Abstract:
Lo studio analizza la convergenza della produttivita del lavoro in 259 regioni NUTS-2 dell'EU-27 tra il 1995 ed il 2007, confrontando le risposte del modello soloviano proposto da Mankiw et al. (1992) e di una sua estensione. Per le stime si e utilizzato un modello econometrico basato sui filtri spaziali con caratteristiche analoghe alla Geographically Weighted Regression (GWR). Questa tecnica consente di stimare dei parametri di convergenza differenziati per ogni regione e di gestire sia la presenza di spillover spaziali, sia le differenze strutturali presenti nelle economie delle regioni. I risultati indicano che i tassi di convergenza globale stimati sono equiparabili a quelli ottenuti in molti dei precedenti studi, mentre i coefficienti locali aiutano ad interpretare in maniera piů realistica i percorsi di crescita delle regioni.

Il paper esamina se, nel passaggio alla società della conoscenza, esistono le condizioni per un recupero di legittimazione sociale da parte della pianificazione urbana e territoriale: condizioni che consistono nella convergenza tra le istanze etiche proprie di ogni intervento regolatore e il gioco degli interessi inerente al modello di sviluppo in atto. L'esame indica che vi è spazio per il formarsi di tale convergenza, considerato il carattere specificatamente locale dei processi dialogici di formazione della conoscenza che stanno alla base della creatività e dell'innovazione.

Il lavoro proposto mira ad analizzare la "similarità " e la possibile convergenza dei consumi alimentari tra gli Stati membri dell'Unione Europea nel decennio 1993-2003 attraverso i dati di fonte Fao (Food and Agricolture Organization) e relativi ai consumi lordi delle seguenti tipologie di prodotti: cereali, carni, pesce, latte, formaggi, uova, grassi animali, grassi vegetali (oli), frutta fresca, frutta secca, ortaggi, caffé, zucchero e vino. La rilevanza dello studio proposto consiste nel mettere in luce se esistono traiettorie evolutive comuni tra i Paesi europei o se, per contro, ancora permangono differenziazioni. Tale prospettiva risulta di particolare importanza soprattutto dal punto di vista della formulazione di appropriate politiche agricole e agroalimentari rispetto alle quali si avverte oggi la necessità di un ripensamento al fine di valorizzare appieno il legame tra consumi alimentari e agricoltura, da un lato, e consumi alimentari e rischi alimentari per la salute legati alla dieta, dall'altro. Questi aspetti sono di particolare rilevanza anche per la definizione di un sistema di protezione del consumatore in grado di evitare o limitare i rischi agli operatori della catena agroalimentare. Il lavoro prende avvio dalla caratterizzazione dei consumi alimentari e delle loro recenti tendenze che rappresenta l'indispensabile cornice interpretativa dei risultati dell'analisi di "similarità " e di convergenza. Questi due ultimi aspetti sono sviluppati attraverso la costruzione di indici sintetici e di appropriate tecniche di classificazione. Infine, le conclusioni mirano a recuperare la visione di insieme del lavoro per porre in evidenza i principali aspetti di rilevo per le implicazioni di politica economica in campo agricolo e agroalimentare.

L'articolo ricostruisce i rapporti tra sicurezza e difesa, sottolineandone le differenti origini storiche e gli attuali profili di convergenza. A partire dall'analisi delle principali disposizioni costituzionali ed europee in materia, e delle differenti dimensioni ricollegate a tali concetti giuridici, vengono approfondite le più recenti tendenze evolutive nei rapporti tra sicurezza e difesa, anche alla luce delle attuali sfide sul piano globale (terrorismo internazionale, gestione delle crisi umanitarie, emergenza pandemica ed ambientale). Tale processo di convergenza può trovare nel concetto di "sicurezza nazionale" un primo approdo, anche alla luce della giurisprudenza costituzionale ed europea, oltre che dell'evoluzione che gli stessi servizi di sicurezza hanno avuto con la riforma attuata dalla legge n. 124/2007.

Abstract:
This paper reports an attempt to investigate the extent of club-convergence amongst the prefectures of Greece during the time period 1980-2005. A model is developed in an attempt to assess the impact of agglomerations and regional capacities on the innovation and adoption of technology. Empirical application of this model suggests that adoption of technology and diversity in a region's economic structure are of critical importance in determining a club-convergence pattern. In addition, it is established that there is a significant spatial dimension to regional growth and that club-members are in close spatial proximity. One straightforward policy implication is that regional policies should provide the appropriate infrastructure in lagging regions so that they adopt advanced technology. . In questo lavoro di tesi sono stati presentati alcuni concetti sulla teoria delle martingale, un processo stocastico dipendente dal tempo. Nel primo capitolo si studiano le prime proprietà delle martingale, ponendo particolare attenzione per il valore atteso condizionato. Nel secondo capitolo si analizza la convergenza delle martingale negli spazi L^p e nel caso particolare dello spazio L^1, richiamando alcuni importanti teoremi di convergenza di Doob. Infine è stata studiata un'applicazione delle martingale alla Finanza Matematica: i moti browniani.

Questa tesi analizza l’influenza degli US GAAP nell’adozione degli IFRS da parte del Canada, in particolar modo analizzando il comportamento di un campione di imprese canadesi nella scelta delle overt options. La tesi si struttura con un primo capitolo che introduce gli IFRS e un secondo che introduce gli US GAAP ripercorrendo il percorso di convergenza dei due principali Standard-setters. Il terzo capitolo si concentra sulle principali differenze dei due Standard-setters, il quarto ripercorre il percorso di convergenza del Canada agli IFRS, soffermandosi sull’attuale struttura contabile e infine il quinto riporta l’analisi empirica che verifica se effettivamente la tradizione contabile canadese è influenzata da quella statunitense nell’adozione degli IFRS.

Il lavoro è dedicato all'analisi del nuovo testo televisivo nell'epoca della convergenza. Un testo espanso perché capace di dilatarsi su altri media, viaggiando così com'è per più piattaforme; un testo espanso perché capace di generare altri testi su altri media, espandendo il proprio universo narrativo. Le dinamiche di questo testo sono più che mai evidenti nell'industria statunitense, da sempre la più avanzata e organizzata. Proprio al panorama statunitense è quindi dedicata la nostra analisi. Il testo espanso è una tendenza ravvisabile in modo più o meno evidente per tutti i generi televisivi, e più in generale fa parte di una propensione alla crossmedialità presente in ogni media. Abbiamo però focalizzato la nostra attenzione sul telefilm americano, che meglio di altri racchiude, esemplifica, esaspera le caratteristiche del testo espanso.
This study analyses the television text of the Convergence Age, an expanded text as it can be utilized by the other media besides being able to run on different platforms without requiring any editing. It is an expanded text because it can generate other media texts, thus expanding its narrative universe. The potentials residing in this kind of text are well-known to the American television industry, the leader of the sector as well as the most organized and advanced worldwide. Therefore my analysis investigates the American production. The expanded text is a recognizable trend as far as all television genres are concerned, and belongs to an overall tendency to crossmediality which is noticeable in all media. My work focuses on the American TV series as it best displays, exemplifies, and emphasizes the features of the expanded text.

La tesi discute il risultato sulla convergenza di grafi aleatori con una sequenza di gradi data a un grafo limite, ponendo un vincolo sul grado massimo e grado minimo. Per generare reti dense utilizzeremo il beta-model i cui parametri verranno stimati con il metodo di massima verosimiglianza. Sarà presentato un algoritmo iterativo per il calcolo degli stimatori di massima verosimiglianza che risulteranno essere unici e consistenti. I risultati ottenuti saranno utilizzati per la costruzione della funzione che rispetta le ipotesi del teorema della convergenza.

Ripercorrendo l’ampio dibattito sul tema emerge quanto numerose siano le definizioni di integrazione elaborate dagli studiosi che si sono occupati di migrazioni. Soprattutto in anni più recenti, in forza dei rilevanti cambiamenti dei fenomeni migratori in atto, in molti concordano che questi processi sono aperti a molteplici esiti, in gran parte collegati a fattori di contesto politico, sociale, economico e culturale. Questi diversi fattori rappresentano altrettante dimensioni con cui si può guardare all’integrazione, che pertanto si configura come concetto multidimensionale, oltre che dinamico, e che può essere declinato a diversi livelli di analisi. Il livello relazionale (livello meso) rappresenta il punto di convergenza di fattori di integrazione macro e micro: i percorsi di inserimento urbano spesso dipendono dall’efficacia delle reti nelle quali si è inseriti. Questo contributo presenta i risultati di una ricerca condotta nel quartiere Mercato a Napoli, che ha avuto come oggetto di analisi l’integrazione della comunità cabardina, attraverso la metodologia e gli strumenti della Social Network Analysis. There are many definitions of integration developed by scholars of migration. They agree – especially in recent years, due to the significant changes in migration – that these processes are open to multiple outcomes, largely related political, social, economic and cultural factors. These different factors represent the different dimension which you can look to the integration; a term that appears as a multidimensional concept, as well as dynamic, and can be declined at different levels of analysis. The relational level (meso-level) represents the point of convergence between macro and micro factors of integration. In fact, the urban integration processes often depend on the effectiveness of their own social networks. This paper presents the results of a survey in the Mercato neighborhood (Naples). Abstract:
In questo “position paper” si rappresentano obbiettivi modelli e metodi per contribuire ad avviare una campagna attiva di ricerca e sensibilizzazione sociale basata sull’interazione attraverso reti sociali e reti di automi basata nel Parco della Ricerca Enea Casaccia. Viene fornita un’anticipazione di quello che vuole essere il progetto “Sistemi Aperti Sapienza”; viene poi fornita una descrizione delle motivazioni di partenza e della riflessione che ha generato questa idea progettuale. Poi vengono considerate le ragioni per la convergenza di partner, identificati nei principali organismi della ricerca nel nostro territorio, in una organizzazione regionale guidata e ospitata da ENEA per raggiungere più rapidamente gli obiettivi dichiarati. La proposta prevede l’ implementazione presso ENEA, di un “FabLab”, un laboratorio finalizzato alla realizzazione di prototipi virtuali / reali, ovvero progettati attraverso software di modellazione 3d e stampabili attraverso stampanti 3d dall’utilizzatore finale. Ciò avverrebbe sulla scorta di quanto sta rapidamente diffondendosi in Italia e nel mondo sull’esempio del Center for Bits and Atoms (CBA) - MIT di Boston fondato da Neil Gershenfeld. Il FabLab Casaccia dovrebbe essere realizzato come una delle previste Officine della Sostenibilità specializzata nella produzione di soluzioni per la riqualificazione energetica degli edifici, per l’ applicazione delle energie sostenibili, per la diffusione virale di educazione e consapevolezza energetica e ambientale. Questo progetto, è pensato come un contributo di Sapienza nell’ambito della partnership al progetto di riqualificazione del Parco ENEA finalizzato ad operare per l’applicazione, prevista entro il 2015, delle misure di riqualificazione degli edifici nel settore della Pubblica Amministrazione.

Abstract:
A globally convergent and fully coupled magnetomechanical model for 3D magnetostrictive systems is presented. In magnetostrictive actuators, magnetic field and stress inputs generate magnetic flux density and strain. We refer to models that follow this scheme as direct models (no relation to the direct magnetomechanical effect). In certain design and control situations, inverse models are necessary in which the magnetic field and stress are found from specified magnetic flux density and strains. This inversion typically involves an iterative procedure, which may be prone to convergence issues. An inverse model approach is proposed for arbitrary magnetostrictive materials. The inversion requirement is a continuous and second order differentiable direct model for any chosen magnetostrictive material. The approach is globally convergent, which makes it ideal for use in finite element frameworks. The premise of the proposed iterative system model is to constitute a recursive correction formula based on second order approximations of a novel scalar error function which allows to achieve a faster convergence rate. A continuation approach is then used to achieve global convergence for arbitrary input parameters. To illustrate, Galfenol is chosen as the magnetostrictive material, and analytical derivations of the Jacobian and Hessian matrices are presented. Finally, the computational efficiency of the proposed approach is shown to compare favorably against existing models.

Abstract:
Fictitious play (FP) is one of the most fundamental game-theoretical learning frameworks for computing Nash equilibrium in n-player games, which builds the foundation for modern multi-agent learning algorithms. Although FP has provable convergence guarantees on zero-sum games and potential games, many real-world problems are often a mixture of both and the convergence property of FP has not been fully studied yet. In this paper, we extend the convergence results of FP to the combinations of such games and beyond. Specifically, we derive new conditions for FP to converge by leveraging game decomposition techniques. We further develop a linear relationship unifying cooperation and competition in the sense that these two classes of games are mutually transferable. Finally, we analyse a non-convergent example of FP, the Shapley game, and develop sufficient conditions for FP to converge.

This paper presents a plant-inversion based Switched Iterative Learning Control (SILC) scheme for a special class of Multi-Input Multi-Output (MIMO) systems for which only one output channel can be accessed at any given time. While Asymptotic Stability (AS), or zero error convergence, is predominantly considered in Iterative Learning Control (ILC), AS cannot be achieved for this class of systems. A weaker condition, bounded convergence, however, can be obtained. With the SILC scheme proposed in this paper, the measurement channels are accessed one at a time in a specific order. Each time an output channel is accessed, bounded convergence of all of the channel errors is achieved by using an ILC algorithm. As the access is switched from one channel to the next, the previously achieved convergent error is brought to a new value due to the change of measurement information, which may or may not be less than the previous one, depending on the structure of the learning matrix. Using the inverse plant dynamics as a learning matrix and as the switching action continues occurring, the bounded convergence tends to zero convergence. Illustrative examples are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed SILC scheme and its robustness to modeling uncertainty.

Abstract:
The application of sliding modes for control of hydraulic drives appear promising due to strong robustness toward plant uncertainties and disturbances. Especially high order sliding modes may be successfully implemented avoiding the discontinuous control seen in first order sliding controls. However, the very feature of switching about the control target may be undesirable due to finite sampling time and actuator dynamics, and may cause oscillating flow line pressures. This paper discusses a second order sliding controller based on the so-called prescribed convergence algorithm, when used for chattering elimination in hydraulic drive control applications. For this usage the algorithm suffers from poor convergence properties unless a high control gain is chosen, which in turn increases pressure oscillations. To negotiate the combined challenge the controller is extended with a proportional term for improved convergence speed, and the gain of the discontinuous control is made variable according to the control target itself. It is shown that the control error and its derivative are globally convergent to a vicinity of the target via Lyapunov arguments, with accuracy dependent on control parameters, and finite time convergence properties are considered via homogeneity reasoning. Results demonstrate improved control operation compared to the basic algorithm when implemented for position tracking control of a hydraulic drive.

Sparse learning models have shown promising performance in the high dimensional machine learning applications. The main challenge of sparse learning models is how to optimize it efficiently. Most existing methods solve this problem by relaxing it as a convex problem, incurring large estimation bias. Thus, the sparse learning model with nonconvex constraint has attracted much attention due to its better performance. But it is difficult to optimize due to the non-convexity. In this paper, we propose a linearly convergent stochastic second-order method to optimize this nonconvex problem for large-scale datasets. The proposed method incorporates second-order information to improve the convergence speed. Theoretical analysis shows that our proposed method enjoys linear convergence rate and guarantees to converge to the underlying true model parameter. Experimental results have verified the efficiency and correctness of our proposed method.

Los estudios que pretenden responder si las zonas más prósperas de Colombia crecen a menor ritmo que aquellas con mayor rezago relativo han arrojado resultados dispares. Este documento actualiza las estimaciones de la convergencia beta incondicional del PIB per cápita para los primeros años del siglo XXI, donde se han observado importantes cambios estructurales. Adicionalmente, el estudio descompone la convergencia beta por cambios sectoriales y mide su estabilidad ante variaciones del año inicial de comparación. Este análisis se complementó con el estudio de la convergencia de otros indicadores sociales y económicos. Los resultados sugieren una beta creciente, aunque no significativa, indicando una transición de una leve convergencia a un periodo de divergencia. Además, los principales contribuyentes a la convergencia durante mayor parte del período son los sectores de minas y canteras, y el sector público. En contraste, existe evidencia de convergencia de los ingresos fiscales per cápita y una reducción más rápida de la pobreza multidimensional en las zonas con menor pobreza inicial en el último período intercensal.
