Abstract:

Abstract:
Till now there is a vast literature available on this subject both theoretically and empirically. All the studies are mostly observing this convergence/divergence nature over a long period of time. To quote some of the researches such as Trivedi (2002), Bandyopadhyay (2002), Michelle, Kirsty and Cassen (2005), Nayyar (2008), Kalra & Sodsriwiboon (2010), Ghosh (2012), Stewart and Moslares (2014), Mishra and Mishra (2017) and Chakraborty and Chakraborty (2018) all are considered long period of time to estimate the presence of convergence/divergence among Indian states. But the long term development of a region depends upon so many factors such as availability of natural resources, human resources, economic policies adopted in the region, political climate etc. Hence, when we are dealing with the issue of convergence/divergence we have to consider the above-said factors. From this point of view, this paper focuses on the short term observing of convergence/divergence particularly with reference to Indian states during the period 2011-12 to 2016-17. High Growth Group States witnessed convergence in PCNSDP while Low Growth Group States and the Total States exhibited divergent trends. The high Growth Group States converged at a rate of 49.8 per cent during the study period. The rate of divergence among the Low Growth Group States is 14.5 per cent. Regarding the Total States, the rate of divergence is observed as 12.4 per cent. Here also the high growth group states are accounted for fewer fluctuations when compared with low growth group states.

Abstract:

The objective of this research was to analyze the convergent validity of a computerized program called Rejilla v.1, which was built with the aim of evaluating selective attention and to be used in contexts such as sport. A total of 99 participants collaborated on the study, aged between 19 and 36 years old (M ± SD = 25.15 ± 3.56). To assess convergent validity, correlation analyses were performed with other instruments that have traditionally been used to evaluate selective attention, such as the D2 Attention Test and the Toulouse-Pieron Test. The results found revealed moderate and low correlations between the instruments, suggesting relationships between them, although they should be taken with caution. The main measures of the D2 Test and the Toulouse-Pieron Test showed moderate levels with the hits of Rejilla v.1, but the secondary measures showed low associations. It is suggested that other cognitive functions, in addition to selective attention, could participate in the performance of Rejilla v.1 exercises, which is discussed at work. Abstract:
Global climate change policy enforcement has become the new driving force of resource grabbing in the context of the “scramble of resources” in Africa. Nevertheless, the environmental crisis should not be seen as an isolated phenomenon amid contemporary capitalism. On the contrary, a very distinct feature of the current wave of land grabs is the convergence of multiple crises, including food, energy/fuel, environmental, and financial. The Southern Mozambique District, Massingir, is an area with high potential regarding water sources and biodiversity. It recently became a host of a biofuel project, and also a huge block of land is being transformed into a conservation/tourism area; answering to many issues within capitalism’s crisis, this area is an evidence of how synergetic resource grabbing can arise as a response to the convergence of multiple crises. Therefore, by analyzing the emerging politics of natural resources in Massingir District and the dynamics regarding the land-use change, changes in property relations, it is possible to understand how rural livelihoods are shaped. Risks related to food security and sovereignty, loss of control and access to resources, consistent narrowing down of the set of livelihood strategies, and inter-community conflicts over scarce resources are the main implications of such emerging climate-smart land politics.

The main purpose of this paper is to determine the approximations of Durrmeyermodification of Szasz-Mirakjan operators, defined by Mishra et al. (Boll. Unione Mat. Ital. (2016) 8(4):297-305). We estimate the order of approximation of the operators for the functions belonging to the different spaces. Here, the rate of convergence of the said operators is established by means of the function with derivative of the bounded variation. At last, the graphical analysis is discussed to support the approximation results of the operators.

Abstract:
The murder of George Floyd by a police officer in the United States in May 2020 and the subsequent turmoil, as well as the violence against migrants on the US-Mexican border, have drawn major public and media attention to the phenomenon of police brutality (see, e.g., Levin 2020; Misra 2018; Taub 2020), which is often labeled as ‘militarization of police’. At the same time, in recent years military forces have been increasingly involved in policing missions in civilian environments, both domestically (see, e.g., Kanno-Youngs 2020; Schrader 2020; Shinkman 2020) and abroad. The convergence of military conduct and policing raises intriguing questions regarding the impact of these tendencies on the military and the police, as well as on their legitimacy.

Abstract:

Abstract:
This study provides insight into lived experiences of the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States. Participant metaphors of the pandemic were collected by conducting in-depth semi-structured interviews ( N = 44). Participants were asked to compare the pandemic with an animal and with a color, and to provide contextual sensemaking about their metaphors. A metaphor analysis revealed four convergent mental models of participants’ pandemic experiences (i.e., uncertainty, danger, grotesque, and misery) as well as four primary emotions associated with those mental models (i.e., grief, disgust, anger, and fear). Through metaphor, participants were able to articulate deeply felt, implicit emotions about their pandemic experiences that were otherwise obscured and undiscussable. Theoretical and practical implications of these collective mental models and associated collective emotions related to the unprecedented collective trauma of the COVID-19 pandemic are discussed.

Abstract:
Holymenia clavigera (Herbst) and Anisoscelis foliacea marginella (Dallas) (Hemiptera: Coreidae: Anisoscelini) are distributed in southern Brazil and use various passion vine species (Passifloraceae) as host-plants. Preliminary observations indicate a high coexistence of these species in terms of host-plant use; in addition, there is a strong similarity regarding egg and nymph morphology. In this study, the most suitable feeding sites for nymph performance on wild (Passiflora suberosa Linnaeus and Passiflora misera Humbold, Bonpland et Kunth) and cultivated (Passiflora edulis Sims) hosts were determined by rearing them on each host and on the combination of hosts. Performance was determined by evaluating nymph development and survivorship, and adult size at emergence. Plant parts used were also recorded. For both species, P. suberosa was the most suitable host plant. First instar nymphs of both species fed on terminal buds more frequently when compared to other plant parts. Second instar nymphs switched to green fruits, whose behavior was more pronounced for H. clavigera. Thus, H. clavigera and A. foliacea marginella immatures are extremely similar in terms of host-plant use and consequences for performance, in addition to their morphological similarity. We suggest that these coreids may have evolved through several processes, including parsimony between the immature stages after speciation, evolutionary convergence, mimicry or genetic drift.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Primary and acquired drug resistance is a major challenge to achieving optimized clinical outcomes during cancer treatment which can arise from transcription reactivation, bypass and alteration during anticancer treatment [1-3]. Epigenetic dysregulation is emerging as a crucial component involved in drug resistance. Transcriptional adaptation during drug treatment is often mediated by inducible histone modifications, especially histone H3 lysine 27 acetylation (H3K27ac) at the distal enhancer elements, thus activating the transcription of drug resistance-associated genes [4-6]. BRD4 (bromodomain-containing protein 4), a member of the bromodomain and extra-terminal domain (BET) family, acts as a chromatin reader to regulate transcription by linking histone acetylation and core components of the transcriptional apparatus [7]. BET inhibitors (BETi), as exemplified by JQ1 and I-BET151, have been shown to suppress the growth of multiple types of tumor both in vitro and in vivo [8]. However, drug resistance associated with BETi becomes one of the major hurdles hampering the clinical applications of these promising drug candidates [8, 9]. Using BET inhibitor (BETi) resistant leukemia cells as a model system, we demonstrated herein that genome-wide enhancer remodeling played a pivotal role in driving therapeutic resistance via compensational re-expression of pro-survival genes. Capitalizing on CRISPR interference, we identified the second intron of IncRNA, PVT1, as a unique bona fidegained enhancer that restored MYCtranscription independent of BRD4 recruitment. A combined BETi and CDK7 inhibitor treatment abolished MYC transcription by impeding RNAPII loading without affecting PVT1-mediated chromatin looping at the MYClocus in BETi-resistant leukemia cells. Furthermore, recipient mice transferred with BETi-resistant murine MLL-AF9 AML cells receiving the combination treatment showed the most effective therapeutic outcomes, as characterized by prolonged overall survival and reduced tumor burdens in the spleen and bone marrow. Together, our findings have established the feasibility of targeting enhancer plasticity to overcome drug resistance associated with epigenetic therapies. References 1. Abstract:
There are many films from the so-called independent cinema that denounce the age of globalization, consumerism, the irrationality of the irritating nationalisms, the predominant role of mass media, xenophobia. I had to restrict myself to three films that due to their similarities helped me to study the linguistic film signs, whose semantic constituents aim to condemn these aspects that are part of the so-called age of globalization. The denunciation is not made from the ideological commitment but from the ethical commitment, as the only way towards historical regeneration. The epic and lyrical structure of these films, similar to the Castilian ballad, focuses on the existencial hero facins people’s bad fate. All the narrative elements – language, structura, point of view– are directed towards the historical determinism of the characters, towards the denunciation of the historical drama of the under-developed countries, and towards nihilism from a philosophical point of view. In front of this ideological denunciation, which is part of the epic existence, the ethical commitment of the characters appears, maybe from the director himself, and which gives the lyrical character to the text. The solidarity among each other rescues mankind from the moral poverty in which he is immersed from centuries of fratricidal fight and from poverty facing the so-called consumer society, which only knows this situation from mass media

Abstract:
Mestizo faces: a communication proposal for the study of ancestral therapeutic itineraries in Latin America Abstract In a context of medicalization of daily life and the disciplining of bodies, it becomes urgent to ask what happens with collective perceptions and practices in health, particularly in Latin American populations with ancestral health cultures. In this framework, here we propose the analysis of social representations about "local therapeutic itineraries", from the disciplinary perspective of social communication, as a symbolic space where the processes of production and circulation of social meanings are generated. For this, we put three arguments into consideration. The first presents the subfield of Communication and Health, and the problems that converge there. Under this theoretical framework, we approach Intercultural Health and Communication for social change as possible intellectual tools to reflect on the different "ways of healing". The second argument refers to the possibility of thinking about discourses around traditional knowledge and therapeutic resources, as part of the intangible cultural heritage of a population. Attending to the conflicts that involve the processes of patrimonialization, it is essential to seek to address the local heritage in all its complexity, far from essential looks that make diversity an exoticism. The third raises the need to investigate particular forms –convival, mixture, invisibility– that the articulation between ancestral local knowledge and knowledge linked to functional therapeutic practices to cultural globalization. Undoubtedly, the study of discourses, narratives and processes of social construction of health, can reveal one of the many mestizo faces that delineates the interaction between the local and the global.

Feleki, Despoina. "Popular Authorship Reconfigured: Stephen King’s Authorial Personae from Print to Digital Environments." Authorship 3, no. 1 (March 31, 2014). http://dx.doi.org/10.21825/aj.v3i1.1071.

Abstract:
The convergence of literary practices with computer information technologies (ICTs) has immensely affected writing processes and theories of authorship. This paper aims to foreground contemporary sociocultural conditions which have reconfigured authorship in relation to the materiality of the product through the example of Stephen King’s writing and marketing choices. An investigation of selected printed and digital works, including Misery, Lisey’s Story, Duma’s Key, and UR, showcases King’s concern for the future of authorship in the digital age and the position of the writer in the book and entertainment industries. This article seeks to trace the trajectory of the concept of the author who is seen moving from print to digital environments and being entangled in new forms of communication with the reader. In particular, King, who leaves control of the narrative story to experts in digital mediation, takes advantage of the new medium’s immediacy, comes closer to the recipients of his works, and manages to re-invent his authorial image while his name turns into a brand.
