Abstract:
AbstractObjective:To quantify the noise exposure received while driving a convertible automobile with the top open, compared with the top closed. Methods:Five different convertible automobiles were driven, with the top both closed and open, and noise levels measured. The cars were tested at speeds of 88.5, 104.6 and 120.7 km/h.Results:When driving with the convertible top open, the mean noise exposure ranged from 85.3 dB at 88.5 km/h to 89.9 dB at 120.7 km/h. At the tested speeds, noise exposure increased by an average of 12.4–14.6 dB after opening the convertible top. Conclusion:Driving convertible automobiles at speeds exceeding 88.5 km/h, with the top open, may result in noise exposure levels exceeding recommended limits, especially when driving with the convertible top open for prolonged periods.

Abstract:
Abstract When buying durable goods, consumers must forecast how much utility they will derive from future consumption, including consumption in different states of the world. This can be complicated for consumers because making intertemporal evaluations may expose them to a variety of psychological biases such as present bias, projection bias, and salience effects. We investigate whether consumers are affected by such intertemporal biases when they purchase automobiles. Using data for more than 40 million vehicle transactions, we explore the impact of weather on purchasing decisions. We find that the choice to purchase a convertible or a four-wheel-drive is highly dependent on the weather at the time of purchase in a way that is inconsistent with classical utility theory. We consider a range of rational explanations for the empirical effects we find, but none can explain fully the effects we estimate. We then discuss and explore projection bias and salience as two primary psychological mechanisms that are consistent with our results.

Abstract:
General agreement exists regarding the importance of using infant and toddler car seats. However, current guidelines regarding the proper time to change the direction of a convertible safety seat are still debated. We report a case in which an unusual, but preventable, injury was sustained by a child occupying a "properly" installed child restraint device. The rarity and potential seriousness of this injury illustrates the safety advantage of using rearward facing infant car seats as long as possible during infancy. CASE REPORT A 10-month-old girl weighing 8.04 kg (17 lb 14 oz) occupied a properly installed forward facing convertible safety seat located in the rear seat of an automobile involved in an accident.

Abstract:
Abstract:The auto wiring harness industry began in the 80s, and today it is the main maquiladora export product, and second after engines in this industry. From its beginnings as a simple assembly industry with some plants, it has t u rned into the main industrial conglomerate in states as Chihuahua. Producers, competitors, suppliers, and public utilities give account of a fundamental change in this conglomeration process. The employment turn over has increased substantially, and auto parts companies as Delphi are today the main source of private employment in Mexico. Only with regard to harnesses it has 40,000 employees. The evolution of this industry is reflected in a change of the role of the product and the techno logical advancement. It has turned into the automobile’s central nervous system, and as technological content of the vehicles and integrated systems production increase, its role is increasingly more relevant. This article concludes, however, that in the long term harness- assembling companies can emigrate to other regions with cheaper labor force as China.Palabras clave: harnesses, automotive industry, industrial conglomerate, wiring harness, automotive technology, Cluster, Delphi.
