Abstract:
Typical points are selected on Ganmo Highway, the only bidirectional four-lane highway of Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps (hereinafter referred to as “Xinjiang Corps”), so as to measure the speeds of vehicles on the overtaking lane and corresponding inside clearances. The relationship between the inside clearances and speeds of different types of vehicles is studied by mathematical statistics so as to establish a model of the relationship between inside clearances and speeds. Based on the collision deformation of different barrier types and the demand for the actual functions of the central strip, how to select the width of the central strip and the barrier type of the arterial highway of Xinjiang Corps is analyzed. According to the results, there is a linear relationship between inside clearances and speeds of vehicles; monolithic concrete barriers require a small width of the central strip and they are cheap on the whole and suitable for the corps area.

The main area of interest of this paper focuses on the right to strike in public education sector. All the possibilities of limiting the right to strike in this public sector needs to be verified in the context of constitutional provisions and international legal obligations binding the legislator. The possibility of “including” teachers in the Civil Service Corps is being considered in this paper. Under the current state of law, there are no grounds to restrict or prohibit the right to strike in the education sector. The potential subordination of teachers to the rigours binding the Civil Service Corps would require far-reaching adjustments within this institution, stemming from the constitutional provisions that would necessitate these changes.

Abstract:
FeSiAl magnetic powder contains high cost-performance as inductance components, which is widely used in various fields. In the present investigation the structure, magnetic properties and properties of magnetic powder cores prepared by strip cast ingot process were studied, and then compared with FeSiAl magnetic powder prepared by ingot cast broken process. The results show that strip cast sheet contained much little grain which surround with big grain, while the ingot cast broken has big grain connect with each other. For FeSiAl magnetic powder prepared by strip cast ingot process, the bigger grains were strip, the smaller grains were irregular shape, the surface of the powder was coarse, the powder prepared by strip cast ingot process was good for keeping the insulation film perfectly. For FeSiAl magnetic powder prepared by ingot cast broken, much of the powder was irregular bulk shape, and the grain corner was sharp, which is not good for insulation coating. Compared the patterns of strip cast ingot powder with the patterns of ingot cast broken powder, the diffraction peak of the patterns of strip cast ingot process powder became broaden. The initial magnetization curves of FeSiAl were obtained by vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM), observing that the saturation magnetization of strip cast magnetic powder was greater than that of ingot cast broken.

Abstract:
We study the stability of a barotropic vortex strip on a rotating sphere, as a simple model of jet streams. The flow is approximated by a piecewise-continuous vorticity distribution by zonal bands of uniform vorticity. The linear stability analysis shows that the vortex strip becomes stable as the strip widens or the rotation speed increases. When the vorticity constants in the upper and the lower regions of the vortex strip have the same positive value, the inner flow region of the vortex strip becomes the most unstable. However, when the upper and the lower vorticity constants in the polar regions have different signs, a complex pattern of instability is found, depending on the wavenumber of perturbations, and interestingly, a boundary far away from the vortex strip can be unstable. We also compute the nonlinear evolution of the vortex strip on the rotating sphere and compare with the linear stability analysis. When the width of the vortex strip is small, we observe a good agreement in the growth rate of perturbation at an early time, and the eigenvector corresponding to the unstable eigenvalue coincides with the most unstable part of the flow. We demonstrate that a large structure of rolling-up vortex cores appears in the vortex strip after a long-time evolution. Furthermore, the geophysical relevance of the model to jet streams of Jupiter, Saturn and Earth is examined.

Abstract:
In the fifth stasimon of Antigone the chorus observes that "the whole city is subject to a violent sickness" and invokes Dionysos to "come with kathartic foot." It is generally assumed that the katharsis the chorus has in mind is purification of Thebes from a plague or pollution arising from the unburied corpse of Polyneikes; katharsis of this sort is however unattested as a function of Dionysos. It is argued that this is rather the earliest explicit attestation of the kathartic effect of ecstatic Dionysiac dancing upon nosos ("sickness") as mental disorder, the chorus equating the mental nosos of Kreon, Antigone and Haimon with the nosos of civil strife affecting Thebes. A large number of passages indicate that mention of feet in cultic and especially Dionysiac contexts almost invariably refers to dancing, which is a dominant motif of the fifth stasimon both in its content as hymn to Dionysos and formally as a hyporcheme. Evidence from the fifth century and from Plato for the connection of Dionysos with kathartic dancing as a cure for mental disorder is stronger than previous discussions maintain. It is suggested that Sophokles elides two senses of nosos-mental disorder and civil strife-and that the chorus are invoking Dionysos to relieve them of the stress of these, rather than of a general plague or pollution. Whereas mental disorders and civil strife are constant themes of the play, the corpse as pollutant affects only altars-nothing like a "violent plague" is attested in the text. This reinterpretation of the ode suggests that it relates rather to the tragic conflict still to be played out among the principal characters than to the corpse, which is shortly buried with invocation of Hekate and Plouton rather than Dionysos.

Abstract:
We review some analytical results of our studies of the charge- and spin density modulations (CDW and SDW) in a one- and two-dimensional electron systems. Self-consistent solutions of Bogoliubov- de Gennes equations for spin-charge solitonic superstructure and superconducting state are obtained in the framework of one and two-dimensional extended Hubbard models. Possible correspondence of the theory with experimental data on stripe phase in high Tc cuprates is discussed. We found various solutions for the two-dimensional self-consistent model of superconductors with dx2-y2 symmetry of the order parameter, taking into account spin and charge distributions. Analytical solutions for spin-charge density wave phases in the absence of the superconductivity ("stripe" and "checkerboard" structures) are presented. Analytical solutions for coexisting superconductivity and stripe-phase modulations in the cores of the Abrikosov's vortices are also found.

Abstract:
This essay examines the development and demise of one of the least studied elements of U.S. homeland defense efforts in the 1950s: the Ground Observer Corps (GOC). The article recounts the history of the GOC from its founding in the mid-1950s until its deactivation in 1959 and concludes that it never came close to achieving its goals for recruitment and effectiveness. Yet, despite the major shortcomings of the GOC, the U.S. Air Force continued to support it, primarily because it was seen as helpful for the public relations interests of the Air Force, continental air defense, and, more generally, U.S. Cold War policies. The lack of widespread public support for the GOC raises questions about the view that Americans were deeply fearful of an imminent Soviet nuclear strike in the 1950s.

Abstract:
Professional discussions of tactics tend to revolve around debates over “strategies” of maneuver versus attrition, ongoing discussions of revolutions in military affairs, and proposals for new concepts of operation. What these discussions are really about though is tactics, specifically what kind of tactics are appropriate for the modern operating environment. Active-duty practitioners have little time to think deeply about tactics due to the intense demands of training to execute doctrine, which are codified tactics that have worked in the past but may not be sufficient to adapt to changing and uncertain situations in combat. Fortunately, with a little focus on tactics we can cut through the hype as all of these ideas have been circling around the identification of the modern tactical regime: reconnaissance-strike tactics. This article first reviews the current debate about maneuver versus attrition tactics and propose that, instead, the advent the reconnaissance-strike regime demands a more sophisticated examination of tactical principles applied against defeat mechanisms. Lastly, it examines implications for amphibious warfare and the Marine Corps generally.

Abstract:
Abstract Superdeep fault-karst carbonate reservoirs discovered over 7 km deep are controlled by strike-slip fault zones and karst collapses in Tarim Basin, Northwest China. The resulting fracture-cave system provides favorable migration channels and reservoir spaces for hydrocarbon, while the characterization of the internal fault structures remains enigmatic. Based on seismic imaging data, we conducted an integrated study on fault damage zones by seismic curvature attributes, velocity anisotropies, and seismic attenuations. The results show that three typical fault-zone patterns can be identified in the study area, including paratactic multiple fault cores, interactive fault cores and one primary-several subsidiary fault cores. These typical patterns can be clearly characterized via curvature attributes. The elastic characteristics of fault damage zones are significantly affected by seismic frequencies, which are manifested from velocity anisotropies and seismic attenuations. The maximum seismic attenuation occurs along with the orientation of fault cores. There is a strong anisotropic characteristic of P-wave phase velocity with incident angle of three fault-zone models. It appears that seismic attributes associated with geological steering are an effective tool for the subsurface characterization of fault damage zones.

Abstract:
This research paper investigated the impact of normal annealing (NA) and magnetic field annealing (FA) on the soft magnetic properties and microstructure of Fe82Si2B13P1C3 amorphous alloy iron cores. The annealing process involved various methods of magnetic field application: transverse magnetic field annealing (TFA), longitudinal magnetic field annealing (LFA), transverse magnetic field annealing followed by longitudinal magnetic field annealing (TLFA) and longitudinal magnetic field annealing followed by transverse magnetic field annealing (LTFA). The annealed samples were subjected to testing and analysis using techniques such as differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), magnetic performance testing equipment and magneto-optical Kerr microscopy. The obtained results were then compared with those of commercially produced Fe80Si9B11. Fe82Si2B13P1C3 demonstrated the lowest loss of P1.4T,2kHz = 8.1 W/kg when annealed in a transverse magnetic field at 370 °C, which was 17% lower than that of Fe80Si9B11. When influenced by the longitudinal magnetic field, the magnetization curve tended to become more rectangular, and the coercivity (B3500A/m) of Fe82Si2B13P1C3 reached 1.6 T, which was 0.05 T higher than that of Fe80Si9B11. During the 370 °C annealing process of the Fe82Si2B13P1C3 amorphous iron core, the internal stress in the strip gradually dissipated, and impurity domains such as fingerprint domains disappeared and aligned with the length direction of the strip. Consequently, wide strip domains with low resistance and easy magnetization were formed, thereby reducing the overall loss of the amorphous iron core.

Abstract:
The effect of nano grain surface layer generated by ultrasonic impact on the fatigue behaviors of a titanium alloy Ti3Zr2Sn3Mo25Nb (TLM) was investigated. Three vibration strike-numbers of 24,000 times, 36,000 times and 48,000 times per unit are chosen to treat the surface of TLM specimens. Nanocrystals with an average size of 30 nm are generated. The dislocation motion plays an important role in the transformation of nanograins. Ultrasonic surface impact improves the mechanical properties of TLM, such as hardness, surface residual stress, tensile strength and fatigue strength. More vibration strike numbers will cause a higher enhancement. With a vibration strike number of 48,000 times per square millimeter the rotating-bending fatigue strength of TLM at 107 cycles is improved by 23.7%. All the fatigue cracks initiate from the surface of untreated specimens, while inner cracks appear after the fatigue life of 106 cycles with the ultrasonic surface impact. The crystal slip in the crack initiation zone is the main way of growth for microcracks. Crack cores are usually formed at the junction of crystals. The stress intensity factor of TLM titanium alloy is approximately 7.0 MPa·m1/2.

Abstract:
The transformations that occurred in the Ottoman Empire in the eighteenth century, summarized by one author as more army, more taxes, more bureaucracy, and more state intrusion in the Ottoman provinces, radically changed provincial life in the Ottoman domains. Growing tax and manpower demands not only increased socio-economic pressure on the provinces but also redefined the sultan’s relationship with local authorities. Accompanied by the increasingly frequent stationing of the Janissary corps in the Ottoman provinces, especially in the seventeenth century, the Ottoman cities and towns saw new elite configurations and new types of power struggles and came under greater economic pressure. The rising number of registered Janissaries changed the internal dynamics of the towns, shaped local politics, and created new struggles for power in the cities where corps regiments were stationed, pushing the Janissaries into local politics, whether as rivals or allies of the local elite. As elsewhere, the southern Anatolian town of Adana witnessed such changes in its social structure, local politics, and relations with the imperial authority. Although similarities are to be seen with the eighteenth century provincial power struggles in the Anatolian and Arabian cities of Gaziantep and Aleppo in terms of intense factional strife and the active involvement of the Janissaries and their pretenders in local politics, the power struggle in Adana was between several Janissary officers, one of whom subsequently managed to become the urban notable (ayan) of the town.

Abstract:
The North Korean armed forces are one of the main threats in the Asian geographic region and consistently have been a thorn in the side of Western allied Asian nations and the United States. In such a conflict with the North Koreans, the United States would, alongside others, take a lead role in countering North Korean naval forces. Taking into account the Force Design 2030 and 2045 battleplans devised by the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps, it is imperative to explore how the United States could work to combat North Korean forces in the near future. With the Force Designs and stated modernizations and improvements being performed in sea-based warfare, there is much more to do to make a strong military force that can strike against the North Koreans.

Abstract:
In this paper, the performance of orthogonal fluxgate sensors with meander-shaped cores is studied in fundamental mode. The meander-shaped cores are made by micro-patterning technology based on a Co-based amorphous ribbon. The main advantage of this structure is that the linear operating range of the sensor can be adjusted simply by changing the number of strips, without affecting the excitation mechanism. Experiments show that a linear range of 560 μT is obtained by a meander-shaped core sensor with 12 strips. The changes in the number of strips can also increase sensitivity and reduce noise of the sensor. We can achieve a sensitivity of 600 V/T and a noise level of 0.64 nT/√Hz at 1 Hz for a meander-shaped core sensor with eight strips. Compared with the performance of the sensors built using a single strip core having the same equivalent cross-sectional area, the use of meander-shaped core can provide a higher sensitivity and linearity, and a lower noise level. We also compare the performance of an eight-strip meander-shaped core orthogonal fluxgate operated in the fundamental and second-harmonic modes. Similar sensitivity for the two modes can be obtained by adjusting the excitation current. In this case, we find that the noise of sensor operating in fundamental mode is about five times lower than that of the sensor operating in second-harmonic mode. This can be interpreted as the suppression of Barkhausen noise by unipolar bias in the fundamental mode.

Abstract Pine growth was monitored for 10 yr after mechanically strip-thinning a dense, naturally regenerated, even-aged stand of 6-yr-old loblolly and shortleaf pines (Pinus taeda L. and P. echinata Mill.) in southern Arkansas. From age 12 to 16 yr, annual growth in height and dbh for 200 croptrees/ac was significantly better on precommercially thinned plots compared to unthinned plots. Commercial thinning was done during the 17th growing season, with volumes removed from unthinned plots averaging 8 cords/ac more than volumes removed from precommercially thinned plots. Pine volumeproduction on precommercially thinned plots may have been reduced by crown scorch from two of three prescribed winter burns and by the disproportionate number of shortleaf pines on those plots as compared to unthinned plots. Abstract:
The necessity of further study of the people’s leaders during the Civil War is argued and the main tasks and directions of research work are proposed. The need to study the family circle of partisan and rebel leaders in the context of the demographic situation in Russia is assessed. Considerations are given on the importance of a comprehensive study of their biographies in order to understand the motives and possibilities of participation in the Civil War. Attention is drawn to the frequent situation of the leadership of brothers in the rebel movement. Estimates of the military abilities of the people’s leaders and their orientation are proposed. Perspective archives for the development of the topic are indicated. The importance of the rebel ego-documents is noted, of which there are relatively few, but research work with them is promising. The importance of ethnic and gender aspects of popular leadership is emphasized. The phenomenon of psychological kinship of people of the same environment, separated by military-political confrontation, is emphasized. Attention is paid to the party and political affiliation of the military leaders of the Civil War and their perception by their subordinates, population, descendants. The question is raised about how politically sophisticated were the military leaders of the civil strife. Thus, a scheme for studying the phenomenon of popular military and political leadership in the Civil War is proposed, based on available sources and a wide range of biographical data.

Abstract:
Aim of study: This paper provides an analysis of growth and survival of twenty–year–old Scots pine saplings in relation to canopy cover density (CCD) gradients, from dense (D–CCD), sparse (S–CCD), and gap (G–CCD) situations.Area of study: Aladag (Bolu) in northern Turkey.Material and methods: Sparse canopy cover density (S–CCD), dense canopy cover density (D–CCD) and gap canopy (G–CCD) were chosen within ten different strip sample plots (10 × 50 m) with sapling regeneration cores. Those regeneration cores were divided into two portions (individuals at the edge and middle of the regeneration cores) and from each portion three individuals was were obtained from a sample. The growth relationships of individual saplings were calculated with stem analyses. Honowski Light Factor (HLF) (ratio of Terminal sprout length (T) to Lateral sprout length (L)) was used to present growth potential measure of seedlings.Main results: The largest sapling regeneration cores were found in the G–CCD followed by S–CCD, and finally D–CCD, all tested for significance with Kruskal–Wallis Test. Compared with saplings in the middle of regeneration cores (crop saplings), those at the edge were always reduced in terms of mean height. Significant difference was only found between the ‘Main Crop’ and the ‘Edge 1’ of the regeneration cores for G–CCD suggesting that sapling regeneration cores are more typical under G–CCD conditions. HLF ratios were greater than 1 with high growth potentials for both CCD gradients (G–CCD and S–CCD) and there were no significant variations between G–CCD and S–CCD for main crop and edges. The thinning after 12–14 years increased sapling growth. However, under D–CCD, growth had virtually ceased.Research highlights: Naturally occurring Scots pine saplings are suppressed by a dense canopy. However, they are tolerant of shade to the extent that they can survive over relatively long time–periods (10–12 years) and can exploit subsequent opportunities should a canopy gap occur. Keywords: Gap regeneration; sapling growth; light regime; canopy cover density; irregular silviculture.

Abstract:
The crop lien was more than a strange fruit of emancipation, a hard-fought compromise, or a pragmatic choice. Its legal logic rested on several generations’ experience with capitalist social relations in the antebellum North, where intense pressures on land use in urban cores and their agricultural hinterlands promoted contestation and experimentation in the ancient body of landlord–tenant law. Northerners designed the crop lien as a way to disentangle contract from property: to strip the lease of its common law guarantee of exclusive possession and shift the burden onto tenants to bargain for it.1

Abstract:
Abstract The article introduces the results of studying the magnetic field distribution in the alternator inductor with an axial arrangement of open magnetic cores (OMC) and external closure of magnetic fluxes. The study compares the efficiency of using magnetic fluxes from permanent magnets (PM) on the example of two model variants of inductors with OMC developed by the authors. The analysis of the density distribution of magnetic fluxes in OMC was carried out by 3D modelling of the magnetic field using EMWorks software. It has been shown that such generators can be manufactured using a waste-free technology for strip of OMC. This technology significantly reduces the production costs of OMC. By modelling the distribution of magnetic fluxes in the OMC of the inductor, the results of experimental studies and analysis of the created device show that the capacity of generator can be varied by changing its dimensions and the number of the toggle switches on the rotor. This allows the alternator to be adapted to the load requirements – power banks and bicycle electronics.

Abstract:
Pilots and air traffic controllers need to undergo a specific English test in order to be granted a license for international operations. A language proficiency scale was developed to serve as a parameter to all aviation regulatory agencies throughout the world by targeting the language produced specifically by air traffic controllers and pilots in radio communications when non-routine situations (such as technical problems, bird strike, changes in weather, health problems on board, etc.) occur (ICAO 2010). However, there is a lack of empirical investigation which could shed light upon this particular register helping the users of the scale with its understanding. In an attempt to fill this gap, this paper outlines a compilation of the Radiotelephony Plain English Corpus (RPTEC), a spoken corpus of aeronautical communication consisting of transcriptions of exchanges between pilots and air traffic controllers in non-routine situations for research and pedagogical purposes. By presenting steps taken during the process, we intend to provide fellow researchers with data which may suit other purposes and yield further analyses, as well as enlighten similar investigations in the field of English for Specific Purposes.

Abstract:
AbstractPlans for a Polish “border strip” are frequently cited to argue that the German army entered the First World War committed to pacifying conquered space through Germanization. This article contends that, in 1914, the German officer corps did not understand national homogeneity as essential for imperial security. Many influential officers insisted that Polish identity was compatible with German imperial loyalty. They supported a multinational imperial model, proposing to trade Poland its cultural and political autonomy for the acceptance of German suzerainty in foreign policy and military command. The army's preference for Germanizing space developed during the occupation of Russian Poland, as officers learned to conflate diversity with imperial fragility. Only a series of political crises after 1916 shifted military opinion against multinational imperialism. Increasingly convinced that Poland would betray the German Empire, some officers abandoned multinationalism. Others revised their plans to contain Poland and fortify Germany by annexing and Germanizing Polish space.

Abstract:
The research is devoted to the contrastive corpus analysis of the semantic prosody of collocations with PANDEMIC in the broadsheet ‘The Guardian’ and the tabloid ‘The Mirror’. The corpora have been processed with the help of Sketch Engine and the collocations with PANDEMIC have been analysed. The study mostly concentrates on the verbs with PANDEMIC as subject and object as most representative in media texts. The dictionary definition of PANDEMIC interprets it as a word with negative semantic prosody. The discourse analysis of the data obtained proves that collocations containing this collocate have negative semantic colouring as well. The following verbs start, hit, lead, cause, force, mean, devastate, which are common for both newspapers, represent PANDEMIC as a metaphorical image of a disaster, and the verbs specific for ‘The Mirror’ – bring, abate, inflict, scupper, kill, give, show, go on – support the given picture. However, the verbs unique for ‘The Guardian’ – strike, affect, shine, reveal, create, take, turn, remain – mostly outline the starting point or describe problems people have to face during pandemic times. Still some verbs in ‘The Guardian’, for example exacerbate and stop, also contribute to the frightening portrayal of a supernatural power terrorising humans. Both newspapers sketch personal stories, describe problems in business, trading, travelling, but ‘The Guardian’ puts more emphasis on international affairs and governments’ decisions and responsibility.

Late in March 1604, as his biographer John Strype records, Archbishop John Whitgift's “Corps was carried to Croydon … and there honourably interred in the Parish-Church … with a decent Solemnity.” Sir George Paule concurred, noting that the “Funerall was very honourably (as befitted his place) solemnized.” The funeral's honor, decency, and solemnity were somewhat marred, however, for among those laudatory elegies and epitaphs traditionally placed upon hearses, some audacious soul had contrived to pin a far from complimentary piece of doggerel. Entitled “The Lamentation of Dickie for the Death of his Brother Jockie”—Jockie being Whitgift and Dickie his successor as archbishop, Richard Bancroft—the poem was a vicious tirade against the late archbishop and his policies. Abstract:
The production of wire cores by notch rolling and cyclic bending promises an ecologically and economically efficient manufacturing option for steel fibers. The paper at hand evaluates the influence of wire strips on cyclic bending by applying rolled wire strips of DP600 sheet metal (t0 = 0.8 mm) and a new cyclic bending testing tool. Analysis of material separation with varying parameters, rolling gap d and bending angle β, proves the interdependency of both process step, but indicates reduced adjustability of the notch rolling process. To enable better adjustability of the wire strip’s characteristics and analysis of their effects, wire strip production in the laboratory by notch stamping instead of rolling is aspired. The prior interaction analysis states the web height b, the notch angle α, and the hardening distribution as relevant wire strip’s characteristics to be replicated. Based on experimental analysis, an equivalent of notch rolling by notch stamping is deduced by considering the web height b identical for stamping and rolling, by adjusting the tool’s notch angle αt based on an equation considering geometric evaluations of α, and by taking advantage of the asymmetric hardening distribution of the outer notch which is comparable to rolled wire strip.
