Abstract:
This study investigated the principals’ strategies for the improvement of staff personnel administration of secondary schools in Enugu North Education Zone, Enugu state. The study has two purposes, and was guided by 2 research questions and two hypothesis. It adopted a descriptive research design. The population of the study consist 108 secondary school principals and 1,423 secondary school teachers in Enugu North Education Zone, Enugu state. Through multistage and simple random sampling, the sample size of 16 secondary school principals and 170 secondary school teachers were drawn. The instrument for data collection was a 20-item structured questionnaire. The questionnaire has two sections: section A for secondary school principals while section B is for secondary school teachers. The instrument were validated by three experts: two from Educational Management and Policy while the other one from Department of Measurement and Evaluation, all from faculty of education, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, after which they were subjected to test-retest on 15 secondary school principal and 15 secondary school teachers in Enugu West Education zone. Their scores were computed with Cronbach Alpha technique which yielded a reliability value of 0.75 which indicates that the instruments were valid. Data collected in this study were analyzed using arithmetic mean and standard deviation while the hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. Findings reveal that strategies adopted by secondary school principals in for the improvement of staff personnel administration include: involving teachers in decision making, teacher motivation, good leadership, assigning teachers with official responsibilities among others. It was also revealed that teachers were enhanced with s good leadership strategies from principals, motivation and engaging staff in re-training exercise.

Abstract:
This study is an appraisal of counselors’ effectiveness in post primary institutions in Enugu State. This study adopted descriptive survey research deign. It was carried out in the six educational zones of Enugu state with a total of two hundred and seventy-five (275) government-owned secondary schools. The population for the study comprises a key officer each from all the two hundred and seventy-five (275) government owned secondary schools in Enugu State. Two hundred and seventy-five (275) is small and manageable as a sample for study. Hence, the researcher used all of them for the study. Therefore, no sampling was done. The researcher explored eight research questions and formulated two hypotheses on the comparison of the performance of counselors by gender and locations using t-test statistics at 0.05 level of significance. The research questions were answered using means and standard deviations. It was found that the respondents generally had high perceptions of the counselors’ performance in each of their professional roles except with respect to the referral function. It was also found that there is no significant difference in the performance of male and female counselors in both urban and rural areas. Recommendations were made that counselors should be adequately motivated and that counselors should specialize on guidance and counseling services to improve their effectiveness in post primary schools in Enugu State, Nigeria.

Abstract:
This paper is a case study on the Therapeutic Inclusive Secondary School (TISS) in Enugu State, Nigeria-West Africa. The aim of the study is to investigate all issues affecting the learning conditions in the TISS. This study is guided by nine research questions that are to be answered with descriptive statistics; simple percentages as well as mean and standard deviation. The study employed the case study research design with a study population comprising 40 respondents. A purposive sampling technique was used to collect data with the Therapeutic Inclusive Education Questionnaire (TIEQ), which is a structured questionnaire, interviews, and observations to elicit information from the respondents. A test of internal consistency, using Cronbach’s Alpha method, yielded a reliability index of 0.88. The results of the findings, among others, reveal that the respondents had a positive attitude to a greater extent towards inclusive education. It was also found that the friendly nature of the learning environment towards students with special needs enhances student learning. The researcher recommends, along with other related suggestions that parents and the community should be encouraged to be involved by the promotion of more awareness programs.

Abstract:
OBJECTIVE: The study investigated the secondary school adolescents’ perception of risk behaviours influencing HIV and AIDS prevention and control in Enugu State, Nigeria.
 
 METHOD: The study was a descriptive survey research. A sample of 825 senior secondary secondary school adolescents was selected. Three research questions and two hypotheses guided the study. Mean and Standard deviation was used to answer the research questions while t-test was used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 levels of significances.
 
 RESULTS: Results showed that there is a moderate level of HIV/AIDS risk perception among secondary school adolescents, a moderate level of HIV/AIDS risk perception among the male and female secondary school adolescents and also a moderate level of HIV/AIDS risk perception among the urban and rural secondary school adolescents. It further revealed that there is no significant difference between the mean rating of male and female secondary school adolescents in respect to their HIV/AIDS risk perception. It was also discovered from the study that there is significant difference between the mean rating of urban and rural secondary school adolescents with regards to their HIV/AIDS risk perception in favour of urban secondary school adolescents.
 
 CONCLUSION: The study concludes that there is a moderate level of HIV/AIDS risk perception among secondary school adolescents in the study area. The level of HIV/AIDS risk perception among the male and female secondary school adolescents is moderate. There is a moderate level of HIV/AIDS risk perception among the urban and rural secondary school adolescents. Further studies could be carried out using a larger population to substantiate the urgency for counseling programme to meet the secondary school adolescents’ needs on HIV/AIDS risk behaviours. Further research could also be focused on factors that affect adolescents’ perception of risks which makes them vulnerable to HIV/AIDS.

Abstract:
Home economics is an essential subject in Nigerias education system with the potential of providing life skills and teaching basic homecare knowledge to the students. However, there is a growing concern about the decreasing enrollment and interest of students in home economics education in Nigeria. Thus, the primary purpose of this study wasto investigate the attitudes of parentsregarding home economics education in comparison to other subjects. Two hundred and thirty-six parents were drawn from different locations in the Enugu State of Nigeria. A simple percentage score indicates that the majority of the parents (74%) indicated a negative attitude towards home economics, while less (26%) showed positive attitudes. The study concludes that there is a prevalence of negative attitudes towards home economics education in secondary schools in Nigeria.

Abstract:
Background: Sub-Saharan Africa has the highest road injury death rate of all regions in the world with Nigeria being one of the four countries accounting for half of all these deaths. Road, traffic signs or codes are salient ways of communication to road users geared towards reducing road traffic accident and studies that traffic violation are considered to be amongst the causes of road traffic accidents. Recognition, interpretation and observance of road signs could be of great importance in reducing the incidence of road accidents. This study was aimed at assessing the knowledge of road signs by commercial drivers in Enugu South-East Nigeria.Methods: This was a cross sectional descriptive study carried out in Enugu metropolis over a period of 3 months using a pre-tested structured questionnaire. Commercial drivers in Enugu participated in the study. Common road signs in their usual colors were showed to the drivers to test their ability to correctly identify the signs.Results: The mean age of the respondents was 42.4±9.6 years. Majority of the respondents, 59.4% are on intra-city transport route. Over 65% of the driver’s attained secondary education and beyond. Nearly a half (49.4%) of the drivers had poor knowledge of road signs. Drivers who have attained primary education and less (AOR=0.2, 95% CI: 0.1-0.3); who are on intra-city transport route (AOR=0.08, 95% CI: 0.05-0.1) or had less than 11 years driving experience (AOR=0.3, 95% CI: 0.1-0.5) were less likely to have good knowledge of road signs.Conclusions: Significant gaps still exist in knowledge of road signs among commercial drivers in Enugu, Nigeria.

Abstract:
INTRODUCTION: Health risk behaviours contribute to the leading causes of deaths and disability among adults and youth. OBJECTIVE: The purpose of the study was to investigate the prevalence of health risk behaviours among secondary school students in Enugu, South-East Nigeria.METHODS: This cross sectional study was conducted between May and July 2015 among 348 school students randomly selected in six secondary schools in rural and urban areas. Data was analysed using SPSS version 21, and statistical significance of association between variables was assessed using Chi-square test at p<0.05.RESULTS: Overall, 348 respondents out of 360 returned the completed questionnaires. 50.6% were females, while their mean age was 15.2 ± 5.1 years. Majority of respondents live with both parents (73.9%).Many respondents 44.5% had taken alcohol, while 13.5%, and 40.8% had smoked cigarette and had sex before respectively. Also, 59.8% had experienced one form of violence, while 37.6% of them preferred fast food junks to food prepared at home.Age, sex and class did not significantly influence participants that had taken alcohol. Also, age, sex and class did not significantly influence those that had sex in the past. However, sex significantly influenced smoking of cigarettes.CONCLUSIONS & RECOMMENDATIONS: Our results showed high percentage of health risky behaviours among secondary school students. Introduction of compulsory health education curriculum activities in schools was recommended.

Abstract:
This study examined Local Government Administration and Rural Development in Enugu State, Nigeria under Sullivan I. Chime’s administration, 2007-2015. The source of information for this study is secondary source. Three research questions and three objectives guided this study. The general objective of the study is the relationship between the local government administration and rural development in Enugu State, Nigeria. The specific objectives were: to assess the role of the local government administration in rural development in Enugu State, to investigate whether job creation and provision of infrastructures by the government led to decline in rural-urban migration and to find out the relationship between governments budgetary allocation and rural development in Enugu State. Giving the descriptive and argumentative nature of the paper, qualitative method of data gathering and analysis were adopted in the conduct of the research. The method of data presentation and analysis adopted for this study is the content analytical method. Some findings of the study include that Enugu State worked aggressively and assiduously to achieve developmental projects in different communities towards improving the standard of living. The state also came up with different initiatives/programmes like Visit Every Community (VEC), Free Maternal Child Healthcare (FMCH), Free Basic Education Policy and Songhai Initiative for the development of the state, and it was discovered that government budgetary allocations actually affected the overall development of the rural communities over limited resources. As a result of the above findings, the study made some recommendations which include among others; the roles played by the local governments can be said to be very successful. Though, there is need for the government to increase their function capacity of these projects and programmes to be able to cover every area of the state. Local government needs to diversify their internal revenue sources by engaging in some business ventures like filling stations, transportation, and so on, to be able to compliment the poor budgetary allocation given to them by the federal and state government.
