Abstract:
This article examines literature in Russia, as opposed to Russian literature, through the window of Tat'iana's reading, especially two novels by Sophie Cottin, in Aleksandr Pushkin'sEugene Onegin. A quantitative, sociological approach to European markets for novels shows that Russians and Europeans were reading the same popular French, German, and English sentimental novels by August von Kotzebue; Stéphanie-Félicité, comtesse de Genlis; August Lafontaine; and Cottin. Pushkin, however, positioned himself in the Russian literary field with the canonical novels of Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Samuel Richardson, and Madame de Stael, against the "mediocre" novels of Cottin. Nevertheless, in his ongoing efforts to write Russian novels, Pushkin covertly engaged with popular sentimental novels to integrate their conservative emphasis on duty, virtue, and love with Russian noble life. I argue that a likely intertext for the eponymous heroine ofThe Captain's Daughterwas Cottin's European bestsellerÉlisabeth, ou Les exilés de Sibérie(1806).

Abstract:
Based on clinical and radiological findings, Cottin defined combined pulmonary fibrosis and emphysema (CPFE) as pulmonary emphysema in the upper lungs and interstitial pneumonia in the lower lungs with various radiological patterns. Pathologic findings of CPFE probably corresponded with diffuse interstitial pneumonia with pulmonary emphysema, emphysema with fibrosis, and the combination of both. We described reported radiological findings of CPFE.

Abstract:
Sophie Cottin was a French novelist who set above her female writer peers in the late 18th century. Literary criticism has named her, along with Mme de Genlis, as the engenderer of the historical novel in France. Cottin’s body of literary works can be regarded as a visage amid the literary desert that ranges from the very beginning of the French Revolution to the fall of the First Empire. Claire d’Albe is a novel imbibed with a melancholy and sentimental touch that foreshadows Romanticism. In like fashion, its female characters are tinged with myriad moral virtues the reader can easily acknowledge in Rousseau’s Nouvelle Héloise. In particular, Cottin’s novel tells the story of a young lady caught in a love triangle. She is constantly at war with herself when it comes down to virtue or to surrendering to unbridled passions, an inner conflict which in essence reflects the didactic tone breathed throughout the novel. The primary objective of this study is to carry out an overall analysis of Claire d’Albe and to study in depth the novel’s translated version into Spanish, entitled Clara de Alba. Novelita en cartas and published anonymously in 1822.

Abstract:
Combined pulmonary fibrosis and emphysema syndrome (CPFE syndrome) is the co-existence of emphysema and pulmonary fibrosis in individuals. The syndrome was first described by Cottin et al., in 2005 and is characterised by upper lobe emphysema and lower lobe interstitial fibrosis. Patients with CPFE show severe dyspnoea and hypoxemia with exercise. Lung function tests (LFT) reveal a mixed pattern with relatively preserved lung volumes and severely low diffusing capacity for carbon monoxide (DLCO). CPFE is prevalent in heavy male smokers and have a high probability of developing pulmonary hypertension, acute lung injury and lung cancer

Abstract:

Personal digital assistants (PDA) and handheld global positioning systems (GPS) have become increasingly important in cotton production but little is known about their use. This research analyzed the adoption of PDA/handheld GPS devices in cotton production. A younger farmer who used a computer in farm management and had a positive perception of Extension had a greater likelihood of adopting the devices. In addition, farmers who used complementary remote sensing, plant mapping, and grid soil sampling information were more likely to use PDA/handheld GPS devices. Finally, the COTMAN in-field decision support program from Extension also positively impacted adoption.

Abstract:
Resistance to Cotton leaf curl virus (CLCuV) in three cultivars of cotton was investigated in crosses with a susceptible cultivar using generation mean analysis. No single gene of major effect controlled resistance to Cotton leaf curl virus in the three crosses. The mean number of effective factors controlling resistance in cross LRA-5166 × S-12 was estimated to be at least five. Estimates of broad and narrow sense heritability indicate that effects by the environment were larger than those of genetic components. Epistasis was significant in two crosses. Additive gene effects contributed more to resistance than to susceptibility in contrast with dominance gene effect. Reciprocal differences were detected in the cross with LRA-5166. Estimates of genetic gain ranged form low to moderate. Thus, a breeding method that makes use of additive variance should be used because much of the variances for resistance are additive, whereas dominance effects, at least in these crosses, tended to contribute to susceptibility.

Abstract:
The following article deals with the data obtained as a result of the effect of soil salinity on the physiological properties and tolerance levels of medium-fibre cotton varieties. Also, changes in physiological processes under the influence of different levels of salinity and differences in the adaptive properties of varieties have been noted. Salinity had a negative impact on all studied cotton varieties, while the radical decline in yield and its quality was observed in varieties with high levels of adaptability and hardiness.

Abstract:
Background:Eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA), previously known as Churg-Strauss syndrome, is a systemic disease characterized by late onset asthma associated with small- and/or medium-size vessel vasculitis, besides eosinophil-mediated cytotoxic organ damage. About 20-30% of patients with EGPA displays allergic manifestations related with inhalant sensitization, while prevalence of food and drug allergy is unknown in this context. Moreover, some authors in the past hypothesized in favor of a possible role of allergen-specific immunotherapy (ASIT) as a trigger of disease. Objectives:Aim of the present study is to establish the prevalence of each category allergen sensitization and to determine whether atopy or specific immunotherapy could influence clinical expression of the disease. Methods:Our study consisted in a retrospective demographic and clinical data collection regarding EGPA history (including age at diagnosis, organ and tissue involvement, autoantibody profile) and the presence of allergic comorbidities or previous drug hypersensitivity reactions. Patients without either proven allergic reactions or positive tests have been excluded.Results:Fifty-three (53) patients with definitive diagnosis of EGPA have been included in the analysis among which 25 (47.2%) with chronic respiratory allergy or previous acute allergic reaction. Among allergic patients 15 (60%) resulted sensitized towards inhalants and among them 13 (86.7%) displayed multiple sensitization. Drug allergy affected 13 patients (52%), food 4 (16%). Among 15 patients with respiratory allergy, 13 were eligible to allergen-specific immunotherapy (ASIT). Seven (7) subjects underwent ASIT prior EGPA diagnosis with an average time-to-EGPA of 16.2 years. No statistically significant difference was found in terms of sex, age at diagnosis, positivity for or specificity of anti-neutrophil cytoplasm antibodies (ANCA), eosinophil count at onset, pattern of clinical manifestations comparing allergic vs. non-allergic, ASIT vs. non-ASIT, ASIT vs. allergic, ASIT vs. eligible. Conclusion:Among patients with EGPA allergies are highly prevalent, particularly towards inhalants and drugs. In the great majority of patients multiple sensitization profile is found. Atopy doesn’t seem to be associated with specific patterns of disease presentation. The absence of correlation between inhalant ASIT exposure and variation in mode and time of EGPA onset doesn’t support the hypothesis of a its potential role in triggering the disease.References:[1]Berti A et al. Abstract:
Cotton fibers were synthesized from tossa jute and characteristics were compared with original cotton by using FTIR and TGA. The FTIR results indicated that the peak intensity of OH group from jute cotton fibers occurred at 3336 cm−1whereas the peak intensity of original cotton fibers occurred at 3338 cm−1. This indicated that the synthesized cotton fiber properties were very similar to the original cotton fibers. The TGA result showed that maximum rate of mass loss, the onset of decomposition, end of decomposition, and activation energy of synthesized cotton were higher than original cotton. The activation energy of jute cotton fibers was higher than the original cotton fibers.
