So far, caring for corpses is still considered the duty of a village priest or kiyai, even though in Islam caring for corpses is fardlu kifayah, which means that if in one village there is already one person who cares for the corpse, then the other obligations fall, but if there is none who cares for the corpse, all people in one village are sinful. Caring for the corpse is the main obligation for Muslims, namely washing, shrouding, praying, and burying according to Islamic law. Sociality increases exposure to pathogens. Therefore, social insects have developed a wide range of behavioural defences, known as ‘social immunity’. Over 50 days, we compared the survival of ants in colonies that were free to remove corpses with those that were restricted in their corpse removal. For degradation to occur, engulfing cells must recognize, phagocytose and digest the corpses of dying cells. We have identified five new genes that play a role in this process: ced-5, ced-6, ced-7, ced-8 and ced-10. Apoptosis of cells and their subsequent removal through efferocytosis occurs in nearly all tissues during development, homeostasis, and disease. However, it has been difficult to track cell death and subsequent corpse removal in vivo. We developed a genetically encoded fluorescent reporter, CharON (Caspase and pH Activated Reporter, Fluorescence ON), that could track emerging apoptotic cells and their efferocytic clearance by phagocytes. Using Drosophila expressing CharON, we uncovered multiple qualitative and quantitative features of coordinated clearance of apoptotic corpses during embryonic

A study of entomological specimens recovered from 117 human corpses in 114 forensic cases was conducted in Taiwan between 2011 and 2018. The comparisons and discussions of the entomological data were based on the locations (indoor vs. outdoor), environments (urban vs. suburban), season and decomposition stages of corpses. In the study, both morphology and DNA-based comparison methods were used to facilitate species identification. In total, nine families and twenty-two species were thus identified. The two most abundant fly species recovered from human corpses were Chrysomya megacephala (35.1%
