Full textThis study analyses the television text of the Convergence Age, an expanded text as it can be utilized by the other media besides being able to run on different platforms without requiring any editing. It is an expanded text because it can generate other media texts, thus expanding its narrative universe. The potentials residing in this kind of text are well-known to the American television industry, the leader of the sector as well as the most organized and advanced worldwide. Therefore my analysis investigates the American production. The expanded text is a recognizable trend as far as all television genres are concerned, and belongs to an overall tendency to crossmediality which is noticeable in all media. My work focuses on the American TV series as it best displays, exemplifies, and emphasizes the features of the expanded text.

Full textA vast discussion is underway regarding European structural funds, an instrument the European Union created in order to reduce the economic differentials among its regions. During the 2000-2006 CSF they represented 1/ 3 of EU budget. Despite these efforts, part of the literature finds small effects and persistence in those differences in GDP which these funds should reduce. In this work the issue will be addressed by looking at regions within EU-15, in the period 2000-2007. Proof of the positive effect of funds was first searched using models of absolute beta convergence and addressing issues like spatial autocorrelation and heterogeneity between regions. The attention moved then to the task of constructing a dataset which could provide detailed figures on funding paid to each region each year, by combining information available from official sources and through the estimation of those figures for which information was missing. On the base of this dataset new models were estimated, taking into account the spill-over effects and the possibility of cluster convergence. The result was that structural funds have, overall, a positive impact. Once we move to more complex and realistic models, convergence becomes weaker, casting some doubts on the effectiveness of these funds.

Full textThe dissertation is an attempt to reconstruct ethnic minority publishing media logic through an ethnographic approach. The first part is a depiction of the media, cultural, institutional scenario, where publishing practices unfold, with a specific focus on meaningful transformations provoked by both global dynamics and international migrations. The second part is a reconstruction of the debate upon ethnic media culture, or rather, an analysis of the most salient approaches and a meta-theoretical examination of the most recurring methodologies. The third part provides an insight on the process of framing with relation to the journalism, and the possibility to offer a definition of the social situation and to produce an enlargement of the concept of citizenship. The fourth part is a presentation of the ethnographic results of a research upon a sample compounded by six newsroom. Qualitative outcomes reveals a huge range of productive cultures, in which both professionalism and ethnicity are negotiated in base of the specific features of each organization. Nevertheless, ethnic minority media culture represents a privileged viewpoint from where to observe the complex dynamics affecting the contemporary mediascape in the convergence era.

Full textThe processes of digitalization and media convergence have had a major impact on the procedures of production, distribution and reception of audiovisual content. However, the impact has not been limited to those areas. The emergence of cultural phenomena such as transmedia storytelling, distributed narratives, intertextuality, the hybridization of forms of discourse, the integration of elements of game-playing within the traditionally linear narrative structures, and the growing importance of world-building within the story development process attest that the paradigm shift is not only occurring at an economical, industrial and communicational level, but also at a narratological one. The aim of this research is to map this paradigm shift, with particular focus on the emergence of transmedia narrative forms.

Full textThe paper focuses on the project for a Common Consolidated Corporate Tax Base (CCCTB), and in particular on the last comprehensive package of Directives proposed by the European Commission in 2016. Beyond the future developments of the proposal, which still today, albeit under a different name (BEFIT), forms an integral part of the Commission's tax agenda, the question, which has been attempted to be answered through the research activity, concerns in particular the appropriateness, as a logical premise to the tax harmonisation project, of the full convergence, for the purposes of determining the tax base, with the IAS/IFRS accounting standards, in order to make the discipline easier to apply, eliminate interpretative distortions, and promote full comparability with companies operating also in non-EU markets. To this end, the first chapter analyses the historical evolution of the corporate income tax harmonisation projects in the European system, in order to understand the maturity of the debate, assess the tools that can be used to achieve the objective, and examine the reasons why the various proposals presented over time have not been adopted. Secondly (chapter two), going into detail with regard to the research question, the study analyses the historical evolution of the international accounting standards, their influence on the European legislator, the relationship with the individual systems of the Member States, and the influence on taxation; it then proceeds to analyse the differences and points of convergence between the general principles laid down in the IAS/IFRS framework, in the European Accounting Directives, in individual Member State regulations and in the projects for a CCCTB presented over time. In the third chapter, the comparative analysis focuses on specific accounting rules that are most relevant to the CCCTB. It also explores the effects on the harmonised tax incentives provided, for the first time, by the 2016 draft, and possible influences on the formula for allocating consolidated income between Member States. Finally, the conclusions provide a summary of the research findings, arguing that there are no major obstacles to full convergence towards IAS/IFRS in accounting and taxation in EU law, as a precondition for the introduction of a common tax base.
