Abstract:
We compiled a list of the fern and lycophyte species that occur in Mesoamerica and extend into Colombia and Ecuador, where they are restricted to the western side of the Andes; that is, they occur only west of the crest of the easternmost cordillera and are absent from that cordillera’s eastern slope and in adjacent Amazonia. We found 131 species with this Mesoamerican and west-of-the-eastern-cordillera distribution. Those 131 species constitute 7% of the total 1805 fern and lycophyte species that have been recorded west of the crest of the easternmost cordillera in Colombia and Ecuador. All 1

The E. tubernasus species group is re-evaluated, reducing the four once-recognized species to two, which are not closely related. The Cretaceous and Paleogene magmatic arcs of the Central and Western Cordilleras of Colombia have been attributed to the evolution of a subduction system in the Colombian Pacific coast. In this work the distribution and crystallization ages of plutons emplaced between 60 Ma and 53 Ma in the Central and Western Cordilleras are analyzed. From 53 Ma the magmatic arc migrates towards the west of Colombia, installing magmas in a plate edge transitional crust. Detailed studies of the pseudostratigraphy, age, geochemistry, and structural setting of ophiolitic rocks in the northern Cordillera indicate that ophiolites formed in Permian to Middle Triassic suprasubduction zone settings and were obducted onto passive margin sequence

Abstract:
Geochemical and temporal characterization of magmatic rocks is an effective way to test terrane definitions and to evaluate tectonic models. In the northern Cordillera, magmatic episodes are mostly interpreted as products of continental arc and back-arc settings. Re-evaluation of Paleozoic and Late Mesozoic magmatic episodes presented herein highlights fundamental gaps in the understanding of the tectonic framework of the northern Cordillera. In many cases, the character of magmatism and temporal relationships between various magma types do not support existing tectonic models. The present re-

This map encompasses two 1:50 000 scale map areas at the southw estern margin of Eagle Plain sedimentary basin, in the northern Canadian Cordillera. The eastern part is underlain by the Upper Cretaceous Park in, Fishing Branch, Burnthill Creek , and Cody Creek formations of the Eagle Plain Group, w here shale and sandstone beds dip gently eastw ard to northw ard.
