiently.

Abstract:
This paper, based on a national survey, examines the importance newspaper photo editors place on digital imaging and traditional photography competencies, and it looks at the implications for the training and hiring of journalists. It concludes that the shift from chemical to digital processing has led to a relative lack of concern among photo editors about the need for chemical darkroom skills. Many journalism programs, however, continue to focus on those skills. It finds that new technical skills, such as the use of digital cameras and the web, are growing in importance as are skills that reflect convergence of photo jobs with others within the newsroom, such as design and graphics. But photo editors say the key skill that reflects cross-media convergence - video - is unimportant now and only slightly more important for the near future.

In this essay, we describe modular production of television news, established at the University of Georgia, one of the leading journalism programs in the United States, in the scope of its experience-based learning efforts. The new method of producing television news assumes the innovative way of combining live and prerecorded segments of traditionally “all live” television newscasts to encourage proficient dissemination of the news content on multiple platforms and focus journalistic work more fully on the editorial process of news production. The findings are discussed in light of situational learning theories and Parkinson’s Law of time management, as well as benefits for student learning.

Abstract:
This study examines the transformation of journalistic practices in response to digital media developments, focusing on Sriwijaya Post and Sripoku.com. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through interviews and observations with journalists at both the field and editorial levels. The findings reveal that media convergence has significantly impacted journalistic workflows, necessitating journalists to adopt multimedia skills, including video production, real-time reporting, and social media engagement. This transformation involves structural and strategic newsroom changes to facilitate cross-platform content production. As part of a regional media network, Sriwijaya Post and Sripoku.com have embraced digital platforms for content delivery and as a primary revenue stream, particularly through services such as Google AdSense. The study contributes to a deeper understanding of how regional media in Indonesia navigate the challenges of digital convergence while maintaining journalistic integrity and sustaining their role in a rapidly evolving media ecosystem.
