Abstract:
From 1849 to 1851, Canada’s first international literary celebrity, the Mississauga writer Kahgegagahbowh, or George Copway, travelled the United States, Great Britain and Europe promoting his vision for the future of Indigenous peoples in the United States. Building on a theological critique of settler colonialism, he called for the creation of a new Indigenous territory west of the Mississippi led by a legislature made up of English-speaking Indigenous Christians. Copway believed that through the establishment of this territory he called Kahgega, European settlers would be able to atone for the sins committed against Indigenous North Americans, thus escaping the impending wrath of God. More importantly, believing that Indigenous peoples faced imminent extinction, he saw Kahgega as a permanent means of preserving his people and safeguarding their shrinking lands and political agency. Though Kahgega failed to impress the public, Copway’s vision offers a fascinating window into an early attempt at reconciling the Indigenous and non-Indigenous halves of North American society. Using the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s definition of ‘reconciliation’, this article shows that past, often failed, Indigenous political visions reveal the complexities and tensions inherent in dialogue surrounding reconciliation.

Abstract:
After squanto taught the colonists at Plymouth in 1620 “both the manner how to set [their corn], and after how to dress and tend it,” Indians seem to have disappeared from the American pastoral scene, except as unwelcome intruders. Seventeen years later, writes William Bradford, “the Pequots fell openly on the English at Connecticut, in the lower parts of the river, and slew sundry of them as they were at work in the fields.” Mary Rowlandson opens the story of her captivity during King Philip's War similarly, describing how the Narragansetts came out of the wilderness to attack the farmsteads at Lancaster, setting fire to buildings “with flax and hemp, which they brought out of the barn,” and later celebrated by feasting on the animals they had captured: “miserable was the waste that was there made, of horses, cattle, sheep, swine, calves, lambs, roasting pigs, and fowl (which they had plundered in the town) some roasting, some lying and burning, and some boiling to feed our merciless enemies.” These accounts — in which Indians violate the pastoral scene, killing peaceful tillers of the soil and wantonly consuming the stock that had been so carefully husbanded — suggest that in the 17th Century, despite the original beneficence of Squanto, Indian “savagery” was perceived as a threat not only to the lives of individual colonists but to agriculture itself, the foundation of the colonial economy in North America. But it was the agrarian culture of the English that turned the Indians into “savages,” for the Pequot War and King Philip's War began, as Francis Jennings has demonstrated, with the colonists' hunger for land.

Abstract:
Abstract This article explores the domestic relationships of a number of interracial couples: Kahkewaquonaby/Peter Jones and Eliza Field; Nahnebahwequa/ Catherine Sutton and William Sutton; Kahgegagahbowh/George Copway and Elizabeth Howell; and John Ojijatekah Brant-Sero, Mary McGrath, and Frances Kirby. These unions took place within the context of and, in a number of instances, because of Native peoples’ movements across a multiple boundaries and borders within British North America, Canada, and Britain. Based in both Canadian Native historiography and work in colonial and imperial history, particularly that which focuses on gender, this article argues that international networks, such as nineteenth-century evangelicalism, the missionary movement, and circuits of performance, shaped such unions and played a central, constitutive role in bringing these individuals together. However, the article also points to the importance of exploring such large-scale processes at the biographic and individual level. It points to the different outcomes and dynamics of these relationships and argues that no one category or mode of scholarly explanation can account for these couples’ fates. The article also points to multiple and varied combinations of gender, class, and race in these relationships. It thus offers another dimension to the historiography on Native-white intimate relationships in North America which, to date, has focused mostly on relationships between white men and Native or mixed-race/Métis women. The article concludes by considering how these relationships complicate our understanding of commonly used concepts in imperial history, specifically those of domesticity and home.

Abstract:
226 Background: Uninterrupted utilization of oral oncolytics is critical to maximizing safety and efficacy of cancer treatment. The COVID-19 pandemic presented numerous challenges to delivering a continuous and safe supply of oral oncolytics to patients with cancer including potential loss of insurance coverage, patient lost income making copays more difficult, remote pharmacy staffing difficulties, and logistical challenges in safely distributing drug to cancer patients. Tennessee Oncology has an in-house Specialty Pharmacy that utilizes home delivery of oral oncolytics while coordinating care with providers during changing patient situations. Methods: We analyzed patients who received an oral oncolytic from our pharmacy in two periods: January-May 2019 and January-May 2020. We compared the aggregate patient copay amounts during these periods, the number of patients who utilized copay assistance or foundational financial support. For insights on continuation we also assessed the medication possession ratios (MPR, the sum of the day’s supply for all fills of a given drug in a particular period divided by the number of days in that period) during these time periods for five of our most commonly dispensed drugs. Results: The aggregate patient copay was similar between the two time periods. A 22% increase in the utilization of copay cards indicated patient’s insurance coverage was sustained. We also observed a 12% increase in the number of patients utilizing foundation support for prescriptions filled. MPRs for five commonly dispensed oral oncolytics were unchanged during COVID-19. Conclusions: Our in-house specialty pharmacy maintained delivery of oral oncolytics during the COVID-19 pandemic. Patient cost share was contained by our pharmacy staff proactively utilizing copay cards for all eligible patients and diligently securing foundational grant support. The pharmacy interventions allowed for affordability, uninterrupted pharmacy operations, and consistent medication supply. This led to continued medication adherence. MPR for the 5 top dispensed medications was consistent in a year-on-year comparison. [Table: see text]

Abstract:
Abstract A fundamental implication of standard moral hazard models is overuse of low-value medical care because copays are lower than costs. In these models, the demand curve alone can be used to make welfare statements, a fact relied on by much empirical work. There is ample evidence, though, that people misuse care for a different reason: mistakes, or “behavioral hazard.” Much high-value care is underused even when patient costs are low, and some useless care is bought even when patients face the full cost. In the presence of behavioral hazard, welfare calculations using only the demand curve can be off by orders of magnitude or even be the wrong sign. We derive optimal copay formulas that incorporate both moral and behavioral hazard, providing a theoretical foundation for value-based insurance design and a way to interpret behavioral “nudges.” Once behavioral hazard is taken into account, health insurance can do more than just provide financial protection—it can also improve health care efficiency.

T-Copia is a Peruvian company with more than 40 years of trajectory, they started providing printing services in their retail stores, and years later, with the technological changes in the industry, they created its second business unit: Digital Solutions. Currently they continue with this two business units, but is one of them which is facing some issues. After reviewing the financial information and interviewing some of the employees of the company, many problems were detected, overall in the first business unit, reason why the whole project is focused in this one. The key problem in here was that during this year only six of the seven stores have achieved the profitability. After analyzing the company not only in a quantitative way, but also in a qualitative one, the conclusion was that the decrease in the sales was produced overall for the lack of training and motivation in the staff, which leaded to a poor customer service. Therefore, the proposed solutions were focused in the improvement of these two fields. Regarding the training it is important to complement the soft skills like team-work or emotional intelligence whit hard skills, given that the company’ services are very particular and require a previous knowledge to provide an accurate customer service. About the motivation, two fields have to be approached; the first one is the extrinsic, which is going to be solved by the company with the regularization of the payments to the staff. The second one is the intrinsic motivation, which is going to be addressed by the Doctrine of 20%, focused on the employees with more potential and commitment, by letting them use the 20% of their working time in innovative projects to save cost or increase the sales of the company. The propose solutions will take in consideration the financial situation of the company, and they will represent no big investment of money, because there will be an exchange of services with other companies

Abstract:
Las diez plagas I; 8.
“Edición filológica de coplas sefardíes del ciclo del Éxodo” (Philological edition of Sephardic coplas of the Exodus cycle). Corpus contains 9 “coplas” (with their respective 16 variants, ranging from 18 th century to the 20th. The balladeers (authors or re-creators and collectors of the poems) are Yeshaiya, Ruben Baruj, Sa`adi Haleví, Yosef Herrera and Ya`acob Yoná. Opening chapters is a characterization of genre (poetic) of “coplas” and, more specifically, the paraliturgical “coplas” (“coplas” of the Exodus cycle are paraliturgical ones, and they were read and chanted, among the Sephardim, during the holiday of Passover). After that, discuss will be held on research objectives of the present thesis. After the chapter on methodology taken into account in the investigation, I am doing the transcription of texts and its philological study. The “coplas” are a religious literary genre, it means that they are influenced by several sources, both rabbinic and biblical, not easy to identify. However, it is an exciting challenge. The thesis ends with the necessary conclusions, an index of words and phrases and two bibliographies: one general and one specific

Architecture is a dialogue. It is a communication between those who design and the society which they design in. The two are inseparable. The role of the designer, which I have chosen as an architect, is that of a communicator. A communicator participates in a design dialogue, which he may also initiate. He also responds and listens well to what society says. The success of the built environment comes through an improvement of this architectural dialogue. This thesis addresses the process of a public dialogue of design by initially viewing the participants in the conversation. The architect in society is an examination of the changing role of the profession of architecture, leading to many of the issues regarding communication. Society in architecture is the larger world which influences design of all forms. Design is not an exclusive ability of the design professions, but rather an element of all society. This dialogue is then studied in the context of Copley Square, located in Boston, Massachusetts. When looking at Copley Square, the physical forms are not the only reason for its success or failure, although they do play a significant part. In both designs resulting from the national competitions held in 1966 and 1983, the designers were of exceptional merit. Both designs met the objectives of their respective programs very well. What is notably different is the process which each solution was arrived at, the interchange between designer and society. Sasaki, Dawson, DeMay Associates, designer in 1966, had relatively few guidelines and very little input from the community for which they were designing. Dean Abbott, of Clarke & Rapuano, designer in 1983, was responding to a clear set of guidelines reflecting community concerns. He then proceeded to work with the local community in a set process to further articulate the design of Copley Square. Copley Square represents an example of what a design dialogue can achieve, both emotionally and physically. From this, all designers, whether professional or not, can learn.

Abstract:
Germline copy-number variants (CNVs), as well as somatic copy-number alterations (CNAs), play an important role in many phenotypic traits, including genetic diseases and cancer. Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) allows accurate detection of short variants, but reliable detection of large-scale CNVs in NGS data remains challenging. In this work, I address this issue and describe a novel statistical method for detection of CNVs and CNAs implemented in the tool called ClinCNV. I present analytical performance measures of “ClinCNV” in different datasets, compare it with the performance of other existing methods, and show the advantages of ClinCNV. ClinCNV is already implemented as a part of the diagnostics pipeline at the Institute of Medical Genetics and Applied Genomics (IMGAG), Tuebingen, Germany. ClinCNV has the potential to facilitate molecular diagnostic of genetic-based diseases as well as cancer through accurate detection of copy-number variants.

The ability to create an unlimited number of identical copies is a privilege of digital documents. What if that would not be the case, if each copy of a digital file would go along with some sort of transformation? This thesis examines the implications of such a scenario on information ecologies and map out the design space for a new type of decentralized authoring applications. The concept of the copy is inherently transformative, even if just as the transformation from "the One into the Many ". However, until the recent transition from analog to digital media, the perfectly identical copy was not possible, every reproduction resulted in transformation. While this transformation usually is associated with loss of information, it also creates new information, traces of an objects history. As a result of the ability to create of unlimited numbers of perfectly identical copies from digital files, this dimension of context information is lost - digital files do not have a history. In the course of this thesis, five examples were implemented that illustrate important properties of the concept of transformative copying, in order to propose a general framework for a sociable, transformative file format. They investigate two cases of transformation: First, transformation as a deliberate process by humans. A second dimension is transformation as an autonomous process, either in form of an imperfect copy or as a result of an objects age and usage, such as wear. Both points seem like independent cases, but in our scenario they are closely interconnected and inform each other.

Abstract:
Keywords: examen, copia, auricular, imán.

Abstract:
Abstract: The Architecture that OMA / Rem Koolhaas makes could be call like a ‘the masterly interplay of masses brought together in light’ disguised and interspersed with the complexity of the time that we are living, an architecture that must reflect our society. To make it possible, Rem appears to ‘trace’, step by step, the Le Corbusier’s path, confused and camouflaged under skillful contemporary mechanisms of ‘Copy-Paste’, selling it to the highest bidder as a ‘new architecture’ for the times to come. However, the Copy-Paste’ is not something new or now. Le Corbusier has taught us these mechanisms of “Copy-Paste” practically in all of his work, from his beginnings up to his maturity. Abstract:
Abstract: Le Corbusier´s architectural drawing 'a capriccio' reveals different operations that link he with architectural capriccio as an analytical device, critical and project, characterized by copy_paste, sometimes of his own architecture , and other modifying different principles of architectural precedents registered in the tradition. With this, creating new architectural ideal realities from “unexpected jumps”, architectural Capriccio in urban projects, architectural principles, or unique architecture as his own grave. In this way, takes up a stance 'Capriccio' as reasonable process of architectural design, although it is belongs to the 18th century, with its main exponents: Canaletto or Piranesi, is proposed as a new and contemporary interpretation with connection to conception’s process from copy, move and combine in actually multiple architectures. In 2016 24th International Conference on Nuclear Engineering. American Society of Mechanical Engineers, 2016. http://dx.doi.org/10.1115/icone24-60857.

Full text
Abstract:
Natural convection in a volumetrically heated fluid is of significant importance related to the In-Vessel Retention (IVR) issue. The COPRA facility is designed to simulate the lower plenum of reactor vessel at 1:1 scale for the Chinese advanced PWR, which is a two-dimensional 1/4 circular slice structure with an inner radius of 2.2 m. Water was used as simulant in COPRA-L1 tests. Due to the full scale geometry, The Rayleigh numbers within the corium pools could reach to 1016, matching those in the prototypical situation during severe accident. Due to the high Rayleigh numbers and high turbulence in the melt pool, we choose the Large-Eddy Simulation (LES) method to do the numerical calculations. The LES method can better capture the heat transfer characteristic in a high-Rayleigh number volumetrically heated liquid pool. The numerical results of pool temperature and heat flux distribution were compared with those from COPRA-L1 tests.

Abstract:
In hot and humid regions, removal of moisture from the air represents a considerable portion of the air conditioning load. Conventionally, air conditioning systems have to lower the air temperature below its dew point to accomplish dehumidification. Desiccant air conditioners offer a solution to meet the humidity and temperature requirements of buildings via decoupling latent and sensible loads. In this work, the performance of a new desiccant material is investigated experimentally. This desiccant material can be regenerated using a low temperature heat source, as low as 45°C. It also has a unique S-shape isotherm. The effects of the process air stream’s temperature and humidity, the regeneration temperature, the ventilation mass flow rate, and the desiccant wheel’s rotational speed on the cycle performance are investigated. ARI-humid conditions are used as a baseline and the moisture mass balance is maintained within 5%. The results are presented in terms of the moisture removal rate and latent coefficient of performance (COPlat). The results show a desiccant wheel’s COPlat higher than unity when it is coupled with an enthalpy wheel.
