The review article examines the basic principles of coping strategies for dealing with stress. More important coping strategies are considered. Several new copying strategies have been described, missing in the scientific literature. These strategies are often used by stressed patients without realizing that these are unhealthy coping strategies that often deepen the problems rather than solve them. The psychologist's job is to identify and discontinue them if there is a clear desire on the part of the client. Abstract:
Objectives: Prior research stresses the importance of effective coping strategies for positive adaptation, enhanced resilience, personal growth, and increased psychological health. Unfortunately, little research has investigated how Koreans with physical disabilities dealt with the COVID-19 pandemic. We aimed to identify coping strategies and resources that Koreans with physical disabilities applied during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: Using a purposeful criterion sampling strategy, we conducted semi-structured indepth interviews. A total of 15 participants (11 men and 4 women) who were between 22 and 65 years of age participated in the study. Content mapping and content mining questions were used. We analyzed data qualitatively using the constant comparative method to generate emergent themes. Results: To deal with various COVID-related challenges, we identified 3 salient themes used as coping strategies by participants: (1) engaging in meaningful activities, (2) improving social and emotional support, and (3) experiencing resilience. Conclusions: Our findings address qualitative evidence that Korean adults with spinal cord injury (SCI) actively engaged in various activities, maintained and developed closer relationships, and experienced resilience to deal with COVID-19 related stressors. These strategies suggest the importance of effective coping strategies and resources as a catalyst for health and wellbeing of people with SCI.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the analysis of the results of theoretical and empirical research of students’ coping strategies and the connection of coping with the preservation of productivity and high functionality in stressful situations (in relation to the results of diagnosis of students’ procrastination). Theoretical analysis of the specifics of the effectiveness of coping strategies is presented. The empirical study involved 66 students of 2-4 courses. Diagnosis of coping tension was performed using the Ways of Coping Questionnaire, WCQ (R. Lazarus) and "Tuckman General Procrastination Scale (adapted by T. L. Kryukova)". The results of an empirical study of students' coping have been analyzed. It has been found that the most often behavioral strategies to which students apply are: planning (57.5%) and positive reassessment (56.6%); the search for social support, acceptance of responsibility and self-control are equally pronounced (31.8%); distancing, avoidance, and confrontational coping are less common. The severity and dominance of coping strategies in groups of respondents with different levels of procrastination have been analyzed. According to the results, the most developed behavioral strategies for students with low procrastination are positive reassessment and planning (the latter is more often represented by the dominant strategy). Among the group with a medium level of procrastination, these two copings are also equally pronounced. However, there is a lack of tension in other, active behavioral strategies. Among people with a high level of procrastination, the statistical predominance of one or another coping is not recorded, we widely observe the severity of only one or two strategies, or low tension of all presented copings. After analyzing the dominant copings of people with low procrastination, a hypothesis was formulated about the possible inverse correlation between the severity of positive revaluation and procrastination, the test was performed by mathematical data processing (Spearman's correlation analysis). No significant correlations were found, so the hypothesis was not confirmed. The results of empirical research can be used both to develop recommendations, developmental and educational activities aimed at preventing the decline in productivity and efficiency, and to highlight the understudied topic of the links between coping strategies and the phenomenon of procrastination.

Objective - What are the work-related issues which contribute to police constables stress? How do police constables get rid of their stress? Because stress and copings are the two most important factors that influence work-related wellbeing. This paper aims to understand the theoretical framework of police stress and coping procedures. The ideas that make up this system can be used in the appraisal, intervention, and assessment of the police stress reaction and the coping forms utilised after stressful situations. Methodology/Technique - 492 Tamil Nadu state police constables were chosen randomly. Information was gathered utilising two self-report questionnaires which include questionnaire related to police stress and coping strategies. Researcher measured the reliability and validity of the multiple-item research scales by analysing the measurement model using confirmatory factor analysis. Correlation analysis investigative the relationship between police stress and coping strategies, it found that it was positive and significant. Further, the researcher used the SEM approach to testing the relationship between police stress and coping strategies. Findings – SEM approach concludes that overall police stress influences self-supported emotional focused coping strategies positively and that overall police stressors have a positive impact on social supported emotional focused coping strategies. Furthermore, there is a positive impact on overall stress and problem-focused coping and avoidant coping strategies. Novelty - The outcomes can be utilised to help researchers and policy makers foresee police work execution and aid government consider police's identity attributes. Abstract:
The article considers the features of coping strategies in adolescence. The article aim is to study and analyze adolescents’ coping strategies and the coping features characteristic for delinquent adolescents. To achieve this goal, the authors solved the following tasks: to analyze the peculiarities of coping behavior in adolescence and to determine its connection with behavioral disorders, to identify life situations especially difficult for adolescents, to identify leading coping strategies in adolescents and to conduct comparative analysis of coping strategies used by delinquent adolescents and adolescents with normative behavior. The authors analyzed maladaptive coping strategies: confrontation strategy, escape-avoidance strategy, distancing strategy; as well as adaptive coping strategies: positive reassessment, self-control and responsibility, social support and planning. Overcoming difficult life situations requires mobilization of personal resources, which is manifested in coping strategies. Their features largely depend on personal characteristics, life experience and situational factors that determine the individual uniqueness of mastering strategies. Among the variety of coping strategies, there are emotional, cognitive and behavioral coping. The coping strategies that focus on problem solving, seeking social support and avoidance are basic. The authors conducted the study with two groups of adolescents with normative and delinquent behavior and found that adolescents with normative behavior, unlike delinquents, were not prone to aggressive efforts and risks in solving difficult situations. At the same time, delinquent adolescents were characterized by maladaptive coping strategies. Copings are aimed at adapting a person to the requirements of a situation, mitigating its requirements, avoiding or getting used to them. In general, it reduces the impact of a difficult situation, ensures and maintains an individual’s physical and mental health, well-being, and satisfaction with social relations. The obtained results indicate that adolescents with normative behavior in difficult life situations are more active in making arbitrary, problem-focused efforts to change the situation; they make more efforts to analyze ways to solve the problem than delinquent adolescents. Adolescents with normative behavior are prone to: planning, positive reassessment, self-control, acceptance of responsibility, and also have a low level of stress in copings. Delinquents clearly have a tendency to the maladaptive “avoiding problem” strategy. They are prone to confrontation, avoidance, detonation. Delinquent adolescents experience more difficult situations. The coping system of adolescents with delinquent behavior is more intense, which indicates that they experience higher levels of stress. In adolescence, coping behavior is actively formed and is a prerequisite for psychological well-being. It aims to improve adolescents’ adaptation and is manifested through a set of coping strategies. The studied causes of delinquent behavior show that they are closely related to coping strategies. When delinquency is development, maladaptive behavioral patterns are formed that prevent adequate coping with stressful situations. This is confirmed by the data obtained during the study. A comparison of coping strategies of the studied groups shows a qualitative difference in the structure of coping in difficult life situations for adolescents with normative and delinquent behavior. The data obtained will expand the understanding of the causes underlying adolescents’ destructive behavior. The authors’ study is of practical importance, its results can be used by psychologists and social educators to identify ways to optimize mental development of all adolescents and adolescents with delinquent behavior, in particular through the purposeful formation of more effective coping strategies.

Abstract:
The aim of the study was to assess the coping strategies used in the context of resilience among elementary school teachers. A cross-sectional survey was conducted with 197 elementary school teachers. To assess coping strategies, the COPE questionnaire in the Polish adaptation of S. Piatek and K. Wrześniewski. Resilience was measured using the Teachers' Resilience Scale (TRS) by M. Platsidou and A. Danilidou in a Polish adaptation by M. Boczkowska. The study showed that resilience statistically significantly differentiates the applied stress coping strategies among elementary school teachers, but only in terms of the strategies "Focus on the problem" and "Denial". The results allow us to conclude that elementary school teachers demonstrating high levels of resilience in the face of stressful events do not focus only on them, but rather activate other coping strategies that facilitate positive adaptation.

Abstract:
The aim of this study is to analyse the type of coping strategies used by patients with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). For that purpose, two groups of war veterans (40 subjects in each group) were compared. The first group was made up of patients with PTSD, and the second (control) group comprised veterans who suffered combat trauma, but did not show any PTSD symptoms. Coping strategies were assessed using the Questionnaire of Coping Responses (McCrae, 1984).The results show that out of 118 items (examples of coping strategies) 10 show statistically significant differences between the group with PTSD and the one without it. PTSD patients used more maladaptive strategies (avoidance, pseudo-planning, fantasizing, impulsive and depressive behaviour), while subjects from the control group were more likely to use the strategy of controlling impulses.

The present study examined coping strategies for cyber victimization among 270 (130 women) emerging adults, and how these strategies related to cyber aggression one year later (Time 2). The most frequently utilized coping strategies among emerging adults were telling one's friends and ignoring the aggressor. The coping strategies of telling no one, getting revenge against the aggressor, pretending it didn't happen, waiting for the aggressor to stop, and crying were related to cyber victimization one year later. Blocking the aggressor and getting revenge against the aggressor were associated with Time 2 cyber aggression perpetration. Tell my friends related negatively to their involvement in cyber aggression. This research has implications for interventions aimed at reducing these behaviors among emerging adults.

Stress is believed to be a state of the mind as well as the body, created by certain biochemical reactions in the human body as well as psychological responses to situations, and is reflected by a sense of anxiety, tension and depression and is caused by such demands by the environmental forces or internal forces that cannot be met by the resources available to the person. The greater the gap between the demands and the resources, the greater is the degree of stress. Some of the individual strategies for coping with stress include: readjustment of life goals, support from family and friends, planning certain events of life in advance and keeping the body in good physiological shape by proper diet, exercise, yoga, meditation and biofeedback. Some of the organizational strategies for coping with stress include organized health maintenance facilities as a part of the organizational life, matching of employees qualifications with job requirements, job enrichment and job work redesigns, equitable performance appraisal and reward systems, participation in organizational decision making and building team spirit in the sense that there should be no interpersonal conflict within the group. All these strategies or a combination thereof should be applied to make the work environment less stressful to a level which is positive and challenging.

Abstract:
The authors analyze various approaches to the problem of factors that determine a child’s success in the educational process. The contradictory nature of modern research on this issue is established. There is no consensus on the impact of coping strategies on a child’s academic and creative success. The purpose of the study is to determine coping strategies of teachers with various experience levels and specialties that affect the success of children in the educational process. The sample consists of 314 teachers in Irkutsk with various experience levels and specialties. The authors utilize the methods “The Ways of Coping Questionnaire” by R. Lazarus and S. Folkman, “Methodology for determining individual coping strategies” by E. Heim as well as the analysis of the teachers’ professional results submitted for certification. It is found that the success of students depends on the coping strategies used by their teachers of various experience levels and specialties. In general, students are more successful if pedagogues use productive coping mechanisms. However, in some cases, due to the specialty and experience of teaching staff, unproductive copings can be efficient for learning. For subject teachers, the “Distancing” strategy can be efficient, which is an unproductive coping strategy. At the same time, the strategy “Seeking social support”, which is a productive coping mechanism, is inefficient for teachers of additional education. The results obtained are compared with other authors’ conclusions (W.F. Admiraal, K.C. Herman, M.M. Kashapov, etc.). The authors explain the discovered features of coping mechanisms for the success of children. The limitations of the study and possible further research areas are discussed.

Abstract:
The COVID-19 pandemic has forced the human psyche to intensify the protection mechanisms and coping strategies to optimally cope with the problem situation. The aim of the article was to study the peculiarities of the use of mental defense mechanisms and coping strategies by students in quarantine isolation caused by COVID-19, and their comparison with the protections and copings used by students before the pandemic. The study involved 108 students (future psychologists and preschool teachers). The sample is homogeneous. The average age of the subjects was 18.4 years. The empirical study used the following techniques: “Ways of Coping Questionnaire” (WCQ; Folkman & Lazarus, 1988); The Life Style Index (LSI; Plutchik et al., 1979); “SVF120” (Janke & Erdmann, 1997). Methods of descriptive statistics, Spearman correlation analysis and Mann-Whitney U were used. Mathematical data processing and graphical representation of the results were performed using the computer software package SPSS 22.0. The results of our study confirmed the hypotheses of the work on the connection of protection mechanisms with copings and on the change in the quantity and quality of protection mechanisms and coping strategies in a situation caused by quarantine isolation compared to the usual life of students. In general, this suggests a mutually reinforcing effect of copings and protections in order to effectively influence the adaptation of the individual to the circumstances through COVID-19. Understanding this pattern can help improve students' mental protection by using more mature and adequate life situations in COVID-19 protections and copings.

Abstract:
The problem of adaptation to difficult life situations is crucial for the current period of society development. The study of family coping as a support mechanism makes it possible to expand the understanding of adaptation mechanisms. The question of joint coping is connected with characteristics of social interaction, role behavior, degree of internality of the person, overcoming strategies. Cognition-based, emotion-based and behavior-based joint copings are distinguished. Family stress is the development of individual stress, with increased demands on the social and psychological resources of the family. The conducted research includes the analysis of personal features: self-relationships, coping strategies, psychological defenses, quality of life assessment, tendency to freeloading, degree of subjective control, and family features, which include factors of family environment and marital coping. The novelty of the research is associated with the definition of personal and interpersonal predictors of marital coping styles. The methods of mathematical statistics have been applied. The author concludes that the style of marital coping is associated with both the resources of the individual and the situation, and, directly, the ways of coping, which are characteristic of the individual. Resourcefulness has been studied both in terms of personal adaptation mechanisms and characteristics of family environment.

ABSTRACT This study aims to analyze coping strategies and its effect on psychological distress amongst students of CamEd Business School. A literature review was conducted to review commonly used coping strategies, their effects on psychological distress and the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on experienced psychological distress. The study measured psychological distress and the use of coping strategies of 401 respondents from CamEd business school using the perceived stress scale and Brief-COPE. Current experienced psychological distress in this population was found to be significantly higher compared with the norm group (M = 14.2), t(400) = 29.579, p = .000. Regarding coping styles this study found that Problem focused coping was most used in this population (M = 2.69), followed by Emotional focused coping (M = 2.42) and then Avoidant coping (M = 2.08). No significant relationships were found between any of the three copings styles and psychological distress. Findings of elevated psychological distress are in line with the raise in mental health problems globally since the COVID-19 pandemic. The findings regarding coping styles suggest the cultural differences between collectivistic and individualistic cultures regarding used coping styles and its effect on psychological distress. These findings support the growing evidence of people from collectivistic cultures having different coping strategies and interactions with psychological distress compared with individualistic cultures. The problem faced by contract employees is uncertainty about the continuity of their work, which creates work pressure. Individuals who experience work pressure will take steps which are known as coping. This research aims to analyze the influence of individual employee coping choices on their performance. It is hoped that the research results can provide input for human resource management policies, especially in dealing with contract employees. The coping strategies studied consisted of problem-focused coping, emotion-focused coping and religious coping. The research was conducted on employee class students at Mercu Buana University, Jakarta, involving 100 respondents. The highest score of coping carried out by respondents was positive religious coping, followed by problem-based coping, emotion-based coping, and negative religious coping. The research results show that religious coping is positive, problem-based coping has a positive and significant effect on employee performance, and negative emotion-based coping also has a positive and significant effect on performance, respectively. Negative religious coping has a negative and significant effect on performance.

The article is an analysis of theoretical and empirical modern research in the field of coping behavior with difficult life situations (DLS) and psychological well-being of primary school children. It is stated that copings in primary school age have a pronounced age specificity. Objective. The sources of DLS and coping strategies of younger schoolchildren are systematized. Methods. Theoretical analysis of domestic and foreign studies of coping behavior with DLS in primary school age. Results. Two groups of the DLS genesis are identified in which the coping behavior of children is actualized — the first one is related to the environment (academic, natural, etc.), the second is related to interpersonal interactions (relationships with teachers, peers, etc.). Depending on the group, the corresponding coping strategies are identified. The conclusion is made firstly about the risk groups for non-coping with stress in primary school age and secondly about the need to form effective strategies that are insufficiently formed.

This study examined the effectiveness of the reported coping responses utilized by 318 U.S. and 404 Korean athletes based on the Outcome model (i.e., considers perceived immediate and long-term outcomes) and the Goodness-of-Fit model (i.e., considers the fit between situational appraisal and coping strategies employed). Intercollegiate athletes provided information regarding frequency of psychological difficulties experienced during competition, their perceived controllability over such difficulties, and the reported coping strategies utilized to counter this particular stressor. Recursive path analyses revealed that both Active/Problem-Focused and Avoidance/Withdrawal coping were deemed immediately effective during competition. Active/Problem-Focused and Avoidance/Withdrawal coping strategies were, respectively, positively and negatively associated with all three long-term variables. Results partially supported the Goodness-of-Fit model among both Korean and U.S. athletes.

This article considers coping strategies as a resource for an individual in a difficult life or stressful situation. The article gives the definition of coping behavior. Situations are given that, according to the results of research by I. M. Nikolskaya and R. M. Granovskaya, are stressful for children and require the use of coping strategies to cope with them. Such situations are: loss, illness and death of an animal; low school performance; injuries and life-threatening situations; adult problems, including material ones; conflict situations in the family; loss of a loved one, his illness; other fears and stressful situations. These authors also are considering the main ways for children and adults to cope with stressful situations. Children are more inclined to use the following coping methods: active involvement in the resolution of the current situation (correction of the assessment, a step towards reconciliation with a friend); search for social support (search for people who can listen, understand, support, give advice); concentration on your own desires (satisfaction of what you really wanted for some time); abstraction from the situation, withdrawal; analyzing the situation and giving it a new meaning. The features of coping strategies in childhood are emphasized. It is noted that coping strategies used by children develop in the family and depend on the coping behavior of parents or other significant people. The article is considering the researches of a number of authors devoted to the study of the dynamics of coping behavior of students from early childhood to adolescence. The difference in the preferred ways of coping with difficult situations, depending on the gender of the child in each age period, is emphasized. This article presents the results of the study of coping strategies used by children of senior adolescence. In total, 54 schoolchildren, students of grades 9-11, took part in the study. The methodology “Strategies for overcoming stressful situations” (SACS) by S. Hobfoll, adapted by N. Vodopyanova and E. Starchenkova, was used as a diagnostic material. The questionnaire contains nine models of coping behavior: “Assertive actions”, “Entering into social contact”, “Search for social support”, “Cautious actions”, “Impulsive actions”, “Avoidance”, “Indirect actions”, “Asocial actions”, “Aggressive actions”. Among high school students, high rates are noted on the scales of “avoidance”, “asocial actions”, “aggressive actions”. The rest of the scales are dominated by average indicators. Accordingly, older students in stressful situations tend to react aggressively to problems, blame the people around them for what is happening, and also ignore the situation, behave as if nothing had happened, and avoid thinking about a problem situation. They put themselves above all others, they believe that only their opinion is correct. By the study the general index of constructiveness of coping strategies, it is noted that the majority of the subjects have an average level of constructiveness, which indicates that, in general, they are able to cope with stressful situations without negative consequences in the future.

Cancer survivors manage their new status using a multitude of coping mechanisms. Coping strategies vary by individual, but are also socioculturally mediated. Scarce evidence on coping strategies adopted by Hispanic male cancer survivors (HMCS) is available to date. The purpose of this study was to explore the reaction to diagnosis and subsequent coping strategies employed by HMCS. Data were gathered through focus groups ( n = 18), cognitive interviews ( n = 12), and phone interviews ( n = 84). Coping strategies included positive attitudes, humor, optimism and social support, use of home remedies, lifestyle changes, and faith. Findings are consistent with research on non-cancer-related coping showing that HMCS use active coping strategies, such as religion and support from family and friends. The analysis of existing strategies and needs points to the need to develop evidence-based psychosocial services that build on strengths and coping behaviors already employed by HMCS.

Purpose This study aims to develop and test a new formative theory of coping intelligence (CI). It asserts that problem- and emotion-focused coping strategies contribute differently to the overall CI latent construct, which, in turn, relates to three outcome variables – job satisfaction, life satisfaction and sales commission. Design/methodology/approach The study collected data from multiple sources: survey data from 452 boundary-spanning salespeople and sales commission from a company’s personnel record. It then investigated the goodness of fit between the study’s theoretical SEM model and empirical data. Findings Problem-focused coping and emotion-focused coping strategies, respectively, define CI positively and negatively. This, in turn, is related to high levels of job satisfaction, life satisfaction and sales commission. After controlling for gender and sales commission, results remain significant. Commission is related to satisfaction. Gender (male) is negatively related to emotion-focused strategy, but positively related to commission. Males have higher sales commission than females, yet both genders have similar life and job satisfaction. Practical implications Problem-focused coping contributes to life satisfaction, job satisfaction and sales commission, but emotion-focused coping undermines them. Researchers and policymakers need to develop training programs, promote problem-focused coping strategies and help them improve life satisfaction, job satisfaction and sales commission, for females, in particular. Originality/value CI is more related to job satisfaction and life satisfaction than to commission. The study’s concurrent validity demonstrates that CI improves sales commission (objective data) and employee satisfaction. It pays to improve CI.

AbstractIn DSM-IV, problem gambling is associated with symptoms such as escape, denial, and chasing. However, these symptoms could actually be underlying coping strategies that contribute to the problems associated with gambling behaviour. To address relationships between coping strategies and gambling problems, 65 participants (37 males and 28 females) with a mean age of 37 completed the South Oaks Gambling Screen (SOGS), and questionnaires addressing coping strategies, mood states, and dissociative experiences. Specific subscales addressing coping strategies relevant to DSM-IV symptoms were examined, namely Distancing, Escape-Avoidance and Confrontative Coping. Although fantasy and denial feature in the behaviours of problem gamblers, dissociative tendencies were only indirectly linked to problem gambling status. Instead, problem gambling status was related to depression and greater tendencies towards Confrontative Coping and Distancing. The present data demonstrates several distinct factors associated with gambling problems and suggests confrontation could have a role in problem gambling.

During the examination period, students experience a state of stress generated both by the exams themselves and by the fear of getting bad grades and implicitly a failure. This problem needs to be taken into consideration, not only because of the high percentage of students who suffer from it, but also because it has a negative effect on academic performance and self-esteem. Through this article, we tried to identify coping strategies used by students to cope with the exam stress (before, during and after the exam). We used the focus group technique on 32 students (divided into 4 groups). The students are from The Bucharest University of Economic Studies and they are enrolled in the pedagogical training module. Following the centralization of the opinions expressed during the discussions, we grouped the coping strategies into four categories: general coping (used during the semester), coping methods used before the exam (in the exam period), coping methods used during the exam itself, and coping methods used after the exam. As a result of this study, we believe that students and teachers have raised awareness of the importance of using positive coping strategies to lessen the stress associated with exams. The initiative to organize student stress management workshops was also launched
