Abstract:
Summary. The purpose of the study is to reveal the activities of credit unions in Drohobych region in the interwar period, to show their role in the economic protection of the Ukrainian population of Galicia in interwar Poland. The research methodology is based on the principles of historicism, systematicity, scientificity, authorial objectivity, as well as the use of general scientific and special-historical methods. The scientific novelty lies in the study of the development of credit cooperation in Drohobych in the 1920‒1930’s. Conclusions. An important place in the cooperative movement of Eastern Galicia in the interwar period belonged to credit cooperatives. In 1938, there were 25 credit cooperatives of Raiffeisen type (rural associations) and Ukrainian banks (Schulze-Delich city cooperatives) in Drohobych region, which were united around Central Bank (Central Cooperative Bank of "Krai Credit Union"). The capital of these institutions consisted of shares of members and contributions of the population. Credit cooperation protected Ukrainians, increased their solvency and economic independence, national consciousness. The main financial institution of the Ukrainian credit cooperative was Central Bank. With well-developed cooperation, Ukrainians could work effectively even under unfavourable conditions and hostility from the Polish occupation regime. The cooperation protected not only the material but also the spiritual needs of Ukrainian citizens, it was a natural manifestation of social and economic self-organization of the people, a source of its cultural self-development. The financial and credit system contributed to the development of cooperation through the organization of affordable credit for the population, the facilitation of mutual relations between national organizations and the strengthening of the legal status of cooperation.

Cooperatives are legal entities based on the principle of kinship, which consist of all members of natural or legal persons for the welfare of their members. Where most people want to open a business, it has to have a lot of capital to keep the business from running or growing. Kabanjahe The majority of the population opens a shop to meet their daily needs. The existence of a savings and loan unit can help people in the Kabanjahe region to open a business to improve the economy of people in Kabanjahe. Therefore, we need a system that is very helpful in the cooperative's transaction process. The Customer Relationship Management (CRM) application can support the notification process and simplify the cooperative payment process. This research can help cooperatives and cooperative members to conduct transactions and help members with notification of the funds spent and the date of the last payment of the paper.

Abstract:
It is established that the existing banking system is aimed primarily at lending to highly concentrated agricultural enterprises and is not adapted to the needs of small rural businesses. Therefore, the creation of an effective mechanism for lending to small and medium-sized agricultural entities through a credit cooperative system is of particular relevance. Rural credit co-operation is a parallel to banks, an alternative financial system that has begun to firmly occupy a niche in the country's credit and financial system. Its line of business is financial services for small and medium-sized entrepreneurs and villagers who cannot be serviced by banks in rural areas. It is proved that the effective activity of credit cooperation is conditioned by the creation of appropriate prerequisites. This is, first of all, voluntary establishment of credit cooperative institutions and accumulation of funds of individuals and legal entities; the purpose of the credit cooperative to ensure the mode of greatest assistance to its participants in credit, settlement, consulting, and other types of services; recognition of the variety of organizational forms of credit cooperative institutions; the direction of use of accumulated financial resources mainly for production purposes; providing financial support to the credit cooperative and legal and consulting assistance from the state. It is determined that the economic essence of credit cooperation is largely determined not by the type and nature of the participants' activity, but by the specifics of the actions and functions that they cooperate with. The involvement of unions of temporarily free funds of all categories of the population will allow to use its income in the areas of residence, in particular to direct them to the development of the agricultural sector. The creation of credit unions should be seen as encouraging the development of small businesses, including: promoting the development of production and processing of agricultural products in personal peasant and small farms, as well as the development of other small forms of farming in the agricultural sector and processing industry (including the promotion of the creation of agricultural service providers cooperatives); expanding the availability of credit resources for private farms and farms, as well as for cooperative units for the production, processing and marketing of agricultural products and services. Keywords: credit cooperation, credit union, population, personal peasant economy, farming, state.

Abstract:
PurposeThe purposes of this paper are twofold. First, it analyses the income structure in cooperative financial institutions and examines how traditional and non-traditional incomes are related. Second, it evaluates whether increasing diversification towards non-traditional incomes facilitates or hampers the benefits of financial cooperative owners.Design/methodology/approachData are collected from over 3,100 US credit unions over the period of 1994–2016. A number of modern econometric techniques are employed throughout the analysis, including the use of panel fixed effect, generalised method of moments (GMM) and two-stage least square (2SLS) methodologies.FindingsUsing US credit unions as the empirical setting, the empirical results reveal that the expansion of traditional income leads to a corresponding increase in income from non-traditional activities. However, an increasing reliance on non-traditional income causes a significant drop in interest margins. The authors also find that the extent to which income diversification affects owner benefit varies across credit union types and period of time. While income diversification negatively affects owners' benefits in single common bond credit unions, it has no significant influence on multiple common bond and community credit union owners' benefits. Third, diversification can be beneficial during crisis time, but can be detrimental to owner benefit during normal time.Originality/valueThis paper provides some of the first empirical investigations on the diversification strategy of cooperative financial institutions. Therefore, the results offer significant policy implications for policymakers and market participants on whether financial cooperatives should diversify or specialise.

This study aims to analyze crediting procedures. The research method used in this research is the descriptive method to describe crediting activities conducted by Cooperative Rahastra Credit Union in Bandung. This research uses the qualitative approach. The data obtained by using the research instrument is through observation, in-depth interview and documentation study. The results of the study indicate that crediting procedures include credit administration, credit documentation, credit approval, and credit processing. Implementation of credit procedures undertaken by the Cooperative Rahastra Credit Union in Bandung has not been maximized because there is still one indicator of lending procedures that have not been met. Indicators that have not been met is the stage of credit documentation, that is when doing credit analysis not all prospective borrowers through the credit analysis phase. Cooperative Rahastra Credit Union still uses the element of subjectivity in assessing prospective borrowers. As a result of not applying this credit analysis resulted in the addition of bad credit. Abstract:
This study aims to investigate the factors that affect the market exit of Brazilian singular credit unions from 1995 to 2009; it also identifies and lists the determinants of various types of market exits and analyzes whether profitability is a significant factor for credit union survival. This study was conducted with accounting data provided by the Central Bank of Brazil, which derives only from individual cooperatives, i.e. singular credit unions. Quarterly financial statements from these credit unions that were active from 1995 to the second quarter of 2009 were employed, totaling 71,325 observations for 1,929 credit unions. Based on survival and the model of competing risks (such as the Cox, Exponential, Weibull, Gompertz, and Competing Risk models), the results show that there is no statistical evidence to ensure a correlation between profitability and credit union survival. The results also suggest that the size of credit unions plays a key role in their survival and longevity and that their funding and investment management are related to their survival and risk of market exit. In conclusion, the results confirm the initial idea that the duality inherent to credit unions - cooperative principles versus economic efficiency - might influence the stability, survival, and longevity of these institutions. Such results may also imply that a credit union embracing the rationale of a private bank will become more estranged from its members, something which will hinder its future operations and increase the likelihood of its exit from the market.

Abstract:
The origins of the cooperative movement can be traced to the Rochdale Society of Equitable Pioneers in 1844, from which similar institutions emerged in Central Europe, the North American continent and the rest of the world. Modern credit unions evolved from these small cooperative societies and have developed into mainstream providers of financial services in many jurisdictions. However, credit unions in the UK have not made a similar impact. There are several factors that have limited their growth – an inadequate legislative framework, an ineffective credit union regulatory system, inappropriate development models, an over-reliance on state subsidies and a disunited movement. The aim of this paper is to re-examine these factors in light of the level of political support provided by the government since 1997.

Abstract:
This project will identify the options available to a credit union desiring to open an office of the securities industry to provide investment products and advisory services to its member. The three options identified are becoming a branch office of an established broker/dealer, becoming an introducing broker/dealer, or purchasing an existing broker/dealer. An analysis will identify the required needs of an account executive in a computer system, client statements, and client confirmations. It will also analysis the capital requirements, the expenses of opening and running an office, fees charged to clients, and the licenses required. This project will show that any of these three options are feasible for a credit union but which option is chosen will be determined by the size and capital of the credit union undertaking this business venture.

Abstract:
Thesis (MDF)--Stellenbosch University, 2012.
Union Régionale des Coopèratives d’Epargne et de Crédit (URCOOPEC) is a network of 10 savings and credit cooperatives, established in 1990 by UNDP in Chad to support the government’s strategy of strengthening and improving access to financial services to the population. All the cooperatives are located in and around N’djaména the capital city of Chad. URCOOPEC has developed as a microfinance model owned by the community that is able to help the poor population that is excluded from the formal financial services accessing these services. Despite its potential of reaching people even in remote areas, literature about previous studies in other countries has indicated that sustainability of savings and credit cooperatives is hampered by the issues in corporate governance, management, skills, product development amongst others. This study examines the viability of this model in the context of Chad; particularly it examines the conditions for which this model can better contribute to financial sector development in Chad. The findings reveal that the model was helpful and accepted by many users at its earlier stage. However, weaknesses in corporate governance, credit management and shortage of skills have led this URCOOPEC into difficulties. There is a need for training of technical staff and for the board to develop more products, sensitize the members about their rights and duties. URCOOPEC also needs financial support from government and donors as well as linkage with commercial banks to better contribute to the provision of financial services to the population.

Abstract:
The 2008 financial crisis impacted the Caribbean financial sector with declining liquidity and profitability, and return on assets falling to 0.7% from 2.6%. The purpose of this single case study was to explore strategies that credit union executives in Grenada used to consistently maintain profitability. The targeted study population consisted of four credit union executives responsible for operations, administration, and regulations in the financial service cooperative industry in Grenada. The social influence of power theory was the conceptual framework that grounded this study. The data collection process included semistructured interviews and document (annual reports and cooperative society laws) review. Data analysis involved the thematic approach, using word frequency, coding, and text search to identify underlying themes. Themes that emerged from the study included risk management, investment policies, and the influence of executives decisions' on consistent profitability. Study findings may contribute to positive social change by helping credit union executives maintain profitability, resulting in the potential to benefit local communities by supporting projects that improve the quality of life.

Šiuo metu Lietuvoje kredito sektoriuje šalia komerciniu banku veikia smulkios kooperatinės finansinės institucijos – kredito unijos. Kredito unijos – kooperatiniais pagrindais suskurta kredito įstaiga, teikianti įvairias finansines paslaugas tik savo nariams: priima indėlius, suteikia paskolas, teikia kitas paslaugas, savo lėšomis remia verslo pradžia ir plėtra, vykdo įvairius projektus. Kredito unijos yra sukurtos fizinių asmenų, mažų įmonių atstovų, žemdirbių, ūkininkų iniciatyva, todėl kredito unijų išduodamos savitarpio paskolos yra skirtos mažesnes nei vidutines pajamas gaunantiems klientams bei smulkiam verslui remti. At present time in the credit sector of Lithuania in line with commercial banks one can find small cooperative financial institutions or credit unions. A credit union is a credit institution, established on a cooperative basis, which supplies various financial services to its members. A credit union accepts deposits, provides credits and other services, gives support to the establishment and development of business and implements different projects. Credit unions are usually established by the initiative of natural persons, representatives of small enterprises and farmers, therefore mutual credits provided by credit unions are targeted at clients with lower than average income as well as to support small business.

This research had aims to analyze the development of Ecosol rural solidary credit union in Minas Gerais, seeking to understand the logic of operationalisation of financial services and the basis of organizational changes that follow the growth of cooperatives. The cooperatives analyzed were built on the political struggles of family farmers and have strong ideological influences of groups of the Catholic Church. Social and physical proximity among the operating structure of the Organization and the spaces of interaction with the target people allow the cooperatives to incorporate social mechanisms in credit monitoring and control, as reputation and trust. This streamlines risk assessments, which does not focus only on instrumental techniques. However, cooperatives undertake a natural process of growing and changing, induced by the institutional environment. The expansion of membership and operations were followed by increased risks, mainly defaults. This context requires the formalization of functional structures, notably to increase control. There was a coercive isomorphic process, leading the organization to standardize certain practices due to pressures from regulators. Uncertainty experienced by cooperatives induced also mimetic isomorphism, with Ecosol cooperatives becoming similar to those of Cresol system, considered the most legitimate of the organizational field, adopting similar organizational practices. The mimicry has been reinforced through a technical cooperation agreement signed between these two cooperative systems and the integration to-be of cooperatives Ecosol/MG in system Cresol. It can be concluded that the Ecosol mimetic isomorphism configures a strategic organizational restructuring process, which in turn relativizes the impacts of the coercive isomorphism. Accordingly, the integration of the Ecosol/MG cooperatives with Cresol cooperative system cannot be considered merely the consequence of an organizational failure.

The high inflationary indices that had lasted in Brazil in the 80âs, had been damaging, for several segments of the society, benefiting few economic sectors. Among those segments that had grown in this uncommon conjuncture, the financial institutions are distinguished, companies that focused their activities in terms of keeping public founds and application from federal governmentâs papers, avoiding to carry through operations of loans and financings, preventing to run in risk. The management used to maximize profits and to prevent risks took these institutions to carry through great investments in technological solutions and the main goal was to transform the processes of finance transferences into a very quick way and reduce the costs with salaries. As a consequence of this process the contact with clients became very impersonal. The view of knowing and evaluating the customers started right after the implantation of the Brazilian Real Plan was initiated after and beginning of the process of reduction of the inflation indices and taxes of interests. In this environment appeared the union corporations that work among doctors and belong to Unicred System, institutions that in last fifteen years comes conquering spaces in niches, that previously were exclusive for banks in commercial field and that encloses 129 cooperatives in Brazil. This paper presents an study about Unicred of Fortaleza, involving its controllers e cooperated clients, beyond the controllers of the Unicred Porto Alegre, Unicred of Southwestern Goias, Unicred of Southern Rio de Janeiro, Unicred Middle Plateaus and Unicred Saint Carlos, what are the only ones in Unicredâs System that work exclusively in the niche of doctors and their relatives. The work identify, in the perspective of the involved companies: the reasons from what doctors decided to belong to Unicred and maintain financial relationship with it, although all sort of financial institutions that can be found in the market; the view that they have of the services provided by their business; the importance of the main tools of marketing relationship used to conquer and maintain the associated partners and focus the risks of the competition of the banks over the niches in what the Unicred system what on. The study contributes in terms of making a review of the concept that doctors, in function of the image of a joined and cooperative class, have a strong cooperative feeling, being this the main booster of the growth of Unicred System.

Abstract:
Chapter three analyzes radical Great Depression- and World War II-era consumer cooperatives in working-class Freret neighborhood as their anti-racist, socialist calls for a complete overhaul of the capitalist system careened into their constituents desire for economic expediency. Opening an integrated grocery store called Consumers’ Co-operative Union, along with host of affiliated cooperatives, German, black, and Latin American organizers muted their Popular Front sympathies to lower the cost of living for racially mixed Freret residents and implement New Deal economic reforms in the South. Although critics charged that Rochdale cooperatives were too apolitical, and while radicals’ principles were co-opted to serve a capitalist agenda, chapter three illuminates how the city’s mid-twentieth-century credit union movement embedded Popular Front ideals into Great Society social policies. Credit unions operated as political channel for marginalized communities, situating New Orleans urban growth within the context of the long civil rights movement.

Abstract:
Drawing from the civil rights and Black Power movements, a cooperative movement swept the south in the late 1960s to address economic injustice and the lack of jobs. Rural African Americans organized cooperatives to resist the poverty and oppression that spurred northern and western migration, creating opportunities for community self-determination. Founded in 1967, the Federation of Southern Cooperatives (FSC) helped former tenant farmers and sharecroppers develop autonomy. By 1974, the FSC encompassed 134 cooperatives in fourteen states. Motivated to promote and protect Black land ownership, by 1977 the cooperative controlled more than one million acres. The FSC’s agricultural programs trained farmers in areas such as conservation, management, and cooperative purchasing and marketing. The FSC provided technical and financial assistance to the member cooperatives, growing to include initiatives such as credit unions, manufacturing cooperatives, housing programs, and health care centers. The FSC developed mechanisms for multistate collective organizing, engaged in local politics, and lobbied for policies that benefit their member organizations. The FSC’s successes in collective action and collective responsibility threatened white power structures, and white elites responded with political and legal attacks. While harming the FSC, it continues to organize southern cooperatives today, remaining a model for self-determination and resistance.

Abstract:
In this study, the authors analyse the socioeconomic, political and geographic conditions that are conducive of cooperative microfinance initiatives in comparison with other organizational forms in Africa. They distinguish three types of institutions (MFIs) and business models: cooperatives/credit unions, non-profit or non-governmental (NGOs and commercial banks). To analyse the enabling environment for the three business models three types of factors are distinguished: macroeconomic policy, institutional, and geographical. Multinomial logistic regression is applied to investigate the impact of these external conditions. The authors use data on 1790 MFIs in selected African countries (MIX Market) and global socioeconomic data of these countries. Their findings reveal that irrespective geographic location, cooperatives feature in countries with civil law systems, low inflation rates and high levels of economic growth. Commercial MFIs (banks) feature particularly in the countries with common law legal systems. NGO type MFIs are associated with high inflation rates and low levels of economic growth.

The data were obtained by face-to-face interviews with the 367 cooperative members in Balıkesir, Bursa and Çanakkale province. Participation of members in the cooperative management of the situation revealed non-parametric statistical methods, logistic regression analysis method and fuzzy paired comparison method were used. 56,25% of the members think as, "states should be effective in reaching decisions on the cooperative". According to logistic regression analysis young partners tend to think that way than older partners. Only 20% of members who didn’t take task in the cooperative management, want to take task in the cooperative management in future. These members follow-up agricultural meetings and use internet for reach agricultural information. 45% of members joined last cooperative management meeting.
