Abstract:

Abstract:
Research work in the field of heterotrophic denitrification was done in Dresden between 1976 and 1980; in 1985 it was resumed with new objectives. A fluidized-bed reactor with a floatable granular carrier material was developed and represents a novel solution. The process could be essentially improved by making use of the NEBIO tube reactor, where the fluidized bed is produced by downward flow of the water to be treated. The circulation of a partial stream is not required. In February 1989 a pilot plant with a capacity of 650 m3/d was taken into operation. Due to the good results, further work has been sponsored by the Bundesministerium für Forschung und Technologie from the middle of 1990. Planning work for a demonstration plant was carried out in 1991. In August 1992 two reactors with a water throughput of 6,100 m3/d were already started, and the aftertreatment unit with aeration, multi-layer and activated-carbon filter, pH adaptation by gas exchange and a two-stage disinfection with chlorine was taken into operation. In November 1992 for the first time water was fed into the supply system. The NEBIO tube reactor process proved to be a reliable and safe process for the biological elimination of nitrate. Continued research work will focus on the development of models for the degradation processes in the tube reactor and the optimisation of the overall technology.

Abstract:
Hermann Cohen on the Way to „Religion of Reason: Out of the Sources of Judaism” Breslau Stop On the way leading Hermann Cohen from his family Coswig to Marburg and — later — to Berlin, from a Jewish province to a multicultural metropolis, Breslau is a special point. The future philosopher came here in 1857, hoping for the future of fice of the rabbi, to begin studies at the newly established Jewish Theological Seminary. Here too, four years later, he enrolled at the university, opening up the prospect of an academic career. A special point, which allowed him to create in the next years an “impressive system” which is a bold attempt to present German and Judaism as identical or connected. Jewish and religious content was a permanent and constant component of Cohen’s works, and Religion of Reason and System of Philosophy form a whole. Already before the creation of works devoted to Kant, some features of Cohen’s philosophy of religion are revealed, which originated in his studies at Breslau, one of the most important Haskalah centers in the middle of the 19th century. Cohen found there an atmosphere conduciveto the later shaping of the science of the universal religion of reason. After many years, Cohen assessed the Jewish Theological Seminary as “the most important educational institution [of his] youth.”

The current acceleration of the universe can be modeled in terms of a cosmological constant Λ. We show that the extremely small value of [Formula: see text], the holy grail of theoretical physics, can be understood in terms of a new, dimensionless, conserved number Cosmic Mode Index (CosMIn), which counts the number of modes crossing the Hubble radius during the three phases of evolution of the universe. Theoretical considerations suggest that N ≈ 4π. This single postulate leads us to the correct, observed numerical value of the cosmological constant! This approach also provides a unified picture of cosmic evolution relating the early inflationary phase to the late accelerating phase.

Abstract:
ABSTRACTThis study aims to determine how to apply the calculation of activity based costing in determining the cost of goods manufactured and how to compare the cost of goods manufactured using traditional methods and activity based costing methods. This study used descriptive qualitative method. The data used are qualitative data in the form of company identity and quantitative data related to the company's production costs. Data collection was carried out by observation and interviews. The results showed the calculation of the cost of goods manufactured at UD. Karimunjawa Perkasa with the traditional method compared to the activity based costng method gives lower results for the mountain slop sandals and mountain slop sandals, while for the flat sandals gives a greater result. This is due to the calculation of the cost of goods manufactured by the traditional method using one cost driver while the activity based costing method uses more than one cost driver. Charging using activity based costing makes the calculation of the cost of goods manufactured more accurate, thus helping management in making decisions and determining the selling price

Abstract:
Gravity controls the amount of information that is accessible to any specific observer. We quantify the notion of cosmic information (‘CosmIn’) for the case of an eternal observer in the universe. Demanding the finiteness of CosmIn requires the universe to have a late-time accelerated expansion phase. Combined with some generic features of the quantum structure of spacetime, this leads to the determination of (i) the numerical value of the cosmological constant, as well as (ii) the amplitude of the primordial, scale invariant perturbation spectrum in terms of a single free parameter, which specifies the energy scale at which the universe makes a transition from a pre-geometric phase to the classical phase. This formalism also shows that the quantum gravitational information content of spacetime can be tested by using precision cosmology.

Abstract:
We present computations of the statistics of the polarization field around high peaks of the cosmis microwave background anisotropy. We studied the correlated and uncorrelated with the anisotropy parts of polarization in the vicinity of isolated peaks of anisotropy in order to demonstrate how these peaks determine the structure of the polarization fields. We have shown that the level of cross-correlation between anisotropy and polarization increases in ν times around ν-heigh isolated peaks of anisotropy. Such a peak forms the specific shape of polarization around itself. The polarization of the cosmic microwave background correlated with 3σ-peaks of anisotropy is formed mainly between the cross-levels 1.5σ and 2.5σ. This polarization has a local maximum ~30÷45% around 3σ-peaks and looks like "rings" around the peaks. This specific structure of the polarization field would be effective for further investigation of the primordial signal and noise in the maps of anisotropy and polarization of the cosmic microwave background.

Lieu, Maggie. "Cosmic giants on cosmic scales." Thesis, University of Birmingham, 2016. http://etheses.bham.ac.uk//id/eprint/6767/.

Abstract:
Galaxy groups and clusters are cosmic giants. They are the largest observable virialised objects that have materialised from the initial perturbations in the early Universe. These systems comprise of not only galaxies, but also hot gas and dark matter. They are ideal astrophysical laboratories to study the matter distribution of the Universe and cluster physics whilst their distribution and evolution can be used constrain cosmological parameters. Clusters are the ultimate test for the structure formation paradigm. However, for this to be achieved requires knowledge of their mass which is a particularly challenging task since there are no ‘cosmic scales’ to directly measure the masses of these objects. Groups and clusters are massive enough to gravitationally influence light emitted from background galaxies, an effect known as gravitational lensing. Its mass can be inferred from the strength of the weak lensing signal and is only dependent on the gravitational potential well depth. However, its limitations arise from systematic uncertainties of shape measurement, photometric redshift and shallow survey depth. This thesis concerns constraining accurate and precise cluster mass estimates of low mass groups and poor clusters, and testing the limits that can be achieved with current noisy, ground-based data.

Abstract:
This novel is about Jess, a left wing trade unionist and student lawyer who, caught up in a fast-paced Sydney inner city life, goes to a hypnotist in an effort to drink less and instead has an experience of God. Her conscious self cannot cope with this and she represses it, but it still exists in a deeper part of her and the novel tracks the path by which she finally hauls and hacks her way back to it. The novel is divided into four parts, David, Jane, Padma and Jess. The first three parts tell of her emotionally dependencies on other people, and in the last section she finally finds a kind of hard-won peace and self-acceptance, and a love of God that is rooted in the small joys of her daily life.

Abstract:
The manufacturing companies must keep attention over challenges and for the moment of adopting technology and practices instead of observation of competition amongst competitor companies. To create automobile business successful in India, companies are essential to adopting better cost accounting techniques to minimize costs. Target Costing has been identified as a popular technique to accomplish company’s goals. Target costing consist exclusive approach to decide target price for the product and services. Target Costing ensure that new product price would be competitive in the market with substantial quality of products. This research investigates the application procedure of Target Costing (TC) in Automobile companies in India. This study employed Target Costing as a dependent variable and Profitability; Growth; Net Tangibility Assets (NTA); EPS and Firm Size as independent variables. The study adopted convenience sample of top ten automobile companies listed on BSE of India and panel data has covered from 2014-15 to 2018-19 financial years. The results determine the target costing impact on profitability had reported by Pearson’s correlation result shown a negative relationship. Target costing impact on Return on sales examined by simple regression analysis and revealed that there is positive correlation. Finally, Target costing impact on financial performance examined by multiple regression results revealed that there is positive correlation with Revenue from Operation; Profitability; Return on Sales (ROS) and Growth, while negative correlation revealed by Margin from Operation; ROA; Net Tangibility Assets(NTA); EPS and Firm Size.

Abstract:
In 1999, IAEA, the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency and the European Commission jointly proposed the standardised listing of decommissioning activities [1] to serve as a general basis for presentation of decommissioning costs and for promoting the harmonisation in decommissioning costing. The standardised listing of activities [1] was developed in three hierarchical levels based on analysis of typical decommissioning activities identified in various decommissioning projects. The structure [1] has been currently updated by the same organisations as the International Structure for Decommissioning Costing (ISDC) based on the experience gained over ten years of use of the original standardised listing [2]. First part of the paper presents the revised ISDC. The principle of the three-level original hierarchical structure has been preserved. Re-definition of the content and re-structuring was done to avoid ambiguity and to ensure comprehensiveness. Paper presents two basic approaches for implementation of the ISDC structure in costing — converting the cost data available in specific cost structures, mostly according the work breakdown structures of decommissioning projects into ISDC and implementation of the ISDC as the cost calculation structure. Examples of the second approach are given to show that this approach is feasible and may have several advantages. An ORACLE based costing model with implemented of the extended ISDC for detailed costing and an Excel based costing model for preliminary costing at IAEA for research reactors are given.

Abstract:
In order to survive in today’s competitive global business environment, implementation of life cycle costing methodology with a greater emphasis on cost control could be one of the convincing approaches for the manufacturing firms. The product life cycle costing approach can help track and analyse the cost implications associated with each phase of product life cycle. Life cycle costing (LCC) practices with traditional costing methods may provide results that have a severe deviation from the real product LCC as it focuses on the cost of materials, labor and a low portion of overheads apportioned by the absorption rate to the product. Activity based costing (ABC) has emerged as one of the several innovative and more accurate costing methods in recent years. It is based on the principle that products or services consume activities and activities consume resources that generate costs. Thus, the ABC system focuses on calculating the costs incurred on performing the activities to manufacture a product. This paper presents a LCC modeling approach for estimating life cycle cost of pumps using activity based costing method. The study was conducted in a large pump manufacturing company from India that has significant global standing within its industry. Firstly, all the activities and cost drivers associated with the life cycle of a pump have been identified. A methodology for LCC analysis using ABC is then developed and it is applied to two different pumps manufactured by the same industry and the results obtained are presented.

Abstract:
The relationship of Earth's seismicity with solar activity is investigated using the results of continuous long–term observations of cosmic ray intensity, solar activity and the number of strong earthquakes. Modulation of the flux of cosmic rays is used as information on the level of solar activity, processes on the Sun and interplanetary medium. The distribution of the number of sunspots, the intensity of cosmic rays and the number of strong earthquakes in the solar cycle is presented.

Abstract:
As more and more companies offer product families rather than individual products, the competitive advantage of product platforming is shrinking. In order to compete companies need to link marketing and engineering so that designers are able to make decisions about critical trade-offs between cost and performance. The current methods for market-driven platform designs use traditional product costing where indirect costs are assigned to individual products based on relative production quantities. Because of increasing product diversity and decreasing direct labor costs, the ratio of indirect costs to total cost of products is increasing. A method for use during the design stage of top-down product family design is needed to assign indirect costs to individual products based on the product’s consumption of indirect resources. An activity-based costing method for top-down product family design is presented here. This method allows the designer to model indirect costs as a function of engineering attributes, creating a framework for top-down product platform optimization that provides a more accurate estimation of cost than traditional product costing methods. An illustrative example shows that an activity-based costing model predicts different profitability from a traditional costing system for a number of different motor designs.
