POZZI, STEFANIA. "IL NETWORK DELL'ATTACCAMENTO NELLA FASE DELLA COPPIA ADULTA." Doctoral thesis, Università degli Studi di Milano-Bicocca, 2017. http://hdl.handle.net/10281/180725.
Full textAttachment networks, or the set of figures relied on for attachment features and functions (proximity seeking, separation protest, safe haven, secure base), changes across the lifespan according to critical events, in which pair bonds play a significant role. However, researchers gave little attention to committed couples after the dating phase and to non-normative critical events that couples may encounter. This study aims to explore attachment networks in adult couples who differ in parenting planning and relationship status. Attachment networks were assessed with a WHOTO adaptation developed by Doherty & Feeney (2004) and, thus, defined in terms of the reliance on type of target for attachment functions (i.e., proximity seeking, separation protest, safe haven, secure base), attachment strength to each figure (i.e., the average reliance on targets for the four functions), presence of a primary figure (i.e., the figure with whom participants reported the strongest attachment), and full-blown attachment (i.e., all functions are assigned to the same figure). Participants were 238 couples (N= 476 individuals) who were cohabiting (31.9%) or married, either expecting their first child (N = 202) childless-by-choice (N = 144) or infertile (N = 130). Results indicated that romantic partners were the most relevant figure in the attachment network; other figures (i.e., parents, siblings, friends, relatives) were less relevant than partners, and differed as to their functions. Attachment networks differed as a function of parenting choice (most of the differences were found for attachment to mothers, fathers, and siblings) and, less highly, relationship status (cohabiting couples reported more proximity seeking to their partners and less proximity to their relatives, than married ones). These findings will be discussed according to the developmental attachment perspective and the family life cycle model.

Full textThe present work is focused on dyadic coping, that is the way partners manage as a couple the stress they encounter in their everyday life (Bodenmann, 1997, 2000, 2005). The first objective of the present research was to examine in a sample of Italian couples (N = 778 participants) the factorial structure of a self-report instrument designed to measure partners’ dyadic coping tendency (Dyadic coping Questionnaire by Bodenmman, 1997, 2000). Findings from the first study of the present work confirmed the multidimensional nature of the scale, in line with Bodenmnann’s theory. In particular, it emerged a more detailed definition of positive dyadic coping responses, as compared to negative ones. Despite the importance of dyadic coping for the well-being of the relationship as well as of the partners themselves, little is known on how this competence originates. The second objective of the present research was then to explore two possible sources of dyadic coping acquisition by examining whether and how young adults prior to marriage were similar to 1) their parents and 2) their partners in their dyadic coping tendency (N = 764 participants). Moreover, similarities with parents and with partners were compared in light of the specific stage of the relationship partners were living (cfr. Study 2). Similarity was computed adopting an idiographic approach via intraclass correlations and stereotype adjustment was performed in order to take into account the impact of partners and parents shared cultural background on similarity. For the purpose of the present work both stereotypical and unique similarities were considered meaningful and then examined simultaneously. Study 3 was aimed at further exploring the parent-child similarities emerged from study 2 by assessing whether and how parent-child similarity in dyadic coping differed as a function of parents and children’s gender and whether they were associated with children’s perceptions of the kind of models their parents represented for their lives. Results highlight that both parent-child and partners’ similarities were significant and differently modulated as a function of the different dimensions of dyadic coping considered, children’s gender as well as the kind of dyadic coping models parents represented for their children. Future paths of research and implications for intervention were discussed.

Full textThe present research project focused on capitalization, that is the process through which people share good news with the partner, who in turn responds in an “active” way to maximize the benefits of the event. Three different studies approached this research object through different methodologies. The aims of the first study were to investigate, through a cross-sectional design, the structure of the Perceived Responses to Capitalization Attempts (PRCA) scale and to examine, through a longitudinal design, the intrapersonal and interpersonal benefits arising from the capitalization responses over time. The second and the third study, through diary methods, attempted to investigate two unexplored aspects of the capitalization process: the differentiation of the type of positive events (internal vs. external to the couple) and the distinction of the type of communication of the event (implicit vs. explicit). Specifically, the second study focused on the first two elements of the capitalization process (positive events and attempts to capitalization), while the third study concerned the last two elements of the process (responses to capitalization attempts and responsiveness).

Full textThe present dissertation refers to the theoretical background known in the literature as Empirically Supported Therapy Relationships, a research tradition focused on the relationship and its nature, beyond the outcome and process research opposition. The three studies included in this work focused on different portions of treatment: respectively the initial intake session, the first two sessions, and the overall treatment. In the first study different outcomes were compared in order to examine if the effects of interpretations were connected to specific factors of psychotherapeutic process. The second study aimed to assess clinical cases of premature termination, differentiated on the basis of the contract attainment: the purpose was to depict specificities due to the different phase of dropping out. Finally, the third study was a single-case research examining alliance ruptures within an entire clinical process of forty sessions.

Full textIn Western culture, social partner dances have re-emerged as a leisure activity for young and adults since the 90’s. This sociological research concerns social partner dancing events taking place in public spaces in Milan nowadays, especially in the city centre. They are organized through online social networks by groups of dancers who occupy the public space without any formal license and any profit-mindedness; Argentinian tango, French mazurka, swing, and Southern Italian dances are the types of dances involved. The underlying assumption is that these street events are part of a unique social phenomenon. By means of an at home perspective to participant observation, semistructured, and in-depth interviews, this work aims, firstly, to find specific meanings to this practice by comparing it to partner dances performed in institutional places; and secondly, to identify the role of public space in this framework. The collective sociality dimension of meaning has been chosen as a key to interpretation, since it stood out for complexity and relevance. This urban practice turns out to be a kind of simmelian sociability and an environment to experience a group intimacy produced by extemporary interactions of acquaintances; of which urban public spaces, furthermore, prove to be a perfect theatre to its full expression.

Full textSelf-enhancement is a self-motive which pushes individuals to increase positive self-views and to protect their self-concept from negative information. Two mechanisms associated with the self-enhancement motive, positive illusions and the self-serving bias, will be analyzed in the context of couple relationship. Positive illusions deal with the tendency to perceive one’s relationship favorably when compared to the couple relationship of the average other. The self-serving bias relates to the tendency to make internal responsibility attributions for positive events but to make external responsibility attributions for negative events; however, when individuals collaborate with a close partner on an interdependent-outcome task, they refrain from self-serving attributions or even manifest the other-serving bias. These mechanisms serve the purpose of maintaining and protecting a relationship that is central in one’s couple identity. The present work will also focus on the influence that an insidious parental behavior like intrusive parenting exerts on these two biases pro-relationship and, consequently, on couple identity. Study 1 and 2 are dedicated to the examination of couple positive illusions in couples in transition to marriage whereas study 3 investigates the self-serving bias in dating partners.

Full textMy research deal with the economic implications of relationships of intimacy, care and support not based on kinship or couple ties. Relying upon a feminist and queer epistemology, I researched the experience of various affective networks: friends, flatmates, lovers in non normative sexual relationships, comrades from networks of grassroot activism among others. My aim is to understand how the relationship between productive and reproductive labor works in this context . My ethnographic inquiry focuses more specifically on the ways in which “life is put at labor” in the experience of the subjects, myself included. This research is intertwined with the self inquiry on “other intimacies”, work and self organized mutual support promoted by the network “SomMovimento NazioAnale”. The Network is composed of transfeminist and queer collectives and single activists . Fieldwork was conducted in urban areas of center and northen Italy with people approximately 30-50 years old who did not organize their lives around a couple relationship, nor on persisting strong ties with their families of origin. They rather organize their livesby relying on different relationships of love, care and intimacies. They are lesbians, gays, trans*, cisgender women and men who had homosexual or heterosexual relationships. The lesbian and ftm/ft* experience has been carefully investigated.

Full textPsychological problems during infertility treatment were analyzed from the stress model prospective. In the first part of the work possible effects of anxiety and psychological stress on semen quality among patients undergoing IVF first attempt were explored. Several studies (ferin 2007) provide evidences for a significant decline in semen quality because of the activation of the hypothalamic-pituitary – adrenal ( HPA) axis , during stress and over or latent psychological disturbances, that have the potential of inhibiting the hypothalamic- pituitary- gonadal axis( HPG). In this study we also investigate the potential negative effects on DNA fragmentation, mediated by an over production of ROS in seminal plasma because of the stress activation. In our results total sperm count seems to decrease in high anxiety scores patients if compare with the low anxiety group. Others important biological parameters seems not to be influenced by anxiety and stress. In the second part stress model has been used to single out uncomfortable characteristics of the infertility treatment and to identify the most useful coping strategies . A study based on 100 interviews explore expectations and needs about psychological support in ART patients. Based on these results it has been presented a project of psychological service in an ART centre.

Full textThe thesis is a contribution to the study of the economic implications of fertility intentions and desires and of the economic aspects of the fertility decision making process. Precisely, it is based on three autonomous chapters and it aims at understanding: a) for women and for individuals within the couples the interplay between fertility and labour market preferences (with a particular focus on the role of women's sector of employment), and the influences that the (un)balanced division of domestic duties play on the intentions of becoming parents for another time in Italy; b) for couples living together the determinants of their (dis)agreement about the intention of becoming parents again; and c) for couples that disagree on future fertility plans, the determinants of female’s contrasting attitude towards her partners’ positive fertility intention. The dissertation uses a mixed-method design- a strategy based on survey data analysis as well as in-depth interviews analysis: this approach allows investigating the topic from different perspectives, by means of both quantitative and qualitative research methods in order to provide new insights into the phenomenon of interest.
