Abstract:
The present essay attempts a psychoanalytic interpretation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s Jay Gatsby’s id, superego, ego, and core issues. The first stage of the paper offers an analysis of Gatsby’s id, superego and ego; and finds that the id largely rules his behaviour, with few instances where the ego takes control and manifests the superego. The second stage proposes that three psychoanalytic core issues are identifiable in the character of Gatsby: fear of abandonment, low self-esteem and insecure or unstable sense of self. The purpose of this research was to investigate the clinical phenomenon of destructive narcissism. Contemporary Kleinian and neo-Kleinian theoretical perspectives provided the interpretative perspective on the complexities of inaccessible personalities and subtle forms of internal destructiveness. Four research questions were formulated to interrogate the individual and collective experiences of three male patients whose internal worlds seem to be governed by rigid intrapychic structures organized around the dictatorship of a constellation of seemingly impenetrable defensive strategies. This thesis finds that "the self" as a concept has been included in psychoanalytic theory but has not been emphasized. The ego is defined in this thesis as a psychoanalytic term. "The self" is defined as a philosophical concept that integrates the subject (an experiential, first person quality), and object (a sense of being an individual as a whole) in mental life. Theoretical writings on the ego are observed to separate the subject and object. In psychoanalysis, the debate on the status of the self in relationship to the ego is found to originate in the 1940s. Rene Descartes (1596-1650)says "Cogito ergo sum" (I think therefore I am)which considers "I" as an individual who can think rationally and consciously. However, this concept is overwhelmed by the theory of psychoanalysis. Jacque Lacan (1901-1981)considers that subject is the product of language; he also addresses the concept of "desire" which dominates the subject in every level of its life. The issue of self-identity is also dealt with in Ian McEwan's Atonement (2001).

Abstract:
Whenever there is a decrease of the sensory function, whether due to a disease, trauma or to the normal aging process, a change occurs at the same time in the motor control, in body and emotions perception, in cognitive processing, in the functional activities and in the interpersonal relationships. The feeling that is generated is of loss of identity, of threat, and Self disintegration. This phenomenon of consciousness and identity is called the Self. There are many concepts of the Self but some more recent theories claim that there is only one Self. The human being is a whole and the greater

In order to take into account both the integrity of the core evaluations theory and the real workplace situations, this study includes both core self-evaluations and core others-evaluations. At the same time, it also uses the mediate effect models proposed by Judge to investigate if these two core evaluations predict employee attitudes through differ

Abstract:
The 3GPP Long Term Evolution (LTE) is considered as a dominant future cellular wireless technology in terms of performance and user experience. With technological advancement of the wireless networks, dependencies and business impact of the mobile network services have increased phenomenally. It is, therefore, crucial to address the issues regarding network infrastructure or service failure. In this thesis, a self-healing solution is presented for the LTE Evolved Packet Core (EPC) with a view to maintaining service continuity in the event of core network elements - the MME and S-GW failures. Hence, software-based test is an attractive method due to using processors instructions and without requiring design changes and or insertion of any additional hardware structures. This thesis presents a software-based test methodology for a processor core to achieve high fault coverage and small code size. In order to reduce the test complexity, the processor core is firstly partitioned into several components according

With all these advantages, two major challenges still remain for embedded metal NCs: the deposition methods; and size, distribution and shape control. In this study, we employed a self-assembly (SAM) technique to prepare metal NCs with high density and good separation for the application of NCs memory. In this work, we fabricated gold and platinum NCs

If we can apply well-developed software-based self-testing program to a multi-core system which uses the same processor as in a single-core system, testing development time for the multi-core system can be greatly shortened. In this thesis, we address the SBST issues in multi-core systems and propose a methodology that applies single-core software-based s

Recent research suggest that individuals can engage in job crafting in order to facilitate their own and organizational benefits. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between core self-evaluation and job crafting. The survey was administered to collect data from hotel employees working in Taipei. 201 valid responses were used in our analyses. Multiple linear regressions were employed t
