Abstract:
Food security is a major development issue in Côte d’Ivoire that is experiencing population growth over 3% per year. Food crop production, however, is experiencing weak growth, most often linked to increase in area. In addition, low yields could be explained by the scarcity of rainfall in a context where farmers hardly use agronomic-based fertilizers without soil analysis although Cote d’Ivoire is agricultural based developing country. To be part of integrated production logic in rice production, a study is initiated in 2016 in Daloa in order to improve the yield of paddy rice by using a local amendment produced by termites kept in captivity on agricultural residues. Four (4) doses of this amendment made of termites’ waste products (TWP): 1.8%; 3.6% and 7.2% and 14.4% of one hectare soil weight were tested versus an unfertilized (control) and a NPK fertilized (100kg.ha)-. The experimental design consists of randomized complete blocks with three replicates. Plant growth parameters such as plant height at maturity, total number of tillers, number of leaves at the beginning of tillering, biomass at maturity and yield data were collected. The results showed that all agronomic parameters were improved with increasing dose up to an optimum dose that can be found between 7.2 % and 14.4 % of termites’ waste products. The highest yield (2484.3 kg.ha-1) was obtained with the 7.2 % dose. The results of the application of the TWP on rice showed important yield increases with efficacy varying from 30 to 72 % compared to common fertilizer application and 27.1 to 221.9 % if compared to non-fertilized plot.

Abstract:
It was reported that the fuel core was heated up to ∼0.8 keV in the fast ignition experiments with cone-guided targets, but they could not theoretically explain heating mechanisms and achievement of such high temperature. Thus simulations should play an important role in estimating the scheme performance, and we must simulate each phenomenon with individual codes and integrate them under the fast ignition integrated interconnecting code project. In the previous integrated simulations, fast electrons generated by the laser-plasma interaction were too hot to efficiently heat the core and we got only 0.096 keV rise of temperature. Including the density gap at the contact surface between the cone tip and the imploded plasma, the period of core heating became longer and the core was heated by 0.162 keV, ∼ 69% higher increment compared with ignoring the density gap effect.

Abstract:
AbstractIn fast ignition research, the clarification of core heating mechanism is one of the most critical issues. To understand and identify the crucial physics in fast heating, we developed the fast ignition integrated interconnecting code FI3 and carried out the core heating simulations for fast heating experiments with cone-guided targets. It was found that the scale length of the pre-plasma at the inner-surface of the cone and the density gap at the contact surface between the cone tip and the imploded core plasma strongly affect the efficiency of core heating. In the case of heating laser with intensity of 1020 W/cm2 and duration of 1 ps, the pre-plasma scale length of 1.5 µm is optimum for the core heating; the dense core is heated up to 0.86 keV. In the double scale length case (long scale of ~5 µm in underdense region and short scale of ~ 1 µm in overdense region), of which generation due to the pre-pulse irradiation of heating pulse is observed at the radiation–hydro simulations, the dense core is heated more efficiently than single short scale length cases. The contribution of fast ions to the core heating is also discussed.

Abstract:
7563 Background: There are multiple treatment regimens approved for the management of follicular lymphoma (FL). However, there is limited information available to describe the course of therapy (COT) that patients receive following FL diagnosis. Methods: Using the linked Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) registry & Medicare claims dataset, we analyzed patients 66 years and older diagnosed with FL from 2000 to 2011. In order to characterize FL treatments, we identified first, second and subsequent-lines of therapy listed in the National Comprehensive Cancer Network guidelines 2.2016. We identified the first COT (COT1) as the first regimen that a patient receives after diagnosis. We identified the second and third COT (COT2 and COT3) as new treatment received following/interrupting COT1 or COT2, respectively. Using visual analytics software, we investigated and reported the proportion of patients receiving each COT, the top three regimens within each COT, and the median time to starting a COT from diagnosis or end of a previous COT. Results: 10,836 FL patients were identified after applying the inclusion/exclusion criteria. Sixty-two percent (N=6,756) of the patients received FL-directed treatment. Among patients receiving COT1, 65% received COT2. Among patients receiving COT2, 79% received COT3. The table below provides additional information on the COT received. Conclusions: Analysis of real-world data indicates that almost 4 out of 10 elderly FL patients do not receive the listed FL-directed treatments. In contrast to rituximab, there was limited use of RCHOP and RCVP after COT1 during the study period. Additional research is needed to understand the differences across demographic groups and associated health outcomes. [Table: see text]

Abstract:
Fast electrons are effectively generated from solid targets of cone-geometry by irradiating intense laser pulses, which is applied to fast ignition scheme. For realizing optimal core heating by those electrons, understanding the characteristics of electrons emitted from cone targets is crucial. In this paper, in order to understand the generation and transport processes of hot electrons inside the cone target, two-dimensional (2D) particle-in-cell (PIC) simulations were carried out. It is shown that hot electrons form current layers which are guided by self-generated surface magnetic field, which results in effective energy transfer from laser pulse to hot electrons. When the hot electrons propagate through the steep density gradient at the cone tip, electrostatic field is induced via Weibel instability. As a result, hot electrons are confined inside and emitted gradually from the target, as an electron beam of long duration. Energy spectrum and temporal profile of hot electrons are also evaluated at the rear side of the target, where the profile of rear side plasma is taken from the fluid code and the result is sent to Fokker-Planck code.

Breed-and-burn Molten Salt Reactors are an interesting option of reactor design that allow high fuel utilization while operating on an open fuel cycle. Such reactors usually require specialized codes in order to model its fuel cycle and the flowing fuel in an unmoderated core. In this work, we propose a design and perform a preliminary analysis of a homogeneous chloride salt single-fluid design. The fuel cycle is analyzed using the EQL0D tool in order to model reactor start-up and transition into an equilibrium state. Core simulation is performed using ATARI, an OpenFOAM-based multiphysics code developed at PSI. Results show that the core size for such a reactor is quite big and that it can be easily started with high-assay LEU. In addition, the core has been designed to promote a quasi-1D flow, opening the possibility of modeling the core with legacy codes in the future.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT We previously showed that reduced intracellular levels of the TATA binding protein (TBP), brought about by tbp heterozygosity in DT40 cells, resulted in a mitotic delay reflecting reduced expression of the mitotic regulator cdc25B but did not significantly affect overall transcription. Here we extend these findings in several ways. We first provide evidence that the decrease in cdc25B expression reflects reduced activity of the cdc25B core promoter in the heterozygous (TBP-het) cells. Strikingly, mutations in a previously described repressor element that overlaps the TATA box restored promoter activity in TBP-het cells, supporting the idea that the sensitivity of this promoter to TBP levels reflects a competition between TBP and the repressor for DNA binding. To determine whether cells might have mechanisms to compensate for fluctuations in TBP levels, we next examined expression of the two known vertebrate TBP homologues, TLP and TBP2. Significantly, mRNAs encoding both were significantly overexpressed relative to levels observed in wild-type cells. In the case of TLP, this was shown to reflect regulation of the core promoter by both TBP and TLP. Together, our results indicate that variations in TBP levels can affect the transcription of specific promoters in distinct ways, but overall transcription may be buffered by corresponding alterations in the expression of TBP homologues.

Abstract:
InGaN light-emitting diodes (LEDs) were fabricated on cone-shaped patterned sapphire substrates (PSSs) by using low-pressure metalorganic chemical vapor deposition. To enhance the crystal quality of the GaN epilayer and the optoelectronic performance of the LED device, the top-tip cone shapes of the PSSs were further modified using wet etching. Through the wet etching treatment, some dry-etched induced damage on the substrate surface formed in the PSS fabrication process can be removed to achieve a high epilayer quality. In comparison to the LEDs prepared on the conventional sapphire substrate (CSS) and cone-shaped PSS without wet etching, the LED grown on the cone-shaped PSS by performing wet etching for 3 min exhibited 55% and 10% improvements in the light output power (at 350 mA), respectively. This implies that the modification of cone-shaped PSSs possesses high potential for LED applications.

Abstract:
AbstractA new scheme for cone-hollow-assisted fast ignition in inertial fusion is investigated. A hollow is attached to the tip of a conventional gold cone. The transport and heating of the high-current electrons propagating from the cone tip to the compressed fuel core along the hollow is investigated by two-dimensional hybrid simulation. Different hollow geometry sizes are examinized. It is shown that with proper hollow guiding, hot electrons can be collimated between the inner-walls of the hollow by the large interface magnetic fields appearing on the inner surface. When the beam electrons further propagate into the dense region, they are scattered into the gold hollow through collisions with the fuel electrons and ions. The resulting magnetic potential around the hollow then bends beam electrons along the gold hollow to reach the dense core.

Abstract:
Local linear stability analysis is applied to the flow inside a cyclone separator to investigate the unsteady precession of the vortex core. The results of the stability analysis are compared with experimental measurements of the vortex oscillations using high-speed photography with particle seeding and hot-wire anemometry. The experiments reveal distinct spatial variation in the oscillation behaviour within the cyclone. The unsteady motion is focused at each end of the device, at both the narrow cone tip and just below the exhaust duct at the top of the cone, which is known as a vortex finder. The local stability analysis shows that an absolute instability is present throughout the flow for some non-zero azimuthal wavenumbers. The unsteady flow is observed to be driven by coupling between the shear layer and inertial waves confined within the vortex core. Comparison of the stability analysis with experiments shows the same frequency and mode shape behaviour and suggests that the local analysis accurately predicts the unstable modes of the system. The precessing vortex core is responsible for a narrow-band acoustic noise. Comparisons are also drawn with acoustic measurements made on cyclones in which the system is defined by key non-dimensional parameters, such as the swirl number and outlet diameter ratio. The results in this study demonstrate the applicability of local stability analysis to a complex swirling system and yield credible details about the underlying mechanisms of the unstable flow inside the cyclone.

Abstract:
I, II, III. capitoli).

Abstract:
In this paper, we studied the spark corona discharge in tap and distillited waters. The results show the shape of cone that generated on the tip of capillary tube is different with conductivity of liquids. The blue glow appears at the end of capillary tube and the drop extends into a cone. In addition, the conducitivity is affected on the relationship between the appearance of the blue glow discharge with the applied voltage. The size of the cone decreases with an increase in applied voltage. The cone diameter at the base of capillary tube oscillates with period approximately 1 Sec. this oscillates in the cone diameters is due to the change distance between the liquid electrode and the surface of liquid. The intensity of spark corona discharge that formed in tap water higher than that formed in distillited water. In addiation, when the applied voltage is 5 KV on distillted water, the drope extends into two cones while in tap water the drop extends into one cone. These contrast between two water types which under test (i.e. tap and distillited waters) is due to the differance in condictivity of water.

Abstract:
CotE is a coat protein that is present in the spores of Clostridium difficile, an obligate anaerobic bacterium and a pathogen that is a leading cause of antibiotic-associated diarrhoea in hospital patients. Spores serve as the agents of disease transmission, and CotE has been implicated in their attachment to the gut epithelium and subsequent colonization of the host. CotE consists of an N-terminal peroxiredoxin domain and a C-terminal chitinase domain. Here, a C-terminal fragment of CotE comprising residues 349–712 has been crystallized and its structure has been determined to reveal a core eight-stranded β-barrel fold with a neighbouring subdomain containing a five-stranded β-sheet. A prominent groove running across the top of the barrel is lined by residues that are conserved in family 18 glycosyl hydrolases and which participate in catalysis. Electron density identified in the groove defines the pentapeptide Gly-Pro-Ala-Met-Lys derived from the N-terminus of the protein following proteolytic cleavage to remove an affinity-purification tag. These observations suggest the possibility of designing peptidomimetics to block C. difficile transmission.

It is established that at the moment of the onset of the boundary equilibrium of the base under a central loaded plate, an elastic core is formed in the form of a cone, all particles move along with the plate progressively down. In this case, within the limits of the “area of influence” the boundary condition of the base is violated by protrusion or consolidation of soils. The volume of the “area of influence” is determined by the height of the elastic core, from which its diameter is calculated. Experiments using conical tips were made and the height of the elastic core was determined and the diameter of the “area of influence” was determined. For creation at penetration and probing friction of soil on a ground the conic tip is executed rough with cylindrical stages. Under the steps of the tip, formed areas of compacted soil, moving along with it, creating a so-called “ground shirt” in the form of a cone with a creature at an angle α to the vertical. The obtained data allowed specifying coefficients of bearing capacity of soils, which are used in construction norms.

Abstract:
Spin rates of minor planets or asteroids are known to have been affected by several agents including but not limited to tidal fly-bys, impacts and solar radiation. Surface processes like landslides occur as a result of such rotational changes. We study the evolution of landslides on top-shaped rubble pile asteroids like 101955 Bennu and 162173 Ryugu, with the underlying core modeled as two solid cones fused back to back. Using a depth averaged avalanche theory applicable to granular flows we solve for axisymmetric landslides occurring at various spin rates and regolith friction. Static regions on the surface corresponding to different spin rates are identified from an equilibrium analysis. We then solve for landslides initiated at different latitudes. It is found that landslides equilibrate at lower latitudes as the spin rate is increased. Beyond a critical spin rate regolith is shed from the equator. This critical spin is higher for a lower value of the semi-apex angle of the cone.

Abstract:
The presence of analytical dependencies describing the process of static soil puncture by a working body with a conical asymmetric tip is necessary to create installations with the ability to control the trajectory of the soil puncture. The paper considers the features of the process of interaction of an asymmetric conical tip with the ground. Analytical relationships were obtained to determine its reactions during a static puncture, the deviation of the head trajectory from a straight line, to determine the size of the soil compaction zone and the magnitude of the destructive force that acts on adjacent communications and other underground objects. It was found that with an increase in the value of the displacement of the top of the cone, for example, from its axis from 0.02 m to 0.08 m with a borehole diameter of 0.2 m, the value of soil resistance increases almost four times. The greatest resistance is achieved when piercing a hard sandy sand. It was found that with an increase in the displacement of the tip of the tip cone, the deviation of the trajectory increases. The piercing head achieves the greatest deviation from the straight trajectory of movement with a sharper cone and a greater asymmetric deviation of its top, and, for example, in hard sandy loam can be up to 0.17 m with a span of 10 m. It was found that the size of the soil destruction zone will be almost 1.8 times larger than the tip in the form of a symmetrical cone and reaches from 8 to 12 borehole diameters, depending on the type of soil. The maximum pressure on adjacent objects can reach from 0.06 MPa in hard-plastic clay to 0.09 MPa in hard sandy loam. The calculated dependences obtained for determining the power and technological parameters depending on the geometric dimensions of the asymmetric tip of the working body can be used to create installations with a controlled static puncture for use in the most common soil conditions.

Abstract:
Multi-physics coupled simulations have become increasingly important during the last two decades being one of the major field of application in the nuclear technology. The nuclear reactors themselves are complex systems whose responses are driven by interactions between neutron kinetics, thermal-hydraulics, heat transfer, mechanics and chemistry. Probably, in a nuclear system, the most complex and important feedback effect takes place between the core neutron kinetics and thermal-hydraulics. The development of coupled thermal-hydraulic -neutron kinetics codes is a recurrent field of research for the nuclear industry. This contribution, developed in the Consortium for Nuclear Power (CNP) framework, has the objective of develop a dynamic coupling, using TCP/IP based socket communication, between the thermal-hydraulic system code T-TRACE, Tractebel-ENGIE version of the latest US NRC TRACE release, and the multi-group 3-D nodal diffusion and core physics code PANTHER, developed and maintained by EDF Energy (UK). As a first step of the development, a fully temporally explicit coupling scheme has been developed between TRACE and PANTHER based on a boundary conditions exchange at the core level at each temporal iteration. The OECD TMI MSLB benchmark has been selected as verification scenario for testing the ongoing developing T-TRACE/PANTHER coupled code. The developed coupled code is benchmarked code-to-code against TRACE/PARCS and T-RELAP5/PANTHER.

Abstract:
Typical coped stringers of streel bridges are prone to fatigue cracking as a result of the high concentration of tensile stress in the cope zone. This stress concentration is caused by a combination of geometric discontinuity at the cope radius and end-connection rigidity. Few retrofit methods are available for mitigating this cracking; they include hole drilling at a crack tip, and top-rivet removal from a stringer-floorbeam connection. Three-dimensional finite element models of a typical stringer with coped web were developed and analyzed to evaluate (i) cope geometry and load configuration parameters and (ii) the effectiveness of these two retrofit methods. The studied geometry parameters were cope radius and cope length. Variations in the cope-zone stress distribution for each parameter and between an original and a retrofitted condition are presented in this paper. Tensile stress reduction was associated with increased cope radius. Although hole drilling resulted in significant stress reduction along the cope edge, this method was associated with increased tensile stress at the bottom of the drilled hole, which could result in further crack propagation. This finding is consistent with existing studies. Removal of a top rivet resulted in significant reduction of tensile stress.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Deep neural networks (DNNs) have demonstrated effectiveness in many domains including object recognition, speech recognition, natural language processing, and health care. Typically, the computations involved in DNN training and inferencing are time consuming and require efficient implementations. Existing frameworks such as TensorFlow, Theano, Torch, Cognitive Tool Kit (CNTK), and Caffe enable Graphics Processing Unit (GPUs) as the status quo devices for DNN execution, leaving Central Processing Unit (CPUs) behind. Moreover, existing frameworks forgo or limit cross layer optimization opportunities that have the potential to improve performance by significantly reducing data movement through the memory hierarchy. In this article, we describe an alternative approach called SWIRL, a compiler that provides high-performance CPU implementations for DNNs. SWIRL is built on top of the existing domain-specific language (DSL) for DNNs called LATTE. SWIRL separates DNN specification and its schedule using predefined transformation recipes for tensors and layers commonly found in DNN layers. These recipes synergize with DSL constructs to generate high-quality fused, vectorized, and parallelized code for CPUs. On an Intel Xeon Platinum 8180M CPU, SWIRL achieves performance comparable with Tensorflow integrated with MKL-DNN; on average 1.00× of Tensorflow inference and 0.99× of Tensorflow training. It also outperforms the original LATTE compiler on average by 1.22× and 1.30× on inference and training, respectively.

Abstract:
Cooling tower is an indispensable part, used as a direct contact type heat exchanger mainly for evaporative cooling. Cooling tower generally dissipates, remove heat from thermal power plants. In an induced draft cooling tower of counter flow, used for a mini-steam power plant, hot water enters at the top, while the air is introduced at the bottom and exits at the top, air is allowed to come in contact with falling water droplets, causing evaporative cooling. A possibility of desired change with different spray angle, patterns, is tried and analysed. On findings, best suited spray nozzle angle resulted is 90°, and amongst three spray patterns, full cone, hollow cone and spiral type nozzle; full cone nozzle of 90° spray angle helps achieving efficiency up to 82%. The range increases successively from 9.8°C to 15.5°C for FC nozzle, in approach to WBT; the desirable fall of 3.56°C is attained with effectiveness of 81.63%.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Most of the data obtained in studying mental toughness has come from athletes, coaches, and sometimes parents. The purpose of the present investigation was to explore sport psychologists’ experiences of building mental toughness and their perceptions of how coaches can build mental toughness in their athletes. A phenomenological approach to qualitative research guided the study. Semistructured qualitative interviews with 15 sport psychologists were conducted. A concept map was developed that illustrates the theme and subthemes that emerged from analysis of the interviews. As indicated, sport psychologists felt that coaches could build mental toughness in their athletes by behaving mindfully, which included putting athletes under adverse situations and providing (teaching) them with the mental skills to effectively cope with these adversities. These results both confirm and extend existing research on how to build mental toughness.
