Benchetrit, Louise Kate. "Conceptualising the coronavirus pandemic: a corpus linguistic study of metaphors in Italian, British and French coronavirus press discourse." Master's thesis, Alma Mater Studiorum - Università di Bologna, 2021. http://amslaurea.unibo.it/22912/.

Full text
Abstract:
As the number of coronavirus cases increased globally, governments started to introduce restrictive measures which many individuals had never experienced before. Heads of state started to use expressions referring to ‘war’, encouraging citizens to help the ‘fight’ against the ‘invisible enemy’. In the cognitive linguist approach, metaphors are believed to involve the ‘thinking’ as well as the ‘talking’ (or writing) of one thing in terms of another. That is, similarities (or correspondences) are perceived between two different ‘domains’ such as ‘covid-19’ and ‘war’. Therefore, ‘fighting the disease’ can be ‘translated’ into ‘reducing infection, illness and death’. This dissertation aims to identify metaphorical expressions, and the associated conceptual mappings, in the coronavirus media discourse of three countries – Italy, France, and the United Kingdom – over the period of the ‘first wave’. If metaphorical expressions can highlight how we ‘think’ about an event, it is interesting to investigate if all three countries are ‘thinking’ about the novel coronavirus in the same terms. In order to tackle this question, this dissertation has five chapters. First, the cognitive linguistic approach to metaphors is discussed, focusing on Conceptual Metaphor Theory (CMT). In chapter two we turn to the corpus linguistic approach and its application to metaphor research. On the basis of this theoretical background, chapter three introduces the methodology employed for this study. Chapter four presents the main results for English, French and Italian. In particular, this study found that the coronavirus is conceptualised as WAR, SUBSTANCE IN MOVEMENT, SUBSTANCE IN A CONTAINER, and OBSTACLE in all three language corpora, while WATER, FAMILY and POSSESSION are unique to the French, Italian and English samples, respectively. Finally, chapter five discusses the findings and the limitations of this study, closing with possible directions for future research.

Abstract:
We have read with interest the short communication published by Segovia-Juarez et al., 2020 in Respiratory Physiology & Neurobiology establishing that high altitude reduces the infection rate of COVID-19 but not the case fatality rate in the Peruvian setting. We support this hypothesis, however there could be an important number of under registered deaths on account of a low rate of diagnostic tests performed per inhabitant and mostly in symptomatic patients (Pasquariello and Stranges, 2020).

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected and continues to affect all economic activities. In particular, it affects the globalization of economic activity, in which investment is central. The effects of the pandemic and the economic slowdown are still ongoing, but investor portfolios are already experiencing some constraints and the need for further investment continues to grow.

Altan, Deniz Idil. "Use of Remote Participatory Video Amidst Coronavirus Pandemic : Experiences from Uganda’s Rhino Camp Refugee Settlement."

Full text
Abstract:
In the early summer months of the global coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, three community-produced participatory videos were conducted on a remote basis. These projects were made in Uganda, Germany and Turkey with the use of mobile technology to understand the impact of the virus on lives of different refugee communities in distant locations around the world. This study evaluates the potential of using the emerging practice of remote participatory video at times of crisis by presenting a case study on one of the participatory video works undertaken in Rhino Camp which is one of the largest refugee camps in Uganda. Drawing on the common production stages within the traditional participatory video practices this thesis presents a preliminary outline for facilitating a remote participatory video. By deploying an affordance approach, it is aimed to investigate how participatory video was translated into a remote practice. By drawing on the Freirean process of critical consciousness the study investigates the ways in which communicative affordances of remote PV could be utilised to promote advocacy during the pandemic. Another objective of the thesis is to explore what unique local experiences and insights could refugees from Rhino Camp bring to bear on the problems caused by the coronavirus pandemic. Focusing on the analysis of the video messages from the refugees of Rhino Camp, the study explores the following question: What significance and potential could the use of remote practice of civil society produced participatory video have during the COVID-19 outbreak?

Humanity has experienced more than one pandemic in its history and is well aware of its consequences. In early 2020, the world was rocked by the Covid-19 pandemic, which rapidly spread to the world. Every State has had to introduce drastic measures. Tourism has been slowed down and banned at certain times. The severity of the problem is that the pandemic has a major negative impact on all areas of life, whose rehabilitation is difficult and whose losses are enormous. That is why the study of the problems of tourism business development in Ukraine under Covid-19 conditions is extremely topical.

The events of 2020 - quarantine and the crisis that followed, divided all spheres of society into «before» and «after». Of course, these events also affected the global labor market and national labor markets. The coronavirus pandemic could have worse consequences for the world labor market than the financial crisis of 2008-2009. Experts predict, that the coronavirus crisis will cause a reduction of 25 million jobs worldwide. At the same time, during the financial crisis of 2008-2009, the number of unemployed in the world increased by 22 million people

Abstract:
Aim and research questions: This study investigates how the corona pandemic COVID-19 has been noticed and presented in the news reporting of a Danish newspaper and a Swedish newspaper in their digital news feed. The study is based on the following questions: ● What discursive themes can be identified in Danish and Swedish news reporting on COVID-19 in 2020? ● What are linguistic features used in the headline of the articles in Danish and Swedishnews media? ● How can the Danish and Swedish media reports on COVID-19 be explained by discourse analysis and theoretical framework? Method and material: The study has used a qualitative method with a critical discourse analysis that uses Norman Fairclough's three-dimensional analysis model to analyze a total of 48 articles from Aftonbladet and Kristeligt Dagblad. Main result: The study results show an overview of how news media reporting from Aftonbladet and Kristeligt Dagblad shapes the COVID-19 pandemic with four discursive themes: infection, information, restriction, and immunity. They shaped the discourses onCOVID-19 through a critical perspective in relation to the actions of politicians and authorities and their handling. Linguistic features are used to construct our society during the pandemic to capture readers' attention through the headlines. These have been in the form of metaphorical and charged words that reflect either negative or positive emotional reactions. It also highlights that the media has an influence on how things look; they can consciously or unconsciously make us feel a certain way. As a result, people perceive things differently and can sometimes misunderstand information.

Strittmatter, Matthew James. "A Sample of Selected Secondary School Leader Perceptions of Necessary Skills Before, During, and After the Coronavirus Pandemic." Diss., Virginia Tech, 2021. http://hdl.handle.net/10919/102865.

Full text
Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to explore the perceptions of principals from around the world regarding the perceived skill set necessary for success before, during, and after the coronavirus pandemic. While many school facilities closed during the public health crisis, the learning continued. During the pandemic, educational leaders were tasked with creating environments that allowed students to thrive academically, behaviorally, and emotionally from beyond the classroom walls. By identifying the perceived skill set required to lead an effective school building before and then during the pandemic, a greater understanding of the future of education can be ascertained. The study involved interviewing fourteen school leaders from around the world (seven from the United States and seven internationally). The interview questions probed the perceived necessary skills for the functioning of successful school buildings prior to, during, and then after the coronavirus pandemic. The outcome of the study provides opportunities for school leaders and human resource personnel to identify characteristics essential for success in a world changed by the global pandemic. By analyzing the perceptions of necessary skills to lead successful schools during the coronavirus crisis through a comparative approach, a dedication of resources for improving the quality of the leadership within school buildings moving forward can be adapted.
Doctor of Education
The global coronavirus health crisis greatly impacted schools, learning, and leadership. Through a comparative approach, we have an opportunity to learn from each other and make crucial changes moving forward to garner more success. The influence of comparative education on school leadership preparation was identified in the review of literature. American and international school leaders who were impacted by the coronavirus was the specific area the researcher focused on for this study. This qualitative study focused on the perceptions of school leaders on the skills necessary for success before, during, and then after the health crisis. Data was collected through the interviews of fourteen school leaders (seven from the United States and seven from around the world). Through this study, the researcher identified seven findings and four implications. One limitation for this study was the small sample size. A suggestion for future research would be to investigate how important the vision of a school building is to the overall leadership attributes by interviewing the leadership teams and then the teachers they serve to discover if there is alignment by triangulating student assessment data, staff climate surveys, and student climate surveys.

Abstract:
The research paper presents qualitative research and aims to examine the impact of social media on consumers’ stockpiling behavior under the situation of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak in Sweden since week 11, 2020. Data is collected by interviewing five middle-aged women in Sweden who are either native Swedes or permanent immigrants and who had experienced stockpiling behavior. The interpretation of collected data is discussed based on the two-step flow theory, risk communication and the theory of planned behavior, and the social contagion theory. The qualitative content analysis is used to analyze the data with the results of three themes: being inclined to reach information, realizing why and when to hoard things, and behavior changes and showing confidence. The five women interviewed all use various social media ways to get information about COVID-19. There is a significant correlation between social media use, risk perception formulation, and stockpiling behavior. Participants have their judgment to look into the authenticity and reliability of related news. They trust the official social media reports, underwent the influence of social media reports, two-way online interaction, and other stockpiling consumers. They also experience the decreasing level of risk perception and thus changes in stockpiling behavior.

Abstract:
The COVID-19 coronavirus disease has unexpectedly changed the way we travel in our cities. With urban transportation remaining an essential service, governments, agencies and organizations are being challenged to develop and implement changes that accommodate for the changing levels of travel demand, the shifts in mode of travel, and the promotion of physical/social distancing to limit the spread of the virus. Travel behaviours of the public have also changed during this time, favouring more physically distant options such as cycling, ridesharing and other new mobility solutions, and the automobile where available, rather than public transportation options. What can cities learn from the different response measures during this crisis, and how does the current shift in urban transportation needs help inform future urban transportation planning, promoting more space and potentially shifting to more sustainable and active modes of transportation? Using case studies to outline the various levels of response measures to the transportation system being implemented in select cities in North America, Europe, and Asia, this highlights the varied overall approaches and generates a toolbox of interventions for the urban transportation sector. Various cities have implemented measures such as mandatory face coverings and temperature checks on public transport, promoting and providing easier access to bike share and other new mobility programs, adjusting and reallocating space on public roadways to cyclists and pedestrians in an effort to promote physical distancing, among many others. While intended as initial emergency responses, measures from such a toolbox have opportunities to become further developed to long-term programs that can be aimed at shifting attitudes towards urban transportation, encouraging alternate or more active ways of movement, and reallocating space within the public realm for people.

Abstract:
The first half of the year 2020 has been full of unique events. Starting from the potential declaration of World War III, to a global pandemic, to the SpaceX rocket launch and many more. However, while most of them, like the declarations of war, have been just online jokes or suppositions stemming from news and reports, the one event that deeply affected all of the world’s countries, directly or not, has been the COVID-19 pandemic, also known as the coronavirus pandemic. This pandemic, which was first identified in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December 2019, has without a doubt changed the local and intercultural relationships around the globe for at least the foreseeable future, if not for more. In this essay, I am going to analyse some of these changes and repercussions, paying extra attention to those that occurred in Italy.

Abstract:
This comparative study examines how the issue of domestic violence is covered and framed in the media during the Covid-19 pandemic 2020. The study compares the potential differences and similarities in the media coverage between the two neighbouring countries Sweden and Denmark. By combining a quantitative content analysis with a qualitative framing analysis the study critically examines the attributes of how domestic violence is covered and framed in the media articles during the Covid-19 pandemic 2020. In both countries the media was quick to cover this issue and has done so quite thoroughly, but even though both countries have similar political views on domestic violence and gender equality, they differed in how they framed the topic. By using the framing theory and the theory of intersectionality to analyse the material the study shows that both countries tended to frame the issue of domestic violence as a social issue that was part of a bigger structural problem. But the study also shows that some of the danish articles had tendencies to present the issue through the perspective of the perpetrator and sympathize with the reasons behind the violence. The swedish articles, on the other hand, did not take this perspective. Furthermore the study shows an exclusion of black and coloured people in their choice of pictures and the authors also tend to be white female journalists. This study is important because it highlights the media's role in framing the social issue of domestic violence during the Covid-19 pandemic, and framing in the media plays a big part in shaping society's perception about social issues.

Background: COVID-19 is a coronavirus that was identified in patients with unexplained pneumonia in China in December 2019. Since the beginning of the pandemic, operating wards in Sweden have been closed in favor of special COVID-ICU’s. Nurse anesthetists have been moved from their regular workplaces to help and support the work. There are no previous studies on nurse anesthetists’ experience of caring for patients with COVID-19. Aim: To explore nurse anesthetists’ experiences of caring for patients with COVID-19 at COVID-ICU. Method: Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 10 nurse anesthetists at a medium-sized hospital in southern Sweden. The data material was analyzed on the basis of a qualitative content analysis. Results: The nurse anesthetists felt anxious before their first working day at COVID-ICU. However, they quickly got into the tasks and it created safety. Not being able to use their experience to the full was negative but avoiding patient responsibility was experienced as positive. The work at COVID-ICU was stressful regarding both the work environment and private life. Conclusion: The nurse anesthetists experienced mixed feelings before working in COVID-ICU. There was concern about the availability of personal protective equipment. Many did not like the tasks and did not want to work at COVID-ICU "forever". The work at COVID-ICU developed them personally but not in their professional profession. They were dependent on their colleagues in the team to be able to care for the patients. Feeling appreciated and valuable contributed to the experience of feeling needed. The work environment in COVID-ICU was perceived as poor as it was stressful in terms of both work pace and workload. Despite the fact that most nurse anesthetists were not satisfied with having to work at COVID-ICU, several stated that the atmosphere in COVID-ICU was still good.

Abstract:
In some nations, including Sweden and South Korea, cash payments are becoming increasingly uncommon. Other nations, such as Germany, continue to predominantly prefer cash. At the same time, digital currency is on the rise, and the announced launch of Facebook’s stablecoin Libra, in particular, has caused a debate around digital money. In response, a number of central banks have begun to consider launching their own versions of digital currency. This article analyzes characteristics of both cash and digital currency and illustrates advantages as well as disadvantages of digital money and a cashless society. In particular, privacy concerns regarding digital cash are addressed. In addition, compliance risks are highlighted, and it is deliberated whether the introduction of digital cash could lead to a decrease in crime related to cash and cryptocurrencies.

Abstract:
In this comment piece, I will seek to examine the relationship between cryptocurrencies and virtual currencies from a compliance perspective. I will tie this to the underlying theme from multiple studies, that a lack of knowledge of these products means more needs to be done by policymakers and the crypto industry to form cohesive and understandable standards that unearth what these products are, how they are used and how compliance analysts can be best supported to apply best practice procedures when conducting due-diligence checks. I will seek to lay out the advantages and disadvantages of recent developments and explore the challenges they pose on a socio-economic and macro level. This piece dissects the topic through four chapters. The first ties it into developments that unfolded during the global financial crisis, the use of collateralized debt obligations and other derivatives-based financial instruments, ultimately showing how a lack of knowledge was an underlying theme within the banking system during the 2008 global financial crisis. The second chapter combines the theme of knowledge and awareness of a product with the way in which people view cryptocurrency and digital coins, including regulators, courts and policymakers. The third explores recent developments from international central banks and governments, from sanctioned countries using of the product to help their citizens to international alliances forming across the globe in support of central-bank digital currencies. The final chapter unpacks the advantages and disadvantages of using these financial instruments, from countries in the global south suffering from scams to the pressure it takes on energy efficiency, concluding that more needs to be done to educate users, regulators and everyone in between for the success of the digital currency to be fully realized.

Abstract:
This thesis focuses on eight Swedish museums, who collected intangible and tangible memories of how everyday life was affected during the first year of the coronavirus pandemic in 2020-2021. These contemporary collecting projects were conducted by Eskilstuna stadsmuseum, Jönköpings läns museum, Klostret i Ystad, Nordiska museet, Skellefteå museum, Stockholms läns museum, Värmlands museum and Västerbottens museum. Through semi-structured qualitative interviews with the museum professionals responsible for the collecting process, the aim was to collect data on how the projects were organised and which collecting methods that were used. Further, the aim was to discuss and analyse the contemporary collecting projects from the theoretical perspectives of cultural memory studies and participatory memory practices. The results of the study show that the museums started the collecting projects in haste when the pandemic broke out and that the main collecting method being used was questionnaires. Other collecting methods, such as interviews, field studies and collecting of photographs, diaries, social media posts and tangible objects, were used as a complement. The museum’s purpose was to reach out as wide as possible with the collecting projects, to collect memories from different social groups in society. In conclusion, the collected materials, the intangible and tangible memories collected from participating individuals, will together take place in cultural memory side by side with documentations of historical events and be of use for future generations. Memories were collected all over Sweden, from people of different age and gender. The projects would not have been possible to conduct without the voluntary participation of people sharing their memories of how everyday life was affected during the coronavirus pandemic. Abstract:
Technology has allowed for the ability to create online platforms for sources ofreliable and unreliable news media. It is therefore important to understand the roleand relevance of alternative news media today and how disinformation is spreadonline. In this paper, we will examine the role of alternative news media websites inSweden and how it compares to the mainstream media websites spread of informationduring the coverage of the Covid-19 pandemic. We will also explore what thedifference is in their portrayal of events during the coronavirus, and what makes thisdifference appealing to certain readers. Using Google, we searched the top ten articlesfrom four online media news sources. Two of which sources were mainstream mediasources and the other two sources as alternative media. These articles were searchedfor during a specific timeframe and with the keywords such as “Corona” and “Covid19”. The dates for the timeframe of this experiment come from when the coronavirusbroke out in Sweden to one year after the event occurred. The top ten search resultsfrom each news source, as provided to us by Google’s algorithm, were placedthrough a text analysis tool called Voyant. The data findings are presented in threeformats: a Word Cloud, TermsBerry and Distinctive Words Comparison. The resultsof the experiment show a stark contrast in the difference in reporting on thecoronavirus topic between different online newspaper media, specifically alternativemedia news sources. Further research is recommended on a larger scale within thetopic of online alternative media.

Recently, the sphere of creative economy has been actively developing in many countries of the world. Millions of people work in this field, supporting the national economy and raising the general level of culture. When the coronavirus pandemic closed traditional spheres of life, many people engaged in handicrafts, read books, watched TV series and movies, online concerts or went shopping online. Such actions helped to support the development of the creative economy.

Abstract:
The objective of my study is to contribute with knowledge of how the Coronavirus pandemics may have bestowed restrictions, or alternatively, possibilities for the learning, development, and well-being of the children in the selected preschool unit which this study targets. In it, I identify how the teachers in this preschool unit interpret and approach the frame factors that are determined outside the teaching processes and how those frames are perceived as opportunities or limitations for the preschool quality in terms of attained goals as set out in national preschool educational curriculum – both before and during the pandemics. The empirical data comprises nine qualitative interviews of preschool teachers from different preschools in the selected preschool unit. I have chosen to make use of frame factor perspectives to analyze the results of my study. The results of my study show that external economic and political frames such as, time, the children group, the physical preschool setting, teacher density, the teachers’ competence, and different steering documents – which all are perceived by preschool teachers to be external and political frames that impact the preschool teachers’ working conditions and organisation for the diverse preschool educational processes. The Corona pandemics has shaped a number of new external frames for preschool teachers and their work. New resources in terms of staff competence training, clear-cut recommendations from health authorities and political leaders with regard to safer work establishment has been seen as required for the entire pandemics. Staff concerns about contagion, compounded work-loads, teaching-staff animosity vis-à-vis outdoor teaching as well as absence of well-defined frames, are all factors which are perceived as limitations to staff motivation and to a joint concerted action in transforming the adaptive preschool way of working – which results in a worsening educational quality for the preschools in this unit during the Coronavirus pandemics. The preschool group that conducts children education exclusively outdoors have thus been less impacted.

Abstract:
The rapidly spreading pandemic of SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) infection with high morbidity and mortality has overwhelmed the global healthcare services. With mysterious origins and the capacity of affecting multiple types of tissues, SARS-CoV-2 has baffled many scientists - which has posed great challenges in the development of pharmaceutical treatments and preventions (i.e., vaccination). The COVID-19 pandemic has also led to a slew of non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs) to slow down the spread of the virus. The sudden imposition of these NPIs including social distancing, lock-down, school closures, isolation, and quarantine of suspected cases or contacts, has greatly affected the mental health of children and adolescents. Concerns about the impact of these NPIs on mental health, especially for vulnerable populations such as children and adolescents, have emerged. This study discusses several different aspects of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the mental health of children and adolescents.Accumulating evidence has shown that the vast majority of children and adolescents exposed to the SARS-CoV-2 virus are asymptomatic, although few cases turned unfortunately severely ill. The genomics, microbiology, and biochemistry of this novel coronavirus reveal several peculiarities, making it a tough entity. The profound impact of social distancing along with the closure of schools, parks, and other recreational activities on the delicate minds of children and adolescents makes them irritable, angry, and rebellious. This assumes a major challenge in children with mental health issues or in those with special needs. Lock-down, quarantine and isolation further complicate the mental health issues and are discussed along with remedial measures. The impact of an already overwhelmed medical care system on the mental healthcare quality can be profound and needs a specially chartered approach by the psychiatrists supplementing the COVID-19 control activities. Children/adolescents with neuropsychiatric issues need special care, as they have abnormal impulsive behaviour and actions such as running away, unhygienic acts, spitting etc. All these mental health issues in children and adolescents, who form a sizable population of the society and are the future of the planet, forms the subject matter of this work. Thus, all programmes of COVID-19 control must simultaneously address these important mental health issues of children and adolescents to prevent this ‘parallel pandemic’ of psychiatric disorders. The latter may persist much longer and prove equally challenging and costly.

Abstract:
This essay is a corpus-based and quantitative study on language change that has occurred during global events, such as the Covid-19 pandemic. Global events especially affect the English language since it is a global language. In this essay, language change, collocation patterns and semantic prosody are discussed to compare the use of language and investigate whether any changes have occurred during the pandemic. These factors are studied since changes in collocation patterns can give words new meaning and possibly also a new semantic prosody. The collocations that are two or more words that often go together and the frequency of 10 sets of words are studied in particular, since they are often used during the Covid-19 pandemic. The British national corpus (BNC) and the Coronavirus Corpus (CVC) are used in the study to retrieve information on collocational patterns. By using the two corpora, it is possible to investigate the collocations during the pandemic by using CVC, and BNC for a comparison to the collocational use before the pandemic. This is done by using the collocate function in the corpora and investigating the collocates of two words on either side of the node. The major findings from the research reported in this essay show that many of the words have received additional meaning during the pandemic through their collocations, and they are most commonly neutral in semantic prosody.

Abstract:
The coronavirus pandemic has changed the lives of individuals all over the world. The goal of this research is to investigate and understand the narratives and underlying messages of the QAnon movement concerning COVID-19. The theoretical basis for this analysis is that of uncertainty-identity theory and extremism to study the process by which people embrace these types of movements and their values. Also, to examine the spread of QAnons’ messages and conspiracy theories on digital media, network society theory is used. In order to carry out this research, we conducted qualitative content analysis on data gathered directly from QAnon sources. According to the results of the study, the movement proceeded to create crisis narratives that tap into social anxieties and political uncertainty. Accordingly, the pandemic was used for the movement to grow, gain new momentum and supporters, and even merge other conspiracy theories making the narratives more elaborate.

Abstract:
Globalisation is increasing and mobility between countries is also increasing. One effect of this is that tourism is one of the fastest growing industries and international travel is gradually increasing. At the end of 2019, a new coronavirus occurred in Wuhan, China. The virus, named covid-19, coronavirus disease 2019, can be likened to a flu that causes respiratory problems. On 11 March 2020, the World Health Organisation (WHO) reported the new coronavirus as a pandemic. Covid-19 has been shown to have a devastating negative effect on the world economy and most industries, not least the hospitality industry. There is currently a dissuasion in Sweden from non-essential travel until 15 July 2020. Different attitudes may be created for this phenomenon. The purpose of the study is to investigate how swedish tourists' international travel behaviors may be affected after a pandemic. Two theories have been used to deal with behaviors and attitudes. Theory of reasoned action which is the main theory that describes the process of a chosen behavior, the complementary theory are push and pull factors. The study has a qualitative approach. The data collection was carried out using semi-structured interviews. The selection is of the content 18 individual interviews. An interview guide was designed based on eight themes from the chosen theories. The study has given insight that there is a continued interest in travel, while the study also clearly shows that there is a change in travel behaviour in travellers. This behaviour is based on a change in attitudes towards travel that will affect what future travel will look like, which is something that should be taken into account for future crises that may affect the hospitality industry. What may be noticed after covid-19 is that travelers take more account of hygiene and the importance of protecting the environment when traveling.

Abstract:
Covid-19 has been the focus on international, national, local and individual level during thelast 1,5 years, and it has been a constant subject in international media reporting. This studyaims to investigate how Anglo-Saxon media has described Sweden during this time of crisis. We have chosen to investigate specific features of Swedish exceptionalism which are thewelfare state, public administration and economy, and how these have been framed by themedia. This is done through investigating Anglo-Saxon articles in relation to Sweden and thepandemic, where we have selected articles related to our predefined features, which will bethe foundation for the analysis. Since we are investigating material consisting of text, wehave used a qualitative text analysis in order to expose and examine how Sweden has beenframed internationally. Based on the empirical section, as well as the theoretical framework,we conclude that media reporting has used features of Swedish exceptionalism to describeSweden have been frequently occuring in our material. Public administration has been themost prominent aspect in the material, followed by the economic feature, and thereafter thewelfare state. The tonality has varied, but a majority of the article expressed a positivetonality.

On the 11th of march, the coronavirus was declared as a pandemic and during the following weeks the media coverage about the virus drastically increased. The aim of this essay was to examine how two swedish newspapers, Dagens Nyheter and Aftonbladet, reported about and framed the news about the coronavirus. This was achieved by examining the difference between the reporting of the two newspapers and the difference between how the coronavirus was framed depending on which country was reported about. The framework of this study contains of framing theory, agenda setting theory, the studies of news values, stereotypes, and the Other. The method used to examine this topic was a quantitative content analysis based on 331 articles about the coronavirus. The results of this study show that even though the coronavirus was classified as a pandemic, that spread across the world, the main focus of the reporting centered around the coronavirus in Sweden. The places that the newspapers focused the least on was Africa and South America with barely any news about the spread of the coronavirus. In accordance with previous research, the most utilized theme in relation to the coronavirus was actions to slow the virus down and management of the virus. The most commonly used sources of the articles were other media outlets. The second most commonly used source spokespeople for different companies, they often spoke about the negative consequences that fell upon the companies due to the coronavirus. Aftonbladet produced 77 more articles than Dagens Nyheter, measured during the same timespan. Dagens Nyheter produced more articles about the economic effects that were caused by the coronavirus than Aftonbladet, they focused more on articles about actions to slow the virus down. The choice of angles of the articles also differed between the newspapers. Aftonbladet focused more on the negative effects of the coronavirus, while Dagens Nyheter did not have one specific angle that was more prominent.

Abstract:
The covid-19-pandemic spread across the entire world during 2020 and the hospital counselors’ workplace has during this time been in the centre of pandemic management. The aim of this study has been to investigate how hospital counselors in Sweden experience and manage their health and work during the covid-19-pandemic between January and October 2020. Eight hospital counselors have been studied using semi-structured interviews which were thematically sorted and analyzed based on Antonovsky's theory Sense of Coherence. The results showed that the counselors have experienced a different work situation with new routines such as supporting patients over the phone or while wearing personal protective equipment. The counselors have had to deal with increased patient mortality and more complicated cases that have challenged them emotionally and physically. As a consequence this has involved increased fatigue, muscle tension, worry and anxiety. At the same time, they have felt that they lacked the necessary staffing and work equipment to meet the increased demands. They have handled this by adding more importance to the collegial support and making sure to get a break from information about the pandemic in their spare time.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to analyze how two Swedish news media, Dagens Nyheter and Aftonbladet, reported on the coronavirus (COVID-19) before and after WHO declared COVID-19 a pandemic. The research questions examined were 1. how did the two chosen news media report about the coronavirus? 2. Is there a difference between how they reported before WHO declared it pandemic and after?  This study is a qualitative analysis of 12 strategically selected articles, three that were published by Dagens Nyheter before WHO declared a pandemic and three by Dagens Nyheter after the declaration and three that were published by Aftonbladet before the declaration and three by Aftonbladet that were published after the declaration. To understand our empirical material, we chose the following theories for our study; framing, agenda setting, crisis journalism, media logic and storytelling techniques. In our analysis we could see a pattern in all the articles we analyzed. It shows that all the articles we analyzed are unique and sensational as we live in a pandemic that has never happened before in modern time, that's why they all came at the top of the agenda. The reporting in the two news media portrayed a troubled and uncertain time, from which it can be seen that the alarming emphasis in the reporting of the corona is recurring in several of the articles. Our analysis also showed that Aftonbladet has a more dramatic and dramaturgical storytelling technique as it is an evening newspaper and the articles from Dagens Nyheter are written shorter and more concretely.

A number of factors have led to the current staggering decline in world oil prices. The most obvious of these is the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, which has engulfed the planet and led to a rapid decline in the world's hydrocarbon fuel consumption. There are other powerful factors, some of which are less obvious, that influenced the formation of the current dynamics of prices in the world oil market. Such factors often include international competition from major oil producers and, in particular, the inability of global oil market players such as Saudi Arabia and Russia to agree in a timely manner on a coordinated policy of limiting oil production and, consequently, oil sales on the world market. The latest trends in the global energy balance should also be included in the category of rather strong and long-lasting factors that will affect the future dynamics of oil consumption in the world. It is, first of all, about increasing the share of renewable energy sources in its total consumption, including at the expense of oil products. Moreover, this factor will continue to work after overcoming the negative consequences for the world economy of the COVID-19 coronary pandemic. And it will manifest itself, if not in reducing oil consumption, then at least in limiting the growth rate of its production in the long run.

Abstract:
Purpose: The pursuance of the sustainable development goals, introduced by the United Nations in2015, is of absolute necessity to build a sustainable future. Resilience-based crisis management helps tosustain an organisation and pursue its goal during crises. The aim of this research was to explore thestatus quo of resilience-based crisis management within public primary- and secondary schools in theNetherlands during school closures due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Furthermore, the aim was todiscover which measures were in place to safeguard the provision of SDG 4. The exploration took placeto observe the adaptation capabilities within the educational sector, which could safeguard the provisionof SDG 4. Methodology: The aim was pursued by a qualitative approach. 17 semi-structured interviews with 18people were conducted during the time of the immediate Coronavirus crisis. All interviewees heldpositions within the crisis management of primary- and secondary schools in the Netherlands. Theinterviews were then analysed by the two researchers using thematic content analysis. Results: The results suggest that:(a) Crisis management structures in the schools foster resilience, yet, leave room for improvement;(b) Crisis management processes to foster resilience are present in the schools, however, the extentvaries and especially the pre-crisis actions were limited;(c) The sustainable development goals, especially the content of SDG 4, are little known in the schools;(d) Actions and measures to provide equitable and qualitative education during the temporary schoolclosures are in place. Implications: This research adds to the young field of crisis management within schools during schoolclosures as well as the provision of SDG 4 during crises through resilience-based crisis management.Since this research is of exploratory nature, many future research opportunities derive from this research.Furthermore, it discovered the strengths and challenges of the Dutch primary and secondary educationsector and gives room for development through education on SDG 4 and resilience-based crisismanagement.

Abstract:
The coronavirus pandemic has thoroughly tested the Swedish crisis management system. It has affected and involved a large number of actors, across sectors and levels of government. Scholars of crisis management have long been interested in different forms of collaboration between actors. This large-scale crisis provides an opportunity to enhance our understanding of collaborative crisis management and to help us better deal with crisis in the future. This study aims to further enhance our understanding of collaboration in crisis management through the lens of a cen- tral actor in the Swedish crisis management system: the county administrative boards (länsstyrelserna). This study focuses on regional crisis management, where the county administrative boards play a central role, and aims to describe the con- text in which the actors operate and identify potential collaboration risks. This is being done through the application of the Institutional Collective Action Frame- work (ICA), which has been developed to identify and address collective action problems that may occur due to fragmented responsibility. Through a qualitative interview study this thesis has highlighted the complex nature of a large-scale crisis and the collaboration risks that follows. The main finding of this study is that the risk of coordination problems increases when a large-scale crisis involves a larger number of actors. Risks of incoordination are manifested in parallel communication channels and parallel networks, that if not identified and managed risks to short- circuit the ordinary collaborative structures in place. Some of the findings in the study may also be of interest for further studies.

Abstract:
The covid-19 pandemic has resulted in millions of lost lives, hundreds of millions ill, and an unwelcome interruption in our lives and in the world order. During the pandemic, we have been fed with massive amounts of information and regulations on how to act to reduce the spread of the virus. To properly make use of the information we receive, health literacy is needed. Health literacy is the basic reading and writing skills that enable us to obtain health-related information. However, the information we are given often requires advanced reading skills, contextual knowledge, and capabilities to process and adapt the information to personal situations. These are requirements that can prove challenging for individuals with little or no previous education. This study seeks to answer how health literacy impacts the capability to access and process information, and how accessible information regarding the covid-19 pandemic is. The study focuses on refugees, with little or no education studying at Swedish For Immigrants (SFI) track 1. Refugees are relevant to study as refugees are more socio-economically vulnerable, have been seen to be disproportionately affected by the covid-19 pandemic, and can be argued to face greater challenges in accessing information. The study is done through a small number of interviews with individuals from the focus group. The results indicate that the respondents have good knowledge of common symptoms and measures to avoid spreading the virus. However, the findings do show that the information material available on the Swedish authorities’ websites is too difficult to understand for someone with limited reading skills. This also applies to material that is claimed to be easy to read. Yet, the respondents do grasp the overall content due to pictures and illustrations. The findings are compared to a survey of information during the pandemic among non-fluent Swedish speakers conducted by MSB. The comparison shows support for certain findings from the interviews.
