In the process of engine design, it is important for the engine designer to predict the accurate component temperatures. Controlling the temperature of engine components requires a better understanding of the coolant behaviour in the coolant jacket of an engine which is critical to internal combustion engine design, The studies reported in the literature emphasize the influence of the cooling system on other engine operation such as exhaust emission, fuel consumption and engine wear. In this context, much work has been done with the purpose of improving the coolant jacket design and components

Abstract:
Hot isostatic pressing (HIP) is a thermal treatment method that is used to consolidate, densify or bondcomponents and materials. Argon gas is commonly used as the pressure medium and is isostaticallyapplied to the material with an excess pressure of 500-2000 bar and a temperature of 500-2200oC. WithHIP treatment being a well-established technology for the last decades, one is now striving to obtain anincreased understanding of local details in the internal gas flow and heat flux inside the HIP apparatus. The main objective of this work is to assess the potential of using computational fluid dyn

A two-step modelling approach is employed as a result of computational limitations. The numerical ACSC model developed in this study makes use of the pressure jump fan model, amongst other approximations, in an attempt to minimize the computational expense of the perform

Abstract:
Film cooling is a method used to protect surfaces exposed to high-temperature flows such as those that exist in gas turbines. It involves the injection of secondary fluid (at a lower temperature than that of the main flow) that covers the surface to be protected. This injection is through holes that can have various shapes; simple shapes such as those with a straight circular (by drilling) or straight square (by EDM) cross-section are relatively easy and inexpensive to create. Immediately downstream of the exit of a film cooling hole, a so-called horseshoe vortex structure consisting of a pair

Abstract:
Designing turbines for either aerospace or power production is a daunting task for any heat transfer scientist or engineer. Turbine designers are continuously pursuing better ways to convert the stored chemical energy in the fuel into useful work with maximum efficiency. Based on thermodynamic principles, one way to improve thermal efficiency is to increase the turbine inlet pressure and temperature. Generally, the inlet temperature may exceed the capabilities of standard materials for safe and long-life operation of the turbine. Next generation propulsion systems, whether for new supersonic t

In this study, the thermal management system of a notebook computer is investigated by using a commercial finite volume Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software. After taking the computer apart, all dimensions are measured and all major components are modeled as accurately as possible. Heat dissipation values and necessary characteristics of the components are obtained from the manufacturer&#039<br>s specifications. The different heat dissipation paths that are utilized in the design are investigated. Two active fans and aluminum heat dissipation plates as well as the heat pipe system are m
