Abstract:
The following thesis contains an extensive account of the theory of class groups. First the form class group is introduced through equivalence classes of certain integral binary quadratic forms with a given discriminant. The sets of classes is then turned into a group through an operation referred to as "composition''. Then the ideal class group is introduced through classes of fractional ideals in the ring of integers of quadratic fields with a given discriminant. It is then shown that for negative fundamental discriminants, the ideal class group and form class group are isomorphic. Some conc

The purpose of this paper was to find a general formula to count the number of automorphisms of any finite abelian group. These groups were separated into five different types. For each of the first three types, theorems were proven, and formulas were derived based on the theorems. A formula for the last two types of groups was derived from a theorem based on a conjecture which was proven in only one direction. Then it was shown that a count found from any of the first three formulas could also be found using the last formula. The result of these comparisons gave credence to the conjecture. Th

Abstract:
Little is known about how a morphogenetic rearrangement of a tissue is effected by the individual cells. Starving Dictyostelium discoideum cells aggregate to form dendritic streams which then break up into groups of &sim;2 x 104 cells. Cell number is sensed using counting factor (CF), a secreted complex of polypeptides. A high extracellular concentration of CF causes an aggregation stream to break up. We find that CF slowly down-regulates the cAMP-induced cGMP pulse by inhibiting guanylyl cyclase activity. On the other hand, CF significantly potentiates the cAMP-induced cAMP pulse size through

A sequence (a₁,a2,...,an) of n distinct elements of S is called a system of distinct representatives (SDR) of the family F=(F₁,F₂,...,Fn) if ai is belong to Fi for all i, 1 is equal or smaller than i, and i is equal or smaller than n. P. Hall proved that a family F has an SDR if and only if the union of any k sets of F contains at least k elements. Two SDRs (a₁,a₂,...,an), (a₁’,a₂’,...,an’) of a family F are considered to be distinct if ai≠ai’ for some i, 1 is equal or smaller than i, and i is equal or smaller th

Follow the theories of Tiebout’s "Voting by Feet" and "Tax competition" theories, Firms may relocate or establish new one to lower tax burden counties where the difference comes from different administrative behaviors among different tax authorities. Using data from National Tax Administrations between 1998 and 2007, the empirical evidence demonstrates that the relationship of tax burden of enterprise income tax and the number of enterpris

2. Que dificuldades no âmbito do sentido de número possuem as crianças do Pré-Escolar e do 2.º ano de escolaridade? 3. Que sentido de número possuem a
