Adherent Cu films were electrodeposited onto polycrystalline W foils from purged solutions of 0.05 M CuSO4 in H2SO4 supporting electrolyte and 0.025 M CuCO3∙Cu(OH)2 in 0.32 M H3BO3 and corresponding HBF4 supporting electrolyte, both at pH = 1. The dimeric complexes (n5-C5H5)M(CO)3 2 (where M = W or Mo) and (H3C{ti5-C5H4})Mo(CO)3 2 have been treated with XeF2 in organic solvents. All three materials react to form air sensitive products which solid-phase IR studies show to contain highly oxidised metal carbonyl components. Complexes of the type MX(η²-NO₃)(CO)₂(PPh₃)₂, (M = Mo, X = Cl, Br; M = W, X = Br) were prepared from the reactions of MX₂(CO)₂(PPh₃)₂ with ammonium nitrate in acetone. The complexes were characterized by elemental analyses, ¹⁵N labelling, infrared and NMR spectroscopy. The nitrate ligand is bidentate and the complexes are seven-coordinate. Novel nitrite complexes of molybdenum and tungsten of the type M(NO₂)₂(PPh₃)₂ were prepared. Evidence is reported for the formation of carbon-containing contamination products at the copper-tungsten (Cu-W) interface during the metal organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) of copper on tungsten. Cu(II)bishexafluoroacetylacetonate [Cu(hfac)_2] was physisorbed onto lightly oxidized tungsten (WO_x) at 115K, under ultra-high vacuum conditions, and then annealed sequentially to higher temperatures. W(NAr)(CH2-t-Bu)3(OR) appears to be formed when the alcohol has a relatively low pKa.

Thermolysis of Cp*W(NO)(CH ₂CMe₃) ₂,CpW(NO)(CH ₂CMe₃)₂, Cp*W(NO)(CH₂SiMe₃)(η²-CPhCH₂), or Cp*W(NO)[CH(Ph)CH₂CH(nPr)CH₂]in cyclic olefins results in the formation of ring-retaining oligomers having lengths up to dodecamers. The main cyclohexene dimer is 3-cyclohexylcyclohexene. A small percentage of oligomers contain neopentyl or CH=CHPh end groups. Turnover frequencies for the Cp*-tungsten precatalysts range from 5.5 to 6.5 mol/h at 100 °C.
