Mechanical integration of the cardiac, muscular and ventilatory pumps enables mammals to vary cardiac output over a wide range to match metabolic demands. We have found this integration lacking in a lizard (Iguana iguana) that differs from mammals because blood flow from the caudal body and ventilation are maximal after, rather than during, exercise. Because Iguana iguana are constrained from ventilation during intense locomotion, they appear to be unable to recruit the abdomen and thorax as a pump for venous return. This constraint on simultaneous running and costal breathing arises from thei

Two levels of fatigue were studied (i.e., force reductions of 40 and 65% at optimal length). Results indicate that fatigue, when evaluated with high-f

Low back pain (LBP) is defined as pain that appears between the costal margin and inferior gluteal folds for more than one day, which can be accompanied by leg pain or numbness. Often, this pain is acute and radiates to the buttocks or thighs. LBP is caused by a farmer's poor body position when working, so it can affect performance and results. A working duration that is too long and exceeds the body's capacity can also increase the risk of LBP in farmers.
