The technological progress of the Internet enabled a historical research about the French court dance of Francis I to Louis XIV’s reign, whose sources of interest are not available in Brazil. Accessing to the website of the National Library of France (Gallica), were found manuscripts, memoirs, books, dance treatises and images produced in the period that served as the primary sources for the study. We organize this work in three chapters, the first focused on the study of France in general aspects during the period of Francis I to Louis XIV approaching the Protestant threat, the Italian influence at the French court, as well as their development and the importance of clothing and adornments to the courtier of the new court. In the second chapter, we analyze the Italian influence and his maîtres de danse at the French court, approaching, in sequence, dances, ballets and maîtres danse in the French court beyond the Académie Royale de Danse. Our last chapter is dedicated to the important discovery of perspective, the power represented through dance images and dance representation of court balls and maîtres de danse treatises.

Full textScenic spectacle, divertissement and courtly ritual at the same time, the court ballet was composed, as spectacle genre, in the late sixteenth century, proving to be extremely popular and recurrent to the dynamics of French court until seventeenth century\'s last decades. According to the humanistic aspirations in reconstitution of the ancient Greek total drama, court ballet proposes a fusion of the arts, uniting harmoniously poetry, music, singing, dancing, painting, scenery, machinery, heraldry, finally, various arts and devices in a great spectacle, erudite and pleasant at once. In this complex composition of so many interlaced arts, dance occupied a prominent position, as well as dance was a very important activity in the sociability of the court. Court ballet was essentially performed in a courtly ambience and in reverence to the king, with the effective participation of the courtiers, ladys, princes, queen and also the French king in the stage, dancing and performing various roles. Based on the study of the libretti and descriptions of court ballets produced between 1610 and 1661 at the French court, this study proposes to understand how this court spectacle is constructed as a prescriptive representation of power in the context of the Ancien Régime, based on the allegorical notion of \"harmony\". Thus, we investigate how court ballet create an allegorical image of cosmic harmony and how it contributes to strengthen ways of thinking, being and acting of the courtiers, as well as moral values and political pacts that keep (artificially) the social body in order.

Français 2695) written around 1460 by the Duke René d\'Anjou (1409-1480) is noteworthy for synthesizing in a single work practices from princely court culture of the Late Middle Ages and the originality of combining textual and iconographic material in order to convey a message intended by the author. We opted for working with the codex in question due to the dissemination of documents by electronic means, by the uniqueness of the work and lack of modern editions. Medieval manuscripts are objects focus of different research fields, which leads us to narrow the scope of our work to textual analysis from our paleographic transcription. The aim of this study is to examine the dual functionality of the ms. Fr. 2695 through discourse analysis. Through qualitative and quantitative examination of the lexical corpus, and the comparison with external sources, first we will investigate the function of the codex to record the practice of the tournament, and then establish how the fight would be devised by the Duke and how far was from current practice. Second, we will try to decipher the influence of courtly, knightly and princely literature within the treatise in order to determine the ideological construction to persuade the reader to adopt a certain behavior in society.

Full textFrancesco Bordoni was a Florentine sculptor, a specialist in bronze and one Pierre de Fracheville’s disciples. He grew up in Florence in the “bottega” of Giambologna during the period of Ferdinando de’ Medici. He attended the yards of the Grad-Duke such as the ones for Ferdinando’s weddings. Later he followed Francheville to Pisa where he worked at Fedrinando’s monuments. Before 1601 he moved to France with his master. Therefore Francheville soon returned to Florence whereas Bordoni remained in Saint-Germain-en-Laye. In Saint-Germain-en-Laye as well as in Fontainebleau, he collaborated with Tommaso Francini for the sculptures of grottoes and fountains of the gardens following the model of the villa of Pratolino. Later he went back to Paris where he worked again for the king and for the Concinis. He concluded the basement of the equestrian statue of Henri IV (Pont Neuf, Paris) which had been commenced in Florence by Giambologna and Pietro Tacca. The four slaves which adorned the basement, signed by Bordoni, are at Louvre Museum. His career went on during the period of Louis XIII. In the 30’s he imported some marbles from Italy, he became the first sculptor of the King, he created the floor in marble and the altar of the Chappelle of Fontainebleau. He was an artist deeply bound to the Médicis and to the French monarchy. Tanks to his works he shared in the strategies of the images wanted by his great Patrons. The aim of my study is the relation with the Italian and French sculpture and his role in the reorganization of the Kingdom of Henry IV and of his successors

Full textThe thesis analyzes the diplomatic-political activity carried out by the nuncio Francesco Buonvisi at the court of Leopold I of Habsburg. The main political events of the European scenario in the years 1672-1678 were studied through the study of the correspondence exchanged between the nuncio and Rome. In particular, the work done by Buonvisi in the realization of the pontifical projects was highlighted: stipulation of peace between the European powers and creation of an alliance against the Turks. For this reason, the path taken by the pontifical diplomacy for the preparation of the congress of Nijmegen was considered and much attention was paid to the election of Innocent XI. The pope, in fact, brought about a change of course in pontifical politics at a time when Rome did not have the ability to really influence other European courts. This inability emerged from the study of the vain efforts made by the nuncio Buonvisi. Despite the limited success achieved by Francesco Buonvisi, his contribution has proved to be fundamental for the papal court and for the few but significant results obtained in favor of the Holy See

Full textThe notion of territory lies within an environmental and anthropic context that evolves both in time and space. In that case, it constitutes a tool to apprehend the evolutions and continuations of socio-environmental interactions. The nature and establishment of the activities practised by men are conditioned by different factors (natural setting, cultural aspect, economy, technical ability, demography). However, their study amid an insular space with pronounced particularities facilitate the understanding of these dynamics from a long-lasting chronological scale and a multiscalar spatial study. An inventory of the paleoenvironmental data, stemming from archaeological, paleontological or environmental works has been made. The interpretation of the results leads to propose some restitutions of territories from settlements that provided information concerning the fauna and/or flora. The field works carried out have also brought new data to this research. The synthesis of this study presents the state of our knowledge about the ecological insular evolution and endeavours to define the part of the anthropic impact and to assess the influence of the environmental constraints on the development of our societies. Eventually, we also try to determine to which extent the forms of the landscape, the composition of the vegetation and of the present fauna reveal traces of ancient anthropisation
