Abstract:
Paradoxical counseling (PC) became popular in the second part of last century with the advent of systemic and multi-relational therapies. Since then, it has changed into a variety of behavioral techniques still in use today. How consistent or inconsistent is PC will depend a great deal upon each counselor's beliefs, including those who consider themselves pastoral counselors or Christian counselors. The authors suggest, however, that using workbooks written in both linear-straight-forward or circular-paradoxical ways as homework assignments may enlarge the expertise of a variety of counselors

It is more difficult for clergy to personally cope with confidentiality than any other profession because of the complex relationships found within congregational settings and the blurred boundaries between clergy as counselors and clergy as leaders of congregations. This leads to difficult negotiations regarding confidentiality and openness between clergy and other congregants. It is especially difficult for married clergy who otherwise value candor in their spousal relationship. Guidelines for clergy regarding confidentiality include the presumption of confidentiality, the sharing of informa

Abstract:
In the spring of 1934, May’s father leaves his family and Rollo is recalled to Michigan to take charge. He does so and becomes a counselor at the Michigan State Y and a campus counselor. That experience and his time with Adler in Vienna spur him to write about student counseling in several articles. He begins to craft a future merging religious and psychological themes. These articles and word-of-mouth in the Y network make him known as a future practitioner of pastoral psychology. At the same time, he works hard and successfully puts his family on an even keel.
