Abstract:
In the last decade in HCI there has been a growing interest in using interactive technology to support human-food activities such as meal planning, shopping and cooking. However, despite the principles of UCD, few researchers have made use of empirical research of users’ human-food activities to ground their system designs, few evaluated their systems with users against a control and most have designed systems with the needs of younger people in mind. In the first two studies I investigated the food related activities of older adults using focus groups and a food and shopping diary with post d

Abstract:
This project aims to take the investigation of food in early modern drama, in itself a relatively new field, in a new direction. It does this by shifting the critical focus from food-based metaphors to food-based properties and food-producing cook characters. This shift reveals exciting, unexpected, and hitherto unnoticed contexts. In The Taming of the Shrew and Titus Andronicus, which were written during William Shakespeare’s inn-yard playhouse period, the playwright exploits these exceptionally aromatic venues in order to trigger site-specific responses to food-based scenes in these plays. Abstract:
This paper examines the effect of burden sharing in peacekeeping operations (both among contingent troops and in the entirety of the mission) and effectiveness, specifically whether a party chooses to renege on a peace agreement. The author hypothesizes that burden sharing will make it less likely that a party reneges on a peace agreement. The theoretical argument made in the paper is that burden sharing will help in solving the commitment problem inherent to peace agreements, by signaling to the combatants that the peacekeeping mission is there to stay (and won’t be vulnerable to a potential

I investigate the range of different agents’ explicit and implicit views about the forest and forest practices to see what makes the forest such an important resource in Mayurbhanj District in Orissa, India. There are two main lines of inquiry in this dissertation. I examine the social construction of forest practices and livelihoods in relation to sustainability, and how nature-culture, forest-village, object-subject, other-self and local knowledge-Western scientific knowledge are constructed, accounted for and represented. I analyse the junglewala’s (forest-dwellers’) and foresters’ v
