Abstract:
This paper considers the issue of air pollutants emission for the optimal and sustainable determination of cordon location, toll level, and price of park and ride (P&R). Although air pollutants emission decreases within the cordon by the implementation of cordon pricing scheme, it may increase outside the cordon and the whole network. Hence, air pollutants emission may only transfer from inside of the cordon to its outside. Therefore, in this paper, a multi-objective bi-level optimization model is developed. A solution algorithm is also presented based on the second version of strength Pareto evolutionary algorithm (SPEA2). The results reveal that this multi-objective model can be a useful tool for the sustainable and optimal design of the cordon and P&R scheme. In addition, cordon pricing is a multi-objective problem. Therefore, it is necessary to consider air pollutants emission. By choosing another non-dominated result in the solution space, air pollutants emission outside the cordon and the whole network can be reduced without a significant reduction in social welfare.

Abstract:
Abstract. The COordinated Regional Downscaling EXperiment (CORDEX) is a diagnostic model intercomparison project (MIP) in CMIP6. CORDEX builds on a foundation of previous downscaling intercomparison projects to provide a common framework for downscaling activities around the world. The CORDEX Regional Challenges provide a focus for downscaling research and a basis for making use of CMIP6 global climate model (GCM) output to produce downscaled projected changes in regional climates and assess sources of uncertainties in the projections, all of which can potentially be distilled into climate change information for vulnerability, impacts and adaptation studies. CORDEX Flagship Pilot Studies advance regional downscaling by targeting one or more of the CORDEX Regional Challenges. A CORDEX-CORE framework is planned that will produce a baseline set of homogeneous high-resolution, downscaled projections for regions worldwide. In CMIP6, CORDEX coordinates with ScenarioMIP and is structured to allow cross comparisons with HighResMIP and interaction with the CMIP6 VIACS Advisory Board.

Abstract:
Own-rooted 'Seyval Blanc' vines were evaluated over 5 years in the following training systems: bilateral cordon, bilateral cordon sylvos (sylvos), upright cordon-spur pruned, and upright cordon-cane pruned. Vines in all systems were spaced 1.8 x 2.7 m and were shoot thinned to 40 shoots and cluster thinned to one cluster per shoot. Cumulative yields over 5 years of the upright cordon systems were higher than vines in the sylvos system. Average weight of cane prunings was higher in the upright cordon vines than in all other systems. Vines trained to the sylvos system had more canopy gaps, less Botrytis bunch rot, and higher juice soluble solids than other systems in some years. The chemical constituents of the must and wine or evaluation by tasting showed little influence of training system.

During a field trip to the Ramsar site “Bañados del Río Dulce y Laguna Mar Chiquita” we captured three specimens of Molossops temminckii (Burmeister, 1854) and two of Eptesicus furinalis (d’Orbigny and Gervais, 1847). Molossops temminckii has a wide distribution in Argentina, but this new record represents the second mention of the species for the Cordoba Province after 13 years. The specimens of E. furinalis represent the tenth record for Cordoba and the second for Río Primero Department. This new information reflects the scarcity of systematic studies on bats in Cordoba Province.

Abstract:
This paper discusses Cordoba as one of the most iconic cities in human history and particularly in Europe. As part of the Andalusia region in southern Spain, Cordoba was the center of many conflicts that helped in shaping the European architecture and the urban fabric. Under the Umayyad rule, Cordoba was the largest and arguably most beautiful city in the World. However, the passage of time has not been very kind to it. Unfortunately, it has suffered from severely diminished of its historical and strategic value. This paper analysed Cordoba’s history through different ages. Then, we focused on the peak of the city when it was under the Islamic rule when it became the center for culture and arts. At the end, we analysed how the city has faced a drastic architectural transformation that was carried out by the Spanish when they took control of the city during the Spanish Reconquista. We found how different cultures and religions throughout history have affected the architectural layers of Cordoba. These layers have exposed either demolish, overlap or dominate of one layer over another layer. Finally, we realized that this conflict created present Cordoba; the strong cultural, economic, touristic center in Southern Spain.

Abstract:
Decisions made during the establishment and reworking of permanent cordon arms may have long-term consequences on vineyard health and longevity. This review aims to summarise several of the important considerations that must be taken into account during cordon establishment and maintenance. Commonly practiced cordon training techniques such as wrapping developing arms tightly around the cordon wire may result in a constriction of the vascular system, becoming worse over time and disrupting the normal flow of water and nutrients. Studies have shown that other factors of cordon decline such as the onset of vascular diseases may be influenced by pre-existing stress conditions. Such conditions could be further exacerbated by water and heat stress events, an important consideration as these scenarios become more common under the influence of climate change. Vineyard sustainability may be improved by adopting cordon training techniques which promote long-term vitality and avoid a reduction in vine defence response and the costly, premature reworking of vines.

Abstract: The indigenous origin of Cordon dance in Cuba is connected to the areíto of the Taíno people from the Caribbean. The structure of Cordon, its function and relevance as a form of indigenous therapy is a new idea introduced here to this particular subject. Describing and reflecting on the process that generates indigenous dance as therapy, resurrects a Taíno dance form believed to be extinct (areíto); it brings to the forefront a dance that is practically unknown (Cordon), reframing it as a legitimate healing practice. Both the areíto and Cordon inform alternative therapeutic processes within the context of presence. The areíto, currently performed through Cordon Spiritism, more than a vital healing resource for the community in which it takes place, it is also an expression of living tainidad.

Abstract:
This study proposes a practical trial-and-error method to solve the optimal toll design problem of cordon-based pricing, where only the traffic counts autonomously collected on the entry links of the pricing cordon are needed. With the fast development and adoption of vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) facilities, it is very convenient to autonomously collect these data. Two practical properties of the cordon-based pricing are further considered in this article: the toll charge on each entry of one pricing cordon is identical; the total inbound flow to one cordon should be restricted in order to maintain the traffic conditions within the cordon area. Then, the stochastic user equilibrium (SUE) with asymmetric link travel time functions is used to assess each feasible toll pattern. Based on a variational inequality (VI) model for the optimal toll pattern, this study proposes a theoretically convergent trial-and-error method for the addressed problem, where only traffic counts data are needed. Finally, the proposed method is verified based on a numerical network example.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
In an effort to maximize early return on investment and labor efficiency, cling peach growers in California are using two different types of high-density plantings; the perpendicular-V (1.8m × 4.8m = 930 Trees/ha), and the cordon (2.4m × 4.2m = 925 Trees/ha). The V has the advantage of being more traditional in its establishment, where the cordon has the advantage of higher yields and no need for wires, props or ladders to prune, thin and pick. This study evaluated the cultural and economic considerations of the two systems with respect to their yields during the orchards' establishment years. The cumulative labor costs, specific to the style of training for the first 3 years was $1258 and $901 per hectare for the cordon and V respectively. Cumulative yields were 40.4 tons/ha for the cordon and 22.0 tons/ha for the V. When contrasting the net returns per hectare, the cordon, in spite of its higher labor input (due largely to higher thinning and harvest costs), had a net profit advantage of $3362.50 per hectare during the first 3 years of establishment.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Plant dry matter production is proportional to light interception, but fruit production does not always increase with increased light interception. Vegetative growth potential, the effect of cropping on vegetative growth, light interception and cropping efficiency of a clingstone peach [Prunus persica (L.) Batsch `Ross' on `Nemaguard' rootstock] were assessed in four production systems differing in tree density and training system. The four systems were a perpendicular V (KAC-V) system, a high-density perpendicular V (HiD KAC-V) system, a cordon system, and an open vase system. Vegetative growth potential, assessed on defruited trees, was higher in the cordon system and lower in the open vase system compared to the V systems. Cropping reduced leaf growth on the V and cordon systems and stem growth on the KAC-V and cordon systems. On a ground area basis, the HiD KAC-V system had the highest crop yields and the open vase system had the lowest. The cordon and HiD KAC-V systems intercepted more light and produced more fruit, stem, and leaf biomass than the open vase system. However, the modified harvest increment, the ratio of fruit dry mass to the sum of fruit, leaf, and stem dry mass, was lower in the cordon system than in the other systems. Thus, on this basis, the cordon system was the least efficient. On a trunk cross-sectional area basis, there were no significant differences in fruit production among any of the four training systems. For current year production, crop production per unit ground area is the best measure of economic efficiency. However, when planning the spacing, training and pruning of orchard trees, the most appropriate goal seems to be a system that increases light interception without increasing vegetative growth potential, such as the HiD KAC-V system.

<p style="text-align: justify;">Plants of <em>Vitis vinifera</em> L., cv. Albariño propagated <em>in vitro</em> were planted on their own roots and subjected to three different pruning systems, one at high level (Crosstree cordon system), one at middle level (Sylvoz system) and one at low level (Royat cordon system). Ampelographic and ampelometric characters were studied in different organs of these vines at several periods of the vegetative cycle during the 4th and 5th year.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">ln the 4th year, although the vines from the Crosstree cordon system were slightly different, all of them showed very similar characteristics, such as: leaves with deep lateral sinuses, anthocyanin pigmentation of buds, and of the dorsal face of the nodes and internodes, presence of erect hairs on the young and adult leaves and, above all, on the margin of the dentation. These features were less noticeable in leaves on the Crosstree cordon system. Flowering during the 4th year was limited resulting in the production of a low number of small grape clusters. In the high cordon system, the level of f1owering was slightly better.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">During the 5th year, a very marked difference was observed between the vines subjected to the Crosstree high cordon pruning system and those subjected to the other two systems. In the first case, the leaves show an almost total absence of erect hairs and lateral sinuses, and the number and the size of grape clusters increase significantly. The vines from Sylvoz and cordon Royat continued practically to appear the same as the previous year and flowering continued to be almost absent.</p>

Abstract:
Abstract. Two international projects, ISIMIP (Inter-Sectoral Impact Model Intercomparison Project) and CORDEX (Coordinated Regional Climate Downscaling Experiment), have been established to assess the impacts of global climate change and improve our understanding of regional climate respectively. Model selection from the GCMs (general circulation models) within CMIP5 (fifth phase of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project) was conducted using the different approaches for each project: one is a globally consistent model subset used in ISIMIP and the other is a region-specific model subset for each region of interest used in CORDEX. We evaluated the ability to reproduce the regional climatological state by comparing the subsets with the full set of CMIP5 multimodel ensemble. We also investigated how well the subsets captured the uncertainty in the climate change projected by the full set, to increase credibility for the scientific outcomes from each project. The spreads of the biases and Taylor's skill scores from the ISIMIP and CORDEX subsets are smaller than that from the full set for the regional means of surface air temperature and precipitation. However, the ISIMIP and CORDEX subsets show the larger spread than high-performance models from the full set, despite using a small number of models in ISIMIP and CORDEX. It was shown that better subsets exist that would have smaller biases and/or higher scores than the current subset. The ISIMIP subset captures the uncertainty range of the regional mean of temperature change projections by the full set better than the CORDEX subsets in 10 of 14 terrestrial regions worldwide. Compared with 10 000 randomly selected subset samples, the CORDEX subset shows low coverage of the uncertainty for the temperature change projections in some regions, and the ISIMIP subset shows high coverage in all regions. On the other hand, for the precipitation change projections, the CORDEX subsets show lower coverage in half of the regions than the randomly selected subsets, but tend to cover the uncertainty wider than the ISIMIP subset. In the regions where CORDEX used nine models or more, good coverage (>50 %) is evident for the projections of both temperature and precipitation. The globally consistent model subset used in ISIMIP could have difficulty in capturing uncertainties in the regional precipitation change projections, whereas it widely covers uncertainties in the temperature change projections. The region-specific model subset, like CORDEX, can cover the uncertainties in both temperature and precipitation changes well compared to the global common subset, but a large number of models is needed. By changing the number of models from the current ensemble members to at least nine members, high coverage for both uncertainties can be also obtained in the other regions, and this information would help model selection in the next generations.

Abstract:
SUMMARYA collection of 168 accessions belonging to 62 species and subspecies was evaluated in Cordoba, Spain, in 1985 for fatty acid composition of the seed oil. Linoleic acid content of seed produced in Cordoba (mean temperature during seed formation 27·9 °C) was compared with that of seed obtained under much cooler environmental conditions in Montpellier, France, (mean temperature 19·5 °C). Linoleic acid content ranged from 27·3 to 83·7% in the warm environment and from 45·9 to 88·7% in the cool environment with average values of 64·3% and 75·0%, respectively. Twenty-three species with linoleic acid values of > 70% in both environments were evaluated again, in 1989 in Cordoba (mean temperature 31 °C). Twelve wild species showed consistently high and more stable linoleic acid contents than the cultivated control and could be readily used in breeding programmes to improve oil quality.

Abstract:
A solar collector market is most European countries is at the stage of continuous development, however its expansion rate differs. It shows that much more factors than only the local solar radiation is important, including a technology progress, costs, local manufactures’ engagement, an economic government support or an environmentally consciousness raising relevant to a mitigating climate change. We conducted the analysis for a public office building, with a few toilets and a social room, used by 54 people. As a primary heat source for HVAC and DHW systems an oil boiler was used, whereas solar collectors were considered as an energy source for hot water preparation. The analysis was conducted for three locations of the building: Bialystok (Poland), Cordoba (Spain) and Kaunas (Lithuania), using a simulation software delivered within the framework of VIPSKILLS project. Theoretical hot water consumption was considered as 3–7 dm3/(day person) in compliance with national recommendations. It was found that beam solar radiation share in a total radiation balance was nearly twice higher in Cordoba than in Bialystok or Kaunas. The highest efficiency (44%) was estimated in Cordoba for solar collectors installed with the tilt angle between 45–50°. In case of Bialystok and Kaunas the efficiency was lower than in Cordoba and nearly equal 40–41% and the recommended tilt angle was in a range 30– 45°.

Abstract:
The Canterbury earthquakes, which involved widespread damage in the February 2011 event and ongoing aftershocks near the Christchurch central business district (CBD), presented decision makers with many recovery challenges. This paper identifies major government decisions, challenges, and lessons in the early recovery of Christchurch based on 23 key-informant interviews conducted 15 months after the February 2011 earthquake. It then focuses on one of the most important decisions—maintaining the cordon around the heavily damaged CBD—and investigates its impacts. The cordon displaced 50,000 central city jobs, raised questions about (and provided new opportunities for) the long-term viability of downtown, influenced the number and practice of building demolitions, and affected debris management. Despite being associated with substantial losses, the cordon was commonly viewed as necessary, and provided some benefits in facilitating recovery. Management of the cordon poses important lessons for planning for catastrophic urban earthquakes around the world.

Abstract:
Upright Fruiting Offshoots (UFO) is a novel high-density training system for sweet cherry (Prunus avium L.) that produces fruit on multiple vertical leaders (“offshoots”) arising from a cordon-like trunk. The promotion of sufficient upright shoot number and uniform shoot distribution during establishment are key to development of this training system. Trunk angle, meristem management (selective bud retention and removal), and cordon height at establishment were evaluated for influence on shoot number, shoot distribution, total shoot length, and early fruiting potential. At planting, trunk angles of 45° or 60° from the horizontal resulted in increased shoot growth compared with 30°, and also increased shoot distribution when bud selection was not imposed. A cordon height of 45 cm increased total shoot length by 20% compared with a 60-cm cordon height. Bud selection (retaining buds for optimal upright shoot distribution and removing all others) improved canopy development by reducing the number of shoots in the terminal third of the cordon and increasing the number of shoots in the basal and middle thirds compared with no bud selection. Bud selection reduced fruiting potential in the 2nd and 3rd years compared with unmanaged treatments, but subsequently surpassed those treatments in projected annual yield in Year 4 and cumulative yield in Year 5. Bud selection increased total and average shoot length, and improved distribution while moderating early crop load potential. Planting angle, cordon height, and bud selection significantly impact canopy establishment of UFO trees by affecting shoot number, length, and distribution.

Abstract:
Traditionally, internal-external trips were modeled by using regression-based trip generation equations and gravity model trip distribution. Applying these models at the cordon in the traditional way produces a number of problems. A typical solution is the use of external traffic analysis zones and highway networks that are used to model the external traffic similarly to internal traffic. Presented are modifications to each component of the traditional cordon line external model that will remedy these problems for those areas that do not wish to expand their data collection burden to areas outside their planning boundaries. In this model, trip distribution is a traditional cordon applied gravity model modified by using a composite impedance based on the product of travel time and an exponential function of the angular impedance. Angular impedance is defined as the angle between the vector representing the general direction of travel at the cordon and the vector defined by the cordon crossing point and a given internal zone centroid. The trip generation model is modified by the use of accessibility modified independent variables in the regression formulation. This model uses either traditional socioeconomic variables or internally generated production and attractions as the root variable. These root variables are then multiplied by an accessibility term similar to the denominator of the gravity model formula where internal-external trip productions at the cordon are used as the size variables. Application of these modifications to a small metropolitan planning organization in Ohio resulted in dramatic improvements to the model.

Abstract:
The present research aimed to evaluate the water dynamics of grapevines trained in Cordon and Guyot systems by coupling sap flow and trunk diameter measurements under Mediterranean climate conditions. The study was conducted in a vineyard with Touriga-Nacional located at the Douro Valley, Portugal, during 2017. The results showed daily trunk diameter fluctuations (TDFs), with the contraction, recovery and increment phases and higher sap flow (SF) rates at earlier stages. Under harsh pedoclimatic conditions, SF was reduced and TDF flattened. Rehydration and stomatal mechanisms were mostly associated with these responses. Guyot vines showed higher changes in TDF for the same SF values, whereas the TDFs of Cordon vines remained practically unchanged over maturation. Guyot vines generally showed increased values of cumulative increment and maximum daily trunk shrinkage. Although Guyot vines had a similar leaf area index (LAI), they showed higher SF/LAI ratios than Cordon vines. These results highlight the effect of the shorter length of the hydraulic pathways of the Guyot training system, in contrast to the higher trunk and the permanent horizontal branch (cordon) of the Cordon training system, indicating good adaptation to local pedoclimatic conditions. The study pointed to the complementary use of both techniques in the evaluation of grapevine water dynamics.

Abstract:
The province of Cordoba in central Argentina is naturally rich in aromatic and medicinal herbs that are in high demand as ingredients in teas and herbal medicines. Most of the herbs sold are harvested from natural populations, and this activity is a primary source of income for families in the Sierra de Cordoba region. As a result of over-collection and other poor harvesting practices, many native plant populations have been reduced in size or extirpated. The economic consequence of the gradual decline of this resource has been a loss of real income in rural areas coupled with a pattern of emigration from small towns to larger cities. PRODEMA is a collaborative effort by universities in Argentina and the United States, with the sponsorship of the Cordoba government, to domesticate and to market the most commercially important species. Horticultural research has focused on the development of propagation techniques and identification and selection of desirable chemotypes.
