Abstract:
Abstract Although the presence of mosasaurids in the Late Cretaceous (Maastrichtian) Baculites limestone of the Cotentin peninsula, in the western part of Normandy (France), was reported as early as 1873 by Henri-Emile Sauvage, this occurrence has largely been overlooked by subsequent authors. In this paper we review Sauvage’s original material (an isolated tooth – the type of Mosasaurus platyodon) and describe an additional, hitherto unpublished, tooth crown also from the Baculites Limestone of the Cotentin and refer both to the globidensine mosasaur Prognathodon. Abstract:
COGEMA-La Hague nuclear reprocessing plant in the Cotentin Peninsula (northwest France) releases in the atmosphere about 19 TBq.yr-1 of radiocarbon. Three experiments in a terrestrial environment with sampling of a bio-indicator like furze were performed in 1997, 1998, and 1999, and additional air samples in the chimney plume were measured. Results presented here establish the 14C distribution in the La Hague environment and suggest that a part of the 14C content in the vegetation near the coast results from a 14CO2 degassing of seawater supplied with the liquid waste from the nuclear plant.

Abstract Recreational and professional clam fishing was an important activity on the extensive intertidal zone of the western Cotentin coast (western English Channel). A variety of fishing gear was used to harvest the target species: the European clam Ruditapes decussatus (Linnaeus, 1758) and the introduced Manila clam R. philippinarum (Adams and Reeve, 1850). In this study, we studied the effect of rake harvesting during the spring tides of February–March 2014, following an experimental design with a control station and three stations impacted by rake harvesting in three sediment types: sandy
