Full textIn the 19th century the refusal of the great French ports to decline, and mainly the expulsion of Girondist merchants on the Mediterranean Sea by their competitors from Le Havre and Marseille have made France to set up new trading post in the Guinea Gulf. The territories of Gold Coast became officially a French colony of Cote d’Ivoire on March 10th 1893 thank to the actions of pioneers from La Rochelle. From that date on the colony was opened to exploitation under the system of concession that mobilized several activity branches, capitals, and know-how in order to collect rapidly uncounted wealth. This kind of exploitation encountered a failure at the end of the World War I because it created interest conflicts and resistances of the native populations. From 1918 on Metropolis intensified the exploitation of the colonies in order to pay their debt and reduce the cost of life and face the rapid increase of raw material needs. So some great new trading companies timber and agricultural industries were created. And that transformed the economy of the territorial colony.Nevertheless, the rush that slowed down in 1929 resumed immediately thank to Maginot became plan that leaded to great works as the building of the port of Abidjan which became the centerpiece from 1951 on. The second port of San Pedro will favor the equipments and the rapid development of economic, urban and social infrastructures that prepared the country to the « miracle ivoirien » But that remains the result of a deep mutation of the colonial work through France and Cote d’Ivoire cooperation. That cooperation reinforces the economic and political influence of France after the independence of their former colony
Laffite, Christiane. "La côte colombienne des Caraïbes : 1810-1830." Paris 10, 1992. http://www.theses.fr/1992PA100073.
Full textWe wanted to have an overall view of this colombian coast during twenty years (1810-1830), without restricting ourself to a specific area. In a first part presenting the coast, we have done a survey on the mainland and its main ports, with a navigation history, a geografic study of the ports and their comercial activities before independance. In a second part, we studied the comercial activity of the coast after independance, and the issue of transportation of goods along with the means of transportation. The study of society we have done, shows the misdeed of wars. This period of the colombian coast history is socially confused. The third part deals with the independance of the coast including an history of thoughts, a battle resonstitution, and a general aspect of international relations. Military consideration and maritime relations show the importance of colombian coast and the decisive part it played in favour of independance during all these long years of struggle and civil wars

Full textToday, the majority of the French coast seems like a territory for holidays. In the summer, tourists' visits bring intense activity and appreciable profits. However, the conversion - which is very various in the facts - of the littoral populations to the tourism is progressive. At the beginning, tourists have mixed with populations who leave the coast, they used local facilities (roads, wells. . . ). But in the middle of the 19th century, local resources are not enough to satisfy the tourists. Tourists begin to dream of ideals cities, when natives see stranger merchants coming. Littoral societies can take advantage (socially and economically) of the tourism, but they can also lose a new future. If seaside resort can be the first activity of the town, coastal populations can prefer to help traditional activities in difficulty from the end of the 19th century. Conflicts between coastal activities and seaside activity must not evade collaboration often necessary (animation with the boat, sewer, electricity. . . ). However, municipal struggles reveal confrontation of ideas (struggle against marine erosion, comfort. . . ), which can cost a lot, in particular in the 20th century. At this time, high and off seasons are integrated in the life of a majority of coastal cities of Brittany and Vendée, a seasonal nature we still know today
